Q: Can police in dc or va detect this radar detector?
A: Supposedly not. Manual claims its not detectable.
A: This detector does not go off at all when a new car sporting the new avoidance RADAR goes by. It is also up gradable as new systems are put in cars
Q: How is the detector mounted? Is the power source the cigarette lighter?
A: It comes with a power cord that plugs into your cigarette lighter. It provides suction cups for windshield mounts and also a double stick Velcro pad to attach to the dash. However you must put it so that the rear facing Laser has an unobstructed view through your rear window. On my 2013 F150 I had to put it on the windshield so that it was high enough to be able to 'see' over the rear seats.
Q: Is there a city/highway mode?
A: It has 3 sensitivity levels (low, medium and high) that are similar to city/highway mode. I like that it has a "medium" sensitivity for the times you may go through a mix of city and highway.
Q: What is the rage of this detector when detecting another radar, laser gun, etc.?
A: You have to be careful when mounting this unit. It must have an unrestricted view. Windshield wipers and a tinted brow on the windshield will affect the range on this detector. Mounting it above the windshield wipers and ensuring that the detector is fairly level will assist in how well it can detect radar/laser. This detector has signaled for a radar over 1 mile away when it had an unobstructed view. Remember that buildings, hills, and other things can interfere somewhat with the detector's ability.
Q: My radar rad450 does not dectects laser guns is there anything can be done
A: Mine detects laser, maybe you have an obstruction in rear of detector.
A: I just measured it and its 7 ft.
Q: How effective is it if I have tinted windows
A: I have my front windshield tinted and it does not affect it at all.
