Great product for recording console gameplay. I use this to capture in 1080p @ 60fps. Despite knocking off one star for the cons listed below, this is still probably the best device on the market for its intended purpose. Pros: - Super easy to set up, record, and stream - Fantastic capture quality - Instant gameview with USB 3.0 is a very helpful feature - Automatic export to MP4 if you'd rather use a program like Adobe After Effects or Premiere to edit video Cons: - If you don't have a desktop gaming setup (i.e. you game from your couch), you will have to keep connecting and disconnecting the device when you want to use it so there aren't wires all over the place all the time - If you also use your XBox as a media streaming device (Netflix, Hulu, etc.), you have to keep toggling the HDCP on/off and connecting/disconnecting when you want to use the device - Streaming options, while powerful, are not as user-friendly as OBS (one thing I don't like is you have to manually set the streaming upload speed) and still lack some functionality

    Drops Frames and Kills CPU

I went into this capture card already hearing bad things and initially when I used the card, seemed fine. I would like to say the instant game view is awesome but it's not worth it unless your computer is beyond an i7 quad-core processor. I have an i7 quad-core 2.9 ghz, 16gb of ram, and a Radeon Pro 460 4gb but this pushes my CPU to over 110%. The problem here is that the capture card itself has no encoder built in. This is HUGE DESIGN FLAW of the device. Elgato needs to fix the system requirements because all the specs that supposedly works is false. I will say that the software is easy to use and understand. Streaming to Twitch is a breeze and they make the best of signing in to your account and hit the live button, I do hate that the game tag is always set to Pac-Man on default. Elgato, this has no encoder built-in. Put one in it! Also, this capture card needs a CPU higher than a quad-core i7!! Be warned and find another capture card with and encoder built-in!! As for me? I'll go to Avermedia and use theirs as they have a built-in encoder.

Basically it’s the previous model except you can live stream. When you shut your computer off there is no signal pass through when the elgato is not powered so you have to disconnect it from your Xbox if you want to use your Xbox for Netflix or anything else that is viewable on your tv. Seems like more effort than necessary for people who don’t have a dedicated set up. Not sure if other manufacturers have a workaround in box for that I didn’t compare and it’s not even mentioned it was a “oh that’s inconvenient” found moment after already setting it up and using it. It does pick up game audio but not from the actual user, you need a separate microphone even if you already have a game mic/headset that plugs into your controller...why? lol Read the box. The system requirements really are the minimum system requirements. They are not suggestions. You need a quad core. Once you meet or exceed all the requirements it works as it should. Usb3.0 ports are usually blue btw.

So I've been streaming without the Elgato with just in app on my Xbox or through obs and windows Xbox streaming. The streaming has been pretty good but was having issues not capturing audio. I was turned on to Elgato being told this will fix that problem. Well it fixed the audio problem butt my streams were now coming through laggy choppy and kept making my streaming provider buffer every 2 seconds. This was a waste of money I should have just stayed on the default programs I have on my computer and through my Xbox rather than buying this. This was supposed to cut down on CPU usage as it was not going through my computer butt I could not get nearly 50 frames per second with choppy and buffering on 720 on the lowest quality setting. If you stream I would highly recommend you do not get this piece of equipment as it will just be a waste of money when you can do it for $179 cheaper going through your computer

After watching and reading many videos and reviews my son wanted this as a gift to make Youtube videos. After traveling 90 miles to Best Buy and speaking with two sales associates regarding the Elgato I was told it was the best and all I had to do was "just hook it up and go". Hook up was simple, however, I was not told all of the complex requirements that my computer had to have to even run the stupid thing! The computer is only 4 years old and "not compatible for Elgato". I called Elgato and they basically laughed about it!! I was on the phone twice with Best Buy and was disconnected both times!! Very disappointed that Best Buy did not disclose that the computer had to be Windows 10, 4th generation quad-core i5 CPU, GTX 600 series graphics and so on compatible as well as very disappointed in Elgato that they would require so much! My son is recording Xbox videos not producing an award winning film!!! Again, HIGHLY disappointed with Best Buy and Elgato!! If you have a high price and brand new computer it might work great but I guess we will never know!! Returning right away!!

