I’ve been looking to replace my front deadbolt with a smart lock, but I wanted one that provided video and a way to see who was on the outside. Our front door doesn’t have a peephole like most, instead it has some windows at the top, but unfortunately, we’re too short to see out them. So, when I saw the Eufy FamiLock S3 Max had a video camera with large screen on the inside, I had to pick one up to try it out. Pros: - Easy install, fits most standard doors. - Large internal screen. - Dual battery system. - No Fee & local storage only. Cons: - Installation video is one video, if you miss a step you will have to go back in the video. - App can be a laggy when registering palms. Setup: Installation of the Eufy FamiLock S3 Max was straight forward and simple. Just remove the old deadbolt, adjust the center of the deadbolt pin with the hole for the lock, slide on the outside keypad, then slide on the backplate and screw into the keyboard. Be mindful of the cables, as the screen on the inside only has just enough wiggle room to attach the cables and align for screwing onto the backplate. Installation took about 30mins, most of that time was spent pausing and backtracking the install video. I wish the installation video was split into steps that you could proceed at your own pace. This is partially my own fault due to my phone lock screen settings. I would watch the video, pause, then do the step, then must unlock my phone, the video would start again, and I would miss the details on that next step. So, I’d have to backtrack in the video, wait till the part I missed came up, then rinse and repeat. It was only a minor annoyance but would be solved by splitting the instruction video up by steps…. Or by removing my screen lock timeout. Once you have everything setup, you can proceed with the app setup steps to connect and configure your FamiLock S3 Max. One of the first steps is calibrating the lock, which ensures the lock mechanism is aligned and able to close the door. Software: The Eufy App is just as easy to use from setting up the Eufy FamiLock S3 Max to adjusting the video settings. The app is exactly what I wanted, simple and straightforward. From the home tab you can easily see the current feed or last event from your device, select it and navigate to the settings for that device. The FamiLock S3 Max comes with many different features from Auto Lock to Quick Responses to Loitering Detection. I really enjoy all the features but what blew me away was that the default settings all made sense and seemed like someone thought about what would be best for the user, me, when setting up the default settings. I only adjusted the distance for detection and moved the center of the video on the internal screen, but the rest of the settings all made sense to leave as is initially. I’ll for sure adjust them if I find any being an issue, but I don’t see a reason to right now. The only issue I’ve had with the Eufy App so far has been the occasional hang up or lag, where the app becomes unresponsive for a duration. This is easily fixed by closing the app and reopening. I hope a future update fixes the issue, but for now it’s not an issue but just an annoyance occasionally. Service & Data Security: Eufy doesn’t require a service fee at access all the features on the smart lock, like video recordings and smart features. These all come with the device, though if you want cloud backup you can pay a monthly fee. One of my favorite details is the data security of the information collected by the Eufy devices. All the data collected such as your palm scan or video recordings are stored locally on the device by default. If you have a HomeBase3 or Chime device, the video recordings will be stored on those devices while all bio metrics are only stored on the device. This additional scrutiny of data storage controls really set Eufy apart from many other options for smart doorbells/locks. User Registration: You have 2 ways to share access to your smart lock with Eufy. To register new users through your app, navigate to the Manage Access for the FamiLock S3 Max in the app. Select Add Access at the bottom, give the access a Name and Pin Code at minimum. You can add Palm Scan for the Left and Right hands if you wish to. Alternatively, you can share your Device with a family or friend who have the Eufy app. They will need to have the App and an existing account to have access via their own device. You can decide to add them as an Admin or Guest, with Guest only having access to view the device. Palm Scan: The Palm Scan was simple, just setup a normal User Access, set the Name and Pin Code, then add the Left- or Right-hand palm scan (you can add both if you want). You must hold your hand about 4in away from the sensor while it scans, but the biggest thing is you need to do this while the door is closed and locked. SO, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE KEY OR CODE WITH YOU TO OPEN IT! Or get locked out if the scan doesn’t work. I didn’t have an issue, but did have a good laugh about the warning in the app about getting locked out. Video Doorbell: One of the main reasons I picked out the FamiLock S3 Max was for the large screen on the inside, being able to easily see who is on the other side of the door is a major improvement. Most of the time the screen is off but can easily be turned on with a push of the button below the screen. Which is super helpful for those without the app. Additionally, as mentioned above, you can adjust the focus of the screen to the full fisheye view or zoomed into where someone would stand. This is a huge plus, as about half of the view is our side wall, so being able to move the focus of the screen over gives a view behind to the street, which helps with security. The screen on the back of the door beats stepping up on a stepstool to be able to see out the door windows any day. I’ve yet to have anyone ring the door when we’re not home, so I cannot comment on how well the ringer can hear me, but I’ve been able to trigger the quick responses by standing by the door and they are quite clear. All the video recordings are easy to hear and see what is happening, without any major distortion. Dual Power Supply: The main battery is removeable and rechargeable via a USB-C plug with a backup power supply from 4 AAA Batteries. This dual power supply allows the FamiLock S3 Max to still provide functionality even while the main battery is being charged. Recharging can take from 8 to 10 hours depending on the speed of the charger, with a single full charge lasting roughly 6 months according to Eufy. We’ll see after 6 months go by. Conclusion: If you want a smart lock with all the features, and no subscription, Eufy has you covered with the FamiLock S3 Max! Video Recording and Remote calls without any of the subscription’s fees, while also storing all your data locally on the device for added comfort. Install is simple and straightforward, just like the app. Overall, I’ll be adding the Eufy FamiLock S3 Max to my list of recommendations for smart lock upgrades.

