      Dear Reeeeee,

We do understand your concern about thermal issues.

It is normal for the fan to spin at full-throttle and generates more heat than normal while the laptop is under heavy load especially during, WINDOWS Update and antivirus scan. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full-throttle. It does decreases or normalizes once utilization goes down. Please ensure the air ventilations are free from obstructions in order to have an efficient air flow for better heat dissipation.

If you need further assistance, please let me know and I will be more than happy to help. Or, you are always welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent at: http://bit.ly/AsusLiveChat.

    This Laptop Screams!

This laptop screams performance and is a joy to use. For a gaming laptop, it’s still very thin and lightweight, and you can feel the aluminum construction right away, it feels very rigid and solidly built. I like the white color, a departure from the gray/black colors of most laptops these days. There is ventilation all over this thing, as you would expect. When you open the lid, it actually props the base of the computer up in the air at a slight angle to allow airflow to travel under the computer, to aid in the cooling. At max performance, it does run warm/hot, and the fans do kick on and make some very audible noise, but that is to be expected running an AMD Ryzen 9 and RTX 3060. The onboard speakers are amazing and can help drown out the fans, and if you are wearing headphones, the fan noise is a non issue. The keyboard is solid, very sturdy chiclet style keys are actually larger than you’d expect, and the travel is firm but not stiff, so typing feels great. The power button doubles as a fingerprint scanner, so you can set your security profile to biometric and easily be signed in as you power on. The display is wonderful to look at. Colors are very accurate and contrast is great. The 144Hz refresh rate is buttery smooth and looks amazing. The screen is only 1080p FHD, but at this screen size, you don’t need much more than that, I’ll take the refresh rate over pixels any day at this size range. I do wish the screen was a bit brighter at max nits, but overall it will do fine in most lighting conditions. Like I said earlier, the speakers are incredible and give you a nice warm and somewhat loud profile, and bass is even surprisingly good. They support Dolby Atmos so in the event you need to use this onboard sound instead of headphones, it has you covered. The one drawback to the overall design is the lack of a webcam. I know this is aimed at gaming, but adding a webcam would have made it a perfect one stop piece of hardware for gaming and non gaming use when you need a webcam, like virtual school or work meetings. It does have plenty of I/O for a laptop of this size, two full size USB-A ports and two USB-C ports. It also has a full size HDMI out port which is great, and a headphone/mic jack as well. Having an onboard ethernet jack would have been nice, but it should have enough flexibility to connect everything you need. Where this machine really shines is the guts that power this thing to be a gaming monster in a small package: AMD Ryzen 9 CPU with 8 cores and 16 threads, with 4MB of L2 cache. It base clocks at 3Ghz and can boost to 4.6Ghz. NVIDIA RTX 3060 GPU with 6GB of GDDR6 dedicated RAM. 1TB PCI-e SSD, means everything loads so much faster than a traditional HDD. 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 for blazing fast internet connection speeds if you have Wi-Fi 6 capable router in your home. I tested this machine in two basic configurations – as a fully functioning laptop, using the keyboard and monitor, and more importantly for me, as a stand alone PC, driving an external monitor and external keyboard and mouse and headphone. It shines doing both. Using a 27” external monitor set to 165Hz at FHD, this laptop had no problem. The games we played looked better than ever (Fortnite, Valorant, COD and Rocket League.) We were consistently seeing frame rates well into the 200+ where applicable, and on Fortnite’s new performance mode, we pushed past 300+. I will say that was with the laptop lid closed and plugged in to the power supply. When we did open the lid to use a two monitor setup, I found I did have to drop the frame rate of the laptop monitor to 60Hz to keep full fluid and smooth gameplay on the external one. If I ran both monitors at their top frame rates, I tended to see some slight lag/hiccup. Having the ability to drop the onboard monitor to 60Hz and run a second window for things like Discord or IM or Email, non graphic intensive apps, while keeping the external monitor driven at top performance is such a great capability to have. It does run hot though, when set to maximum performance mode. I suggest using an elevated laptop stand, to allow plenty of fresh air to flow underneath the laptop. Setup was super easy and fast, using Windows 10 and the SSD. Load times were minimal and even the expected software and firmware updates that it needed to make were super quick and painless with an SSD and Wi-Fi 6, since I do utilize Wi-Fi 6 in my home with a 1Gbps up/down fiber connection using a Netgear Orbi AX6000 mesh system. Asus also preloads software directly aimed at keeping your machine up to date with the latest and greatest software and firmware updates, and NVIDIA software to allow you to customize your RTX performance and updates as needed. Getting this laptop up and running was the most painless I’ve done in a while, and keeping it updated over its life is going to painless as well, thanks to the onboard tools Asus provides.

