    Very Decent Performers

These sound very good, more so when taking price into account. I installed them in a plasterboard ceiling, being sure to remove any backing paper from the underside of the fiberglass insulation. Other than that, there was no other special treatment in the ceiling cavity. Nice bass response, mid and hi-end just fine as well, and a smooth and "full" sound. The tweeter can be "aimed", which might be a plus in some installations. Speakers are equipped with the now-standard plastic "clamps" for mounting. Note that the phillips screw heads can be chewed up fairly easily if you're using a screw gun, so set the clutch to "loose" at first. Otherwise no complaints. The speakers even come with a wire "loop" to help you remove the grilles if necessary. This review is purely subjective (I did no direct comparisons), but I have listened to a lot of ceiling speakers and these are just fine for the price. Good for whole-house sound, surround speakers etc. Might even be good for front speakers in a TV room, but I usually go with bookshelf or larger enclosures for these.

while the size of the speaker is 6 1/2 inches, the drywall cutout is closer to 8 inches (a cutting template is provided. the quality and construction of this speaker is quite solid for the price. the sound quality is good (not great). i chose this pair mainly for the low price as i have installed these in my bathroom and i don't need high quality sound mostly moisture proof. the speaker cone is not paper so i think these will work out well over time.

What a difference in the in-wall speakers of yesteryear!

I just installed these speakers. Unfortunately, one of the grills did not fit on the speaker properly and I did not see that until after I had installed. I can't fathom taking them down, but now have one speaker with a good grill and the other looks terrible because it doesn't fit. is there a way to get just the replacement grill? Help....it looks awful after many hours of work.

For a basic sound system these are great speakers, (yeah for Insignia) for a demanding listener these are fair. Bought these, listened to them then got the Yamaha NSIW480- 8" speakers instead.

I was interested by the reviews but...

I took a chance on these and was disappointed. Being on a budget and being picky of what I listen to is apparently a bad combination. The reviews gave me some hope that this "cheap" set would work for my living room. I guess I'll have to pony up some extra bucks or shop elsewhere to find what I want. They sounded like they wanted to be a great set of speakers (even when paired with a sub-woofer) but were flat and tinny sounding. I took them out and returned them as soon as I could. I think a set of auto speakers installed in my ceiling would sound better.
