Alta is wonderful. Grab a bitbelt to keep it safe

My wife and I love our Alta.
Its like the flex being small however with the heads up display it gives you real time readouts without having to log into your phone like you did with the flex. Its smaller than the charge and looks really good on your wrist. We both give it two thumbs up.
Only advise I would give is to grab a bitbelt to keep it safe from becoming unclasped.

The device is nicely styled and comfortable and easy to wear. The band is really easy to remove and reinstall for cleaning or to change bands. It does a great job of sensing when I am running or cycling and logging that activity. The sand blasted finish on the sides of the device is a bit delicate - I bumped the band against an adjacent watch and it marked the sand blasted area immediately and permanently. I am hoping that they eventually will have a device that I can wear while swimming and that will track that activity automatically. This device, and the rest of the current Fitbit lineup, will not tolerate immersion in water if you want it to survive. The extra feature I really like is the way it vibrates when I get a call on my phone and the way it vibrates and shows the initial words of text messages when they are received. These minimal smart watch functions are surprisingly useful, and I never would have known this if I hadn't gotten this device. The fact that it does not have an altimeter does not create an issue for me, because I don't run stairs as a fitness activity.

Out of all the fitbits out, this one is my favorite. It is not too big or too small, it is the perfect size which makes it really easy to wear with any outfit. In terms of exercise, it makes it more fun. You can see your steps, compete against friends, and keep your goals on track. It shows you how much your sleeping even if you moved around a lot during your sleep. You can see who is calling and can even read your text messages through the fitbit screen. I absolutely love it! It charges quickly and lasts for days. You can charge while your in the shower so that you don't miss any possible steps while competing. Nothing ruins my day more than not wearing my fitbit!

Upgraded from the Flex to this unit, so far very pleased. It fits very well, and the band seems to be attached in a better way that with the Flex. Love the easy charger connection as well, no more prying the tracker out (leading to broken bands). The display is crisp and clear, and very handy for reading incoming text and caller ID.

An Upgrade From My Flex

I received my new stylish Alta for Mother's Day and I'm really liking it so far. I still have a functioning Fitbit Flex, but this Alta looks much nicer and I'm loving some of the extra features. I've never been a watch wearer, but I can flick my wrist and the time and date pop up. I've learned to rely on it already. The Alta seems to count steps pretty accurately, just not when pushing a stroller or cart, but that's the same as any Fitbit. I love receiving my text and phone alerts. Very convenient when I'm chasing my one year olds to decide whether I need to answer my phone or not. Do not submerse in water. Even for a second. I accidentally did and had to dry it out in rice for days and reboot it. The Flex definitely handles water better. This won't read your heart rate or flights of stairs like the Charge. But I really like the size, look and function of the Alta.

To set the stage, I'm not an athlete. I don't need heart rate monitoring, gps, or altitude. I just want something to motivate me to move more. And I found that in the Fitbit Alta. It has a clock function, so I don't need to wear a separate watch (yeah, I'm 'old', I want a watch on my wrist, not have to dig out my phone), which is GREAT!
The Alta tracks your steps, minutes of activity, and automatically recognizes certain exercises, such as walking, running, and some others that I haven't tried yet.
It also has this great little feature called Move Reminders. You can have it remind you to move a little every hour. It detects when you haven't taken at least 250 steps in one hour, and will remind you at 10 til the hour with these little motivation phrases. If you get up and start moving, it will come back again to congratulate you (again with cute phrases) on hitting your 250 steps. The reminder days/times can be customized so it isn't bugging you a 10pm when you're getting ready for bed.
They say the Alta isn't necessarily waterproof, but the manual says it can handle the occasional splashes from whatever you may be doing. Sounds like they just don't advise you immersing it. Water resistance was a must for me.
I also like that Fitbit ties in with several nutrition apps, such as My Fitness Pal, to automatically enter in your exercise for the day.
So, if you're searching for an 'average persons' fitness tracker, search no further.

In an era full of smartwatches with tons of bells and whistles, it's refreshing that FITBIT finally released something that is richer on features without the exorbitant cost of many smartwatches but still keeping to a cleaner /simple design factor. A plus is the ability to swap out bands. Besides the fashion aspect changing bands is great because they often get ooky and I like to really disinfect and deodorize the bands on my wearables periodically. It takes a little longer to sync over the flex. Some complain about lack of a altimeter, but it's not something I miss not want. Really like the new feature that it reminds you to move every hour...

I had to initially return this because the first charger was broken out of the box, but the second one was fine. I like the ability to change bands easily, and the ability to customize the display is convenient. The biggest limitation is that it's not waterproof, so I can't wear it swimming. It will show incoming calls and texts, which is handy. Much more comfortable than the Microsoft Band, but with only about half the features. It occupies a good middle ground between a bare bones tracker and a full-fledged smartwatch.

