very loud, agitator issues, shorts out
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The washer has agitator issues, and acts like the load is uneven, but even when you disburse the clothes, it still has issues. It is loud, and will ultimately blow the breaker. This washer will be returned.

Not what I expected
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I expected this GE washer to perform like the old GE washer that I replaced but I am not satisfied with the lack of water fill. Even though it has great options for washing clothes it doesn't fill up with enough water when set on the super size load option. Not enough water fills above the load to wash my clothes. Why have a super size option when not enough water fills above them to get the load clean?? The big tub is a waste.

Lasted two weeks
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This washer was great for the whole two weeks that it lasted. Then, it died. Best Buy took it away and brought me a Whirlpool. So far, so good with that one. The Best Buy installer told me that he has taken a LOT of this GE model back and he thinks that there must be a defect in the washer. If you are looking, go for something else. That is my best advice.

Unbalanced
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall the only drawback noted to date is that loads often become unbalanced and manual adjustment is required. May be due to faulty installation. Will have it checked and leveled properly. Not recommending until this is resolved.

2nd review after 1 month of use...TIPS!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upon 2nd review, there are some tips and tricks you need to know about this GE washer. This machine can be energy efficient if you want to use less water, or you can use more water like an old school washer (which is what I do). 1) You should NOT overload it with clothes. If you stuff and jam a ton of clothes in, it will not fill up with enough water to clean them right. The barrel is very large and holds a ton of clothes as is, but if you try to stuff it full, then it's not as effective with agitating and turning the clothes around. If you fill it 3/4 full, then you will still wash a ton of clothes, and wash them very well. Remember, the barrel is HUGE so 3/4 full is a bunch of clothes. 2) The best wash cycles are the WHITE cycles and the TOWELL cycle. The TOWELL cycle will agitate, then let your towels soak a few minutes to let the detergent work, then it will agitate a bunch more. Both will super agitate your clothes very, very well. The colors cycle doesn't agitate as rough. The delicates cycle even less. 3) The auto water sensor is ok, but I prefer the manual water level setting. The machine washes best with medium to medium-large loads with the water setter turn to super or large. This uses more water, and your washer basically becomes like an old school agitator washer. 4) The detergent dissolves better when you put it in FIRST and clothes on top!!! 5) Use the POWER rinse option to completely rinse your clothes like an old traditional washer did. This uses more water, but rinses the clothes from the detergent completely by refilling the tub with clean water. With the power rinse turned OFF, the clothes are rinsed with intermittent water spray then they are spun...but they still come out clean. The POWER RINSE option rinses the clothes the best though. 6) This machine DOES NOT have a locking lid. Any reviews that say so are wrong. You can lift the lid at anytime, and the wash cycle will pause. To get the washer to start with the lid open, you have to get a magnet to put on the sensor plate so the machine thinks the lid is shut. 7) This machine spins clothes very, very well. 8) This machine does not have an end of cycle buzzer...no big deal to me though. All in all a good washer. It is only energy efficient if you use the water saving features. Otherwise, it is pretty much a traditional old school washer. I like to use tons of water to clean my clothes, so makes sure you toy around with it to find the best water and wash cycles that you need.

Noisy, slow, expensive,needs special soap
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted a washer that actually cleaned my clothes. This one needs special low suds detergent (he). The aggitator goes very slooooowly even in the fastest setting with very little water in the rinse cycle. I was told that this is the way it should be to keep the fabric intact!! Say what?? During the cycle loud thumps can be heard--changing gears? It takes forever for the wash to be done--at least 45 min. depending on the size of the load.

TERRIBLE WASHING MACHINE!!!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I though this would be a good washer. I read most of the reviews ,but not all. I should have because this machine took forever on my fist small load !! And when it spun out it was extremely loud! I thought the whole thing was go to explode! And the clothes didn't even come clean!!! DON'T BUY!!!!!!

Wow!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One of the worst experiences with an open item discount. When I got the machine home and set up, turned on, fully loaded with towels. Sounded like something died! Metal to metal scratching! It was horrible not to mention the fully soaked load of towels sitting in the washer. Maybe the new version is better but do not recommend open item washers. The store was able to take it back but definitely were not helpful getting a new set ordered. I did have to go on the website and talk to a specialist. But eventually got a new samsung set.

Very Happy With This Purchase
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm not into bells and whistles. I just wanted a good, quiet, hard-working washing machine. I have no basement, and my utility room is right off my kitchen, so I VERY MUCH appreciate the QUIET. I bought it to replace a similar, older GE model, and am very pleased with all the improvements. The only thing I wish is that it had an end-of-cycle signal. You can use the load-sensor to use less water, or you can set the size of the load as desired. I LOVE the second rinse and extended spin feature. The second rinse completely removes detergent and the extended spin gets your clothes much dryer, thereby saving drying time in the electric dryer. I also appreciate the options, such as hand wash, gentle, jeans and the towels & sheets cycle. Also, the tub seems a bit larger than my previous heavy-duty GE washer. It's nice to have not only large, but extra-large and super load sizes. My previous machine only had small, large and super. This one has small, medium, large, extra-large and super-sized load options. My feeling is "what's not to like?" Best Buy did a price search while I was making the purchase, and saved me another $50 off the already low sale price by matching another appliance store's lower sale price. As far as I'm concerned, you can't go wrong buying this washer from Best Buy. The delivery/setup was free and was scheduled for the day following my purchase. NO, I'm not a Best Buy employee, just a very happy, satisfied customer.

i had to return it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It did not work. I had to hire an expert and he recommended me to return it. In general I had to expend extra for services and best buy couldn't find any reasonable solution, so I got my refund and bought a washer in other store.

You need to have realistic expectations
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I get a little frustrated at negative reviews when what people state as fact is actually user error. I also can't understand why people take the time to write a complaint, but don't show the same initiative to read the manual. The manual is all of about 3 pages and addresses all of the reasons why some people are having a bad experience. If they had set it up properly to begin with, they wouldn't have complained. There are bad batches of every product so some people may indeed have bad luck and their one-star reviews are legitimate. Most others however had expectations of some super-deluxe, high-tech device that could do more than a washer should. It's $500 people. What were you expecting, for it to press and fold your clothes too? For me, I have had the washer for 4 days and have run 6 loads - from 3 small items to an entire oversized basket full of towels. Every load has performed flawlessly. I can't speak to it's longevity yet, but I expect it will perform 8-10 years just like my last GE washer (HE front loader#. It's true it doesn't fill with water above the line of clothing when using the load sensor mode. That's normal and meant to save water #read the manual#. As others have said, the bypass couldn't be simpler. Just set the fill mode to a higher setting. That's all there is to it. It all spins very smoothly and quietly - especially when you add the clothes in a balanced manner in the beginning #read the manual#. If you just haphazardly dump clothes in, all to one side, of course it will be unbalanced. As for loud banging during the spin cycle, the washer comes with a shipping bar attached at the bottom, easy to see and easily removed #read the manual). Other than that, washing clothes isn't rocket science. My clothes are clean, the cycle times are reasonable, and considering it's one of the least expensive, large tub washers on the market, I keep my expectations realistic and this GE washer exceeded them.

Surprisingly a good machine for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did extensive research before replacing my 30 year old Kenmore Washing machine. This GE model is a great machine. In fact it is much quieter than my old machine. I have it two weeks now and did loads from delicate to heavy loads and everything came out great. The spin cycle is not as loud as other reviewers mentioned.... And it spins so well that drying time in the dryer has been cut down. For the price you cannot go wrong" I would have given it 5 stars but I did not want to jinx my new machine!
