This is a very basic Chromebook from Acer, but gets the job done for many tasks. My personal biggest use case and why I was excited to get it was writing reviews when I’m not home. I’m actually writing this review on the Chromebook and it’s been a great experience! I can also see this being a good machine for students and elders.
Let’s get started…
Connectivity: You’re looking at a good amount of ports that are very useful to have -
- 2x USB-C ports (one on each side)
- 2x USB-A ports (one on each side)
- MicroSD card reader
- Headphone jack (nice)
I use one of the ports to connect my mouse and still have many left to use.
Display: An important aspect of any laptop is the display. You’re going to be looking at a rather large 15.6” 720p HD panel. While I appreciate the size which for me is “just right” I would have liked to have seen a better quality panel. I can see pixels if I sit very close and the viewing angles are rather poor which causes colors not to always look accurate. In terms of brightness it’s more than good enough for indoor use.
Keyboard/trackpad: Next important thing especially for me is the keyboard itself - you’re getting a full experience with a number pad. The keys themselves feel very nice and snappy, and I usually use mechanical keyboards whenever I’m on my main computer but had no problem enjoying this keyboard which says a lot. The keys are clearly labeled and have a good basic font. I also like that I’m able to access shortcuts like volume controls and brightness settings right on the board itself. In terms of the trackpad it’s responsive and large, but I actually much prefer using a regular mouse so I recommend hooking one up if you’re like me - 2.4GHz or bluetooth will work just fine.
Speakers: Not great. Ok if you just need to listen to something real quick, but lack clarity and any volume.
Webcam/microphone: It’s more than sufficient for video calls (in decent to good lighting) . I tried moving around really fast and everything still looked very smooth. I’m glad this part wasn’t overlooked. In terms of the mic it’s good enough for your calls as everyone heard me clearly.
Battery life: This Chromebook charges really fast when you need to, and In terms of battery life itself for my use case of (Casual web browsing, reddit, google docs, YouTube, and browsing photos) I had no problem getting a full day of usage.
Performance/storage: The performance is actually surprisingly quite good for all your basic tasks. Inside you will find a Intel Pentium Silver N6000 which is a low power chip with 4 cores and 4 threads paired with 4GB of RAM. I’ve had no issues opening multiple chrome tabs, playing videos, checking mail, and even some very light gaming. Please note that when I mean very light gaming I mean very light - Do not get this if your main use case will be any sort of gaming. The 4GB of RAM is the one aspect that has me worried though… I really wish there was 8 in total. In terms of storage you get 128GB which is a great amount and enough for me personally. With ChromeOS a lot of your files will be in the cloud like Google Photos, and Google Drive so you do not need that much. After installing some of my most used apps I had 95GB left.
Build quality: The whole chromebook as a whole feels sturdy. Hinge is nice and smooth, but if you listen very closely there are some slight cracking noises. Not that big of a deal though.
Overall I’m happy with this Chromebook and what it offers me for my particular use case, and I think the value it provides is totally fair. It just doesn’t stand out for me in any particular way.
Would recommend!

As someone who often travels for work, I was on the hunt for an inexpensive laptop that wouldn't give me nightmares if I had to leave it in a hotel room or check it at a coat check. I settled on the Acer Chromebook 315 and here's how it stacked up from the moment I unboxed it.
First Impressions: The Acer Chromebook 315 isn’t the sleekest ultrabook around, but it's far from bulky, striking a nice balance in size. The trackpad and keys felt solid—reassuring for someone who types a lot. The screen, however, was a bit of a letdown. While it's functional, it suffers from poor viewing angles, low resolution, and overall, it’s just not great for prolonged use unless you're watching videos. For its price, the screen quality is understandable, but for anyone planning to use it heavily, I'd recommend considering a model with a better display.
Performance with Chrome and Web Apps: This is where the Chromebook shines. I spend a good chunk of my day creating storyboard images using AI tools, and accessing my Chat GPT account from this device was impressively smooth. The processing demands are offloaded online, so this Chromebook kept up just as well as my $3,000 primary laptop, which was a pleasant surprise.
Google Ecosystem Integration: Testing out Google's ecosystem was next on my list. Although I usually work with different tools, some of my clients prefer Google Sheets and Slides. Working within these apps was seamless, thanks to the cloud-based processing power. Even with its basic specs, the Chromebook handled everything thrown at it without any hitches.
Entertainment and Media: I ended my day by chilling out with some YouTube videos. Despite the screen's shortcomings, HD streaming looked pretty good. The quality was decent enough that I didn’t mind the less-than-perfect display when watching videos. This was probably the best use of the screen, making it an acceptable option for casual viewing.
Conclusion: The Acer Chromebook 315 is a solid choice for travelers looking for a budget-friendly laptop that handles basic tasks and streaming well, especially within the Google ecosystem. Its performance in web-based applications and AI tools is commendable, considering its price point. However, if you're planning to use it as your main device, it might be worth looking into options with better screens. For occasional travel and light work, though, it fits the bill perfectly.

