Cool Little System

I really like this system a lot and was actually very surprised at how easy it was to get everything going. I already have an ADT system with door sensors and a motion detector. I've had some false trips on the motion detector in the past few weeks and this gives me a really easy way to check my house and see what is going on. Besides a few minor gripes that can be remedied by purchasing additional accessories I don't have a lot of bad things to say about this.
In the box you get:
- 2 Cameras w/ Rechargeable Batteries
- Base Station
- Magnetic Mounting Bases for each Camera (w/ screws)
- Power and Ethernet Cables
You start by plugging in the base station to an Ethernet port on your router. The base station is not wireless, so you'll need to make sure your router has a free Ethernet port and that you are able to place the base station close enough. Once the base station is connected and powered on you start the setup process either through the app or in a web browser. The process has you register for a Netgear account and then sync all of the cameras you have. The sync process is a really easy and takes less than a minute per camera. Once you've got all that done you can begin placing your cameras wherever you are going to put them.
For my setup I have one camera mounted on my front porch looking at my door and another camera mounted on the side of my house looking out on my back patio. The cameras a weather proof and can be used indoors and out. The included magnetic bases make it really easy to mount and position the camera, but the flip side of that is that it's actually really easy to just remove the camera and walk off with it. I wish they had included more secure mounts for outdoors (they are available separately). If you are mounting the cameras outside I'd recommend either getting better mounts or placing your cameras someplace that is inconspicuous and out of reach. There is also a black silicone shroud available for the cameras if the white sticks out too much for you. Again - kind of wish that had been included or the cameras were a darker color in the first place, but at least it's an option. The cameras are a least relatively compact and I found the one on my front porch was easy enough to conceal from plain view.
As far as the image quality goes, it looks pretty good in both day and night situations. The cameras do have night vision built in, so it will switch to that when it starts to get dark. There are also motion sensors and microphones built-in. The motion sensor is the primary detection method by default, but you can also turn detection based on audio as well. One other neat thing is the cameras will actually let you talk through them if you have the app on your phone.
Both cameras sync with the Arlo base station, which will record when triggered and store those recordings in the cloud. You get 7 days of recordings from up to 5 cameras for free. The base station also has a couple of USB ports that you can use to record to local storage. I was a little concerned about the cloud recording on the base station since if the internet were to go out you would no longer have recordings being sent, but having the option of adding local storage is nice peace of mind. The local storage would work in concert with the cloud recording, so you don't have to choose one over the other. The base station also has a 100 decibel alarm built in that can be activated when motion or audio is detected by the cameras. It's turned off by default and I haven't tried using it yet, but I'm assuming it would be plenty loud enough to wake up the whole house or scare someone off.
All of this is controlled through the Arlo app or Arlo online portal. Since the cameras are connected to the internet you can access them from anywhere. You can set rules for the different modes, view live feeds of each camera, see recordings, and change settings. You can arm and disarm the system manually through the app, setup schedules, or arm and disarm based on your location (geofencing). The geofencing option was listed as a beta feature, but it is what I have been using on my iPhone and I haven't had any problems with it. The app is really fast and easy to use is able to connect the system from anywhere very quickly.
After going through everything the only thing I wish that Netgear had included was better hardware to secure and hide the cameras outside, but besides that this is something I plan to keep and continue using. The app makes it really easy to control everything and the free cloud storage is a big plus for me.

For ease of installation, ease of use, and functionality, this has to be rate with 5 stars. From unboxing until viewing your videos, the entire process is a breeze. Having a completely wire-free system is ideal for making it easy, and quick to install and configure. The range of the base station is very good. The speed at which the system works (view live video, view recorded clips, etc) is also above what I would consider acceptable. The one feature I do with it had was zoned motion, its possible it could be added into the software in the future. The battery life is very good.

Install was very easy amd virtually plug and play. Image quality is great and the audio recording is really good. It picks up the crickets chirping. False alarms are minimal but (i like watching the hummingbirds play in the camera) either way. Haha. There is about an 8 second delay for the live feed which is pretty good. Works well at night too although our street light puts off quite a bit of light already. Battery life is good. We have had ours up for over a month and it’s still at 80%. the phone App is handy and easy to use. Overall we love it and it was a good investment

The Arlo Pro System is a bit pricey, but it is very easy to install, set up, and use. The camera’s provide a clear picture in normal daylight and also at night. I bought the four camera system and I plan to add fifth camera soon. You can go with up to 5 camera’s without paying a monthly fee which is why I liked the Arlo system to begin with. I also liked the system because it is totally wireless.
I would definitely recommend this system.

