    Nice Washing Machine

After reading all the reviews I was a little hesitant but decided to buy this washer. Some of the reviews mention that the washer doesn't fill with enough water but I have not found that to be true. The "precise fill" feature uses less water than what my older washer used but that's a water saving feature. When you use the other load features it uses more water. It's quite running and the big tub is great. We bought the matching dryer too.I'm happy with the purchase and sale price.

I haven't had this washer very long but have used enough to know that I think it's very sturdy and will give me a lot of clean clothes for quite some time. Yes the wash cycle can be a little longer than some but hey-I don't have a time limit when I do clothes. It has a quick wash which I haven't used but will sometime soon. I like that it cleans as efficiently with less water. Love the extended spin and drain and spin option! Clothes come out 75% already dry. And since I dont have a dryer and dry them inside or out that saves drying time or if had a dryer saves time and energy. This is a good washer with a decent amount of features and a good price and best buy delivery is also nice.

    This one works!

I do not usually write reviews, but this washer deserves a good one. It is a basic machine, which is what I wanted. I only wash an average of two medium loads per week. The last machine I had was computer based, washed very poorly, cost more than twice as much, and had a short life (less than 8 years). I have used this machine for a year now and recommend it because of the Hydrowave design. It washes much like a human would, in pulses, and does not beat your cloths up. I have never had a washer with a plastic tub, but there have been no issues to date. The plastic tub is a tradeoff for Stainless Steel to keep price down (less than $400). Overall, I would say, "Well done!"

From the large capacity and the stainless steal drum to the incredible versitility usually found on the more expensive washers, this washing machine more than met my expectations at a relatively low price.

Great value for well built washer

Our 10+ year old top loading Whirlpool blew its motor so we decided to get a new washer - wanted to stick with top loader as I like to keep it simple and I do not want to have to bend over to get wet clothes out of the washer. I'd read mixed reviews on top-loading High Efficiency washers, so this model being an Energy Star rated washer that uses less water and energy (but not a "high efficiency") seemed like a good compromise. So far we've been very happy with it. It seems well built and is simple to use. It does not have excessive features that I would not use, but has enough wash options to cover 99% of things you'd normally throw at it. It is also big enough to wash comforters and other large items. Some things I like about it is that it is very quiet when running through all cycles, it has an auto sensor for water level which has been very accurate, and the extra spin cycle option wrings the clothes very dry so the dryer itself has less work to do. At this point I have no negatives other than there is no End of Cycle buzzer or beep -- nothing. Just shuts off. My laundry room is downstairs so it'd be nice to hear when it is done running rather than having to go check. For the price I paid for it from BB (at the time was on sale for $399) I am one happy customer. Hopefully it last many years for us - that is the next test. Highly recommend if you looking for a cost efficient, durable washer that doesn't have excessive features.

I've had the washer now one month. I love the deep and large interior capacity. I really enjoy the sensor auto water level. Clothes come out well cleansed. I enjoy that i can fit large blankets or all my whites in one load, instead previously having to separate in two separate loads. Just a perk, it's very quiet when running. Thus far, no complaints.

    Nice, but makes knocking sound

Purchased GE 4250 WASHER GTWN4250DW. Seems to get the clothes clean. We bought it because it said it was quiet. When it is operating, there is a banging or knock type of sound that happens. It is loud enough that my dog thinks there is someone knocking and barks.

Hello AAL1 - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. A knocking (metallic knock, double knock, or metallic clunk) noise during agitation or spin is a normal sound. This sound occurs when the washer transitions from a stop or paused state to running in spin. It happens several times a cycle after the speed changes or pauses and is caused by two components in the drive system engaging quickly. I hope this helps! Thanks for providing your feedback! Hello believein - this is Nancy at GE. Congratulations on your new GE washer! This is a nice model. It offers the HydroWave wash system which allows the agitator to make a longer 360 degrees stroke and operate in both directions. This allows the clothing to travel longer in the water instead of short aggressive strokes. The longer travel helps to improve the turnover of clothing and gentle cleaning helps prevent fabric wear and color fading. The smoothness of the HydroWave wash system is also much quieter. I hope this helps! Thanks for choosing GE! GE_Appliances

I had to replace the washer in my household because it went. This washer caught my eye because of its capacityand all the different settings it had, including hand wash for extreme delicates. Once it was brought home and hooked up, I must say I'm impressed. It's extemely quiet and very efficient. This washer can even handle a huge comforter that my old one couldn't. The hand wash setting worked perfectly for our delicates. Overrall, great washer.

It's great to have such a versatile washer. The tub size is wonderful and the fact that I can set it to determine the water level for me is great. Now I put in detergent and leave no need to determine how high I'd like the water. Another highlight MADE IN USA!!!

Great Washer! - Assembled in the USA

I have had my "old style" GE washer for 3 months and it has performed excellently. All the cycles I need, very quiet. ASSEMBLED IN THE USA. Only one minor drawback is that the auto water level sensor never seems to put in enough water, so I just don't use it. For what I consider to be a med. size load, I have to select large or super on the selector to get what seems like enough water in.