    Nintendo Switch + Mac

While I may utilize the capture and streaming capabilities this product was designed for in the future, I actually bought the HD60S because it allows me to connect my Nintendo Switch to my iMac display. On one hand it's a pricey solution for these purposes, but I don't have a TV that I'd connect the console to, and I'm not going to buy one, so it evens out. Other than a couple restarts of the Game Capture HD software due to the audio cutting out, everything's been working great. I think you need a pretty fast processor for optimal performance (I have a i7 4.2 7700K cpu). I stream full 1080p @60fps, with no perceptible lag from the wireless controllers. Everything looks great and runs smooth.

2 HDMI cbls needed, can't capture specific window

As much as I wanted this to work, I was having some difficulties. I'm going to return the product because it did not unfortunately work for me. There is an HDMI in and out on this product. The IN connects to your computer while the OUT connects to your monitor. That means you'll be needing an extra HMDI cable since it only comes with one. With the Elgato you are only able to capture what's on your monitor. When plugged in to the computer the Elgato is recognized as a "display". That means if you have 2 monitors it will pop up as a third monitor. This ALSO means that you have to duplicate your default monitor (the one where you're playing games on) to the Elgato (3rd monitor in this case). Because you're doing this, it shows everything that is on your screen. If I get a message in my steam overlay, then my stream will see it. If there was a way SOMEHOW that I could capture a specfic window (like game capture in OBS) this would help a ton.

Elgato/Corsair's HD60 S works wonderfully to capture and stream online 1080p60 content over HDMI from the current generation of video game consoles. Because it's an externally-connected USB device, it works perfectly with Macintosh and Windows PCs alike. The Game Capture HD software is easy to use and understand, but note that the Mac version of the software lacks parity with the Windows version. There's always BootCamp, right Mac friends? One last tidbit - although you can capture content from any HDMI source, be sure you understand what HDCP is before purchasing. Some consoles allow you to turn off HDCP via a settings screen, while other consoles force HDCP without a way to turn it off.

Okay, so first of all I am new to this game capture area. I bought the elgato hd 60 s based on features and reviews. Honestly its been awesome so far, the streaming, commentary and game capture is awesome, the only downside is the setup because their instructions are not the best, and also the settings on the software should have instructions for lets say xbox one , ps4, and such. Remember to buy the chat link cables on amazon, it doesn't come in the package so you have to buy it yourself to record game chat. I think thats a downer because the hd60 has it included but the 60 z doesn't. Overall its great for beginners , the software lets you customize the recorded videos as well. Also you have to really play with the balance between the volume of game chat, and game sound, lots of trial and error.

I've been looking for a capture device that would allow me to use its preview window as an actual screen to play off of with little to no lag. Effectively I could plug this into my MS Surface and it would become a gorgeous 1080p portable screen for whatever system I wanted to plug an HDMI into. I'm happy to report that while there might be 1 frame or so of lag, games are completely playable in the preview window and no worse than if your TV didn't have a game mode. You can make the preview window in the game capture software full screen or use it windows while you multitask doing other things. As for capture and stream performance, it works like a charm and I've not run into a single issue. I can't recommend this capture kit enough. Elgato has made an amazing tool.

This is a game capture device that in reality is fairly simple to use. It seems to have a few bugs that make it operate funny at times, and I'm not smart enough to really figure it out. It can record audio/video pretty easily, though getting a proper balance is difficult. Exporting from the software is super simple. I still don't really know how to get this to work in concert with adobe suite software to really make my audio sound good, since it's just not great with this alone. But that's my own shortcoming since I don't know how to use Adobe's stuff. All in all, it does what it's supposed to do, but it's not quite perfect.

