Great Computer with good components that will last

This is a fantastic mid to high range computer. It comes with enough memory int he SSD to cover almost all programs and games that your require. The SSD comes complimented with a 1TB hard drive that will store all video, pictures, or side games that you will need ( The hard drive runs at 7200 rpms which is very good). It runs on Windows 10 so that is good and it comes with 2 fast sticks of 8GB DDR4 ram at a solid 2400 MHz which is above the average of 2133. The graphics card that mine came with was the ASUS Turbo GTX 1070 which is basically the lowest of the low when it comes to 1070's , but it will do its job to the extreme. You will have no issues running all games on high at 1080p with 60+ fps and most games at even ultra. Also it comes with an i7-7700 as the processor which is complete overkill and will last you years. Those are the specs and here is what I use it for and how it is performing. I am using this computer as a streaming computer for my twitch channel. I have my main pc plugged into a 3rd party capture card which is plugged in through a USB to this computer. I am streaming at the highest bit-rate and at 1080p 60fps. It is performing beautifully, it is doing all this with 2 monitors. I am very happy with this purchase if you are looking for a good starting computer to stream and game with then this is it, and if you are looking for a pure content and streaming computer then this is perfect. Also I thought that this should also be included the build of this computer is extremely solid and it is dead quiet with zero temperature problems when I am streaming or rendering video.

This is my first gaming desktop pc, having an ASUS G60jx (gaming laptop) before. I know what to expect from a gaming rig, but this has beaten everything on my checklist. What checklist you ask? Well... read on youngin's. I seriously researched different gaming desktops for over three months being torn between building and buying and finally getting impatient, (and a little lazy) I bought this. So happy I did. It is the same price as building the one I wanted spec wise with a 256gb ssd instead of a 128gb. Not to mention this was before buying windows on a USB. Speaking of Windows, it is at the lock screen from a cold start up in 4-5 seconds. (It's on the ssd) Ok, so what did I need this desktop for anyway? I am an avid gamer on consoles and wanted to break into desktop gaming with the option of streaming to twitch. What a machine! I7 7700 3.6ghz of processing handles all background/current use tasks easily using the 16gb ram and doing it quietly too. Only heavy gaming will raise the idle speed of the fans. Graphics are ridiculous thanks to the nvidia GTX 1070 8gb card that has handled any game I've thrown at it. Not only that, but doing so while streaming. Side note: I use OBS to encode and broadcast my gameplay and I have it set to use the graphics card to encode almost all of it. CPU helps a little, but 90-95% of it is all graphics card. Ok, so there is my performance requirements, what about extra perks or bells and whistles that come with this machine? Glad you asked. It DOES come with a keyboard and mouse. The description was a little lacking besides saying keyboard under the specifics. The mouse is a standard black two button with a scroll wheel. I had a Logitech g502 I ordered with the desktop so I can't tell you how it performs. It's wired. The keyboard looks like a standard keyboard that's wired. It has non-concave keys though so that took some getting used to. (Still contemplating buying g910.) It is NOT backlit, so if you plan on playing or typing in low light, be forewarned. It also has standard media keys like play/pause, stop, next, and last. Volume buttons with separate mute buttons as well. The keyboard has launch keys for email, internet, and music I believe too. I don't use them so I can't be sure of the music one, but it definitely has the email and internet ones. So is that it? No way! The case is a slick looking grey with three strips of led backed semi transparent plastic. (On each side) Fun fact: there is software to control the color of these and the front power button, (which is an Alienware logo!) I added an elgato game capture card, because I can't fully give up my consoles and still want to stream them, so I had to install it into the case. A really neat feature some users might never get to see is how it opens the side panel. It is a standard style latch you pull at the back of the tower, but then you don't have to disconnect any connections for those led strips. They use brass pins and plate contacts that don't have to be disconnected when taking off the panel. How cool right? You'll see it if you ever have to get in there. Speaking of being in the guts of the computer, it has a least one extra HDD bay that I can see with power already run. Another ssd down slot at the bottom by the first one installed with power ran as well. Now that I'm thinking about perks, there is software for fan control as well so you can set presets for games that you know are heavy on the pc or rendering programs to get a jump start on cooling. It says that I should put things I maybe don't like about the desktop in my review. If I had to choose things I didn't care for, I would say the cd drive is one. I don't use it, but it's a laptop style popout one. It kind of feels just a last minute thought. That's really all I can think of.

    Graphics card/Motherboard nightmare

Trying to use the DELL Aurora R6 for VR. It was highly recommended by this site: https://www.vrheads.com/best-desktop-pc-vr I really should have done other research first. The graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce 1070) isn't recognized by the driver. In the Device Manager, there is an alert icon (the yellow one with the exclamation point) and the Properties tab shows a Windows Error Code 43. I've updated/replaced the driver several times, and had two tech visits. They've replaced both the 1070 card AND the motherboard. I refreshed the BIOS, and tried to start over with a Factory Restore (thereby returning it to the initial state it came in.) After several attempts, it won't even let me restart (stating an error message in the dreaded blue screen.) I've just sent it back to the factory. I'm trying to be patient, but I really don't understand how a brand new machine could fail so completely. Definitely the worst tech investment I've ever made by far.