These cameras work perfectly in any light . They are very clear and the color is precise as well. They are easily mounted and they use rechargeable batteries which saves a ton of money buying batteries because you simply plug them in with the cord and they recharge. They have a long life and notify you or being low with ample time for you to barge them. When there is motion it notifies you instantly so you can pull up the app and see who or what is in the cameras view. You can have a two way conversation with the person and the sound is very clearly heard on both ends. You can set it up to notify for every movement or limited areas in the view or o notifications. You can also watch live. It records for ten seconds anytime movement is detected and you can go back and review those recordings. The recording are unlimited and you don't have to pay extra to save them as you do in some similar security cameras. This works better than ring because you get notified when a person is wallkinh towards your door rather than having to wait for the person to ring a bell, not to mention more and more people are learning of ring and therefore likely won't ring your bell. These cameras have night vision and it shows everything very well in the evening. Set up and mounting is a breeze. The indoor camera has a magnet so you can simply remove the camera and put it back very easily with no tools or hard work.

Relatively easy to set up...Different 'Modes' easy after the learning curve. Motion detection reliable... notifications to email & phone easy to access. Picture quality could be better, but is still good enough to identify intruders if necessary. Night vision is only fair, but still good enough... I'm going to add motion activated lights to the outdoor areas covered by cameras to help night-time picture quality.

Well setup was very simple. Download the app, create an account, follow the onscreen instructions and Bam you got Security ! Battery life is good, but my garage camera needs charging every 3 mos. ; so if you high a high traffic area, you can expect the batteries to drain quicker. Charging the batteries is also very fast, also you can take this time to wipe down and clean your Arlo and remove any dust from the camera lens - this will keep your footage looking its best. You can also purchase a AC cord so that you do not have to charge the batteries if you have an outlet nearby. The app is Rock solid on the mobile device, the app is also available on Tablets, Amazon TV, Apple TV, Roku, etc. It makes for reviewing footage very easy. This is the easiest Wireless camera you can buy. The only complaint i have is that Arlo does not seem to keep the recording going until the action stops (stops recording after 5 mins). A longer recording can be very important for crime evidence. I imagine they do this because cloud storage is free and to conserve battery life; but it could put a dark cloud over the use of the security footage. Although it does have this limitation, it is still worth the money and provides a good level of security for my home.

Overall this system does what it's designed to do. It will only record on triggered motion and/or audio. Both types of trigger have sensitivity adjustments for each camera. The camera does not record continuously. Sometime the recording starts too slow to capture the motion. This is especially true for fast moving subjects. The recording will miss (or catch the tail end) the fast moving subject. Also, the sensor works better if the subject moves across the field of view rather than toward the camera.
I do like the flexibility of a wireless system that allows me to place cameras in trees, backyard fence, etc. The wireless range is decent. The camera connects to the system's base station. It's a 2.4 gHz system. For whatever reason, the base station likes to jump on the same channel as my wireless router. I was concerned with it interfering with my other IoT devices running at 2.4 gHz. So far it doesn't seem to be a problem.
Night vision works well for me. Some users have reported that night vision light will trigger motion detection thus will get into a continuous loop of recordings. I have not run into this issue with me setup.
You can view live streams only up to 30 minutes at a time. When viewing live stream with a camera, it will not trigger and save any recordings. This is not ideal as sometimes you want to see what's going on when you got a trigger notification. You will not have a history of the triggered recoding in this case. You get 7 days of free cloud recording for up to 5 cameras and 1GB of storage (a 30 second highest quality recoding is about 3.5 MB).
You can also attach an USB device to the base station for storing recording. However you will not be able to view those recording on the mobile app or Arlo web site. You'll need to access the USB drive to view them.
The camera does have 2 way audio. The speaker volume coming out of the camera is not very loud. The camera's microphone does capture sound pretty well though.
Battery life seems reasonable for a wireless system. Obviously, it will depend on the resolution setting and how often the camera records. In 30 to 50 degree F, I think I can get 3 to 4 months with highest quality recoding and about 10 to 20 (10 second) recordings a day. I have tested the cameras at 15 degrees F and it works fine.
To charge the battery, you will need to plug the usb cable to the camera (meaning you'll need to remove the camera from the mount). I will definitely get a spare battery and a charger in the future...for the price Netgear should have included a separate charger.
The package comes with one outdoor mount and 4 magnetic mounts. I purchased additional outdoor mounts for all my cameras. I don't think the magnetic mounts work well for outdoor application.
This is a good system as long as you are aware of its limitations. If you are looking for something that records 24/7 continuously, this is not the system for you. Look for a wired system instead.

