Will Sony 6 ohm bookshelf speakers work? null

Yes minimum speaker impedance is 4ohms.

Pioneer book shelf speakers BS22 6 ohms caused receiver to burnout with sparks and smoke. It R-S202 overheats and goes into standby mode after 5 mins of listening at 50 volume. When you try to push it above 60 which is not very loud, it went up in smoke. So only use speakers of 8 or 16 ohms.

6 ohm speakers should work fine with the Yamaha R-S202 receiver providing you don't drive the speakers too hard. I would recommend using a subwoofer to better handle the lower bass tones.
