You want to keep your current monitor that only has DVI-D & SVGA inputs. Do you really want to add 1 more connection (via an adapter), another thing to screw-in securely, that potentially could fail) - NOT! This is a simple, single-cable, no adapter solution that will work. Under $10 or, under $16 if you really want to boast about the gold-plated connectors, which you really don't need for just about all uses.
