I had a Neat scanner that is no longer compatible with my Macbook Pro. Initially, I was skeptical about the quality of the scanner and after first use, my skepticism went away. The scanner seamlessly works with my Macbook Pro. The scanning quality is quick and provides small pdf file sizes. For two sided documents, just flip the document over and the software allows you combine the scans into one document. It’s small enough to put it in your backpack for travel.

This is a great little scanner! It is compact and fast! The scan quality is the only reason for 4 stars vs. 5. It's still a good quality scanned image, but for the price point, it is expected.

This scanner is made to travel or for small work desk. Easy to connect, easy to use, light and small that fits in my arm. It’s perfect!

This is such a great workhorse and so easy to use! It’s fairly small and the width of a sheet of paper. I keep it on my counter and plug it into my laptop when I need to save and scan receipts. I highly recommend this! Can’t believe I waited so long to get it. So much easier than the traditional printer/scanner.

This is a really cool scanner. It’s great to keep in my pick up truck to scan documents as I get them makes my paperwork a lot easier, especially for the money. It’s been through Hackett and does a great job.

Overall happy with this scanner-- Compact--easy usb attachment/set up to my iMac--great scan resolution too... Took off 1 star because the scanning app is finicky--slow upload onto desktop It may be my computer though--will call Epson to check it out further.

It worked immediately once I got the software installed. This beats having to take my papers to the other room to scan them on the scanner/printer. I have a lot of paper artifacts that I want to keep but don't want cluttering my office, and this is going to be a very good solution.

I like how compact and space saving the scanner is. When I am done using it, I unplug the cord from my computer and place the scanner in a desk drawer. I have been using this scanner to scan in homeschool documents that I send to a home study school for grading. All the documents that I scan are written in pencil. The scanner will pick up some pencil marks, but not all making it frustrating. Sometimes I have to rescan, but it ends up looking worse than before.

We are full-timers living in a 42' motorcoach where space is premium. This ES-50 has allowed us to have a cool piece of tech that can enable us to scan live documents to support our mobile lifestyle. What a great and relevant SKU to carry at Best Buy.

I have zero complaints and the shipping was fast! It was only 100 dollars. I haven't had an issue so far! I'd recommend it. Also, the papers it scans go straight to my mac. So, if you're worried it's not compatible with you're mac don't be! Plus it's portable and light weight.

I really wanted to love this little scanner. I needed something compact that didn't take up much space. I have a ton of pictures that I need to scan and wanted to do it at work on my down time. So it needed to be small and would fit in a backpack. The first 4 or 5 pictures scanned fine, then vertical streaks starting to show up. Nothing I did would get rid of the streaks. I ran it through the cleaning cycle, reset all settings, increased DPI. nothing worked. Will need to return it after just one day. :( If you're just scanning documents you'll love it.

I loved the scanner, it has simplified our work tremendously, helping us save paper, and it's super easy to use.

Wasn't disappointed by this item. Great for easily scanning in photos into your computer / mobile device. Of course also helped clear up a lot of saved documents and important receipts. Always great to have a backup of all the important stuff!

I also purchased the ES-60W after for home wireless network. Too early for a good review this # of stars will rise. Dropped cit on softer carpeted surface no damage highly 5 star rating for the 50 while the scan performance wirelessly a 5 also picture scanned shot though!! Perfect copy this 60 is looking WOW! I also dropped it. I am damaged drop everything bur the Star rating rises to 5. I am headed to a 5 STAR rating. This is only one month and I am a scanning expert.