Eufy products seem to get better and better each year. This deadbolt has so many features that make it stand out from the rest. I already had the Eufy app setup on my phone so setup was very simple. Instillation into my door was also a breeze and took about 10 minutes. Just ready all the instructions and follow the guide in the app. Once installed in the door you also have to do the calibration which took a minute or two. What I love about this deadbolt replacement is that you have four different ways to unlock your door. You can use your palm, number code, app, and even a physical key. Since this is my only door into my house, I didn't want to forgo a key because technology breaks or can have issues and I want to be able to get inside my home no matter what. The keyhole is hidden behind the doorbell button, so it is nicely hidden but there if you need it. I thought the Palm reader would be finicky or just not work well, and thankfully I was wrong. Every time I place my palm towards the reader it unlocks with no issues. We currently have lots of construction happening around us and even when the palm sensor is coated with dirt, it still works with no issue! They key code and app also work great, but the having the palm sensor just makes using the unlock function so much easier. I opted not to have the door auto lock since it's so easy to just push the button on the keypad to lock when needed. You can also unlock or lock via the app, and the app shows the status of the door. The camera works great and shows pretty much my whole front porch area. I wish It had a downward facing camera like their doorbells to keep an eye on packages. The battery life has been great as well and much better than the doorbell we had. I believe that since the battery is now inside the house, the extreme temps are no longer an issue for the battery. There is also four double A batteries inside for backup, and even a USB C plug on the outside to provide power if the system goes totally dead and you need to get it power to open your door. If you have the physical key power is not needed, but its nice that they provide this additional feature. The built-in screen is easy to view and provides good clarity. The screen is not really needed for me as my door has windows at the top so anyone can really see in or out. However, this would be great for kids who might not be able to see out the window and can view on the screen who is outside. One thing I think that is missing is a onetime passcode. My old keypad lock had codes you could generate for onetime use. This was great for letting in a neighbor, repair person, etc and you are not home. They could enter the code get let in and then the code would expire, and they would no longer have access. I did not see a way to do this in the Eufy app, and I think it would be a great feature to incorporate into future updates. I really love that eufy didn't just great a keypad/palm reader to open the door but also incorporated a physical lock. I'm old school and like the option to just open the door with a key if all else fails, and many keypad locks skip out on this option. It seems like Eufy put a lot of thought into this door lock and incorporated everything a person could need/want. If I had a second outside door, I would get another one in a heartbeat as it works so well.