Great if you're wanting to switch from Mac to PC

My macbook pro bricked a while back, and I decided to switch to a PC since I don't like how the new macbooks don't have any USB or HDMI ports. I scoured for a long time before settling on this laptop, and I'm loving it so far! It runs games, photo editing and video editing software like champ. The screen is really clear and high-quality, which was a huge consideration for me since I do a lot of digital art and needed something comparable to the Mac retina display. My only complaint is that the trackpad can be a little finicky. It's functionally similar to a Mac touchpad (as in you can just use "touch" controls or clicks) but doesn't work as smoothly. I'm happy to say, however, that a cheap logitec usb mouse works just fine, and it's a problem with the trackpad, not the mouse software. The fan also runs a little loud, but that doesn't bother me. I'm giving it 5 stars because it does exactly what I need it to do and everything else is just nit-picking.

    AMAZING performance, looks dated

Needless to say, I was VERY excited to get this computer. the packaging was fairly good (I do unboxing videos, so I get a little geeky with the packaging). I was a little disappointed with the looks of the laptop after I opened it though....looks dated, kinda like its from the year 2000. Setup was easy, just normal windows computer setup. Register for an account or two if you don't already have them, and its up and running. You don't care about that, though, this is a gaming computer, right? Here we go. I used the new MS Flight Simulator 2020 to test the graphics power of this bad boy, and it impresses! It comes with multiple pieces of software in order to control the different aspects of the "power" behind the computer. There are many things you can change, you can overclock the GPU/CPU, or have it in different managed modes from "silent" through "turbo". Turbo has insane processing power for a computer of this size and portability. Though the fans are definitely turbo, you could probably cook an egg on this thing after a few minutes of flight simulator. The performance and graphics though? *chefs kiss*. On turbo mode, with flight simulator on "ultra" settings, it doesn't even flinch. I have it locked at 60FPS and it does it with ease. The screen is crisp, and there is no lag at all. The Screen is very crisp and clear, and there is an HDMI port so you can output to a big screen as a primary, or secondary monitor. There is not much out there right now that is more graphics intensive than Flight simulator on ultra mode, and this machine handles it with grace. The reason I'm giving this 4 stars is because of the look. It just looks so old, cheap and dated. I've had 4 other people look at it and they all agree, it just looks cheap. Overall: performance is amazing, it can handle basically any game you throw at it. just make it look a little prettier.

I bought this out of convenience. And it has been one of the most convenient purchases I’ve made till this day. It’s durable, and I’ve dropped it quite a few times. It’s able to run most games at high and max settings. Overall, good purchase and I recommend it.

The ASUS - ROG Zephyrus 14" Gaming Laptop is outstanding! Play your favorite HD games with a fluid and immersive experience using a bight and vibrant 144hz screen. I really cannot believe how beautiful the display looks. Performance: This laptop is built to perform! the 1terabyte SSD storage is super fast. Install games (& applications) quickly, and you notice that the games run very smooth and stable as they do not have to wait for high disk read/write latency. The AMD CPU handles tasks exceptionally. I have not experienced nor noticed within the system monitoring console any issues with processes consuming excessive amounts of CPU resources and never had a locked process. The keyboard is very responsive, there are plenty of auxiliary ports for external peripherals. One nice to have would be more available RAM, still the 16GB is plenty for gaming and other normal functions. Design: The design of the ASUS - ROG Zephyrus 14" Gaming Laptop is outstanding. The system runs pretty quiet overall. The chassis is light, and the perfect size to include in a travel bag. The structure is solid, the keyboard's keys are firm and the trackpad is awesome. I love the shortcut buttons and the ability to manage volume, brightness, and navigate the system directly from the keyboard. Display: The ASUS - ROG Zephyrus 14" Gaming Laptop's display looks amazing. I am blown away with the vibrance and the clarity of the screen and how smooth the motion is thanks to the 144hz refresh rate. The games play very fluid with no lag in the display. The display really enhances the experience while using the system as you feel that the game (or other content) become an extension of you beyond the keyboard/controller. Graphics Card: The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card delivers an exceptional visual experience. HD and 3D rendering are smooth and refined. It’s really great for your gaming experience. This gaming laptop is really next level. The ASUS - ROG Zephyrus 14" Gaming Laptop will give you an exceptional gaming experience. The system is enhanced down to the smallest detail and you will most certainly appreciate it when you use it.

Very powerful laptop for the money. Ran all my university engineering software with no problem. I’ve had problems with it randomly shutting off or restarting for nearly 3 years now (purchased about 3.5 years ago). Took it to GeekSquad and they sent it back to the manufacturer to be checked over and the problem continued. I have a few friends with the same laptop who have never had any problems with it so it seems I may have just gotten a lemon.