I like this scanner. At my office you have to walk to the other side of the building to use the scanner. I can keep this in the drawer and save myself a lot of time. Pros - Compact and light - USB Powered (no extra cords or power adapters to carry). Included cord is the perfect length for desktop use (2ft). - Flat bottom with rubber feet gives it a solid stance - Scans quickly even on 1200dpi - Button on scanner that launches the scanning software and starts scanning if a document is loaded - Images are clear with good color reproduction - Offers OCR, with the option to output in searchable PDF files (scans to text that you can copy and paste). Things to Consider - The software has a lot of features, but it is not the most intuitive to use and looks a little dated. Example: It waits until you hit the scan button to tell you that your resolution or feed mode setting is incorrect. It also has a monitor that is always in the system tray (to detect the scanner). - The scanner is quick, but it takes time to get the paper lined up. With regular paper you have to get the hang of pushing it in so that it catches it and goes in smoothly. It also sometimes leaves a black line to the left if you didn't get it flush (the sensitivity to this is adjustable in the software, along with skew correction to help with uneven feeding). - You will need a USB C adapter if you have a new computer that is missing the traditional USB A port. - The software requires high speed internet to download, which is 20-70mb depending on what options you select. - I couldn't find an ARM compatible driver for my Lenova laptop (only important for some new laptops with Snapdragon processors). It works great on my Intel Core i7 with Windows 10. I would recommend this scanner to anyone looking for a portable sheet fed scanner. The scanner is very useful once you get the hang of it.

The Epson WorkForce ES-50 is an excellent portable, lightweight, and fast document scanner. The scanner has only one start button, a ready indicator light, and an automatic feeding mode light. There is one USB port for connecting to the computer. Set-up was fast and easy. All you need to do is plug in the scanner with the included micro USB cable and go to the link provided in the quick start guide to download the drivers and software for the scanner. I really like the Epson SmartScan software which makes scanning very easy. You don’t have to start up the software to begin scanning. Instead, it will automatically start up whenever you insert a document into the scanner’s input slot and press the start button. Once an image is scanned, you can view the image and save it off to your hard drive. There are customized actions you can perform such as sending it to Google Drive or Dropbox (no option for OneDrive), or Evernote or to Word/Excel/Powerpoint. I didn’t see any ability to add user defined custom actions. SmartScan also allows you to customize the format of the filename (with an optional prefix, optional date formats, and an optional postfix counter) the scan is saved with. You can even have SmartScan perform automatic file naming that attempts to generate a good filename by using OCR to detect the subject and date from the scanned image. It actually did a pretty good job when scanning my receipts from Best Buy (but it got the date wrong -- it was using the last return date instead of the purchase date). Scanner settings include the ability to set resolution (75 dpi to 1200 dpi) and image type (Auto, Color, Grayscale, Black and White). It can also correct document skew, rotate image (Auto, 0, 90, 180, 270), remove background, perform text enhancement (standard, high), dropout and color enhance and also adjust brightness, contrast, and gamma for the output. Finally, it has the ability to use an unsharp mask, edge fill and remove punch holes from the image. I didn’t get to try most of these settings since I mostly used the default settings for my testing. However, when scanning some old black and white photos for my father, I had to manually set it to grayscale as the auto image mode tried to scan the photos using black and white mode. During my time with the scanner, I found it to be reliable and fast (I was able to scan about 133 documents consisting of 47 receipts and and 86 black and white photos in a little over 1 hour) and the output quality was excellent. It was able to easily handle long receipts with ease. My other portable scanner would stop scanning and act like there was a jam or something when scanning long receipts. The Epson WorkForce ES-50 never had any trouble with super long receipts. The only drawback that I experienced was the feeding mechanism tended to have a little bit more trouble keeping the document straight during the scan compared to my other portable scanner. But this wasn’t a real problem because the document skewing would auto correct any problems and the final image looked okay. I can recommend this scanner for anyone needing a portable scanner to quickly and reliably scan receipts, photographs or other documents. It makes any scanning jobs fast and fun.

