As much as I've tried to find the best in firesticks, satellite and or cable companies I've been a solid Apple customer for years now so it was a matter of time upon doing proper research on these devices.

Apple TV 2015 - Skip this revolution

https://youtu.be/1zYY0LCZgG0 It has been rumored for years that Apple was developing a product that would revolutionize how we experience television. And what I expected most was for this product to free me from cable companies. Does the new Apple TV live up to the years of built up expectation? In terms of design the Apple TV is simple and doesn’t distract. The remote looks and feels amazing. It is has six buttons a touch surface. You can call up Siri, adjust volume, and control games. Even though the touch surface is a main selling point. It did not do it for me. Sure it’s better, but not by much. Oddly the iphone remote app is not compatible with the new Apple TV. So, you have no convenient way to enter text. When it comes to performance the Apple TV has an A8 64-bit chip. Everything about the Apple TV is snappy and responsive. Games look good This is the best gaming performance you can get out side of the playstation and xbox. It lacks 4k support, but there still isn’t a lot of 4k content so at this point you probably won’t miss it much. The connections will have you covered with HDMI 1.4 and Ethernet. Siri can be a mixed experience on the iPhone. But when Siri has to only answer questions that pertain to movies and tv shows it performs consistently. Apple TV has most of the services you will want. Netflix, Hulu and, of course, iTunes are all here. A significant number of my digital movies are through VUDU, so it is disappointing to see that there is no VUDU app. It is odd that there are apps from VUDU and Amazon Video on the iPhone but not on the Apple TV. Even though the potential of TV-OS is promising, you still need to have a cable subscription to access the shows and movies you normally watch. Specifically, there is no way for you to watch NBC, Fox, ABC, ESPN or AMC for the Walking dead without a subscription. But say you choose to only go with apps that require a monthly subscription. Here is short list that most of us would consider. HBO Now ( for game of thrones) $14.99 , Showtime $11, CBS All Access $6, Netflix (house of cards) $8.99, and let’s add HULU for access to from FOX, NBC and ABC. That’ll cost $11.99. and through the league passes for the NBA($30/month) and MLB($19) that will cost you $101.99/month. If you can skip sports and premium channels and just go with HULU. $11.99 a month is not bad. Any benefits in cost evaporate once you try to add sports. What can I say, the User Interface is second to none. It looks absolutely amazing. It is new and fresh and the parallax posters are a nice touch. This easily beats any UI from the competition. Overall it is really easy to find what I want. For $149 streaming box, the Apple TV offers the best experience when compared to chromecast or Amazon Fire TV. When compared to cable companies, it was disappointing to realize that you don’t actually save much money. Its hard to gauge whether the Apple TV is a great product or if its just the best streaming box amongst a set of mediocre streaming boxes. But the Apple TV has far more potential when compared to the competition. When more apps are created specifically for the Apple TV, apps that are truly interactive, then we will get something that more closely resembles the revolutionary product we’ve been waiting for.

Pros: 1. Great remote 2. Beautiful interface 3. Easy to learn (if familiar with iOS) 4. Small physical design 5. Interactivity with iPhone (mirroring) 6. Speedy Cons: 1. Isn't recognized by my cable provider so I am forced to mirror my phone to watch Apps that require a cable provider log in. Idk whose fault this is, apple or my cable provider, but I maybe wouldn't have bought it if I had known that would be the case. 2. No Amazon instant video app (at least there wasn't one when I was setting it up). I found online that supposedly an app is being built for AppleTv, but again this was another thing missing that disappointed me. Again, not necessarily apple's fault, but disappointing none the less. There are no cons for this product when considering just the product itself (except maybe it's high price)

I have this connected to my 65" LG TV and picture quality is great. Purchased mainly to Airplay my Macbook & iPhone screen to my TV and the feature works better than expected, almost no lag displaying video / pictures / web pages from my computer or phone. There are also some pretty cool games that can be played using your iPhone or iPad as a controller. Streaming video on Netflix, Youtube, etc. works flawlessly as well but I usually do this straight from my tv. No complaints here aside from no 4K

