Good replacement for 25 yr old speakers
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using an Altec Lansing Portable3 2.1 speaker set for over 25 yrs. They still sound good but I was ready for something new. The Edifier line looked popular and the R1850DB was the price point I was looking at. Features included everything I needed plus more. I added an optical adapter to my computer to get the best input for these speakers. My ancient turntable connected running through a preamp. Sound is very good with no distortion at my normal listening volume. When I compared it to my old set, I thought the Edifiers weren't as bright on the highs, but after more careful listening I think it is because they have more midrange than my old set. I'm not into room shaking base so these have enough for me. I did try connecting the subwoofer from my Altec set and it did work but I don't think I'll bother using it. I haven't used the Bluetooth feature. A couple minor complaints. I wish these had the controls on the side like some other Edifier models. On the back is just too inconvenient to use. The remote is not well designed. All the buttons are crammed together with lots of unused space that could have been used to provide more space between buttons. And why are there 2 up/down volume buttons? In summary, these are nice speakers. Are they that much better than some of the lower priced Edifiers to justify paying more? I don't know but I'm happy with them.

Fantastic PC speaker when paired with a good sub
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced a set of Logitech pc speakers and subwoofer with the Edifier R1850DB speakers and a SVS SB-1000 subwoofer and I couldn't be happier. When I bought the Logitech PC speakers some 10 years ago I thought they sounded pretty good, but now that I have heard what high quality speakers should sound like in my home theater it became difficult to continue using the logitechs. The reason I bought the Edifier R1850DB is because of the subwoofer output that allows you to use any subwoofer. I chose the SVS subwoofer because it is compact yet very powerful. I want to feel the bass in my chest. I know it's not the cheapest option, but I would rather have more subwoofer than I need and turn it down, than not have enough. The Edifier has a fairly neutral sound, but you can tune it to your taste with the a treble and bass knob located on the back of the speaker. You can run them without a subwoofer, but these speakers are meant to be enjoyed with a quality sub. They really shine when paired with a nice sub. I found that the bass really rolled off around 80hz, so you'll want to set the crossover on your subwoofer between 80-100hz. Plan to spend a chunk of time tinkering to get the system sounding exactly the way you want it. For the best sound quality, I recommend connecting these to the computer by optical cable. The sound quality of the new set up has exceeded my expectations and is a substantial upgrade over what I had before. If you aren't satisfied with the sound quality of your typical PC speaker offerings, then this could be your next step up the audio ladder if you're able to spend the extra money.

great desktop speakers
|Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As active speakers they don't require any additional power and at the price they are worth it. sound is clear and has EQ knobs (sadly located on the rear) that allow you to adjust sound to your liking. used as desktop speakers for awhile but later opted in favor of passive speakers for better sound and upgradability.

Surprising
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was just trying to get something to play mp3’s And stream that sounded decent. I am a pro audio guy and I own pair of a Sennheiser Momentum headphones that are optimized for mp3. I was hoping to find speakers that were similar. I already own speakers much higher price and quality than these. They would render mp3s too obviously bad compared to hq audio files or cds. I am one of those guys that hears a difference. That being said, I gotta say the tone knob on these allowed me to dial in a tone for mp3s and streaming that was rich in detail and the bass is not too muddy. I can’t honestly expect more for $200. I am surprised but not shocked though, since I did a lot of reading. If you are expecting an audiophile system, that it is not. It is a much better than avg computer speaker though, and the ability to add a sub later sealed the deal. Watch out for the little Indicator lite though on the front of the right speaker. If you are fussy about stuff like lights in unexpected places, sleeping with it on, etc it might be a problem. Not for me.

Outstanding sound quality
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had the speakers for a while now and I just adore them! I use them for home studio recording and my family uses them to listen to music - the Bluetooth works easily so they can connect with their phones. Also -- I comment in the review that I enjoy them using the Polk subwoofer but they actually get enough bass that you don't NEED the subwoofer. I'd call these speakers one of my best purchases of the year.

Excellent speakers!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought these because I wanted something to connect to all my devices at once (tv/ps4, record player, bluetooth, computer). This did not disappoint at all! Sound is very clear and full (depending on the source of course) and it's very easy to switch between inputs. My selling point on these versus the cheaper model was the ability to turn them on/off with the remote.

Loves these!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These speakers are wonderful. Crispy clear LOUD sound. I bought them for the computer. They are a tad big for just computer speakers but I don't stream a bunch from my computer and they just sound great when I back up a bit to watch a show. Of course, they sound great streaming music as well and it is nice to be able to switch over and play from my phone on Bluetooth. They feel great, nice, and solid.

Good, but not great - yet.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Haven't been able to complete adjustments on the speakers (no woofer attached) so sound is not up to the standard of excellence I expected. Probably not the fault of the speakers, but nevertheless, out of the box, they were not perfect.

Nice speakers
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did like the sound of the speakers. I just did not like that their is not an auto volume function. That being said, I understand that these speakers are not necessarily meant for a projector, therefore that is why there is not the auto volume feature. If I was just using for music, they would be great!!

Blown away!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was blown away by the sound quality for the price. Enough bass for a desktop 2.0 system, but they'd really fill out the space with a subwoofer.

Works fine with my phone but with my PC...
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When paired with my phone, these speakers work great. For some reason, when I pair it with my PC (the main reason why I got these), there's incredible disruption, to the point that if you touch the side of the main speaker it cuts out. You have to move the speakers around like an old TV antenna and my computer is only two feet away. My gaming rig is less than two years old and I've never had an issue with any Bluetooth connectivity on any other device except these. Maybe mine have some sort of defect.

Unreliable Remote control - and poor support
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The speakers work fine, but I'm at my 4th remote control. I found out that many people have the issue I have and I can't fix it. I sent an email to the company never got a response. Then when I ordered twice extra remote controls, they just offered to send me another remote!!
