bought this laptop 4 months ago, and it works superbly. I did install a 128gb ssd to boot up windows faster. This laptop is a beast..... I run a animation editing software called blender, with opera browser, virtual box running ubuntu all at the same time with no lag, no hiccups, no distortion, no nothing! Butter smooth. As far as gaming, I play overwatch on medium settings and thanks to the screen the colors are fantastic and once again the game works really good. Besides overwatch i do play left 4 dead, and battle field. but keep in mind to put the settings on medium or low because this is a lower end gpu. however im not disappointed at all. Now as far as cons go... I really dont like the aluminum case, it picks up the slightest smudge and finger prints. and i also dont like the webcam, it over beautifies the image, but its good enough for business skype calls. now more to the pros. i appreciate the color accuracy on the screen, low fan noise, and low heat on the bottom of the case and on the keyboard. The keyboard is responsive, but its not a macbook pro. ONE MORE THING, this laptop will come with a mini subwoofer which sounds pretty good, but beware after a couple of windows updates the speaker no longer produces any sound from the laptop, Ive tried installing and reinstalling sound drivers and tried to fix it, but so far it hasnt happened. IF anyone reading this knows how to get the external sub working again please respond to this.

    College Friendly

I bought this laptop before starting college with the intent of some light gaming and in class use. It has not disappointed me with that at all. For the gamers out there, I play gmod, Block N Load and other small games just fine as well as some higher quality games such as No Mans Sky. The nice parts about this laptop are never ever ever having to worry about space and storage, being able to have the touch screen (with strong hinges to not break over time), HDMI port, and of course the ability to turn it into a tablet (perfect for some dorm room Netflix watching!). The only thing that has ever bothered me about this, is about 3 weeks into owning this, it started taking awhile to go from off to usable. From the time I start the computer to the time it allows me to open up a browsing page takes anywhere from a minute and a half to three minutes. Other than that one thing, this laptop is incredible and if you are in my situation where you want to lightly game and write some college papers with never having to worry about specs, you are way more than golden with this laptop.

Really needed a laptop with 2tb hard drive so I was limited on my selection. I really like this computer it seems quick (I understand it would load faster with a ssd drive). The touch screen is a bonus that I really like. I researched Asus and it appears that they are close to the top as far as customer satisfaction and reliability. Overall very happy with my purchase. I bought it for 850 which seemed like a fair price.

Install PCIE / NVMe SSD makes this laptop fly.

Have owned this laptop for 3 years and have been satisfied with its performance as delivered. Though not documented by Asus, the motherboard does have an M.2 slot. This this last week I upgraded the hard drive to a 1TB M.2 PCIe/NVMe stick and can only say "Wow!" Regret that I waited so long. The laptop now boots into Win10 in under 30 seconds ready to go and that is with several large add-ins. You can do the upgrade yourself. There are clips on YouTube that will show you how to remove the lower case cover. You will need a Torx T5 screw driver to remove the cover and also a 2mm X 4mm screw to fasten the NVMe card in place. I purchased an SK Hynix Gold P1 1TB, cloning software can be downloaded through their site. Currently have removed the 2TB HD (Seagate) but will wipe that clean, reformat and re-install for bulk storage. Only thing may have done differently is perhaps installed 500GB (could be even smaller) to save a few $$ as major benefit is when booting up and loading apps. You really don't need 1TB for that. I'm not into gaming any more which would likely benefit from large(r) capacity PCIe/NVMe drives. With this upgrade, plan on using the Asus until it drops. Definitely extends the useful life of this laptop.

Reasons i brought this laptop. It has good specs, Brushed aluminium body. 2 gb graphics card. Easy to open bottom cover so you can easily upgrade Ram, SSD. It has additional slot for adding extra ssd (NVME M2) . After replacing original HDD with SSD the battery lasts longer. I will recommend it if price is right( Wait for the deal).

I bought an ASUS touch screen lap top with the core i7. let me just say, this is a very disapointing computer. its pretty and i like the touch screen. but those are my only positives. I bought this to be my business computer and use it for ordering and e mails and inventory. web browsing is super slow. when i try to order from a web site it wont put anything in my shopping cart. it freezes at least once a day. quicken makes it spaz also. cant even download transactions from the bank onto quicken without it freezing.

    So far. so amazing!

I returned an i3 laptop with 1T space for this one for 2 main reasons. the silver brushed metal was a pain because it was hard to read the keyboard since it was not black and white. Also, this one feels twice as fast with the i7 processor. The black does show fingerprints. but that's a small quibble compared to the speed and quality monitor. So far I am really enjoying this laptop. Easy to type on and I LOVE the added Sub woofer that you can plug in the side to get richer sounds. I can tell this would be a great laptop for movies with cool sound effects.