I really like Eufy Home products for their ease of use, privacy/security, and interoperability. This door lock camera fits into my system nicely. Pros: simple setup, integration, reliable, battery. Cons: camera position. For a long time, cameras have been integrated with doorbells. This takes the integration a step further and includes the doorbell and camera right on the door along with a deadbolt lock. All the tech your front door needs in one device! That means I simply have one place to go to get notifications about who’s at the door, see an image, and let them in. The only downside I’ve experienced is that since the wide-angle camera is on the door just above the lock, about a third of the image just shows my door frame (at least on my door). To compensate for this, Eufy lets you adjust what part of the image is shown on the built-in screen inside the door. For some reason, though, they don’t let you change the default view from the app. So I’m stuck seeing a uselessly-wide view in the app unless I manually zoom in each time I load the video feed. Setup was a breeze. I was upgrading from a smart lock without a camera, and this one was easier to install than the old one I had. The app made setup easy, explaining each step. Somehow the Eufy lock is able to sense whether the door is open or closed (and automatically lock when it is closed) without any special hardware in the door frame. It’s like magic, although it does sometimes lock when the door is left open. One part of the setup was a little bit frustrating, though. I wanted to connect it to my Eufy Homebase (to record video in my home), and I also wanted to connect it via Matter to my Apple Home system to include it in automations. After a couple tries, I learned that I had to connect to Apple Home first (which requires connecting to WiFi in my setup) and then to the Homebase second. Even though everything is on the same WiFi network, it wasn’t able to join the Apple Home if it was already connected to Homebase. Not a big deal, just a quirky thing that I didn’t see mentioned in the documentation. The palm print scanner seems to work very well. I can’t speak to security (will it read a false positive if a stranger tries to scan their hand? I have no idea), but adding a handprint is very easy, and scanning happens quickly and without a lot of careful positioning. Compared to a fingerprint scanner I’ve used in the past, this scanner is fast and reliable. Usually the scanner will wake up and scan my hand within a second of holding out my hand, although occasionally I’ve had to tap the keypad to wake it up before scanning. I love that this has a rechargeable main battery as well as a backup battery (AAA cells). Unlike other devices I’ve seen, I don’t have to pull it out of commission to charge it regularly. And, based on my moderate use, it seems like the main battery will last at least a couple months before it needs to be charged. Right now the camera recorded about 160 events (and probably 50 unlock/lock cycles), and the battery has dropped 11%. There are several options for the doorbell, including a built-in chime, chime through Homebase, notification, and external chime. This makes it super easy to use in a variety of situations. It can also respond to visitors automatically with prerecorded messages under specified circumstances. It is really easy to add multiple users, one-time codes, or schedules for access. Overall, probably the best smart product for my door that I’ve tried. There’s room for improvement around the edges, but I highly recommend it as it is.

This new Eufy smart lock is a great addition to my home, you get a stylish smart deadbolt with a palm vein unlocking feature , a doorbell, a 2K head to toe camera and an interior display. For the most part I love all the features included on this smart lock, like unlocking the door with my palm, rear lock video screen, auto-lock, touchscreen numeric keypad, AI-powered protection that identify loiters near your door, night vision, rechargeable battery with a 4 AAA backup batteries ( included), USB-C and physical key for emergency backup in case of power outages and the smart lock is weather proof with an IP65 rating. Easy to install, took me about 25 minutes, as long as you have the right measurements on your door, this smart lock will be perfect, just install the smart lock, insert the batteries and set it up with the Eufy app. This smart lock doesn’t come with a chime for the inside of your home , but you can set up a chime sound on the Alexa app, other than that this smart lock comes with integrated speakers, seems loud enough. The whole system seems pretty cool, specially the power duo of a rechargeable 15,000mAh battery and a 4 AAA battery, works with Matter, Apple Home, Alexa and , Samsung SmartThings Goggle Home. Motion sensors works well and the camera 2K ultra HD resolution with a 180° HDR looks crystal clear , however the night vision is not as I was expecting, by lacking a spotlight, you only get a B&W view, I also noticed that the inside panel material is a bit thin, hopefully it doesn’t break when changing batteries or charging the battery included, other than that this is a great smart lock.

