    Good but it's no Android

I "upgrade" from an LG G5 Android phone to an iPhone 8 Plus running iOS 11.0.3. Some things were better and some were not. While my family has had many Android and iOS devices, the iOS devices cost more but generally get (much) more use, plus they hold their value better. My favorite Android device (which has gotten a lot of use) has been my phone (an LG G2, then G4, then G5). UPDATE: I ended up returning the iPhone 8 Plus and ordered a Pixel 2. There was just too much missing from iOS and the iPhone that Android had plus I was disappointed with the camera. I think the iPhone 8 is a decent phone but it's not for me. Read below for more. Hardware comparisons: * The G5 was much cheaper than the iPhone. * The G5 has a user replaceable battery and microSD slot. * The G5 is not waterproof but the iPhone is. * The G5 has dual cameras and one is a wide angle lens... I will miss the wide angle lens. * The G5 has fast charging and includes the needed cable and power adapter to do so. The iPhone 8 supposedly also has fast charging, but it will cost you $$$ to buy the needed cable and power adapter. * The G5 has a small color charge/notification LED which is nice. The iPhone can use the flash for alerts (General->Accessibility->LED Flash for Alerts). * The G5 photo aspect ratio is 16:9 and the iPhone's is 4:3. I *MUCH* prefer 16:9. Disappointed. * My G5 developed a focusing problem with the main camera where photos would often be blurry, which is what prompted me to start researching new phones. * The iPhone 8 Plus also has dual cameras, but no wide-angle camera... however, you get a 2X optical zoom camera and portrait mode photos which I am looking forward to. * The iPhone 8 has (slow) wireless charging but the G5 does not. * The iPhone 8 has 3D Touch but the G5 does not. * The iPhone feels like high end hardware, has a great IPS screen, and has great build quality but it's a little on the heavy side. The G5 is good too but doesn't seem quite up to the iPhone. * The glass back worries me but Consumer Reports says it is a rugged phone and survived their "tough 100 drops in the tumbler with just some minor scratches". iOS/iPhone negatives: * Speech recognition is not as advanced but it's not terrible either. * Speech recognition does not give you options to choose from a list of phrases of what you might have said. * I found it virtually impossible to place the cursor in the middle of a word when editing text. * Sometimes when I tap something it doesn't respond and I have to tap it again. This seems to happen mostly on small buttons. I didn't have this issue on the G5. * No always on display feature to show time and notifications. Many Android phones have had this for awhile, including the G5. Hopefully Apple will add this in an update as it's a very useful and convenient feature. * Can't configure bottom row of touch buttons. On Android, I had a button to quickly show and hide notifications. I found it better and faster than having to swipe down. * It seems Apple does not allow custom keyboards to access voice dictation... which means you have to switch keyboards to the standard one in order to access voice dictation. I use voice dictation a lot on my Android. * Home screen is not as configurable. Cannot control icon layout as much. * Some of my favorite apps (frequently used) are not available on iOS, like NOAA Weather and ColorNote. * You can turn on 'Reduce Motion' to limit animations that slow things down, but there are still some fades and other effects that you can't turn off. * Sharing photos to Google Drive made me always select the same folder (it didn't remember the selected folder). iOS/iPhone positives: * Frequent iOS updates. This is a big deal compared to most Android phones. * Easier to communicate with other people who also have iPhones (and there are a lot of them). * Can say "Hey Siri" to access Siri even when phone is laying down idle and without touching it. * Better security (so I've read). * Good integration across iPhones and iPads. * I like the way that news is integrated.