Wanted a simple activity tracker to record steps, give reminders to walk, and display the data simply on PC or phone. The Alta does all that well. The phone and PC app is easy to use. I only need to charge it about once a week. The sleep tracking is also nice to have.
There are no external controls on it, you have to tap it or twist your wrist in a specific direction to turn on the display, then tap to run through the screens.
No manual included. Initial setup and all instructions are online.

this is a great tool for tracking steps, food, water and activities. The only thing that isn't perfect is sometimes when I double tap to view time it doesn't come up the first time or when I turn my wrist to view time, it doesn't come up. other than that it is a great product

I needed a replacement for my defective Jawbone UP2 band, and I decided to give FitBit a try. After doing some product research, I decided that FitBit Alta had the features that I wanted (monitoring steps and sleep), and I discovered that the best deal available was with Best Buy! My local Best Buy had what I wanted in its inventory, and it was offered at a very reasonable price. I am very happy with my new FitBit Alta, and it is performing exactly as well as the advertising and product reviews claim. Thanks, Best Buy!

This is my third Fitbit. I had the Charge and Blaze but eventually settle on the Alta as it is less bulky. Good design and I've always been a fan of Fitbits challenges and community with fellow Fitbit friends. Competing for steps is a great motivational tool. Battery is very good. It could last up to a week on a full charge granted you're not checking and syncing every few minutes.
Now the bad. Fitbit feels a bit cheap. For the price tag of $130, there really isn't that many features. It's a little gadget that probably costs a couple bucks to make. Alta has no HR (at least not this version) monitoring and basically only tracks steps, stairs, calories and distance although i find those to be a bit inaccurate in measurement.
Also it is water resistance but not water proof. Quite annoying to take off everytime i need to take a shower.
Still a great device to compete and stylish but overpriced in my opinion.

More than a basic counter, less than a smart watch

This is a good fitness tracker if you want something to do basic step and sleep tracking. The main reason I got the Alta was for sleep tracking since I couldn't wear my Apple watch while it charged at night. The Alta battery lasts for about 5 days. It does try to automatically log some activities, but doesn't always guess the right activity. The Alta is bulkier than the Jawbone Up 2 or 3, but adds in a small OLED screen that can show the time, current step count, text messages, etc. If it weren't for the poor durability I experienced with the Up 2, I would not have tried the Alta.
The other advantage of FitBit's among all other fitness trackers is the wider user base. This makes it more likely that you will have friends to get into step competitions with. It may sound silly, but it's a great motivator to get up and take a short walk each day to beat your friend's step count.
The main downside with FitBit is that its app doesn't sync with Apple Health, which allows synchronization of health data across many apps. FitBit also does integrate well with many other apps which have better running and activity tracking classification.

I like its sleek design, and the UI through the app is the best. The app is why I keep coming back to Fitbit. The band is great because it is changeable. I found that other bands with the bigger faces, especially with a heart monitor. gave me a rash, or fell apart too quickly and I would have to get rid of the device. Since I can wear it loose, and the band is replaceable, this will not be a problem. Fitbit finally got the band issue right!

I purchased this tracker for my fiancé to replace her Fitbit Charge that she had for a little over a year. The Charge had its perks but was problematic with the band as it fell apart quite often (she went through 3 trackers until she just gave up).
Figuring the new design would be a welcome change, she absolutely loves the Fitbit Alta. She has had zero issues so far and is drawn to its simplistic design. Although it would have been even better if it were water resistant at the least, she feels this tracker will do what it was built to do for a long time. The device has a pretty decent battery life and the new charging cable is a pleasant upgrade to the sometimes-annoying connector from the previous versions. The new "Move" alert is pretty cool, ensuring she gets mobile especially since she works in an office setting.
As of now, I feel it's rated fairly at 4 stars, but only time will tell if this tracker is worth more or less.

The Fitbit Alta tracks my steps and sleep. it's not big and bulky and give me alerts to move.
Pros: Gives me alerts to move and tracks well. plus phone alerts
Cons: not waterproof, so be careful bathing yourself or others. You don't want to do more than light hand washing.

fitbit makes great products. I like how it tracks my steps and how I can see who is calling or texting without even looking at my phone. a bonus for me is the fact you can change the bands to match with what you are wearing. I also love that the alta is not bulky at all.

The Fitbit Ulta is nice because it is not as bulky as the Charge HR, but I honestly miss the heart rate feature. However, I love that it can tell me if my phone is ringing or if I have text messages, and it still tracks my sleep, which is important to me as well.

I was hesitant to spend the money at first but I am glad that I did! I personally bout it to keep track of my steps throughout the day for my physical therapy recovery! I had a hip arthroscopy in August and it has really helped with me finding that balance of how many steps are good and how many is too many! After recovery I still plan to use the fit bit daily!

Men, Just order large no matter what size you are. I thought I would be a small but this fist perfect and has room for if I ever gain weight. I showered with it the first day I got it and it is totally fine. I played soccer with it, got super sweaty and it counted every step. I would suggest you take it off after any workout and clean it with a damp paper to get your sweaty skin off.