    Better Than Fingerprint Locks

📦 UNBOXING: Inside the box of the Familock S3 Max, you’ll find the deadbolt and mounting hardware, the indoor portion of the device with a display, rechargeable battery and backup alkaline AAA batteries (included), and the outdoor portion of the device with palm vein recognition, video doorbell, pin pad and physical key entry. All the necessary screws, strike plate and batteries are thankfully included—you’ll only need to have your own screwdriver for installation. There’s also a quick start guide, but there is also a QR code that links to the support page, and a QR code that links to the mobile app which you’ll need to perform the setup. 💪 BUILD: While the build won’t resist a sledgehammer, it will withstand rain and dust with its IP65 rating. Additionally, it’ll be able to handle temperatures between -22°F to 158°F, which should be sufficient for the vast majority of homes. As far as subjective feeling goes, it feels well-constructed and I appreciate that there’s a rubber pad on the part that touches the door, so you won’t leave any scratches or scuffs against your door during installation. The deadbolt also feels easy to turn with low friction, but there’s also a button you can press from the indoor unit to lock or unlock the door which could be more helpful for younger children. The display is also large, bright and crisp, so it will be easy to see who is on the other side of the door. This is especially useful for children to see who is at the door, since they may not have access to the smartphone apps or be tall enough to look through a peephole. Moreover, sometimes you may have guests staying with you who will want to check who is at the door before opening, and this gives them the power to do so without needing to download the Eufy Security app. Behind the doorbell button is also the physical keyhole which you can use as a backup should the system ever fail to work, and a USB-C port for providing emergency power via battery bank if you don’t have your physical key but still need to get access. With that said, it’s pretty unlikely that you’ll need to use this USB-C port since there is the removable USB-C battery pack and 4x AAA battery backup solution that you can use while your USB-C battery is charging or depleted. 🛠️ SETUP: Setup is consistent with other Eufy deadbolts. You can perform the assembly by following the instructions via the eufy Security app. Once you’ve disassembled and removed your previous deadbolt assembly, it takes maybe 15 minutes to install the new system. Connecting with the app is easy, and registering your palm vein was pretty seamless after watching the video tutorial in the app. One notable detail is that it supports WiFi 6, but seemingly only the 2.4GHz WiFi band, so you’ll want to make sure you connect to a compatible network. After the first setup, there was a firmware update out of the box that took < 15 minutes. 🖐️ PALM VEIN RECOGNITION: I registered both my left and right palm, and thus far, my main impression is that recognition is significantly more successful than the fingerprint sensor version of the Eufy deadbolt I was using before. With fingerprint sensors, I found that it would not always match with my registered fingerprint, and you needed to put the correct part of your fingerprint on the sensor. While these systems would more often work, it also felt like the system trained me to hold my finger just the right way. Meanwhile, this palm vein recognition seems to light up as soon as I’m in close proximity to the lock, and once I hold my palm roughly 4 inches above the sensor, the door unlocks without much effort. I was honestly pretty skeptical how good this system would be, but it has been significantly more accurate at detecting my palm veins than fingerprint sensors have been at detecting my fingerprint. The palm vein recognition is never used to lock the home—so you don’t have to worry about accidentally locking the door again right after you’ve unlocked it (something I’ve experienced with the fingerprint sensor model). To lock the door behind you from the outside, simply press the shield logo on the pin pad. And from the inside, you can also press a button to lock or unlock the door, in addition to manually turning the deadbolt. So from that perspective, I am very happy with its unlocking capabilities. And dirty hands won’t cause failures since it uses near infrared light to scan the vein patterns in your palm. From my research, it seems that vein patterns are significantly more unique than fingerprints, so it should be much less likely that even an identical twin who has the same fingerprint would have the same vein patterns. You can register up to 50 palm veins on the system, and it’s never uploaded to the cloud. I’ve read online that some folks claim the palm vein system to be slower to unlock, but in my experience, even if that is true, the fact that I don’t have to fumble like I do with a fingerprint sensor means that on average, it will be faster for me. One disadvantage to this system is that you won’t be able to use palm vein recognition to unlock it while wearing gloves, so you’ll either have to use the pin pad or remove your gloves before using the palm vein recognition. Those who enjoy fingerless gloves have an advantage with the fingerprint sensor models, but there’s no equivalent workaround for this model during cold weather use. 📹 VIDEO QUALITY: Video quality is good for both streaming and recording. You’re not going to get particularly high framerate content, but with my settings configured to the highest quality, it records using the HEVC codec and delivers a 2048x2048 square resolution video at 15fps. The frame rate may be variable depending on the lighting and other settings, but for the purpose it’s serving, I think this is a good balance for its 15.5GB of internal storage. The HDR mode, while not the best implementation I’ve seen, does a decent job at preventing the sky and sun from completely blowing out the image. It does seem to create less contrast than I’d hope for, which means that sometimes it can make the footage look a little hazy or soft. But I never felt like it made someone’s face unrecognizable. Since the camera is ultra wide, one downside is that faces may not be as easy to recognize until they are closer to the camera. Another downside is that if your door frame is deep, then a sizable portion of your camera view will be obstructed. While you can crop the image for the integrated display, you cannot crop it for the streaming or recording. And to add insult to injury, if night vision is important to you, then you may find that it is rendered useless with a deep door frame because it illuminates the obstructing area and causes the rest of the image to be a silhouette. For me, I can just use a porch light, but I would like to see Eufy do more to allow these cameras to have slightly adjustable angles so that nearly half my camera view isn’t obstructed. While it would be nice if it had a microSD expandable storage onboard, one of the benefits to using the Eufy Security system is that you can use one of their HomeBase 3 units to add expandable storage and also centralize the recording events across your other Eufy Security cameras. Not to mention the additional AI features you can get by adding a HomeBase 3 like facial recognition, vehicle detection and pet detection. 📱 APP: The app allows you to register 4-8 digit passcodes for members of your household or guests, and even put access on a schedule for each passcode. It also has Wrong-Try Protection to prevent someone from entering the wrong passcode too many times, and Scramble mode which allows you to enter a few random digits before entering your actual code in case someone is looking over your shoulder. But in the grand scheme of things, the most important part of this app which I’ve been using for 5 years now is that it allows a seamless streaming experience of your video doorbell, easy configuration and software updates, and push notifications whenever there’s action at the door. I like that I can review the history of events from within the app, and add family members to the household so that they can manage, view and control the doorbell. Additionally, you can connect with other ecosystems like Apple Home or Google Home using Matter. However, it seems that the lock is the only element that integrates with Matter. So you won’t be able to integrate your video camera into these other ecosystems. 🤔 CONCLUSION: Overall, I like the Familock S3 Max. It does what I need, unlocks more reliably than fingerprint sensors, and it does it stylishly. However, I do think some improvements could be made to make the camera view a bit more forgiving for those with deeper door frames, as nearly half of my view is blocked by my door frame, and night vision is subsequently rendered unusable. For those without a deeper door frame, there really isn’t much to complain about. But for those of us with deeper frames, it feels like a bit of a missed opportunity for innovation from Eufy. But I feel the vast majority of owners of this new platform will be satisfied with the results.

