Customers are impressed with the ROG Zephyrus 14" Gaming Laptop's performance, graphics capabilities, and long battery life. Many appreciate its compact size, portability, and lightweight design, making it ideal for those on the go. However, some users note that the device can get warm and produce noticeable fan noise during use. The lack of a webcam and some concerns about the keyboard backlight are also mentioned.

A lot of power, little space.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Recently purchased this laptop, and I have loved using it. The device is fast, caches the fingerprint for biometric login (it will log you in even if you weren’t the last user logged into the machine). Yet to test battery life, but I don’t expect to be far away from an outlet anyways due to the workload that will go on this device.

Best Laptop for the Price and Specs

Perfectly Balanced as all Things Should Be.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the first laptop that I've found to fulfill both the role of portable computer and desktop replacement well. The 3060 is enough for 1080p gaming and the Ryzen CPU can cut back on power draw quite a bit compared to other laptops I've used. The result of these two things makes the laptop a great machine for gaming at a desk when you really need a lot of power, and traveling when you need battery life. (I can regularly get ~10 on battery browsing the web) The trackpad is smooth and not that plastic material you find on some other laptops, so it works well and my finger doesn't jump. The display is good enough. It can switch between 144hz and 60hz automatically to save power on battery, which I find to be very nice. The design of the laptop in my opinion could be a little more understated, but I'm coming from a thinkpad so I'm used to matte black with minimal accents. At worst, it's inoffensive and it can actually look really cool at best. The mechanism that angles the laptop off the desk is helpful and even necessary for cooling the internals. I originally thought it was a gimmick but It feels like the engineers who designed this laptop put a great deal of thought into how one can elegantly and effectively cool this kind of hardware in this small a formfactor. It's important to know that you need to have the machine propped up one way or another if you're running any demanding games or apps. I tried gaming on an external display with the laptop flat on the table and it had to shut down to protect from overheating. Keyboard is on the upper end of ok. It's no thinkpad, but just like the design of the rest of the machine, it's inoffensive and even quite good at times. The "W" key has a raised bump on it so you can find it without looking while gaming. TL;DR - This is the laptop I've been looking for. it strikes a great balance between portability, power and battery life and I feel it's a great deal especially at the sale and open box prices you can find it for.

Amazing Performance and Build Quality
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is simply one of the best laptops I had used in the past few years. I wanted something light weight but had good battery life and a powerful enough CPU for multi tasking. I wasn't looking for a high end GPU as this was something that I would be mostly using for college classes and would only consider gaming during my breaks at college. The build quality is extremely sturdy and well done. The keyboard is a pleasure to type on as well as the trackpad. I however prefer a secondary mouse. Upon initially setting up the laptop the bloatware that came pre-installed is quite minimal, I would advise against removing the ASUS oriented software as that handles driver updates and GPU switching between the integrated and dedicated when you are plugged into the AC adapter and away from it. Aside that the system works perfectly no qualms. The Ryzen 9 CPU is very snappy and can easily do many of the tasks a modern high end gaming desktop is capable of as well. The RAM however is lacking if you are a serious multi tasker. 16GB is still enough if your intentions are simply to play games and do most of the regular day to day uses. However if you are planning on multi tasking such as running several VM's and programming applications alongside several chrome tabs you will soon find yourself at the mercy of needing more RAM. In that case I recommend upgrading the RAM. Keep in mind that one of the 8GB modules is soldered onto the laptop so you only have one other accessible DIMM to replace. The screen is good enough for my use but it is not the best. The colors in my opinion look a bit washed off but this can probably be fixed via calibration. The 144Hz however is a bliss to use, it makes the overall system feel much easier to use. Currently the 144Hz only kicks in when you are plugged into the wall via the AC adapter, I assume you are able to change this via the ASUS Armory Crate App. Gaming is something that I have not extensively tested on this system as of yet. I did try Forza Horizon 4 and it was able to maintain a locked 60 FPS at Ultra 1080p without any issues and that is good enough for me. I won't be gaming a lot on the laptop either way but if you are I recommend looking at the RTX 3070 or 3080 models as they offer significantly higher performance and would be able to hit higher frame rates in graphically intensive games.