    iPhone 8

Apple has released one of its newest models, the IPhone 8. It comes in two different sizes, 4.7-inch display and 5.5-inch display and comes in three different colors, silver, gold, and space gray. There are two capacities, 64GB and 256 GB, depending on how much storage one uses. The phone comes in a box with a charger, headphones, and a headphone jack adapter. The IPhone is an all glass design and is resistant to water and dust. It also has a new display called true tone that adjusts white balance to match the light around you, to view in any environment. There is also an option to charge the phone wirelessly but that charger does not come with the phone, it is sold separately. The camera has deeper pixels and optical image stabilization for photos and videos. Portrait mode is a filter that takes sharper and naturally blurred background photos. PROS • Some of the pros is that it is a simple phone for any age to use. • You are able to adjust the screen font size and the brightness. • It is easy to navigate around the phone. Being a student it has helped a lot because it almost like a mini computer. There’s almost apps for anything that one is interested in. • The all glass design makes it feel and look luxurious. • Having the phone be water resistant is a nice feature because then you don’t have to worry about it being damaged. • The camera quality makes the photos come out raw and crisp. Details, saturation and definition makes the photos come out more natural. I don’t feel the need to have to buy a nice quality camera. It has new filters, better flash, and portrait mode. CONS • It does not have a headphone jack which can be an inconvenient at times, if you were to not have the headphone jack adapter. • The home button can’t be pressed all the way down unless your finger is on it. • Pricy and may not be affordable. Overall the IPhone 8 is simple and easy to use. I would give this product a 4 out of 5 because it does not have a headphone jack and it can be an inconvenient at times. The camera has made an impression on me, how well it’s able to capture photos and videos. I would definitely recommend this product.

With the announcement of iphone 8, I was a bit skeptical at first whether to go for it. After giving a considerable thought, I decided to five it a try. If you are going to go for it, do give a read on the below: Pros: 1. A significant improvement on the camera: There has been some significant upgrades on the camera end. The pictures are crisp and clear. Not to forget the front cam modes which, though some are in beta, are still a cut above the rest. 2. Louder stereo speakers: This might not be significant to everybody, however, it is worthy to me. I stay alone most of the time and this feature helps me not craving for the headphones when at home. 3. Augmented Reality and iOS 11: The internal software are a top notch. This phone has a lot of potential which we are all yet to explore, but we would eventually. Cons: 1. Same old design: Its been a while since I think the same design is being migrated from the previous older iphone models. Although, they are slimmer, but this is 2017. We already have bezel less displays in many phones. Although, Apple brought it alive with the iphone X, I would've appreciated had they reduced the bezel in this model as well. 2. Lack of 3.5 mm jack: While we may still whine about it, there is no 3.5 mm jack returning to iphone ever. The extra cable makes it look weird when in use with other headphones. Even cheapest Beats model comes with a 3.5 mm connector with no bluetooth. This makes me think apple need to understand their game properly before finalizing any product. 3. Lack of quick charge from in-box: I cannot simply imagine spending another 80 bucks just for getting a quick charge. Although other phones have it included in the bx directly. Overall, the iphone is quite sturdy and with the addition of wireless charging, I am quite satisfied with the product. I personally rely on one cable and multiple Qi charger pads. This makes life easier to an extent. It would be easiest when all companies enable USB Type C in all devices. However, when it comes to this iphone, I'd definitely say, go for it. It is a major worthy upgrade.

Last November I made the switch. Ever since modern smartphones began around 2007-2008, I'd been an Android fan. I had the original Droid from Motorola, then a couple of follow up Motorola models...I then bought an HTC 8 which I loved, a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge which I loved, with some caveats, then after ten years of Android, I made the switch to iPhone! What made me change? I bought my wife her first smartphone recently; an iPhone 6s. Setting it up for her I immediately noticed the jewel like quality of the device; the hardware. Playing with the phone I also noticed the flawless and seamless operation of the iOS. I was mesmerized. THIS was a great phone. Even though I had a few months left until 2 years was up on my Galaxy S7 edge, I went into Verizon's store and made the switch. It's been almost ten months and the novelty of the iPhone still hasn't worn off. It's simply the best phone I've ever owned. I chose the iPhone 8 4.7 inch screen for it's size. The camera is fabulous and the operating system is so smooth. I own an iPad so it wasn't a total surprise but there are no more Android jutters and flaws. I didn't get the iPhone X because I love the perfection of Apple's fingerprint sensor. I love the home button and to my eye there wasn't a huge difference in display quality, since Apple knows how to make a GREAT LCD screen. I used to like all of the customization available on Android but Apple now has Google Calendar (which I love) and third party swype-type keyboards, which are a must for me. Apple lets the user customize much more than previously. I love getting my iTunes music library on my phone now too. I guess I'm an iPhone fanboy for life now. This iPhone 8 is the very last iPhone of this perfect size and a home button. Rumor has it Apple is working on an under-screen fingerprint sensor for it's 2019 iPhones and I may upgrade to the iPhone 12 then but for now, the iPhone 8 with it's wireless charging, good battery life, smooth operation, great camera and super high quality construction is my best phone ever! You cannot go wrong with this