While sleeping, while away or while at work, you can monitor areas in and/or around your home or office and receive videos when motion is detected from any of the 4 cameras on your Phone, laptop or IPad, You can receive HD videos within seconds of activity in your email and notifications. Want to see who took that package outside of your front door? This works great.
Want to shout out to the person ringing your doorbell or taking your package or disturbing something around your house. This is for you.
Wish you could hear the person you are shouting out to? Here is your answer to being able to do just that.
Want to set off a very loud alarm from your phone on the system while hundreds of miles away so the neighbors will even be aware something is amiss?. This works for your benefit.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how quick and easy it is to set up where ever you want to place the cameras with easy to understand instructions but there is even better information. It is all wireless!
If you want more security for a great price that you can control and turn on and off any one or more of the camers at will from your phone while hundreds of miles away or just down the road at your local coffee shop. This is the answer.
One of my best investments for peace of mind.

I was in the market for a surveillance system for awhile. So I finally decided to head to my local Best Buy for one. I didn't know wether to buy wired or wireless. The installation wasn't my worries, just the fact that I was going to have to tuck miles of wire around my house. So I bought this system, the ease of set up was ridiculous. Within 25 minutes it was all up and running. The video quality is very good. And the ease of access from my phone is just perfect. I highly recommend this system.

The first thing I noticed when opening the package was how compact the system was. The cameras are attractive and a nice size and the base you hook up to your network is definitely space efficient. In addition to this, the camera mounts are simple and smart. The mounts have a strong spherical magnet the camera securely attaches to which allows it to be pivoted pretty freely and combined makes for a really nice compact design. The 130* viewing angle makes up for most blind spots after that leaving very little unseen. Mounting was as easy as putting a screw in and hanging it. Just make sure to put it out of reach where people can't just walk up to it and steal it. Installing the one camera I put in my backyard and setting up the devices on my computer was a very quick and easy experience. Whether you use the app on your phone or use a computer to access the settings, the interface is simple and efficient. One of my favorite features is it shows you the current battery life and signal strength so you're always aware of when it's time to recharge the battery or of connection issues. One really standout feature though is the 7 days of free cloud storage backup. Even better is you can hook up your own storage device via USB to the base. You can purchase plans beyond this but it's really not necessary which really makes this a complete system on purchase. It only records using motion or audio detection (or you can hit the button manually during live feed) but it's all I need for my home however I'm sure if you're looking for something for your business you'd want something that records all the time. The default record length is 10 seconds but you can customize your own mode with separate rules for each device connected, including the length of recordings (up to 2 minutes). With everything the camera offers, I'm confident in the protection I now gained.
A great alternate use for these cameras is using them as baby monitors. The idea comes from a relative who found using these types of cameras were a lot more efficient over traditional baby specific monitors. Great picture and sound quality, wire free convenience and the use of the app makes the Arlo Pro a perfect choice if you have a spare. Need to help the babysitter remotely with something specific in the child's room (diapers, medicine, finding important items, etc...)? You can use the two-way talk and offer quick, efficient help when needed. I plan on using my 2nd camera for this when we have kids of our own since both my wife and I can view the feed at any time with our phones instead of constantly carrying around the usual monitor device. In the meantime we're going to use it for around the house to keep an eye on our cats or if we go away and one of our relatives are taking care of something for us and needs help with anything.
The one downside is it's a bit pricey. While Best Buy discourages talk about prices, I'm commenting on this matter because Netgear encouraged it and outlined price-value as one of a few informative discussion points. Compared to systems I have seen elsewhere, you can get various systems with numerous cameras depending on the brand and type for similar prices. The value/savings considering the price of the Arlo Pro cameras themselves and the base is pretty good with the 4 PK however it's pretty marginal with the 2 PK. Based on a single camera retailing at $190 and the price of a 1 PK w/base ($250), you could value the base itself at $60. This seems to create a savings of $170 for the 4 PK but only $20 for this 2 PK ($420). I feel a bit of a fairer price for the 2 PK would top off at $385. But still, I wouldn't detract a star for this as prices can change (sales or otherwise) making it irrelevant to rating since the performance is good. Deduct half a star if you feel differently.
One Issue I do seem to have though is the two-way audio is inconsistent. The volume and hearing is fine, but sometimes when you try to speak through it the audio out of the camera cuts off or doesn't transmit parts of your speech at all. Netgear has stated certain audio issues were fixed in a recent firmware update however it seems as if it might be a mobile device issue now according to what I was reading on the forums. As of now I have enough faith to not deduct a rating just yet, if anything maybe half a star but I'll give them some time and update this later if the issue persists. At the very least, this is still a 4 star product even if you deduct for these two things at this point.

