First the good. The keyboard looks nice, the space gray with the black keys look very high quality. If you want something that visually looks good on your desk in order to impress other people, this is it. The keyboard DOES in fact work in a wired mode if you intend on using it with a KVM switch or on a non-Apple device without Bluetooth. I used it on a KVM with both a Mac and Windows 10 machine without issues. You do need to switch it ON for it to work, even in wired mode. And the Bluetooth works as intended. Then the bad. I am coming off the previous A1243 wired Apple 101 keyboard era, the silver one with the white keys. When I decided to get this new Space Gray keyboard, I had thought that the only difference between the two keyboards would be the color and the Bluetooth feature. I was wrong. They made a complete overhaul of their previous keyboard; or rather they just made an entirely new keyboard that fails to carry over the quality of the previous keyboard into this new generation. The keyboard width and key spacing is smaller than the A1243, so it feels more like trying to type on a laptop keyboard than on a real full sized keyboard. I keep missing the keys I need to press because they're several centimeters off from what I would normally type. The keys actually feel and sound very cheap, this is one of the most disappointing aspects of this keyboard. I've had $12 keyboards with much higher quality keys than this. Also, the keys are about half the depth of the chiclet keys of the previous A1243 models, so when I press them, it doesn't feel like I'm not making much of an impact, the tactile feedback is poor, like pressing into a pocket of air, and it's easy to mistake keys for other keys when typing -- also, I often can't feel when the key press is physically complete (touch-down-lift-up). This gives the keys a very hallow feel and at times if feels like I'm typing on nothing; I can't "feel" what I'm typing and very often I have to look down at the keys just to type something coherently, and most times I have to slow down my typing. Overall, while it looks nice, it actually feels cheap, it performs very badly, typing on it is a chore, and I wouldn't put this in the $150 category of keyboards, this is more in the range of $20 - $30 as far as keyboards goes and I know from experience, I've had dozens of various keyboards, at various top and bottom prices. At the current price point however, it is a significant rip off. I would advise you not to pay the Apple tax for this. I would not recommend this to my enemies.

As with most things Apple, this keyboard has a nice markup making it significantly more expensive than it's worth. For a wireless keyboard, it really is a simple device with no bells or whistles - nothing to really make it stand out like other expensive I/O devices I've purchased in the past - and as such is the only reason for the 4 star review. Quality wise, this keyboard is on par with Apple products. Ironically however, not their recent keyboard design in their most expensive laptop which happens to be the targeted computer I'm using this keyboard and trackpad (separate review) with. While the keyboard design in the new MacBook Pro is a poor one, flawed with multiple potential issues that are increasingly likely with time and use, this bluetooth keyboard takes us back to the core design. The keys feel great and solid body construction gives the product a professional and well built appeal. One of the things I was most excited about with this keyboard, moving from the built-in keyboard in the MacBook Pro, is the original arrow key design. I spend a significant amount of time in terminals and IDEs and fly my right hand to the arrows on a regular basis. The new design on in the MacBook Pro reorganizes the keys such that the up and down share the same "space" between the left and right arrows. Coupled with the fact that the space between keys is almost non-existent, it's impossible to know where you are, causing incorrect key presses on a regular basis. (If it's not clear, I don't like the new MacBook Pro key board AT ALL!) The bluetooth keyboard again, takes us back to the standard solving this problem for me. The only other slight negative I have for this keyboard may be a range issue, but I'm not entirely sure. It could by my setup but I found that I needed to relocate my laptop closer and under a monitor in order to get better signal. This wasn't as much as an issue with the keyboard as it was with the trackpad, but it was still noticeable and not great. Luckily the relocation worked and I have had zero issues. After a full charge, I have been using the keyboard daily and it has held a charge for several weeks now. The batter level is easily found within the bluetooth settings/information and the device is easy to charge with the included thunderbolt cable. I would recommend this device if you liked the old style MacBook keyboards and are looking for a solid, well-built, external solution with great battery life.

