Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the Beoplay Portal's sound quality and comfort, frequently citing its lightweight design. However, negative feedback centers on the high price point, inconsistent battery life, and occasional connectivity issues. Some users also noted that the volume could be improved and that the bass response might not satisfy all listeners. The active noise cancellation feature received mixed reviews, with some finding it effective while others felt it could be better.

So this headset is a mixture of wonderful and some odd choices. First off let's talk about sound. It is very clean and very consistent. Positionally they work great and the sound is crystal clear. I have seen people say they don't sound as good as A50's which is nonsense. They sound very good but they are not as punchy and bass heavy on their sound. That is unusual for a gaming headset but not a bad thing. I personally get tired of only hearing the boom and bass of some sets. But sound is a subjective thing so there is no wrong answer. I feel they get plenty loud just not booming the bass. I personally feel they sound great. The app initially didn't work with my phone and needed to be reinstalled. The software with your phone is fantastic. There are plenty of presets and the wheel EQ is great for mixing sound on the fly. Being able to adjust the ANC to allow you to hear some or none of the sound around you is also very nice. I paired it for bluetooth with my TV and the sound watching movies was really good. I love the convenience of watching movies and pressing a button and using it in Xbox mode. A couple of things that are annoying here. 1. You can't have Xbox sound and bluetooth at the same time. It is pretty easy to switch back and forth but only one sound source plays at a time. Also my volume levels reset every time I turn the headset on. It is easy enough to go into the app and fix but I probably shouldn't have to do that. These are probably geared more towards someone that wants a really nice sounding extremely comfortable and well built headset for multiple forms of entertainment and not solely for gaming. I struggle with the is it worth $500 as it is easily one of the best and most versatile headsets I own. I didnt give it five stars because of the price but I am overall pretty happy with my purchase.

Great product but there’s a catch! Now having a manufacturer like B&O create headphones for everyday listening for music, movies while having the capability to be a “gaming headset” is a total win. One headset to do “almost everything” there a reason why I said almost! To me the fact they do not look like a gaming headset is something I love. Now I’m not an audiophile by any means but I also have the Sony XM4’s and they was my favorite until I purchased these. Sound: They are really good. They have a nice clean sound to them that’s not bass heavy especially in gaming headsets. While listening to music they are up there with the XM4 and possibly the Airpod Max you tune the sound to your liking with the B&O app on IOS (idk if it supports android) but out the gate they sound excellent. Gaming with these…there was some issues as the sound was too low for my liking but it was detailed. There’s a way around this, with the purchase you will have a license to Dolby Atmos. DO NOT ADJUST ATMOS TO GAME WITH GAME PERFORMANCE it sounds low for some reason. I recommend having Atmos set to Movies and Detailed EQ it’ll have a louder, fuller sound and you still still tune to your liking on B&O app for FPS. Comfort wise: there’s really not much to say as in I love that these do not hurt my ears or head and i can wear for long term! Battery life: it’s 24 hours on Bluetooth or 12 hours playing Xbox. Now the elephant in the room: as these are supposed to be a gaming headset as well, the biggest missing feature is simultaneously having Bluetooth while playing Xbox. So if you like to have group chats on Discord while playing Xbox it’s gonna suck so hopefully B&O can push out an update for it because for 500 dollars you expect everything. Also there is no case, again you are paying 500 dollars, i expect to have a case to protect these beautiful headphones even if it’s something as ugly as the AirPod Max ones just give us something to put it in. Overall I do love the headset, it’s now my daily driver for gaming and listening to music and if you also have a PS5 you can use it on there as well provided you use the included cord with the headphones. Would I recommend them: if you have money to spend why not, if you find them on sale for 300-400 then yes i def recommend at that point. Because that one missing gamer feature and no case is glaring and prevents me from giving it a perfect score