Eufy has done it again. Another great product under their belt offering superior security that makes it easier for just about anyone to use. I was excited to see this product because it offers us another way to easily access and secure our home. I won’t pretend that I didn’t have my concerns with the palm biometrics. Especially with the world turning to learning more about us and using our biometric information for or in ways we did not intend. But with my years of being a part of the Eufy nation, they have never made me feel uncomfortable, as I’ve experienced more breaches with our US banking system than with them concerning my security. We replaced our old unit (not Eufy) that used fingerprint access along with a code and key if necessary. Although, it’s a competitor, It was much slower than this unit and I couldn’t count on its battery to save my life. Every month we had to charge it. It seemed like 2x a month in reality some months. We already have a Eufy camera door lock on our front door and we only have to charge the battery maybe every 3 or so months. So again, having this unit on our other door is great. The battery in this unit has back up AA batteries for when you are charging the main rechargeable battery, it can still work to allow you into your space. I buckled and decided to go for the palm unit because my mom and husband would have issues getting into our home. My mom would get increasingly frustrated trying to use the fingerprint access. And my husband just stopped using it and would manually press the access code to enter. I thought this unit would be perfect for them both. And seeing that I’m a gardener my hands would always be dirty and this alleviated me having to access the door with dirty fingers. Well, it was even quicker than the fingerprint access. It’s super simple to set up and get going. It recognizes your unique palm id faster than you can blink twice. My mom hasn’t had any problems using this since. My husband has had issues with it however, but as we’ve been using it for several weeks, it’s been evident that it’s user error as it works flawlessly for him when palm is placed correctly. You can’t hold your palm super close or too far from the sensor. I haven’t had one issue. The interior side of the unit offers a screen in which you can look to see who is on the opposite side of the door before answering and it’s a great feature if needed. You can set a wide view or a more direct view. It sees in the darkest spaces as ours is located on the garage door and I can clearly see what’s hiding in there in the pitch dark. The color is bright and clear. There’s also a button that can be used to quick lock/unlock the door from inside. So if you’re feeling extra lazy you can click that instead of simply turning the lock. If you’re familiar with these camera locks, then the outside of this lock is not really any different. You are still offered the access of using a key if desired or if both batteries aren’t working. You can still use a backup battery to charge from the exterior and you can just input your access code to gain entry, if the palm recognition fails. The notifications are pretty spot on. They are recognized pretty much instantly and is delivered to your phone based on your settings. Each person can be designated their own access and you can even give temporary access to certain people. The app is super intuitive and gives you control over many aspects of the unit. Set up from installing to setting up the features that best suite my family took no longer the 20 mins. I recommend this and frankly many of eufy products for your self home security.