Alienware has always had great products, and this is no different. It runs GREAT out of the box. It comes with an OCZ RD400 (Toshiba) M.2 boot drive and a good 7200RPM data drive. The i7700 processor with 630 graphics is great, but wait, it comes with an Nvidia GTX1070 and 8GB. There is 16GB (absolute minimum standard IMO) RAM (Micron DDR4-2400, dual channel 8GBx2) on a Z270 motherboard. PRO - all the above CON - only one HDMI port on the 1070 - all front/top USB ports are 2.0 (3.0/3.1 rear) - horrible mouse/keyboard. This is a friggin Alienware not a no-name box! - no BluRay drive, just DVD optical. Might as well have saved the space. OVERALL - excellent box, excellent performance. Would recommend.

pretty nice PC, super fast even with all my memory eating software and multi-task operations. I like the way the OS and desktop is on the SS drive and a separate 1T drive can store all other data. I also had them install an additional 4T for more data storage and an additional internal backup. The gaming capacity doesn't mean anything to me, but it's ability to process large high resolution graphic files does quickly does. Very happy with it so far.

If you want a relatively affordable gaming machine that can handle anything you throw at, this is a good one to consider. Is it perfect? No but for the price, it delivers. It's got the Quad Core I7 (7th gen), 16 Gig of Ram and a 1070 card in an attractive package ... instant gratification. Serious gaming rigs are over $5,000 with all the bragging rights to go with them. This isn't in that class but so far has been performing well. OK ... what bothers me about it. It needs a quality sound card and the DVD Drive is cheap but at this price point they had to cut corners. I like the SSD and SETA Hard Drives and there's plenty of USB Ports. Bottom line ... for the money, it's hard to find a better machine for what you get.

I purchased an Acer predator G3 from costco prior to the Aurora R6. The G3 had better specs and was a lot cheaper than the Aurora R6 so I thought it was a no-brainer to go with the Acer. Long story short, I ended up returning my G3 gaming tower to costco because it kept crashing over and over again. The Aurora R6 may not be the cheapest but it seems to be worth every penny. Great performance, runs smooth, fast, and it works every time. Overall, I am very pleased with my Aurora R6.

Definitely in need of this if you are using 4k video editing or uploading videos, downloading videos or doing gaming. Wicked fast speeds it's unbelievable. Extremely hard to overload or jam it up. Best purchase I have ever made. Don't mistake Alienware for strictly gaming PC just bc of the name, it's good for all other uses as well.

    Great Gaming Desktop from Dell

So I'll admit, part of the reason why I wanted to get this model was because it has the same name as my daughter :-). Aside from that though I was comparing it against a similar HP OMEN desktop from Best Buy, and more expensive models from Dell and Cyberpower. I would have preferred getting the Dell model with the Geforce 1080 in it (and I think this one may also have water cooling for the CPU built-in) but that model wasn't available at my local Best Buy and as an adult I've gotten used to being able to drop by the local store and grab something quickly rather than waiting for it to be shipped and take a few more days to arrive (call me impatient :-). Overall though the price was good with the $150 off Best Buy was offering this model from the normal price the other week. The 256 GB m.2 SSD is a bit limited so I'm throwing more things (like games from Steam) onto the 1 TB regular HDD at the moment, but my plan is to purchase a 1 TB (maybe even 2 TB) m.2 Samsung SSD in the next year or so and enjoy that for a few years since I'll likely be using this desktop for the next 4-6 years (I still have an almost 9 year old Gateway FX Desktop running/working that I decommissioned after purchasing this Alienware computer). One reason why I chose the Alienware model over the HP OMEN desktop was that this one has the USB-C port on the back which I felt was a little more future proof, though I did also like the fact the HP OMEN desktop had an SD card slot along the top (which I wished the Alienware had since it does come in handy, though maybe not as much nowadays as it used to with lots of things having alternative options for getting photos off of SD/MicroSD cards). So far, I've loaded up the machine with Starcraft II and a few games off of Steam, but I haven't done a ton of gaming on it just yet. I purchased this along with the Dell 27" G-Sync Monitor and received an extra $50 discount for the monitor by buying them together (which I didn't realize until later) and so far with playing Starcraft II it's been a beautiful experience compared to the performance I had gaming from my older ASUS laptop (which had an older mobile Geforce 745M card in it) which had been my primary machine the last few years. Maybe in another video card generation (or two) I'll upgrade the graphics card again, but the Geforce GTX 1070 does seem to have excellent performance so I'll probably be happy with it for a few years. Thinking about trying out some VR stuff eventually, but will need to wait until the next generation of VR hardware comes out before I take the plunge. I also like that so far the machine has been pretty cool (the fans don't seem to spin up too often and aren't that noticeable when they do). For a number of years I had been using a laptop as my main computer since it was easy for me to disconnect the laptop from my monitor in my home office and take it with me and continue working (either in the house or on the road). In recent months though I found I was doing that less and less, so the laptop was staying connected in the home office almost all of the time and I didn't like disconnecting it much to take it back with me in the house or other places. I had recently grabbed an HP Spectre Laptop that way I'd have something even lighter/easier to use to be my mobile unit and even though it has a 4K screen on that laptop I have it set to the same 2560x1440 resolution I have at work (and now here with the Alienware Desktop + Dell 27" G-Sync Monitor). Now I've replaced that ASUS Laptop with this new Alienware Desktop so I can good gaming performance and have it as my general work at home PC (since I do a fair amount of programming from here too in the evenings/weekends). Very happy with my purchase so far!