Great entry level Chromebook

The Acer Chromebook 315 is what I consider an entry level Chromebook. It has the Intel N6000 processor. I opened it up to see if there were any available upgrades. It does not. I believe the CPU, ram, and storage are all soldered. There are no available slots as far as I can see.
The laptop arrived charged at 65%. The power adapter that came with it is USB-C. I love this because it does not use those weird barrel type power adapters. You can use any USB-C cable. Because the processor is lower powered, you should be able to use your mobile device brick charger if it can output at least 29W. I tried it with one of my iPad chargers that outputs 29W and it works fine.
There are 2x USB-C ports, 2x USB3 type A ports, microSD card slot, combo headphone/micrphone jack, and Kensington lock.
Because one of my mobile phones is a Pixel, I used it to login to my account if it is an Android phone. It still wanted me to create a local password to login so that I do not have to keep entering my Google password. It also gives you an option to create a pin. I was able to link it to my Pixel phone as well. This allows it to be used to unlock the laptop – this is optional, but it is convenient. This also allows the phone to be used as a hotspot device when Wi-Fi is not available.
This laptop is responsive for what I use it for. I do many tasks online using Google Workspace and Microsoft Office. Everything works on the Chrome browser. You can even access Google Gemini and do some AI work. Anything I do on the Google Chrome browser on my desktop or regular laptop, I can do it on the Chromebook.
I checked out the Google Play store and there are many apps available for the platform. I have not installed anything since I can do mostly everything on the Chrome browser.
There are a few things I want to share that may be negative so far. Firstly, the track pad is too sensitive for my taste. The cursor jumps around fast. I will have to play with the settings or use a USB mouse or wireless mouse. This has Bluetooth so you can connect Bluetooth device to it. Second, I have already scratched the top cover of the laptop. I had it upside down on the table while removing the screws to check the insides out. Third, this will make a better laptop if it has touch screen capabilities.
Overall, it is a nice entry level laptop. I love being able to use my Android phone to login. You may think that 4GB of ram is not enough, but for web browsing and streaming it is plenty. You may be able to do very light gaming, but you are limited to what you can install from the Play Store. It even comes with a sleeve to store it in while traveling.

The Acer Chromebook is a shining example of how simplicity and performance can seamlessly come together in a modern computing device. This Chromebook is designed for those who value efficiency, reliability, and a sleek user experience, all without breaking the bank.
Right out of the box, the Acer Chromebook impresses with its minimalist yet elegant design. The lightweight construction and slim profile make it an ideal choice for users on the go, whether you’re a student, a professional, or someone who loves to work from a coffee shop. The build quality feels sturdy, with thoughtful attention to detail that enhances its overall aesthetic.
Performance-wise, the Chromebook is powered by a responsive processor that effortlessly handles multitasking, streaming, and productivity tasks. The integration with Chrome OS ensures lightning-fast boot times and a clutter-free interface, while the seamless connection to Google Workspace makes it perfect for those deeply integrated into the Google ecosystem.
The display is another standout feature. Its crisp resolution and vibrant colors bring content to life, whether you’re editing documents, enjoying media, or browsing the web. The anti-glare coating is a thoughtful addition, reducing strain during extended use. The battery life is exceptional, offering hours of uninterrupted productivity and entertainment, making it a true workhorse for long days.
Connectivity options are robust, with multiple USB-C and USB-A ports, an audio jack, and microSD support, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of peripherals. The keyboard and trackpad are ergonomic and comfortable, delivering a pleasant typing experience that rivals more expensive models.
Overall, the Acer Chromebook strikes a perfect balance between affordability and functionality. It’s

I have purchased a total of six Acer 15 chromebooks over the years for me and other family members for three main reasons. One- this is by far the most durable Chromebook out of other brands I have purchased, including HP and Asus, that actually holds up for more than a year. Two- large screen and good battery life. Three- price- I just picked one up for only $150 at Best Buy without touchscreen. My last one lasted 4 years. Acer gives you alot of ports on this model. Ports inevitably go bad with time and lots of use, so you have a second port to use when one eventually goes. Highly recommend for basic use.

Got this for my daughter for college. Boy, Chromebooks have come a long way in the last 7 years! Solid WiFi connection. Large, clear screen. Nice battery life. Full sized keyboard. Lightweight for easy portability. The included computer sleeve is a nice touch. Great for anything browser based, especially the Google suite of apps.