    Eufy impresses once again

What a great device to have! I’ve recently upgraded from another 3rd party fingerprint scanner-deadbolt, and this has been a joy to transition to. I’m also a fan of Eufy as I have a few of their cameras installed throughout my home and am usually excited for Eufy to release a new product, this being no exception. Setup was pretty simple for my door, took only 20 minutes to install for me. My fingerprint scanner was great initially, but issues began to occur. First when it was raining the wet fingers and scanners cause problems. You had to do your best to get a dry finger on a semi dry scanner as its raining. Next, it was touchscreen which allowed you to use pin codes to open the door as an alternative option, but with time most touch screens go bad especially when they sit in the sun for hours every day, so we had eventually lost functionality of that. The Palm Scanner is fast and very convenient. Let me explain… I was a bit skeptical of the palm scanner as its supposed to read your veins to determine your identity, and I haven’t seen any technology use this yet, but so far it seems to be accurate and very fast! We have our kids (small hands) use it as well with no issues. Its great, it even senses you walking up to the door and will activate the scanner without you having to do anything. The keypad is not like a touch screen, but more physical or built-in so there shouldn’t be any issues with it fading or going out. Managing access is easy and can be done anywhere, including locking and unlocking the door, providing one-time, scheduled, or just plain anytime access. A few features that stick out to me are Scramble protection, which allow you to enter random numbers before or after your passcode to gain entry, and Wrong Try Protection which disables electronic entry if your threshold of attempts is passed for a set amount of time by you, up to 5 min. Both of these are optional features. You can also enable/disable notifications based on the following activities: - Motion detection - Doorbell Ring - Door locking - Door unlocking Love the granular options for this. We have kids, so we only have Doorbell Ring notification enabled, but great for people wanting to keep tabs of who and when people are coming in. For Eufy owners already, its simplified using the same app to manage all your devices. I own a Homebase, and one of my issues with linking this to my Homebase is that if I do this, “Local recordings cannot be accessed in the app once connect to Homebase”. If I can’t access recordings, not sure what the benefits of linking it to Homebase is then? I also wish the auto-lock feature would be disabled when the door was opened, and the time limit could be greater than 3 minutes. Simple software updates could fix most of these issues which I’m hoping for. The only time we had issues getting in is when my wife was in the yard pulling weeds and had dirty hands, then the scanner didn’t work (as expected). Bottom-line…I’m impressed with it, works fantastic, and has customizable options to fit your personal needs.

eufy - FamiLock S3 Max Smartlock

I was excited to replace my current smart lock with the new eufy FamiLock S3 Max. I was having problems with my existing lock's battery life and was most excited that the eufy comes with a rechargeable battery. I was previously wasting a lot of batteries changing them out. The installation was very simple and straight forward. the eufy app walked through all of the steps clearly and there was even a video to watch to make it even more clear. I had no problems with the installation. Setup using the eufy app was also easy. I chose to first setup via the app and then link to my Google Home app vs using matter. I find using matter, while convenient, doesn't offer every feature the native app does. Keeping this in both gave me all of the functionality eufy had to offer. The initial charge of the replacement battery took about 8 hours. eufy was specific on the type of charger to use, so I made sure mine met that requirement. I enabled most of the default settings, camera record on motion, I setup the hand scanner which went perfectly, and I also setup a keycode. I used the lock off and on for the first two days, at which point, the battery was already complaining it needed charging. I don't have a lot of activity in the area I place this, which is the door to my garage. So this only captures events when they happen in the garage, which is minimal. Initially devastated as battery life was a #1 concern for me, I re-charged it and adjusted the settings to be battery optimized. This limits my video recording, which is ok for my needs. I also ran firmware updates and removed the camera from Google Home and just left the lock. I suspect perhaps Google Home was triggering the camera on all of the time. Since I care about battery the most, I did leave the optimized settings enabled. After a week, I can say the battery life has still been great, only 1 bar is removed and it looks to have plenty of juice to keep going for a few months. The keypad, and app work great. I enjoy clicking the button on the back of the lock to view the garage without having to open the door, this allows me to check that i closed the garage door without actually opening the door, which drives my dogs nuts, so this is very nice for me. The video quality is fantastic, the doorbell feature is also nice if you have this on a front door, or want to consolidate devices into one. I've had no issues unlocking the door. They keypad, hand scanner, or app work every time without fail. I enjoy having multiple options to unlock the door. eufy seems to have thought of everything with this lock and it is sure to satisfy most users needs. I would recommend this lock to anyone looking for all of the features this has to offer in a single device.