I'm prefacing this review by stating I spent A LOT of time researching the pros and cons of the iPhone 8 Plus versus the iPhone X. Ultimately, I decided to go with the 8 Plus for a couple of reasons. -TouchID vs FaceID: I am not convinced Apple needed an alternative lock mechanism for iOS, and I don't think FaceID is the answer. For one, you have to be looking at your phone directly to unlock it. There are many times where I'm at my desk at work and my phone is a few feet to my side. Having the ability to unlock the phone with my finger without always bringing the phone up to my face is actually pretty important. -Screen size: Despite Apple's marketing, the iPhone 8 Plus still has more screen real estate than the iPhone X. By only increasing the height of the iPhone X rather than the width, Apple distorted the aspect ratio. Most videos on Youtube or other common streaming apps don't support the full ratio on the iPhone X, so you're not really getting anything more for that extra $200. -Price: As I just mentioned, the iPhone 8 Plus is at least $200 cheaper than the iPhone X for the base model. This is not something to ignore considering how overpriced iPhones are to begin with. Given how quickly most Americans purchase new smartphones, it might be worth it to start picking a slightly cheaper model that does almost exactly the same thing as the more expensive one. Finally, the last reason that caused me to pick the 8 Plus over the X is because Apple released the 8 Plus in this gorgeous red edition. This phone is SLEEK, and with a clear case you can really show off the beautiful design of your new phone.

Amazing features on the camera! I wish there was a guide of how to get the most out of your phone when you switch to a new one! I had some problems setting it up, the light is like a beacon for boats while sweating it up and the process took over a half hour and I switched fro and iPhone 6s w only 16 gbs so there wasn’t much to do. It has updated 3xs already and I’m learning as I go but a tutorial would be great to come w the phone. I am sad that you don’t provide the charging split to charge and have head phones if need be but I guess everything cost money. The water proof feature is nice but I am scared to try it even w a life proof case on. I do have problem w getting reception and late texts messages I am told they sent it previous. And I can be sitting in the same place and have two bars and a minute later I look up and there are four bars and I have Verizon which is prominent in our area... told there isn’t a resolution that just happens sometimes. I hate that they took away the keyboard feature to double click caps lock to keep capital letters going! The lighting is crazy on this I’m sure if a zombie apocalypse happens I can keep them away! Camera is great processing seems slow at times but told that must be cell service so I’m confused which it really is. I love my iPhone either way and wouldn’t ever go back to android. I have a ton of storage now too! With a case it’s hard to hear and sometimes they can’t hear me too but being told that’s the case... maybe we need more volume or a setting that you have a case on it.... hmmm only other thing is the pricing for these is sooooo expensive by now you must have constantly reused some designed parts that shouldn’t cost so much to roll out new ones! I’m glad I won a certificate at Best Buy to pay for most of it! Otherwise I never buy new wait a year and it $3-400 cheaper.

I like the glass back and the new wireless charging technologies. Phone works well. My only complaint about purchasing this from Best Buy was that when I bought it, I thought I was buying an unlocked device. I was not made aware though, that once I insert a SIM Card into the device, it would lock to the carrier of that SIM Card even though I had paid for it in full. Best Buy really needs to be clear about this when selling to customers. It caused a major ordeal for me when I was helping a client buy an iPhone. To avoid this, as it turns out, you can insert a Verizon SIM into the phone from the beginning and once it activates temporarily on the Verizon SIM, it will permanently unlock the device. Verizon is required by law for all their devices to be unlocked, so if you do that first, it will permanently unlock the phone. Best Buy does not sell truly unlocked phones, they sell phones ready to lock on the carrier they are activated on, so be sure and put in a Verizon SIM first if there is any chance you may need to change carriers before you have met the terms of your carrier unlock policy.

Oh this phone is snappy! Going from the SE to the 8 is pretty nice. Yes there is no plug in for headphones, the 8+ has more features but it comes with earphones with a lightning connector. It even comes with plug in for earphones that will never get used. 5 watt adapter. I think apple could send some more extras but oh well. Typing with one hand kind of sucks but oh wait there’s a feature for that I can have the keyboard on one side. The phone is heavier though. It feels really nice and smooth. I got a bulky case for it. I’m thinking a screen protector and a skin case would feel more comfy. I feel like the phone is more comfy without a case. Set up is a breeze with another apple device. Of course this phone was still on iOS 11 I’m guessing it would’ve been a much more smoother set up on iOS 12. iOS 11 was pain. 12 runs smooth even on my husband’s 5s. I was worried the screen would be just a slight bigger and I might hate it. I think the plus might be a bit too big unless maybe with the right case. Gaming and videos work good for me for this screen size. I was hoping I could set it on the counter and watch it I’m not sure about that. Speakers sound great. The home button is different I’m not sure if it’s good or bad. Overall I like it a lot