Great Laptop, but not Perfect.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the laptop, but it's not perfect. What I like about the Asus GA401QM: - It's a very light and portable (14") gaming laptop, which I specifically wanted for travel. - Great performance. - Great on battery time. What I don't like: - The lack of memory expandability, due to having one of the two sticks of memory being soldering in. It's a problem when it comes to expanding your memory, as well as not being able to run matched sticks. I've upgraded my memory from 16 to 24 GB, replacing the one non-soldered stick of memory from 8 GB to 16. I've read of people upgrading to 40 GB, using a 32 GB stick. - The heat, which I don't think Asus can do much about, considering the size of the laptop, other than separating the cooling of the CPU from the GPU, when it comes to the heatsink, which is presently shared. Even then, it may not help much, once again due to the size of the laptop. The only other option is to detune it, running it at lower energy settings, compromising performance. - No RJ45 Port. Wi Fi only. Finally, and this has nothing to do w/the Asus GA401QM, but be careful when looking at the newest models of laptops coming out. Many are coming w/soldered in memory, which is called LPDDR4X, which has absolutely no expandability at all. If it has 8 GB, that's all you'll ever to be able to have on it, The same goes w/16 GB, and even 32. If you do purchase a model w/that kind of memory, get more than what you think you may need. If you need 8 GB, get one w/16, and w/16 GB, then get 32, especially if you game. I haven't seen this issue w/gaming laptops, at least not yet. They're still using DDR4 memory, but I'm sure it's on the way.

Great laptop Bad Battery
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was great at first but Battery gave out within a year had to leave it plugged in constantly or else it would power off. Recently the screen would turn black after powering on an soul Cut the laptop off. I’m guessing it’s because the battery is dead but besides the battery issues it worked great for everything. From gaming to cpu intensive work.

Ok
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s good for an open box item. Fast but make sure you adjust the settings. Without a cooling pad and on turbo mode. This item will hit 100C which start to burn paper or anything underneath it. If you’re a service member, I’d look somewhere else if it’s going for full price because they don’t offer any type of discount.

Million dollar specs.........but
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wanted to like this computer and was excited about it, but ive had so many issues that i dont know if they are caused by the hardware or Windows 11, but either way, it makes its a terrible experience. Not only does this run very hot and very noisy when pushed by anything more than basic web browsing (think photoshop or light gaming), not to mention that the computer crashes more than any machine ive ever had in my life. Im scared to do any serious work on it because i know it could crash at any time. That might be a little of an exaggeration, but honestly it does crash\reboot atleast once a week and not even when doing anything intensive. Maybe mine is a dud, or maybe its a win 11 unstable thing, or maybe its the ryzen chip (my first non-intel), but something is very off about it and i personally cant recommend this laptop

Excellent gaming laptop for portability
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall a very good laptop and probably the best one on the market if mobility is your top priority. The build quality of the laptop itself is very sturdy and looks very sleek and is extremely light leaving a very small footprint. The screen itself appears to be color accurate but did have minor blacklight bleed on the bottom left and right. One of the issues I have read on other reviews is image ghosting issues on the 144 hertz 1080p panel. On the two games I currently play Cyberpunk 2077 and Outriders and did not personally notice any ghosting issues. Keyboard has been very nice to type on and not noticing any flex. Two complaints I do have about the laptop is that there is a coil whining issue when the keyboard backlight is turned off. Apparently this a pretty commonly reported issue so something to keep an eye out for especially since during the daytime since the white blacklight clashes with the white keyboard keys. As I dont usually need to look at the keyboard while using I just always have the backlight on and it wasn't a problem for me but would definitely be a problem if you dont want the backlight on. The other issue I had is the system itself on the keyboard deck gets uncomfortably hot if you try to max out the laptop for gaming performance (turbo mode with cpu boost on). I had to disable turbo boost and just use the performance mode which kept games running in the 80*C range which made the keyboard deck comfortable enough to use for extended periods. This resulted in 3-10 fps loss for the games I played but was well worth the trade off for me. Since this is a lower wattage 3060 being able to game with the laptop maxed out in performance would have been nice.

G14 ROG
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very Light and portable laptop. Would recommend for the casual gamers or editing on the go but nothing too hardcore. For the price point it may seem a bit higher than others but you're paying for the portability with amazing specs. I highly recommend watching video reviews prior to purchasing because understanding what you buy under the hood is very beneficial and helps you understand more about how much this machine is and is not capable of. Sorta like how this gpu is a 60-80 watt gpu vs other laptops with 80+ Watts.

Decent laptop in a small form factor
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pretty thin laptop with reasonable performance, can get pretty loud and the display can't get super bright and the battery life isn't anything amazing but it's still okay. Very customizable in terms of the performance you want, you can make it super quiet and still get 60fps or make it really loud and hit that 144fps mark. Only real issue I've had is some freezes but those are very rare.

Amazing slim laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop so far has been amazing. I wasnt expecting it to be so slim and I thought it would be a little bigger, but its perfect. With some tweaks to the performance stuff, I was able to get this battery to last 10+ hours without any issues! For anyone that is looking for the animated led backed version... Its not on Bestbuy. It seemed like an amazing feature, but I realized that it wasnt included when it was already at my house...