Versatile & high quality, but requires setup

The Beoplay Portals are excellent headphones, but not directly out of the box. Some setup is required, and if you are using Android, an up-to-date app is needed to bring proper audio to anything on the Xbox wireless 2.4ghz connection. Without the latest version, there is no 'dark mode' specific to the xbox wireless connection, which brings improvements to sound volume and adds equalizer controls. With the included Dolby Atmos license, I found that the headset sounded off. On PC, some games (Prey, Hades) had flat and weak audio. Using the equalizer on the Beoplay app helps somewhat, but there is still a muted effect, as well as what seems like a large room space setting. Using windows sonic is even worse. Comparing these to a set of Steelseries Arctis Pro wireless helped to improve the audio quality in PC games. While the Portals come with a lifetime Atmos license, the Arctis Pros use DTS: Headphone X licensing. The Portals can use either, and selecting DTS seems to have an immediately noticeable improvement in clarity and punch. The real strength in these headphones is that they really are the jack of all trades. PC and Xbox gaming with 2.4ghz wireless, BT 5.1 AptX on phones, self-powered 3.5mm audio connection, USB-C charging/connectivity, and good active noise cancellation. They can even directly connect to a PS5 using an AptX Bluetooth-to-USB adapter, and will register as a Tempest 3D compatible headset in the menu. Lastly, they are incredibly comfortable and lightweight; with a very similar feel to Bose Quietcomfort headphones. The touch controls are reliable and responsive. The capacitive sides seem a bit wasted solely on play/pause or mute/unmute, though. If you are looking for value or the absolute best in a specific area, these may not be the best choice. However, they are very good at an extremely wide range of applications, if you are willing to experiment with apps, connections and codecs.

First off this is not a Xbox headset, they are high end headphones with amongst it's many features includes wireless connection to Xbox. One thing it can't do however is maintain concurrent Xbox and Bluetooth connections. The reason given is to improve Xbox connectivity. I would excuse this if true but if your environment is 2.4 GHz noisy they will behave like any dongless Xbox headset. I have managed to minimize the dropouts by powering on my Xbox via the Beoplay, seems to matter being the first connected device. Battery is also just okay, in the twelve hour range. Minus 2 stars. With that out of the way these headphones are exceptional in every other way; sound, build quality, versatility, and controls. These sound amazing when listening to music, for a Bluetooth headset to rival my wired Shure SE846's makes me happy. Sound is also great in games with a high fidelity sound not typically heard. I usually change Dolby Atmos to Detailed or Warm with other headsets but these sound great left at Game Mode. You can also use these on PC and Playstation via USB. They are meant to be your one headset for everything; commuting, flights, video conferencing, entertainment, and gaming. Controls are minimal and slick but if not to your liking just access via your phone with the app. They are also very light, comfortable, and stylish, Even though I have plenty of wireless Xbox headset options I want to use the Beoplay Portal more than the others, so a keeper.

Having owned the Beoplay H9i and H9 (3rd Gen), I was hyped to get the Beoplay Portals. Lets start with the good stuff. 1. The most comfortable headphone i ever put on my head. 2. Decent sound with ok sound stage. 3, Looks very attractive off the head. Now the bad. 1. Not easy to connect to xbox. After syncing, you need to go in and tinker with the settings to get it to work. 2. Decent sound but not for the price. I actually switched to my Beats Solo Pro and they sounded the same but with less sound stage. 3. No forward and backward control? 4. Connecting directly to PC, mic sounds the same as other BT headphones. You need the xbox Windows 10 adapter to make is sound good. 5. with these being high end headphones that double as gaming headsets, you want to go out in public wearing these. Well the cushions are so thick that it makes the headphones look ridiculous on your head. but it is very comfortable. I'm would rather take the look of the Beoplay HX as the earpads are less thick. 6. Battery life only 25 hours and 12 hours connected to xbox. Decent but not industry standard. Final word. It tries to be the jack of all trades but comes across as just a flexible but average pair of headphones IMO.