My previous phone was the 6s and for me the change to the 8+ was worth it. I decided on a bigger screen because of age and still getting used to the size but the phone has worked great. Immediately noticed better phone reception and WiFi connectivity. It works on places the 6s did not and the battery has been outstanding, I find myself charging once a day only. It does take a bit to get used to no regular headphones jack but the phone came with an adapter which can also be bought for $9 for regular headphones use. I intend to buy a couple and keep them in the car and gym bag. The camera is noticeably better and with many options, and although, I use it mostly for quick shots since I prefer real pictures with my cannon or GoPro, i think it will drive me to use it more. The phone does feel warmer than the 6s when in use which is scary with all the talks about batteries bursting but so far it has only been the warmer feel. The screen resolution is also great with two settings (normal and true tone) but feel the true tone makes it yellowish and I stayed away from it. The new side keyboard feature works great specially when walking the Dogs (Wrigley and Leo) since I can use only a hand to type texts. Car Connect seems to also have gotten faster at connecting with the phone although it may be a feature of the new software.

I've had this phone now for a couple of months and now feel comfortable reviewing this. I previously came from an iphone 6, not the plus, so this was a bit of an upgrade for me. I love the size first of all... it really does make viewing anything in it quite a pleasure and I see more information per page now versus the standard iphone size. Compared to the iphone 10... I believe the features to mostly (95%) be the same. Sure there is no button anymore but I believe that I am able to open my phone faster than the X simply due to the fingerprint sensor. In comparison, the X does look great as the absence of the button does make it look more minimal and "technologically advanced". I guess if you really wanted the better resolution but not the size of the phone as I have heard many people say that they can't get the plus due to its sheer size, then get the X. Still, I could not justify the extra $200 for the X... nor the wait at the time. I'd like to think that these days most of these phones are comparable. The things I mostly value in a cell phone in this day and age include the following: battery life, charging time, texting, and email. I'd say most cell phones are capable of high ratings in those departments. Because for me the plus provided the largest battery life, I got it and have been extremely satisfied with it. Other than a couple other things, which are due to software updates and such, I believe this phone to perfectly fulfill my needs.

This is a Christms gift so it has not yet been opened, but I purchased this same phone from Best Buy last Christmas for my daughter and she loves it as much today as she did last year!! So much so, that she didnt even consider buying the new Iphone X! (thank god lol). So I have NO doubt my teenage son will love it just as much, especially since he has the iphone 6...a big upgrade! Seriously cannot WAIT for him to open it!!! A must buy phone, extremely durable as well. My 25 yr old daughter drops her phone i swear multiple times a day onto pavement, at work on concrete floors, you name it! And it still looks as good as it did brand new! And that is with a very thin case! I say if you are looking for a great phone, buy this one for sure! I dont like iphones personally..probably cuz im old and i dont understand the interface that well hahaha. Ill stick with my Note 9! But if you are an iphone lover, or your child is..dont hesitate!! :-)

I have had iPhones for many years but I was very disappointed in the iPhone 7. My battery wouldn't even last through a day. I ended up getting a Samsung Galaxy S8 and I really loved the quality of the screen, the camera and the battery life... but I missed having an iPhone because of iCloud and how well everything worked with my iPad and MacBook. So when the 8 plus came out I was curious if it would be worth getting rid of a nearly new phone... At first I admit I was disappointed it looked like the same predecessors. I felt like Apple had really fallen behind the times. I was considering the X but I want to have the fingerprint sensor and I disliked the 'cut out' at the top. I ended up taking a chance and getting the 8 plus - and I am SO happy I did. I love this phone!! It lasts me all day, even streaming music all day at work. It takes beautiful photographs. Everything just WORKS the way I want it to, the way it should. I think this is far better than the 7 (to be fair I had didn't have the 7 plus, so maybe that makes a difference). I'm very happy to be back with Apple. :)

I was skeptical about getting the iPhone 8 Plus since I have the 7 Plus, thinking of waiting for the iPhone X. The more I read and seen the X, I am not a fan of the displays cutout. I decided to preorder the 8 Plus. Best Buy’s preorder service was terrible, but the iPhone is better than expected. The glass back and weight feels very top notch. The cameras are superb and fast. I am really impressed with the automatic adjusting display, colors and picture are awesome. I am definitely glad I decided to get it, knowing I won’t feel like I made a mistake when the X is released.