Very good "old school" washing machine.

I chose this model after much research, and glad I did. Still has an agitator. You can start the water and add soap before putting clothes in. Can stop the system to add another item, choose a second rinse or a separate rinse cycle, which uses more water. Choose your cycle carefully, as regular whites and color cycles agitate too hard for delicate materials. Wash them on delicate, and all is well. The sounds it makes are different from older models, but not a problem.

Hate it. I wanted an agitator and control over water level. This machine has an agitator and the water level dial has Auto Sensor, Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large and Max as options. NOT TRUE!!!! Even on the Max setting the machine barely fills half way. No where on the exterior of this machine does it say it is HE. I hate it. Takes forever to run a load too. Bought it yesterday - returning it today!!

    OK Washer

This washer for the money is ok. It does the job. I'm not real happy with a coupleof things. The water level is very low so how it is supposed to get clothes clean is beyond me. I find myself making every load a super heavy load for more water. I have found that lint and detergent have not been rinsed off clothes. After starting the washer if you stop it you can't just load clothes and it continues. It empties out water and starts all over again. Make some weird noises.

    Excellent product/value for the price

This GE washer is an unbelievable value for the price. Large capacity, direct drive motor, quiet agitation, stainless steel tub, energy efficient, and auto sensing load size, all for $539.99. Why would anyone want to pay more for a washer? In fact this was a replacement for a Kenmore Elite Oasis that cost twice as much, was a nightmare to operate (kept having to fix unbalanced load) and didn't clean our clothes as well. I will never buy a more expensive washer again. Thank you GE!

    Does not clean clothes.

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Somebody said it before, "Like washing your clothes in a puddle." On manual control with SUPER selected, the tub only fills about 30%. This simply is not enough water to clean no matter what detergent you use. All loads must be medium or less. Only the very lightest loads (4 pair BVDs, four pairs sweat socks) may you use the Large setting for water. Where my old Maytag did everything in one load, this GE takes 3 or 4. The rinse cycle is another joke. It sprays the load with cold water for two minutes and then spins and drains. The washer repeats this two more times going into the final spin after the third spray. The spin cycle is unnecessarily long and quite violent resulting in pulled threads on several garments. The washer works as designed, it just simply does not get your clothes clean. No garment ever feels fresh and clean........ I thought the bad reviews on this machine were from people over reacting and exaggerating, boy was I wrong. This is the worst washer I've ever owned and I go back to the rolling pin days.

    Lemon or Poor Design??

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this HE washer to replace a 10 year old GE washer. How I wish I had repaired that one! A few months after purchasing this we kept getting streaks of a silt-like substance on washed clothes that was difficult to get out. Called Best Buy, as unit was still under manuf. warranty, they sent a GE rep.man. He said use only HE detergent and also set the pump to pump longer as our drain is over head. We had been finishing up our regular detergent, but switched to only HE. However, we continued to have same issue. Sometimes I had to wash an item 3 or 4 times to get the streaks out. Then a screw holding the wash basket broke and got stuck under the agitator. Called Best Buy and as 1 yr. GE warranty was over, they sent someone from a local repair company. The young man who came seemed to have been repairing washers for about 2 weeks. I had to show him how to tell that the screw had broken off. He offered different reasons for the scummy residue and said he could not replace the screw. A few months later another screw broke off the basket. I called Best Buy, told them to send a different repair company, please. This rep.man said we needed a new basket assembly and would put in an order for one. A few days later we get a call - a new basket assembly is too expensive, so we have the authorization to get a new comparable washer from Best Buy. Plus, the extended service contract we paid extra for is now considered fulfilled, and we will need to purchase a new service contract on the new washer. Lovely! Maybe we got a lemon, but more likely this is a poorly designed machine. The water level fills according to the weight a sensor detects. But there are times I have a few delicate items in and it fills up halfway up the tub. Then there are times I have a very full load and the things on top don't even get wet. We have learned you cannot fill this washer up above half full if you want the clothes to come out clean. If you are washing throw pillows that are light, you need to trick the washer into adding more water by soaking them first in water so they are very heavy, for there is no way for you to select the water level. It is automatic. Also, there is no ability to change the type of cycle once started and if the machine goes off balance and you have to pause it , the machine will sometimes shut off completely. If it shuts off, when you restart it, it pumps the water out. Then you need to start a new cycle, adding fresh water and detergent, as you have no way to know if it was washing or rinsing. And this is ENERGY EFFECIENT HOW?? Note, the machine will not turn itself off if it is off balance, as our previous one did. As ours is down a steep set of steps, I cannot get there quickly and last time it almost rocked itself off the platform the washer is on to raise it off the damp basement floor. On top of all this, we are still getting a silty residue on clothes, even after doing a bleach cleanout on the washer as instructed. I regret having bought this washer immensely. I had thought GE was a reliable brand. Not any more, apparently. We haven't yet gone to Best Buy to see what they will give us as a replacement; we'll see if that is another frustrating experience.