The 4th generation AppleTV is killer! Highly recommend for those who are looking for a great way to watch internet streaming content, maybe even cut the cord from your cable provider. The AppleTV's greatest benefit right now is Siri, (voice search). Currently only available for Movies and TV search but will expend to other areas with future updates. The unit also has the ability to play games, mostly on the arcade level, but really fun nonetheless. You can also add supported controllers to the unit. My favorite controller is the Nimbus Steel Series controller. Really solid in design. I love the new remote, which uses a touchpad interface to navigate between content and menus. Takes a minute to get used to it, but once you do, it becomes extremely fast to get around the AppleTV. The cons is that it does not support Amazon Instant or Google Play for movies yet, but I imagine that is up to them to develop those content channels. For those on iOS you can AirPlay Amazon Instant to the AppleTV, so you can at least get around that limit. AirPlay is flawless. Super fast on the stream. I've used the Chromecast, Nexus Player, FireTV Stick, Roku 3 and this is by far my favorite solution to date.

I've had the AppleTv2nd and 3rd generations for what has seemed like an eternity. The new 4th gen is really awesome. The remote is fluid but not overly sensitive. The UI is slick and minimalist and the AppleTV itself is so much faster than the 3rd generation. I love that hulu, netflix etc are all apps which you can choose to install or not - it makes the cluttered screen of the 3rd gen a thing of the past. Can't recommend this device enough.

We have two of the last generation models. We have been happy with them, but decided to give this one a go. SO glad that we did! The new remote is very slick and having volume control of my tv is a great new feature. Siri is a really great addition, as well. Really speeds up the search function, and shows you multiple ways to watch a show/movie. New operating system is very slick. MUCH faster than the old OS. Netflix app is very good. No buffering, crystal clear picture. Also a nice feature that it does not come loaded with a ton of apps. Lets you download what you want from the App Store. Games work well, and if you own the title on your phone, most of them do not cost extra to download on your Apple TV. Great job, Apple!

I got this Apple TV for easy of use for DirectTV Now. I was very surprised at how much better the 4th generation Apple TV is than the 3rd. It's fast and fluid. The Siri remote makes putting in information much faster than typing it in. The ability to add apps is also huge. Two drawbacks and reasons for 4-star rating: 1.) The touchpad remote is a little frustrating to use. I would have liked a 4-way pad too. 2.) No 4K support. For $150 you only get a 1080p player! This is unacceptable as 4K TVs are now soooooo cheap that buying this just doesn't make sense. If you have a 4K TV buy a $69 Chromecast Ultra in the meantime and wait for the AppleTV to get upgraded to 4K

I like the interface and speed improvements over the previous AppleTV (we have it as well). The new remote is nice as are the Siri voice commands. It doesn't support 4K and the Remote app yet so that's disappointing. Also, the Siri responses seem to be a bit spotty at times. Not sure it's worth the price increase.

We have the original Apple TV, which we like and used often. After deciding to add another Apple TV to our upstairs TV I was skeptical about purchasing the new Apple TV for the additional cost vs. just getting another of the old version for just $69. However, I decided to bite the bullet and try the new version. It is awesome! Besides the ability to add apps and games where you couldn't with the original and the ability to use a track pad vs arrows, the Siri add is HUGE! You want to see movies with just Tom Hanks - tell her, you want to see the last 30 seconds of the movie again - tell her, you couldn't understand what was just said - tell her and how long you want to replay and you'll get a close caption with the dialogue. There are many other new options you can explore also. It would have been a big mistake to have cheaped out and got the old version. Love it!