After buying a new 15" 2018 MacBook Pro, I decided to go all out with my desktop setup and snag this keyboard and a Magic Mouse to match my Space Grey laptop. At first, I wasn't thrilled that I had to get the numeric keypad extension, because I wanted this to be ultra portable. After using it for a few weeks, I'm not disappointed at all, and I've forgotten how nice it is to have the numpad for accounting and such. This bad boy charges ultra fast via lightning, and I love not having to charge batteries relentlessly like I did with my older Apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse. The complaints that I've seen regarding "feel" are completely up to individual preference. This keyboard feels just like the MacBook Pro keyboard, so switching back and forth is a breeze. If you're not used to the butterfly keys, then yes, I can see how this would not be your favorite right away. It's all just a matter of preference. At $150, I wouldn't declare this a must-buy, but if you're building a portable desktop setup that is light and portable, this is a great addition.

I had purchased two additional bluetooth keyboards for my home set-up and they always fell short. The cables either made my desk look cluttered, the high sitting mechanical keyboards would hurt my wrists after several hours of use, or it was just difficult for me to type. I had strongly considered Apple's bluetooth keyboard but wasn't ready to invest in one due to the price point. After weeks of thought I decided to finally go for it. All I can say at this point, is wow, Apple has done it again. They keyboard sits low providing a great ergonomic feel for the wrists and easy typing. Secondly, The space gray just looks good. By the keyboard being bluetooth, there's no messy wires, and the battery will last for weeks with no problem. There is no delay in typing like with some bluetooth keyboards, and this provides a seamless typing experience. I absolutely love this keyboard and highly recommend it. Con: Would be through the roof if this keyboard had a backlit capability for working at night. Not a deal breaker by any means, would have just been nice.

This is a great keyboard, and the extended layout offers so much! Coming from the Apple Wireless Keyboard, this thing is so much nicer. The rechargeable battery via included Lightning cable is so much more convenient, the numpad is very useful for typing a lot of numbers (primarily for data entry on spreadsheets, in my experience), and there are a ton of large function keys for setting up personalized shortcuts in macOS. I definitely do recommend this keyboard, but it is very expensive and adding $20 to the price for a darker color is ridiculous. (Although it is absolutely gorgeous, way more so than the regular silver one) The Space Gray Magic accessories look really nice with a Space Gray computer — I got the trackpad and keyboard for use with my new Space Gray MacBook Pro and they all look amazing together… of course working is more important, but they do work extremely well and I am very happy with my purchase.

I had a Logitech keyboard before this one. I need the number pad on the side. The issue with the logitech was that I had to plug in the receiver to the USB port every time I wanted to use it. Because I have a new MacBook with USB-C ports I had to have an adapter. Not anymore, this connects wirelessly directly to the computer (well I did ha ve to use the adapter to pair them up). I use it every day for very long days at work and the battery was still at 74% even after using it daily for weeks on end. the feel of the keyboard is better than the laptop, but it took me a few days to get used to some different sizes of the keys from the logitech. Overall I'm very happy and others in the office are jealous because now everything I have matches.

I would definitely recommend this keyboard, it’s a solid well built keyboard with excellent battery life. The rechargeable battery via included lightning cable is so convenient and easy to use, and it’s great to have the numpad. Also the wireless pairing to my Mac was seamless and very easy to connect. So far I have had no problems and the keyboard has long battery life. Love the fact it’s rechargeable and I never have to deal with clutter. The keyboard sits low providing a great feel for easy typing. The space gray color looks amazing and keeps cleaner than the old style silver. My only con would be the price but I will have it for years to come.

So far I have had no problems with the keyboard. It works perfectly. However, I have not tried to enter command mode before the computer is up and running. I have had problems in the past with wireless/bluetooth keyboards not connecting before the computer is fully up and running. This makes it impossible to enter command mode in order to reinstall OS. But like I said, I haven't tried that yet, luckily. I have a wired keyboard on hand just in case. Other than that comment, the keyboard works beautifully & is wonderfully designed. Highly recommend. Love the color. No dinginess on the keys over time. I have a white one & it looks terrible.