    Game Changer

Having a single unit as my door camera and smart lock is a game changer. The palm reader is pretty good. There’s only been a couple times it didn’t read on the first try. Mostly I think I was too close. Set up and installation is pretty simple. The wire management is much easier than my old keypad lock. The only thing that I would sing is that the inside plate doesn’t quite sit flush with the door. It could also be my door. Oddly the face plate is flush when the rechargeable battery is out but when it’s in, it’s not as flush. Everyone’s review of the camera showing a lot of the door frame is true. Just happens because of the design of the unit. I like it that I don’t need a subscription to use. I do have the HomeBase to add some additional storage. It is a little on the pricier side but worth it considering there isn’t any additional cost to use.

    The future of smart locks

This is a different but a needed combo. eufy decided to combine a smart lock and video doorbell to create the FamiLock S3 Max. I was very excited to try it out. eufy have a guide online that helps you determine if your door will be a fit for the FamiLock. I was debating whether I should install it in my back door or my front door. At the end I went with the back door because I thought it was good to have a doorbell in the back. I do think for most people it will work best to have it installed on your front door because of foot traffic and deliveries. Instructions time shows 15 minutes and I think it’s about accurate. Everything was packed neatly in the box and the hardware ziplock bags were all labeled with what it’s for. The instructions book had a QR code which took me to a YouTube installation video. I recommend it because it made the process much easier. If you want to get a jumpstart on your install charge the battery before you start. It has enough power to get you through the install but it will be 50 percent charge from the factory. I find it took a long time to get it fully charged, about 5 hours even though it was already 50%. I’m already a eufy user so I already had the app downloaded and I simply added the FamiLock S3 Max by scanning a QR code inside the lock by the battery. I followed the prompts and connected to my WiFi. There is a calibration prompt that I think it’s important to do so you know the lock is secure. So the fun part is the palm vein reader. In the app you can give access to palms. I gave both of my hands access for convenience. It took seconds and I was good to go. Now I can open the door by placing my open hand a few inches above the top of the lock. I will eventually add more trusted people to have access but right now I can always unlock the door after I verify someone on the camera when I’m away from home. Knowing that this FamiLock S3 Max was coming I did decide to add the homebase and so far they work great together. I expanded the memory to 500GB and it is plenty of memory for the camera footages. I can now filter the footages with familiar faces and strangers which is nice. The FamiLock S3 Max is reasonably priced because it is a camera, doorbell, onboard screen for seeing outside, smart lock and a palm vein scanner all in one. It is crisp at a 2k HD camera with night vision. It should be able to install on most doors but to be sure I recommend checking on eufy’s website before purchasing. Eufy is covering every category and creating an easy to use ecosystem of products that will help just about everyone. I opted to disable the auto lock feature because when I open the door to let my dog out it automatically locks. I believe that by disabling it will help me save the battery life.

I’ve been using the Eufy FamiLock S3 Max for a bit now, and I honestly love it. It was easy to set up, and the app makes it so convenient to lock or unlock the door from my phone. The palm scanner works great, and no more digging for keys! The video quality is super clear, and I like being able to see who’s at the door right away. It looks nice on the door too. Overall, I’m really happy with this purchase!

Bought this to replace an older Lockly system. I will say I am impressed with this lock. The ability to use the palm to unlock the lock is game changing. We couldn't register my grandson on one using the fingerprint reader but had no issue doing his palm on this lock. I love the ability to recharge the battery with the battery backup. I only get about half use on my camera due to how far back my door sets but I knew that going in. Install was super easy.

I have had previous version, and let me say this new version is amazingly sophisticated. Practically touchless smart lock with longer battery, resolution on the camera is great, crystal clear view. Happy with the brand.

I really like this system and love Eufy products. The only reason I’m giving this 4 stars is because the one thing I wish this product had is the extra camera on the bottom to view packages. I have the other dual camera doorbell system and that one can notify me about packages. This one does not have that feature, but it has all the other awesome features.
