Works well but leaves me wanting more from my GPS. I can't complain too much because it was given to me as a gift. Its not a bad unit and I love Garmin products, it has a very easy to use display and user inference just as all Garmins do, But there are better Garmins out there with similar prices like the 205, or 260w

This guy I can tell is underpowered for the software it runs. It does what it needs to, it just isnt the smoothest out there. Garmins are much harder to update than the Tom Toms, but Garmin has much better tech support.

Maybe We Have a Bad One?

Maybe we have purchased a 'bad' unit. For the first couple of months, we couldn't get the smile off of our faces. This unit is very easy to use, fun to follow and just amazed us every time we used it. Directions nice and clear - we drove blindly to places we had never been before - nuvi got us there! HOWEVER, the last three times we have used it, we could not rely on it. The unit kept losing the satellite signals and we had no idea where we were and no idea where to go! The most recent experience was in downtown Charlotte, NC - not fun! We are now in the process of returning it for repair and/or replacement.

For the amount it costs, it's a decent GPS. it will tellyou where you need to go, but don't expect it to call out street names. just "turn left" etc.
good size and readable.
overall a good buy

I purchased a Garmin Nuvi 200 about two weeks before Christmas 2007. Over the next few days, I tested it out. In short, I found the product to be unsatisfactory. First, while my home address could be found on the database, the unit routed me through a parking lot to reach my home. Driving through a parking lot isn’t exactly legal, but I had to admit the route did cut off about a half a mile from my trip. The second “error” wasn’t so easily dismissed. My wife and I had dinner in Bluffton, SC. After dinner, we planned to visit another city about 25 to 30 miles north. So, I entered the destination address and let the Nuvi navigate us there. We know there are at least two possible routes along numbered state and federal highways, but the Nuvi directed us through some back country roads and finally to a dead-end dirt trail. When we hit the dead end and started to turn around, the Nuvi went wild. It said “Recalculating, go 200 feet and turn left.” Then, “Turn right.” Then, “Recalculating, make a U-turn.” Then, “Turn right, turn left.” Clearly, it was about to have a nervous break down, so I turned it off. After this experience, I couldn’t trust the unit. So, I returned it to the store where I bought it. I am very disappointed with this product.

purchased this GPS unit too prematurely. Should have waited for the newer versions that actualy tell you which street name to turn on.

This thing is junk. I travel a lot for my job, and had been told how good Garmin is. I recently bought one for a trip, and got lost because of this thing the first 3 times I tried using it. Why? Because if it has any difficulty with an address, it doesn't tell you that it didn't find it, it just substitutes something similar...for example, I was looking for a location, the street was called East College Ave, but since Garmin's maps are so poor, it didn't have the street, though it acted like it did, then later changed the E to a W, and led me on a wild goose chase. Obviously, I thought I had typed it wrong, and tried again. Right before my eyes, it changed after a few seconds from East to West. I tried a 3rd time. Same result. Since I was already far far away from Best Buy, and had to still rely on this piece of junk, I did, and it either could not find my next location, or was not very accurate. I then bought a Tomtom and no longer had this problem...though, I have had others with the Tomtom.
Bottom line, you cannot depend on this thing. Also, it has barely any useful features.

I was so excited to try this gps on a long trip. I went to southern Ohio. On our trip to our destination the gps routed us by highways and major through fares. However on the return it routed us up through the mountains and tertiary routes. Because it was dark this was tough return trip!!! Inconsistant routing!!! This gps is for my girl friend and she was satisfied.
