Return to form
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After a terrible third and fourth season, Season 5 is a return to form for Arrow. Prometheus is a legitimately great villain and the tension is ramped up in each episode. The new recruits are also made to be a bit more likable. Plus, we finally get the return of Slade, which is always great.

Character growth and limits on a hero's power
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Arrow series has done a great job of following Oliver Queen's development over the course of the series, from killer of those who have wronged his community, to trying to move beyond this and curb the urge to kill (while looking for a balance when left with no choice), to legal alternatives such as going from superhero to politician (shades of Brian K. Vaughan's Ex Machina comic series) which, nevertheless, puts limits on his pursuit of justice. (The gun violence episode, with its tragic attack on City Hall, the heated dissenting views of Team Arrow on the legalities of gun control, and solutions which offer no slick, easy answers, was a thoughtful, sensitive illustration of the difficulties confronting Mayor Queen.) That said, this is a superhero series, so, rather than tie his hands with the burdens of elected power, Queen must juggle the new responsibilities of elected power with his old-fashioned, hands-on street fighting approach, recruiting new blood and new powers to replace those who have departed (either voluntarily or through death), while wrestling with questionable, unholy alliances from his past (the Bratva), associations made with the short term goal of serving the greater good, but ones which he is unable to sever ties with, possibly doing more harm than good. Nor is Oliver alone in these morally questionable "enemy-of-my-enemy" associations; witness Felicity's work with hacktivists, initially to clear John Diggle's name, hacktivists whose agendas may be or may not be motivated by illicit, ulterior motives. And for those desiring an old-fashioned, apolitical comic adventure, there is the Invasion crossover with The Flash, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl, forcing a team-up to oppose an alien threat previously thought to be ancient history, but now threatening all of Earth. Overall, Arrow (this season in particular) has something for everyone. Definitely worth binge-watching.

A True Return to Form
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I watched season 5 when it originally aired. Even though there were a few not as great episodes, overall, season 5 is a true return to form with Arrow. The season long story arc was great, the action scenes are so much better, and lets not forget the introduction of one of the greatest Arrow villains since Slade Wilson/Death stroke, in the form of Josh Segara's creepy, insane, and just downright sinister Adrian Chase/Prometheus. It's sad to see, but understandable as to why viewers left after seasons 3 and 4, but if anyone reading this is an old fan perhaps willing to give the show another chance, you wont be disappointed. Its a true return to what made Arrow great in seasons 1&2. For those wondering, yes there's still a little bit of the Olicity stuff but its very much toned down and never truly a focus in the season as it was in the past. But the culmination of the entire season in the final episode entitled: "Lian Yu" is perhaps one of the best, if not THE best episode of the entire series. This season (concurrently with The Flash: season 3 and Legends of Tomorrow: season 2) also contains a true crossover to behold. The 3 part Invasion story started incredibly with The Flash episode, brought the emotion with the Arrow episode (which also served as Arrow's 100th episode), and was brought to an awesome and delightfully over the top end in the Legends episode. I've been watching Arrow since the very first season and I've never stopped. I've never lost faith and I will continue to watch until the very end.

The Best Superhero on TV
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I first saw an episode of season 2 at a friends house a couple of years ago. I was actually in the living room by myself, my friend was taking a shower and this was on. I was immediately struck by the characters, and how good they were each identifiable. And, to be honest I had never even heard of Arrow. But again, I was impressed with the writing, the acting, the set production, etc.... But I was hooked on a CW show and I have never watched any of the networks shows before. My buddy had Netflix so when he returned from the shower, I asked him if he ever watched this show. He said no. I asked if he could check if it was on Netflix. He did. I got to watch the first 2 episodes of season 1. The next day I went out and purchased season 1 and 2. I finished the 2 seasons in 3 days. Ever since I have been a loyal Arrow fan, but I only purchase them when a season is released, so I can binge. I am still on season 4, and I can't wait to start season 5. I was also able to purchase the Blue Ray edition, because Best Buy had an incredible price of $14.99.

Great Season, no BB steelcase exclusive??
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Season 5 was a comic book geeks dream come true. New team comes together, new threat which shakes the team to its core, and of course, more romance and bro-mance drama. Wild Dog AND Vigilante make their debut this season and Prometheus. Characters are really fleshed out and developed deeper with great back stories. Episodes leading up to the season finale was incredible with Slade Wilson returning as Deathstroke and a very improbable faceoff on Lian Yu with a C-130 landing there and the whole island being laden with explosives. The biggest bummer? How Best Buy had exclusive Steel cases for Supergirl and The Flash this year but stopped making one for Arrow or any other type of cool packaging.