    Great for 3D Graphics Software

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I am a freelance graphic artist and have been utilizing 3D software more and more lately. The demands of rendering and displaying 3D content had begun to put a strain on my MacBook Pro and I wanted a computer better suited for the tasks at hand. My software pipeline includes Modo, ZBrush, Octane Renderer, and Substance Designer/Painter. To summarize, the Alienware computer fits my needs very well. Getting to the Alienware purchase was a bit a journey though. I originally purchased a Dell XPS. I hadn’t used a Windows computer in quite a while and was pleasantly surprised Windows 10 is relatively easy to start working with. The Dell, had a lot of good features, but a defective CD drive and the lack of proper cables to connect the monitor soured the experience and I returned it for another computer. Before I returned the Dell, I ran several rendering benchmarks in Modo and discovered that I was able to effectively double my rendering speed compared to my Mac laptop. It should also be pointed out that the Dell could display higher quality graphics in the viewports more smoothly than my laptop can. ZBrush ran much smoother as well. My next try at a new computer was an iBuyPower. After doing additional research, I discovered the included graphics card in a gaming machine could be better suited for using the Octane Renderer (a very fast GPU rendering solution) than what was included in the Dell. In testing the iBuyPower computer, I was able to double the Octane render speeds compared to the Dell. Unfortunately, the iBuyPower came with a defective wifi adapter, a broken mouse, and other annoying glitches. After using and relying on Macs for so long, it was disappointing to purchase two defective PC’s back to back. One would think if you purchased a Dell computer with a Dell monitor that one would get the proper cables to connect the two together instead of collection of useless monitor cables. I was still intrigued by how much quicker I could render on a PC and did further research. I upped my budget for an even better graphics card and found the Alienware Aurora R6. Fortunately, I can report that the third try was the charm. The Alienware has been a reliable performer for the past month. Everything works as expected. My suite of 3D software feels snappy and my Wacom tablet works perfectly. My only complaints; the included mouse is cabled and feels a little cheap and the included keyboard feels a little clunky. A big feature of the Mac for me is how smooth the mouse input feels and how solid their keyboards feel, so that’s what I am comparing here. I realize this is a personal preference and the included keyboard may be great for gaming as that’s its intended use. I did replace the mouse with a wireless Logitech 510 mouse. While it took a bit of patience to get things worked out, I am very happy with the Alienware and very thankful Best Buy made it simple to return the Dell and iBuyPower machines. My rendering speeds in Modo have more than doubled what I was able to achieve on my MacBook Pro. Octane render wasn’t even an option without a CUDA based GPU which increases render speeds roughly tens times faster than rendering in Modo. ZBrush and Substance Painter/Designer work very smooth as well.

This computer is more than what I need for gaming. With the 1070 graphics card I can run any game in ultra mode settings. CSGO I get over 120fps, everything runs so smoothly. This computer matched with a 144hertz monitor is the perfect setup for me. I should be gaming for years to come.

I bought this computer because I heard so many good things about AlienWare computers. I initially tried to buy an AlienGear computer directly from Dell, but after three delays for more than 3 weeks, I cancelled my order with Dell and saw I could get a better AlienGear computer from BestBuy.com and pick it up same-day in the store for a lower price (on sale too). I was so glad I found Best Buy was a much better deal. The computer's SSD, which holds the operating system, is ultra-fast (the boot time to receive the logon prompt for Windows 10 is about 20 seconds) and plenty big enough at 250 GB. The secondary drive (1 TB) is where I keep my files / data and that too is plenty big. I was surprised how cool the system operates - it appears to be designed very well. I would recommend this desktop to anyone that wants a fast computer.

I initially bought the Asus ROG and after switching to this one, I don't see a single reason to go back. Cons: - The keyboard and mouse are fairly cheap, but they don't advertise them as anything special so I don't ding it for that. -A little more pricey than similar PC's that are available via online from BestBuy. Pros: -The SSD is quick and HDD gives plenty of storage for whatever else you need. -The 1070 is astounding at running anything I throw at it. -Gives you a lot of control and information about everything the PC is doing. From customizing the colors on the box, to telling you all the temps and when you want the fans to kick up to keep it running cooler. -It's surprisingly quiet. It's great out of the box, I would absolutely buy it again.