-Microphone didn’t pick up my voice clearly. -App doesn’t work connect to the headphones. I reached out to BO support and “they were aware of the issue”. No solution was offered, and these have been on the market for some time. -Headphones are incapable of taking phone calls while playing XBOX. Good. -Best sounding headphones I’ve ever worn -Light-weight…. Like super lightweight -Look cool. -Nice touch controls. -It’s obvious they spent a ton of time on the little things.. like when it connects to the Xbox- the sound “throbs” with the Xbox logo light in sync when they first connect (letting you know that they have connected” Sadly, there are too many non starters for me. I will try this brand again, but have to return these.

I bought these headphones since I use my Xbox Series X almost every day and wanted a jack of all trade headphones that I can also use to listen to music with. I knew these would be an expensive set of headphones as did as much research before buying these headphones. After buying them and using the headphones for a week I can confidently say these are as advertised in terms of quality for the price. I will start by saying if you expect pounding loud headphones, these are not for you because these headphones excel at quality instead of power. Not to say these headphones cannot get loud at all but I would assume a lot of the bad reviews are due to people using these headphones out of the box without setting them up through the application. The thing that stood out about these headphones is the amount of detail you can hear, it's incredible. I have been using turtles beaches to the 800 rigs for my Xbox console and those were good for the price but wow, these Portal headphones are on another level. I can't stress enough to make sure to update the firmware and mess with the equalizer settings before using these headphones because the default settings are flat-sounding. I would suggest boosting the bass and go from there and another note it's helpful to use the app while using these headphones to control them while playing games. The only bad thing I can say about these headphones is I wish the battery lasted longer but they seem to last about 6-7 hours when you use the ANC feature while playing games but at least they do charge fast. I also wish they had a better way of telling you when the mic gets muted or unmuted since it uses a LED light that you can't really see when you have them on but while using the app it does let you know. When you turn them on the mic is on so you have to get used to always muting which is annoying but maybe there is something I can do to fix that setting. The last word about this product is if you're trying to get the value of headphones for your money, look elsewhere. If you want a brand new experience when playing games to listening music while using headphones that are comfortable and look stylish, these are it. I'm happy with this product and I've mostly been using them for Rainbow Six Siege and it's night and day difference for knowing where people are with how precise the sound is on these headphones.

Original sale price of $500 is definitely way too high for these. But the $200 sale price is a lot more reasonable and you wont find anything better in that range. Build quality is top notch with the use of metal and leather. And the functionality with the xbox feature is a welcomed one. To me these are a music headphone first and gaming headphone second, the sound quality on these are amazing, but the mic quality leaves me wanting something better. Overall great headphones at $200, highly recommended at that price and that price only.

I love these headphones/headset! They are super lightweight and very comfortable on the head and ears. The earcups are very supple and plush. These synced up with my Xbox Series X quickly and with no problems. The sound quality is absolutely amazing! The buttons along with the touch sensitive areas of this headset are very responsive. The companion app is a big plus and can be used to tweak different aspects of the headset as you like. These charge fast and lasted me about 12 to 13 hours on a full charge. You also get a 3 year warranty with these, so you can't go wrong

The first thing I will say is I really do like this headset. It is light-weight, looks great, sounds good and seems to have a decent range. I would think that with the cost of this headset, it would have come with some sort of carrying case to keep them safe during transport. The app works well. I use this headset for gaming on my PC, I have the Microsoft wireless adapter as required and I have used it to listen to music on my phone. Sometimes switching between PC and phone is a little buggy. I've noticed when I'm gaming that if there is a situation in game where a lot of different sounds are happening, it crackles and cuts out. I'm sitting about 2 feet from the adapter, so that is a tad bit annoying. For me, the noise-cancelling is just meh. I was hoping that an over-the-ear headset that costs $500 would cancel a bit more, but I can still hear everything going on around me, maybe my expectations are just unrealistic. My one big gripe about this headset is that it doesn't seem to be long hair friendly. the touch bars to adjust volume and ANC are on the backs of the headset, and I guess they are so sensitive that hair brushing it triggers it. If I don't have my hair up, the volume and such are constantly going to the extreme highs and lows.

