Awesome not prime lens for portraits. It’s lightweight, but overall quality is great. Images sharp and nice. This lens made me want to buy more of Sony lenses in a future.

I was unsure about this prime, main concern was being stuck at a 80mm focal length that I then thought would be doomed to just portraits. After owning it for a couple weeks it's much more than that, have surprisingly taken great landscape shots with some creativity. With that being said, what it's mostly used for it dominates. The bokeh is amazing and performs well in low light. It was either this or a 50mm and I'm glad I went 80mm.

So far so good.. buy it, it’s sharp, light and great for low light. Nice focal length if you don’t want to shoot with a heavy 70-200mm.

This lens is hands down the best lens for the money on the system. It has excellent bokeh and is tack sharp. It's the perfect focal length for portrait photography giving good background compression. This and the 35mm 1.8 and you have the perfect complement to your a7. Until I move up to the G Masters, this will be my go to!

I bought this lens a while back. My verdict is I am happy with this lens. Results are more than acceptable. It was within my price range. Surprisingly I love this lens. It took some time to adjust and learn the lens as I typically use lenses between 20 - 55. The picture uploaded was cropped and cleaned up noise only.

One of the best lenses that Sony makes that isn't in the G-Master class. This thing is TACK sharp, & FAST when put in the proper situations, especially with portraits with the 1.8 aperture. If you're looking for a great, simple, versatile lens that won't break the bank, THIS IS IT.

What can I say? This is hands down the best of the best when it comes to “budget full-frame lenses”. This lens has 100% professional grade optics, Sony is just literally flexing with their extreme attention to quality whilst choosing the elements and their orientation when designing this budget lens. The 85mm to me, is a must have focal length in any kit for both video and photos..if you love super fast autofocus, tack sharp pixels, and most importantly the creamiest, buttery bokeh you can find on a sub $600 lens... Well then you my friend, Need to stop searching and SLAM that ever so attractive and devilishly shy, school bus yellow “Add to Cart” button and thank me later when you get compliments left and right on your workflow and how beautifully the ultra compressed depth of field that you managed to capture looks... This is a very sharp lens, even wide open - although, there is vignetting along the corners, and uncontrolled purple fringing with extremely high contrast scenarios (like using the sun as backlight). To fix these problems, though, you can stop it down to around f/4.0 or higher depending on the severity. In terms of performance, the autofocus is very snappy. It locks onto the eye with ease and a surprising level of accuracy — in some instances, better than the GM 85mm that I rented (it’s also sharper, too). It’s also silent when focusing. Because of the focal length, the background blur makes for a wonderful picture. I use the lens touring outdoor portrait shoots of animals and people. Its focus/hit ratio is about 19/20 for me personally. Build quality is decent. It’s much lighter than I had expected it to be. It also even distributes the weight when attached to my A7rIV. A great “budget” lens that doesn’t sacrifice quality for a low cost.

The 85mm f1.8 is a must-have for the a7 iii Sony. I'm super impressed with the clarity and sharpness of this lens. Super smooth bokeh, weather / dust sealed, and @ the sale price of $549, you kind of can't beat it. I'm super happy. BestBuy / Montrose was a big help. Their full service camera department is the best!

This lens is perfect for portraits! I got it to supplement my wide angle and it pretty much lives on the body at this point. I love it!

Yes. “For the price” I’m well aware there are better options out there but if you’re looking for a creamy backroad at 1.8 and a decent focal length at 85mm then this lens may be for you. The auto focus is quick and accurate on my a7iii and I could only assume better for better body’s! Highly suggest if it’s something you’ve been looking for.

This lens is sharp. The bokeh effect is pretty darn good. This is my favorite portrait lens so far and the price is not bad. I’m using this on my A6500.

I have it but hardly ever use it. The autofocus is terrible but am I upset I bought it no…for the price it’s about what you expect. You can get good images out of it. It’s just the autofocus is horrible it hunts all the time. If you can put up with that you’ll be fine.

I’m in love with this lens. When paired with my Sony alpha A7R III, it creates magic. As an amateur photographer who is still learning this setup is very complex but getting to learn and the photos that come out are just admirable. I will 100% recommend this lens with any of your Sony cameras if you are just starting and aspire to be professional one day.