Good laptop but fan keeps running when shut down

When the laptop is running on battery and shutdown, the cooling fan runs at high speed and drains the battery. This does not happen when plugged in. The "fix" is to put the laptop in Sleep Mode instead of shutting down. A side benefit is that it boots up quicker.

Great CPU - Hard Drive is Awful! - Bloatware!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The system has great specs and for the sale price of $599 this is a good deal. The issue with the system is 1. The Hard Drive is TERRIBLE. The system is bottlenecked on both the network and the cpu because the drive is SLOW. You can not browse the web, read email or do basic things. When the System is IDLE the DRIVE is 50% to 80% capacity with all the junk running on the system. If you do manage to load a game the disk IO will be too slow to keep up with the demands of the awesome integrated video card. 2. The system is over loaded with ASUS applications and customizations. This makes the system difficult to use. They pop-up all the time trying to sell you ASUS services and applications.

Slow, non responsive, glitchy, unlistable problems and days of work, downloading, redownloading, non responsive internet connection (no problems connecting with my other computers, notebooks etc). Disaster in a black case. Black seems appropriate. Stay clear.

    Don't Buy ASUS

I have a new favorite brand of computer. it's called "Anything But ASUS". I bought an ASUS 2-in-1 and 8 months later the hinge was shot. I understand that sometimes a bad product gets shipped and sold. This is a review more about their customer service and warranty and less about the computer. I was asked to send pictures of the broken hinge and later advised to send it in. I got a quote for $300 for repairs. they said they don't cover hinges under warranty, but nevertheless asked me to send it in knowing that it was a warranty claim on the hinge. when I called them out on it, they claimed the computer was abused. it must be if it's broken, right? I told them to ship it back to me. I fixed it myself with some screws I had to replace and some some gorilla glue to fix the hinge. (note to self, write 5 star review for gorilla glue). The way they treated me as a customer is inexcusable, even at one point, calling my integrity into question. the worst customer service I've ever seen.

    Give it time....

I purchased this model in chocolate black (a sort of copper/brown color) back in August and let me tell you, first impressions are deceiving. At first I loved this computer, had great looks, great specs and ran fantastic. The graphics card supported my needs and still does, one of the only pros to this PC. The storage is more than enough, and is great if playing games, or if you are looking for something for a college student to last four years, or just to last a while in general. Lately though things have become lackluster. First off, the 2 in 1 feature is completely useless for a model this size, definitely not necessary. As a 2 in 1, the only viable function is when it is used as a standing screen, with the keyboard facing down. Even then, the touch screen often had some input issues and was more of a frustration than anything, so it was easier to use a mouse with it. With the 2 in 1 part basically out of use for me I want to talk about this as a laptop in general now. As I said before, graphics are great, I'm actually able to run very graphically needy titles fairly well, even though the graphics card isnt the greatest in the world. The storage is more than enough and the battery is decent as well, I have noticed a slight drop in length of use since purchase, probably due to the fact that while gaming the device needs to stay plugged in, otherwise its a constant fiddle with the plug every now and then to prevent the computer from going dark randomly. The issues I have had recently though have changed my opinion of this computer greatly. The first two issue lie within the trackpad. Very often, the trackpad will be almost unresponsive, or become significantly less responsive and uncontrollable. It will start highlighting random text on the page, clicking links, etc, when trying to do something as simple as drag the cursor across the page or try and scroll, it is a pain and at times has rendered the computer nearly useless until the "fit" stops. Also the right click in the trackpad will occasionally cease to work. On numerous occasions I have booted only to have the right click not function. I would reboot and even then sometimes the right click would not return. It's a good thing this trackpad supports gestures otherwise I'd be in big trouble. On top of this, the PC, which is kept clean, defragmented and and just generally cleaned up regularly, can no longer seem to handle programs like Chrome, or Firefox, and has instances of incredibly reduced speed when running multiple tabs, or even standard office programs, like Word and Outlook, still amazed it handles games so well. Along with all of this the device is a dirt and fingerprint magnet. The chocolate colored aluminum, with its brushed finish easily gets dirty, and is a pain to clean at times. It has a tendency to trap oil from the skin and no sooner is it clean it winds up being dirty again. Also the touch screen, being glass, has a tendency to build up with gunk fairly easily, especially in a moderately humid or slightly dusty environment. I havent used the touch screen in over a month and it is slowly collecting random gunk. Also the bezels on this screen are ENORMOUS. This laptop could have easily been fit into a smaller profile had some slight adjustments been made. All in all, this has shown me that the infamous Best Buy exclusive is something I may want to be more cautious of when purchasing a device in the future.