Amazing pair of high quality headphones. May be a little on the expensive side. The low-end sounds could be a little improved. Definitely needs to be able to connect to both Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth at the same time like other cheaper headsets can and it would be well worth it. Can use on PS4/Switch with USB-C wired connection is a plus.

Only my second day with these but am really enjoying them. They are probably the most comfortable headsets that are offered. I personally feel the Astro A50s sound a little bit better at the end of the day. The only thing holding these back is the big price tag and lack of a case or stand for the headsets.

I have to say, this is one of the best sounding headphones i have ever owned, and i own a lot of premium headphones, including beats studio, apple airpods max etc. this one has the cleanest, clearist sound out of all of them, volume level is very good also.. sound leakage is big though when listening to music at high levels. It has two modes Bluetooth for phones and tablets and xbox for using on console which sadly cannot ve used simultaneously, but both modes sound great, especially with ANC on. Only thing i dislike is that build quality feels cheap in my opinion and for the price it does not include a case. I wouldn't recommend it for full price but for $150 or $250 is a great headphones for gaming and music!

Absolutely love these. Being able to switch from my PC, work laptop, xbox, and phone with one button press is incredible. The comfort is more than I've grown to expect with gaming headphones. I previously had the Astro A50 Gen 4s, and while I love those, these definitely give me a better picture as to where things are around me on the Series X with Dolby Atmos. That said, the microphone is not as good as the Astros, and I've been told it sounds like I'm talking in an empty room. People can hear me perfectly fine, but something to note coming from such a stellar mic on my previous headset. The B&O app has been flawless for me. If you are having a hard time with Xbox audio being too quiet, make sure you move the audio slider from chat to game to ensure it's loud enough for you. That wasn't a problem for me. It does, however, have two different sound profiles when you are in bluetooth mode and Xbox Wireless mode, and I recommend turning the bass up *slightly* in Xbox mode to get the same audio quality you experience in bluetooth. All in all, this headset is worth it to me because it replaces my PS5 Pulse headset (you can use these with an aux cable on PS5 without losing any features), my Astro A50s on my Xbox, and my Surface headphones I used for commuting. The audio honestly blows the other cans I have out of the water, with comfort just edging out the Surface headphones (Note: I am not an audio expert, just a fan of how things sound). Easily the best sounding and most comfortable headset I've ever had. Is that worth $500 to you? Maybe. To me, the ease of use and overall production make it money well spent.

I really like everything about these with the exception of the volume and the mic. I've had LOTS of different Xbox headsets and currently have a few which include the LucidSound LS35X and Audeze Penrose X. The sound quality on the B&O is amazing but they maybe only get to around 65% of the volume compared to both other headsets. The mic is great but I have people tell me I sound a little like I'm in water and any background noise like TV gets picked up pretty easy. Other than that the feature set is amazing. I love that they are paired to my Xbox and my phone in case someone calls I can answer straight to the headset and keep playing. Also, the fact that they auto connect to my phone when I turn them on and start gaming is great because I don't even realize how great they work until someone calls.

Works perfectly. No connection problem. Sounds great! No complaints except the price. It’s sad no one can make a descent headset these days. I’ve waisted tons of money searching for a good sound and comfort. Guess that’s why I spent the money for these, but so far I’m satisfied. They look nice, sound great, and feel comfy. Clear sound, punchy mids, spacial awareness is what I wanted.

Very well made. Extremely comfortable. Pairs to 2 Bluetooth devices simultaneously, so you can swap between a phone and a tablet (for example) without re-pairing. The B&O app let’s you control everything. The volume and ANC/Transparency sliders on the ear ups work surprisingly well. Clicking one button on the headset or in the app switches to Xbox mode. A full license for the Dolby Atmos Xbox app is included. It works just as well for gaming and offers game/chat balance control. Includes 3.5mm cable and a USB C cable for charging or using it with the Xbox or a PC/Mac. If you want one pair of headphones that can be used with 3 devices (one being an Xbox or PC with the Xbox Wireless Adapter) without ever needing to repair, this is it.
