This is a reliable lens that offers excellent autofocus, stable images. Very satisfied with the image quality of photos taken with this lens. Excellent focal lengths for wildlife or bird photography. Highly recommended. Only criticism is that the lens is very expensive, as it seems all Canon RF products are.

This lens is just wonderful, after using the RF-800mm for 8 months and working around the shortcomings of the lens F11 using the 100-500 mm it is such a joy to be able to shoot and know that the image I just capture is in focus and little grain with out even peeking at the image

Great pairing for my Canon RF5, this 100-500 L lens brings the wildlife up closer, and the combination is just lovely for birds as well as larger wildlife. Extremely pleased with the sharpness, focus, and excellent quality.

Challenging lens

The focal length, 100-500mm coupled with the rather slow aperture makes this a challenging lens to operate. 500mm is approximately a 10X magnification. That coupled with an f/7.1 aperture gives a slow shutter speed that increases camera shake.
A tripod of course solves the issue however affects portability.

Had a last minute job that required 500mm lens Didn't have time to rent a lens, so I bought the 100-500. The f7.1 you would think would be a little slow, but with the R5 it worked well. Had to shoot from the back of the theater with mediocre lighting and was able to get crisp images. The zoom range is awesome, for distance shooting. Gives you a decent wide to extreme close up.. Good bang for the buck not having to spend $$$ on a prime telephoto.

I just came into the mirrorless world, so you may want to take my review with a grain of salt, but this is an amazing lens. The autofocus is super fast to me. It comes with a lens hood, which I believe you need. This lens and a 24-105 f4 are the only lenses that I will use for a photographic safari next summer. While this is for a larger format than the older DSLR or SLR, it is a lot smaller and easier to use than similar lenses in the other format. I have been a Nikon fan boy since the 1970s, but I don’t think Nikon has anything to compare with the new Canon Systems.

Relatively quick focusing. Sharp pictures. Not as heavy as other zooms in its class. I'm happier using it than I was my Sigma 150-500 EF mount with an adaptor.

I bought the Tamron 150-600 and returned it immediately cos I could not get it to focus consistently on birds at a distance. Then I bought the Canon EF 100-400 and returned it within a week as it was also inconsistent with focus. After reading reviews (extensively) I purchased this lens...OMG... no focus failures....crisp nearly every time. This lens is a keeper. Highly recommend you purchase if you want dependable long distance wildlife shots.

This is a great telephoto lens for shooting wildlife and the moon. It has all the bells and whistles like all of the other Canon L lenses and a few more. It is a bit pricey but I purchased it with my Best Buy credit card and picked up a lot of bonus points. If you can afford it its a nice lens to add to your camera bag.