The Elgato HD60 S is great for recording gameplay! If you want to record anything else, though things start to get complicated. I had a project for class where I needed movie clips, and I wanted them at a super high quality, so I planned on using the Elgato to get the clips. The Elgato would not let me record the video because of how it was encrypted; HDCP. HDCP encryption will come from Blu Ray players, XBox Ones, Play Staytions (you can turn it off on Play Staytions), and even a cable box, and will only occur when something is copyrighted like a movie. Ignoring my issues with HDCP, the Elgato records at a great framerate, and the audio is also spot on.

Hated this thing soo much that I returned it. Hated the fact that I needed to buy a chat link for this to work with PS4 and the 2 i purchased didn't work. Even went out and bought new wired headset because you cannot use this with a bluetooth headset. After returning it, i went out and purchased an external mic and went through several laptops as the Alienware, MSI and HP Omen had different audio profiles for connected headsets that didn't work well with this in combination with Streamlabs OBS which is the main program I stream on. After figuring some things out and finally settling on the best laptop for streaming (IMO) I repurchased and now everything is running smooth!

This capture card is easy to use and works as promised. Easily captured gameplay on my Xbox one. The editing software included works well and in no time I was making high quality videos to stream and share. I would recommend this and the brand is well known for ease of use and quality. The unit is small which makes portability easy. One small issue I am trying to resolve is a small square in the bottom right hand corner of all my videos. It is probably user error that I just need to figure out. Other than that, it works well and as promised.

elgato HD60S - This capture card is about as easy as it gets to use. Literally plug and play. Perfect for stream capturing mobile devices, gaming consoles, or anything that puts out hdmi. Requires USB 3.0 to work, works with software like OBS/XSplit. It offers real time audio output, which I needed for streaming from my iPhone X (done with an lightning to hdmi adapter). I also have the HD60 PRO internal capture card, for my specific use of mobile streaming, it did not offer real time audio, the 60S does.

It’s okay if you’re trying to use stream labs along with it but then comes the problem with audio. When you’re using OBS or even the elgato capture site you can’t have audio coming through your headset without losing audio to your stream or the video in general. It’s a known issue. There’s ways to fix it but it causes you to lose quality and honestly that’s what people purchase a capture device for, quality. So all in all it’s good if you absolutely want to have overlays on your stream but it sucks at the same time because then you have to have a janky set up with two mics, ect. I wouldn’t recommend it in all honesty

    Issues with OBS

Works great with Game Capture HD, it's proprietary software. But with OBS/Studio I get frame drops. Still seeking a reason for this as OBS/Studio gives you way more options compared to Game Capture HD. The card also tends to have issues from time to time actually pulling up the source, resulting in something as little as an unplug to something more substantial as a reboot of the system. I will note I am capturing from a PS3 which uses HDCP and in order to do so I have employed an hdmi splitter. This could be more the issue with capturing the source as opposed to the card it's self, but I feel it is something that should be noted to those looking to do the same thing.

Great capture card - I got it to stream Switch games from my Macbook Pro. Fair warning - This will work right out of the box with a mac (provided you're running a compatible model) - but it is very limited compared to what you can do on Windows. I managed to get it running using Windows 10 partitioned on my computer - which allows you to do much more than the somewhat limited capture software that it comes with. It also only can be used with consoles that use HDMI. Anything older that uses component cables is not compatible.

I purchased the external capture card to start streaming from my XBOX One X. The card works very well, but set up isn't completely hassle free. The card has worked very well with only a few minor issues since installation. Most of these have been due to OBS software updates and also an HDCP issue from my XBOX to the Elgato (even though it shouldn't have been an issue). I would recommend purchasing the internal card and move your computer closer to your console if you're going to stream.

I have an internal version of this brand in my PC but I like this version much better. Although the internal version might have better performence but this one is far more convinient. I don't need very long cable to hook my camera any more. And this one works on Mac too which is very useful if you have a IMac because whit this guy, you IMac could be used as a external monitor! Installation was easy, just plug into the USB port and install the driver and software, you are good to go.