These cameras are amazing. They are wireless and hold their charge. We bought them about a month ago and still have not needed to recharge them. I have them all around my house and I can see and hear everything that is going on very clearly. I have even talked to people at my door. I had been talking about getting a security camera for awhile and finally bought this system only after I had some Halloween decorations stolen while I was in the house.
I read dozens of reviews online about both this and the nest system. What was most important to me was ease of installation because I didn't want to have to wire it into the electrical system.
Price: Expensive, but saved money by buying four pack. If I had decided to buy cameras as I went along, a single additional camera would cost about $190 per.
Ease of use: base linked into our internet very easy and app allows me to view recorded video or live wherever I am. Decided against using the magnetic mounts that come with it to mount outside my house. A camera that came be stolen or moved with minimal effort is a really bad idea. The four camera pack came with one mount that screws into camera, making it more secure. I ended up buying another three pack of these on Amazon.
Battery life: I live in the North East and was concerned with the cold weather killing the batteries in the cameras quick. So far I've had these Arlo pro cameras for almost two months and batteries are down to roughly 50%. I bought the skins for the cameras also to provide a little insulation.
Overall: it is exactly what I needed for my house. Easy to put up and set up. Since it only records when it detects movement, batteries last a long time. Only issue I had was didn't detect movement as far away as I'd like. At 100% it still would only detect human movement at about 15-20 feet away. I have picked up a few racoons and foxes also.
Love this system!

Decent picture quality and great battery life. We own both the Arlo Pro and Ring Doorbell and prefer Arlo. We've noticed way fewer connection problems/delays with Arlo and it turns on and records faster as well. Just wish it came standard with a secure form of installing it to your house. It's an extra add on you'll have to order.

Ok, this little system is so awesome. I have been wanting an easy home monitoring system for awhile. ARLO does the job fantastically. The features are great. I can access this thru an app on my phone or thru email and I can share access with others. Set up was easy and trouble free. Everything you need to get set up is already included. I get alerts on my phone when motion is detected and it switches to night vision by itself and the picture quality is actually good. The cameras sit by magnet so when they need charged I can just take it off and charge it quickly. I'm impressed with the ease of set up and the quality of the product. I'm glad I have this.

These are easy to install and setup with a fairy intuitive app for phones and tablets. The video is high quality both day and night and the free 7 day cloud storage is sufficient. The bad is that if you have a large house you may have issues with the cameras connecting to the base. The signal on the base was not strong enough to reach one side of my house and when moving the base around I always lost the signal on at least one camera. My second complaint is the delay before the camera starts recording. The delay was long enough that if a person was quick enough, they could get to the door and already be walking away before it started recording so you would not get a look at their face if they were quick. I solved that issue with using the fourth camera in the area leading to the front door. Supposedly the Pro 2 cameras are quicker so I will probably break down and buy two more cameras and utilize two bases to solve the delay and coverage problems. I would recommend these despite the issues I have had because they are a great value.

I have researched for the past few months and finally chose to buy the Arlo Pro system. Out of the box and about 15 minutes later, my cameras were hung and everything was working.
5 weeks later...
The system has exceeded my expectations! I have four cameras and they are unbelievable. The motion sensors work really well and the battery life on the cameras is still 90%. You can adjust your camera setting and motion sensitivity. I used the magnetic mounts as they are very secure. Wind blows a lot at home but it has not moved any of the cameras. The sound is clear and you can speak through any camera to anyone standing near. If you are looking for a GREAT wireless system LOOK NO FURTHER. With the 7 days free cloud storage and an offer to increase with a fee, you cant go wrong. I am looking to add another camera soon.