I’ve been cleaning my old white apple keyboards for years they get so dirty. The new space gray looks so much better and doesn’t get dirty. The rechargeable wireless full size keyboard makes it even better. No more cables on the desk. Now I can sit back and have the keyboard in my lap and relax. The wireless pairing couldn’t be easier you just plug in a lightning cable and then connect the usb to the computer or laptop and switch the keyboard on. The computer detects it and pairs ok it’s own then you can unplug the cable. Anyone can pair the keyboard without pressing buttons. I will never go back to a wired keyboard again.

I'm coming from an older wired mac keyboard with numpad and there is an elevation change and key spacing change in this newer version. With that said I got used to it very quickly and prefer the feeling of the new keyboard over the older one easily. The wireless feature is great and haven't experienced any disconnects or latency. I spend 10 hours or so a day typing on this thing and it's been weeks since I last charged it and it's still at 66% battery. It gets 4 stars only because they charge a premium price for the space gray color. With that said it looks really nice next to the space gray macbook pro.

The keyboards design was way sleeker - buttons had a softer, less harsh clicking sound and the feel was smooth and silky.... however it is a little long- i wound up returning this and getting the magic keyboard 2 and magic trackpad 2 and purchasing a bridge for the two of them on amazon- it's about the same length now as the keybard with numeric pad but functions way better since i used the trackpad more often than numeric

The first time I used this, the bluetooth connection must've gotten messed up somehow, and it held down one of the keys, typing a continuous "h" in any document I clicked on. I couldn't stop it no matter what I did. I finally ran it out of the house to get out of range for it to stop. I gave it another chance, only to have it do the same thing. I'd heard this can happen with this keyboard, but I thought "Oh, surely it won't happen to me." Wrong. Returned.

I bought this as a replacement for my 2012 Mac mini setup and this new keyboard is great. It is much quicker to come out of sleep mode than my previous magic keyboard. I appreciate the separate numeric keyboard as well. Oh and the battery charge is really good. I haven't charged it yet. I'm thinking I'll get a few months between charges at least. I highly recommend this.

Purchased to be used with various MBP's, keyboard feel is identical to the smaller keyboard, traditional keyboard layout useful for those used to the traditional keyboards with numeric keypads. There are other affordable alternatives available elsewhere for full sized keyboards if the buyer is willing to adjust between different keyboard touch/feedback between the builtin laptop keyboard and an external keyboard.

Like the space gray Apple mouse this keyboard is beautiful but high priced. I would argue it is one of the most attractive keyboards I have ever owned if that matters. The only feature I wish the Apple engineers would do is add a way to adjust the angle of the keyboard without stick something underneath the back of it. It is not a problem for the desk I use, but I could see it being an issue for others.

The apple magic keyboard has the best typing surface I have ever used. If you dislike the new MacBook keyboards for being to clicky or short this will be great at your desk. It connects as fast as the computer wakes up from sleep mode so I have had zero issues or delays. I don't turn it off at the end of the day and its still at 80 percent after a month of daily use.

I have a Mac Pro with a newer Magic Keyboard. I never noticed how much I missed from having the extended keyboard. Working with Adobe, Music Editing, & Limited Gaming. This is a new style keyboard and it works. The Space Gray was the main selling point for me. Bluetooth seamless and battery life is excellent.

I love how Apple finally made a 10 key number pad wireless keyboard. The keys on this are different from their past wireless keyboard but they are better than the butterfly style keys on the new macbooks. This keyboard feels very solid and I love the on and off slide style switch and color! I wish this color wasn't more expensive than the white keyboard thought.

I have a 2016 MBP and the one thing I don't like very much is the keyboard. It is loud and when the laptop heats up some keys do not work properly, they feel "sticky". This a-little-overpriced keyboard feels like the old MacBooks. Sits really low making it very comfortable to type. The numeric pad is a plus plus for me. Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase.

With my experience of the keyboard, I find myself not really needing the numeric keypad. While this may be helpful to some, I would only purchase this if you use the numeric keypad or are REALLY wanting to have a space grey keyboard to match your space grey macbook and magic mouse (like me lol). Besides that, this keyboard is amazing and the keys respond very well!
