Cobra RAD-450 Vs. Passport 9500ix

If you don't want the story just scroll all the way down. If you want to read the experience, continue.
For 2 years I had an old XRS-9370 cobra that became outdated and started picking up every sensor from stores, to Audi, BMW, and GM vehicles. It got annoying with false alarms. So I decided to go with a Passport 9500ix. Out of the box it was a very good radar and would pick up at long distances which is good, but again it would pick up Cadillac and Mercedes Benz vehicles. Not as severe as my old radar, but I decided to hold onto it. Now 5 days after the purchase the right side of the lights on the display went dim. I decided to return it.
Oddly enough, I read about the RAD-450 Cobra but never saw one in inventory at any best buy. But this day. I returned the escort and there was only one RAD450 that none of the members even knew about. It was just there and it was the only one they had got. So I decided to give it a try.
Quick review: I'm blown away by the performance of this radar. It does NOT pick up any type of collision system from any GM which has been a pain for both escort and cobra owners. As for distance in picking up police, it doesn't have an extreme long distance reach but does have maybe about a mile reach which comes in handy. As far as quality, it seems very well put together and it does exactly what it says with the IVT filter for In-Vehicle-Technology. 1 false alarm in 3 days. I had 8 false alarms with the escort in 5 days. Worth the money!!!

I bought this to save me from tickets, Unfortunately I got ticket. I was surprised that it got a lot of false alarms as well as didn't detect many cops that I passed by. It did nothing even when I am on speed limit or less. Seems the cops got new radar system this cobra couldn't handle it no more!
Definitely returned this back!!

This has most of the features of the $500 models, at a fraction of the cost. Performance appears satisfactory, it detected X, K and Ka bands with no problem. Laser capable, I have not received any laser alerts to assess. Radar detector 'detector' also alerted. As with any detector of this type it is difficult to assess the validity of alerts or number of false alerts. It did appear to occasionally alert near specific autos, which may be attributed to vehicle safety systems, occasionally but infrequent.

This is the 2nd Cobra radar detector I've bought. it seems to detect radar signals from over a mile away. I like the fact that there are three different sensitivity levels to help avoid needless false alarms. It's simple to use and a great value for the price.

I did some research and chose this one over some of the other expensive dectectors and it works great. It has been dead on accurate and the range is very good- enough time for me to slow down. No issues with false alarms. Buying another one for the other car.

I'm happy with my purchase. It works much better than my old radar detector because it doesn't constantly beep unless a police radar is right on me. My old radar detector would beep incessantly until the radar was out of range (annoying). This one beeps once and stops. It also doesn't give me as many false alerts from businesses and other cars (blind spot detector).

Great little radar detector, very sensitive. Also very loud so I can hear it over the music in my car. Also has a very easy to access mute button. And at less than half the price for other units comparable to this one it was a bargain. definitely has saved me money from getting tickets.

Ive had this for about 2 weeks and its worked the way it should...sometimes. It won't pick up the much less powerful solar sign radar even if it's head on, Im assuming they're too low powered. It has signaled me about 3/4 of a mile when there's an oncoming police officer with KA band so range is ok, enough for me to slow down.
False signals are very minimal with this unit, I like that. I usually have it on Medium sensitivity and it seems to filter out those unwanted signals.
I will await for the Uniden R1 to go back on sale for $179 then I'll be switching out as I have read that the R1 has better range.

I would give this five stars if not for poorly written directions and window attachment suction cups that constantly fall off. Detector seems to work with very few false readings. Better than expected for the price.

Much improved over my old detector.Very few false readings. Only used in city so far, but lets me know when approaching radar. Used with a glenmount mount on rear view mirror.Makes a nice installation. Would recommend to anyone looking to locate radar.

Cobra - Radar and Laser Detector does detect all the signals but the only issue is it has many false signals. I understand it has the capability to delete the unwanted signals but I have not tried that yet. The price is very reasonable.

This was my second attempt. My first detector I tried to get kept going off in my garage due to my car's radar for proximity and such. It was annoying, going past a car with blind spot detection would set it off too.
This one doesn't have the same issues. Works well. There's a lot of spots my other detectors would go off from some store's radar for the doors, but this only goes off at one of them. Every other alert it gives is genuine.
The only downside is the window mount - it's horrible and doesn't last. Keeps falling off if it gets too hot or too cold, so I replaced it with a better third party one.
For the price can't beat this.

So I have been wanting one of these for a while a happened to stumble upon this one. I bought it cause it was a decent price and a brand I can count on. All I can say is wow. If you actually follow the directions given then you will make sure you get every dollar spent back. Most people just mount these things on the dash which defeats the purpose of having a 360 degree scanner. Detects from really really long distances, barley get false alarms like banks, store sliding doors, and other cars. I have had 3 other friends buy this product and they fall in love with it just as I did.

I was hesitant to buy a Cobra radar detector as my experience in the past was not favorable. I read the reviews and decided to give it a try, to my surprise this model is unlike any I’ve had in the past. I’m very happy with this detector as are others.

I have a love-hate relationship with this Cobra Detector. It works absolutely fantastic when it wants to. Sometimes it will read a cop from as far as half-mile away. Occasionally, it doesn't work at all when you know good and well that a cop is using his radar. There is lots of false readings when driving the interstate which gives you more anxiety than if there really were a cop nearby. All in all, it has definitely saved me from several tickets, but really would recommend looking into pricier alternatives if you think that you must have a detector.