The software between the previous gen Apple TV and this model remains fairly similar when it comes to videos and music; however, this new generation supports third party apps, most of which are games. The games available are pretty cool; but lots of the apps are still really basic. I'm sure apps will get better with time though. The coolest improvement is actually the remote - the layout is much better, charges with the same charger your iPhone or iPad uses, has a new touch interface, and features Siri. Siri is a really nice enhancement. The touch interface on the remote is also amazing; but, it does take some getting used to. For those who subscribe to Apple Music, use iTunes a lot, or have an iOS device, this is a must have - all your playlists are on it, it works just as well as iTunes does on your other devices, and it makes streaming from the iOS device to the TV super easy. For those more interested in the apps or games - I'm sure the Apple TV will improve overtime; but for now, the Nvidia Shield TV does a much better job with games. Lastly, it's not cool that Apple dropped the optical audio output; but my receiver is due for an upgrade anyways. They sort of made up for that by not making the base model a 16GB like they do with their phones and tablets - the Apple TV comes with 32GB for storage.

Best Apple TV yet, but a couple minor flaws

Overall, the new Apple TV is incredible. It is extremely easy to set up with another iOS device - just pair via Bluetooth with an iPhone, hold the iPhone near the Apple TV, and within seconds, it's connected to your wi-fi network and configured. The new interface and aerial screen saver looks great, and the App Store is a major plus, with a decent selection of games already. Also, the new remote with touchpad and Siri button is pretty great and works surprisingly well with the games I've tried (Rayman Adventures, Crossy Road, Jetpack Joyride, etc.). There are a couple of minor flaws: shuffle buttons don't always appear for playlists in Apple Music, and password entry is a pain on the new remote as the letters are arranged horizontally (tip: use an old Apple TV remote with the new Apple TV to restore the old letter grid!).

My old Apple TV was looking a little long in the tooth, so I figured that this new model would be a major overhaul and change the way I watch and interact with TV content. It doesn't quite live up to my hopes, at least not yet. Below are my thoughts on the biggest changes in this new model: the Siri Remote and App Store. Siri Remote I was expecting the remote to be quite simple and intuitive, but there is a definite learning curve. Prepare to give your thumbs a workout. I often find myself swiping too far and overshooting the item I wanted to select. Also, it's not immediately obvious that you can simply tap on the trackpad (rather than click) and use the edges as directional pointers, just like the previous Apple TV remote. My biggest gripe with the remote has to be the way that Apple has laid out the on-screen keyboard (a completely horizontal line in alphabet order). After logging into and authenticating all of your apps, your thumb is going to hate you. On the plus side, Siri works very well and understands my voice with almost complete accuracy. However, there just isn't much that Siri can do on the Apple TV right now besides search iTunes and Netflix. I'm sure more features will be added over time. App Store There just aren't enough apps available yet (besides the plethora of cheap games that will surely keep your kids occupied for at least a few hours). It's obvious that Apple wanted to release this new model in time for the holiday season, but it did so without giving developers enough time to make meaningful apps. The potential is huge and developers now have a great canvas to build amazing experiences, but it's going to take at least another 6-12 months for consumers to see any real benefit. Other Thoughts As it stands, I don't think this is the product that is going to change TV forever, as some may have hoped. It's a nice upgrade from the previous Apple TV, but right now, it just feels half-baked. Most streaming apps still require a paid cable/satellite TV subscription, and you have to log in and authenticate every single one of those apps. If Apple can figure out a way to let users log in with their cable subscription just once -- and have that apply to all necessary apps -- that would be a major advancement in user experience. In the meantime, I'm hoping that apps like TiVo, Amazon, Infuse, Vudu, and others make their way to Apple TV. But as it stands now, the new Apple TV is more like a faster, prettier version of its predecessor. If you're a first-time Apple TV buyer, buy it without hesitation. If you have an older Apple TV, I'd hold off for at least another few months. Apple has laid the groundwork for its vision of TV, and its now up to developers and content providers to get on board.

If you have a previous version with 720p this is a great upgrade for you. The addition of an OS and storage space? Wow. The interface is great and the speed is much more user adaptable (you can adjust how fast the remote moves the cursor). The addition of game apps is pretty sweet. The remote is beautiful and the touch pad is the real deal! Love love it! The only downside here is the menu is still exactly the same aside from 3 dimensional style app movements. I love that you can just hold the sleep button down now and it's a universal shut off with tv as well. This was a major upgrade and I no longer use my ps4 for Netflix for good reason! Kudos Apple!