The red body to the phone is very attractive, hence why for the first time I have a clear case. The phone is light weight and well built, so small flaws. The volume is low and doesn’t get very loud. Apple touts its built in speaker, but it no different. The camera is bar-none the best one of all the IPhones I have had, crystal clear, quick recovery time for follow ups if not using burst. Single strength not as strong as my 6Plus, also the battery isn’t much better. Apple states it has improved but not really. No significant difference. Apps are quicker and more responsive.

This phone is awesome in a LOT of ways! Totally unexpected sound quality for games is amazing! The screen is better than my other iPhones - although I did upgrade to the Plus so it is also larger. Everything very similar to the other iPhones I have had. The problem is that people cannot always hear me when I talk. I am a realtor and I use it as my business phone. So if you only text and want a great phone for games and picture quality - this is it! If you need to talk on your phone - this might not be the one for you. Glad that I purchased the apple care because it worked well the first two weeks - I may have an addition to my review after I trade it in on a new one.

If you aren’t an iPhone user and are considering this phone, I won’t spoil it! Iphone 8 plus You will love every part of owning the iPhone, from setting it up and personalizing, to every day photography, music, organizing, exercise, games, group chat, iMessage with family out-of-country, etc!!! Absolutely the best iPhone yet! Love it!!! Cons: Absolutely can not stand the tiny charging cable it comes with. It doesn’t even reach from the outlet to the top of the table...You cannot use anything except factory cable if you do not want to pretty much void warranty if something happens. (Get Apple care and you can use whatever you please!) if you have a laptop with a USB port, just charge it there and make it a habit. You can charge it and back up your phone at the same time, and the cable length won’t be such a huge issue.

I had an iPhone 6 and have been waiting for the latest models to come out. After the release of the 8, 8 Plus and ensuing X, I decided on the 8 Plus as the camera features were similar to the X, less an option I really didn’t need. The other X features look cool but not a $200 upgrade for me, so I opted for the 8 Plus, and am glad I did. Super fast, great screen resolution, no ‘notch’ (which would distract me), and the camera is PERFECT for my needs. Portrait mode and lighting (Beta) is awesome. A GREAT choice and highly recommended!

Recently upgraded from an iPhone 6s to an 8+. Got used to the size of the phone within a week. The 6s started having issues with the microphone, speakers, and the battery life, therefore I needed to upgrade. I'm glad that I did. The only problem with the phone is that Apple thought it was a great idea to keep the same design of the phone throughout the years. Not necessarily a bad thing because "if it's not broken, don't fix it". Other than having the same design, this version of the iPhone is really the best and fastest one yet. Battery life is phenomenal. If you're deciding between the 8+ and the X, and you don't mind the same design agaaaain, save your money and go for the 8+. If you want to be the cool kid on the block for a few days go get the X.

The Apple Iphone8+, is the best cell phone I have ever owned. I went from a Samsung Galaxy S6 to an S8 just to try it out and this phone doesn't even compare to the Apple. I enjoyed the S6 but the S8 was the worse phone to get. First off, Android has nothing but OS issues, most of my apps would just close out and battery issues as well, second the screen protector came off and the curve screen was another issue with the glare. So, I thought it out and I figure I try out the Apple, and I am really impressed with what this phone has. I haven't had any issues with the Apps, screen and the battery is amazing. I can go almost 3 days with a full battery. You can't do that with an Android. I really believe that once you go Apple you will never go back. Great phone!

I was interested in upgrading my iPhone and went to Best Buy to explore my options. The Best Buy Tech person listened to my needs and ran comparisons of the 7, 8 and X models where I wound up choosing this 8 Plus phone and am very happy with it so far. The set up and integration to my current cell account was quick and seamless. The transfer of my data to the new phone was quick and painless and the credit I received for the turned in iphone was a big plus. So far I'm very satisfied with the new phone's battery live, screen size, resolution and very fast processor speed. The camera is excellent for both photos as well as video. I would recommend Best Buy if anyone is interested in upgrading their iPhone!