I just received my scanner about a week ago. I haven't used this kind of scanner before. I have only used the big office kind that are a little more confusing. Once I received my scanner in the mail it only took a few minutes to set up and start scanning. The packaging was great and the scanner was secure during delivery. It came with all the information I needed and the powering cord. I hooked the scanner to my laptop first. It was super easy and only took a few minutes to start scanning. I first tried scanning normal paper. It worked perfect. Second I tried out pictures. I was very surprised on how great it worked. The pictures saved to my laptop so nicely. The third thing I wanted to check was scanning license and credit cards. To my surprise it scanned them as good as the rest. This scanner is going to make my job so much easier. It's small and portable. I will be able to put it right in my work bag and take it to the office with me. It's so slim and won't take up any room at all. I'm very happy with this scanner. I already told co-workers about it.This is a review for the Epson WorkForce ES-50 Portable Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.”

Given I travel for business, I occasionally need to record business travel related expenses and provide them for expense reporting purposes. On my last project, I used the Epson ES-50 to scan in and submit taxi receipts and other travel related receipts. The Epson ES-50 was easy to setup via a simple software download. The next simple step was to connect the Epson ES-50 via USB cable. Once connected the Epson scanner was easy to customize as far as DPI scan settings and other basic options. The scan quality was sufficiently detailed, including color scanning, and was completed in an expeditious manner. You simply initiate scanning by pressing the scan button on the top right of the Epson scanner. As a test, I scanned in a variety of documents to test the scanner's ability to handle and properly scan documents of various thickness, texture, etc. The thin flimsy grocery store and restaurant receipts scanned perfectly with no "feeding" issues. As a test, I scanned in various thick stock paper flyers I received in the snail mail. Once again the Epson ES-50 scanned in the flyers with no "feeding" issues; capturing the document image properly. Overall, the Epson ES-50 is a perfect portable scanner for light scanning use. The Epson ES-50's need for only USB power to operate is immensely convenient. In addition, the Epson ES-50's small size, as shown on the picture, makes it convenient to transport and situate within a work space.

I travel quite a bit for my job, which means I have expenses and receipts to deal with. Additionally, we like keeping track of spending, and bills at home. I already have a home office printer/scanner with a document feeder on it, as well as a photo quality flatbed scanner. That said, this little scanner has it's own place in my arsenal, and should be quite useful. In the box is a pair of quickstart guides to get you going in several languages, a micro-USB cable to get connected, a calibration sheet, and the scanner. Getting setup with the guide takes about 5-10 minutes, and that includes installation of the drivers and software. Setup also includes a test scan, and after that you are good to go. Scanning is quick and quiet, with the only real noise being paper moving through and over the rollers. Though it's fast, it produces a decent quality image. I wouldn't use this for scanning in photos or high DPI images, since it doesn't support high DPI, but for receipts, bills, and other similar documents, it does a fine job. The footprint while doing so is also small, as the length is just shy of the length of a sheet of letter paper. Depth and thickness are also low, in the 2-2.5" range, so it doesn't take up much space. When operating, you just need to keep the area behind it clear, as the sheet feeds from the front through the back. The OCR software works well, but does take some time to let run, especially when compared to a simple scan. However, I found it accurate and useful for several documents I scanned in. I also like that I can plug it in, insert a document or receipt, and press the button to scan on the scanner itself, and it will launch the software and scan. I have had other portable scanners that required me to launch the software first, and that gets annoying after some time. It's lighter than a typical laptop battery, and about the same as a laptop charger. They manage to keep it so light by building the body out of plastic, which is great, but does create the single concern I have about it: body flex. Because I travel, something like this gets tossed into my laptop bag. It has it's own "space" in the bag, but it's not surrounded by a rigid shell or protector. Once all my items are in the bag, there is a good chance something could press on this. When you squeeze the top to bottom in the middle, it flexes quite a bit, and that has me question the longevity of it. It might be that it flexes just enough to give and not be brittle, instead of flexing just enough to break. I haven't had any damage or broken parts, yet, but it is something worth noting as a concern. Overall, however, I like it. I wish I got the model with the WiFi built in, as that would be a great option for getting scans wirelessly to my phone or laptop when I am on business trips, but I also don't know how much I would use that feature. Because of that, I think this is a great portable scanner for my needs.
