Excellent washing machine
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this washer! I bought it with the matching dryer this past memorial day weekend. The washer is super quiet (sometimes I can't even tell its on), has a large capacity (I can fit my comforter in there), and has a lot of very useful settings. The value was great ($400), set up was quickly done by the delivery man, and I could not be more pleased with this purchase.

Great value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just picked up this washer this week. A couple loads thus far, and I am impressed. Much quieter and smoother than our previous GE washer (which lasted 11 years), and a much bigger tub in this one. So far, seems to be a great value! No vibration during the spin cycles.

Horrible!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was the worst purchase I ever made. This is the absolute worst washing machine on the planet. Do not buy! I had it for 2 days when it started getting louder and louder during the spin cycle, on the 3rd day it started sounding like a jet engine, and I could even hear it from the outside of my house! I thought maybe it wasn't level (per the troubleshooting guide) so I had the machine leveled. The noise got even worse and sounded like a freight train clanking against a jet engine backdrop! We were to leave on vacation so we left it and went on our trip, when we got home and tried to wash it sounded so bad we decided to call and have the machine returned. Unfortunately for us it was past the 15 day return point, so we had to have it serviced. Fast forward 2 MONTHS of waiting for parts which never fixed the machine and endless service repair calls which would only fix the machine for less than a day, we decided enough and had to fight with Best buy to return. They did allow us to exchange the machine and we made sure not buy anything even remotely like this one. The problem was a giant concrete counterweight inside the washing machine, apparently it was impossible to get it attached properly so it was actually getting chewed up (yes concrete!) by the drum spinning. When they picked up the machine to remove it giant clouds of pulverized concrete flew out of the bottom of the machine and the floor underneath where it sat was caked with a thick layer of powdered concrete. I couldn't believe they actually sold such a grossly defective product! Save yourself much heartache and time and DO NOT BUY THIS WRETCHED, HORRIBLE MACHINE! I wish someone could make a washing machine like my old 1970s machine! All you had to do was turn it on and it worked solidly for 25 years! This is progress??????????

Sits unused. Complete Junk
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Below is the letter I sent to GE about my recent purchase. This is in no way Best Buys fault. I am an industrial mechanic with an extensive mechanical background. My old Maytag washer started having problems after about 18 years of service. I enjoy rebuilding things as a hobby. I have completely disassembled and rebuilt the entire machine one piece at a time. While I was doing this I bought a new GE washer to use as a primary machine and to tide me over while I rebuilt my old one. After using the new GE machine for about 5 months now, my wife and I realize that the machine is terribly engineered and cheaply built. My wife refuses to even use the machine and uses exclusively our old 18 year old machine downstairs. I agree with her. The new GE spins way to fast making balancing a load impossible about 85 percent of the time. 4, 5, even 6 times we have to stop and redistribute the load so it doesn't shake violently. The high speed spin also causes clothes to compress to the side of the drum so tightly that the dryer can not get out the wrinkles. This is using the cycle that spins slower than the 700 R.P.M. top speed spin. There are other issues but these are the ones that have caused us to completely abandon using the machine. Times are tough for us and spending $529.64 at Best Buy to buy this unusable machine makes me discouraged and angry. I feel that this machine is completely useless to us and I would appreciate GE making arrangements to have the machine picked up and our money returned. Please pass this letter along to your engineering, research and development, and quality control departments.

Hate It!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m having a difficult time putting into words how much I despise this washer. HATE IT. REALLY HATE IT. If I can spare one person the pain this washer has caused me...at least my experience will be worth something. I chose this washer because I wanted something reliable in a top load model without a bunch of bells and whistles that could break or cause problems. I wanted a good, solid washer that I could depend on. This isn’t it. This washer has a mind of its own. It will fill with water, refuse to begin agitating, and then randomly empty itself dry. This isn’t due to user error. The machine is poorly designed. I’ve had the machine empty randomly immediately after filling it on multiple occasions under entirely different scenarios. It’s infuriating and wastes tons of time and water. Infuriating. Especially when you’re in a rush or have multiple loads to wash. If this temperamental washer does make it through the cycle, expect to find your clothes wrapped and twisted around the agitator in some sort of hellish Gordian knot. Maybe not with every cycle, but often enough to be maddening. Horrible design. Looking forward to the day I can be rid of this thing. I’ll never buy another GE washer.

Very Good for the price...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are a lot of nice features, functions, etc. However, a lot parts have such a cheaply made feel. In the price point of this purchase the overall value is better but G.E. sending everything to built anywhere but here in America shows in the details.

Started great and very disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always had a GE washer and loved it. Had my new one 2 years and very disappointed, seems like the water never fully drains and a strong smell coming out of it. Not to mention that things get caught around the middle. In the market for a new on.

Posted .Hello amy2015 - this is Nancy at GE. We are very sorry to hear that your washer is not working properly, and I'm happy to help you. If it is not spinning properly, have you tried to reset your washer? If it experienced a power spike or unbalanced load, it may send a fault code to the motor and may require the motor to be reset. To do this, unplug the washer for one minute from the electrical outlet. Plug the washer back in and lift and lower the lid 6 times within a 12 second period. You have 30 seconds to start lifting and lowering the lid. The lid must be raised a minimum of 2" to ensure the magnetic connection on the lid is interrupted. Make sure you close the lid completely each time. The motor has now been reset and is ready for you to start a cycle. If this does not help, we recommend contacting GE Factory Service at 1-800-432-2737 for assistance. I hope this helps!

Went from 5 Star to 0 Star in 17 months
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read the reviews, I could live with the "issues"; loud, tangles hoodie strings, water level wasn't up to par. But, I loved the features it had, soak, agitation, cycle choices, extra rinse. I purchased the 4 year extended warranty. Guess I didn't need all 4 years, it made it 17 months and it's dead! Service repair was here yesterday and warranty company won't repair all the issues to extensive, they are going to do a Product Buy Back. P.O.S. So now, left again with Loads of Laundry and starting from square one!

It is broken
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received the first washer broken. I'm pretty sure they broke it when they brought it into my house. They came out 2 days later with new one. Seemed to be fine. Now 4 months later it is broken. The spin is not working right. Smells horrible. Makes funny whirling noise. Not happy. Will not buy a GE again and probably won't buy from Best Buy again. I shouldn't have gotten rid of my old washer. It didn't wash great but at least it washed.

washer works great, unless your clothes are dirty.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Washer works great, until you wash something that you can actually see the dirt on. Worked in the yard, not for very long and clothes got dusty (not even really dirty), washed and the dirt was still there, could scrap the dust up with my finger nail! Unfortunately happened after 30 days, so BEST BUY said SORRY can do ANYTHING! After spending over $500, they won't/don’t back what they sell after 60 days, pit-a-full! Great way to treat customers...not any more, EVER! Will contact GE to see if they actually stand behind their products.

This product should not be on the market
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had been using a friends Roper by Whirlpool, many people objected to how strongly it washed, but it suited me perfectly. I like my clothes CLEAN. The reason I choose to purchase a new washer & dryer was because, as I said, mine were borrowed. I purchased the GE (model GTW4250___) for 3 essential reasons. A) They were American made, B) The washer had an agitator C) The price was better, than most. With the GE washer I could have been washing with dirty water the way the clothes came out. The clothes were dingy, but worse than that, if at all possible, they smelled as bad coming out, as when they were originally put in. It took 16 washes to get three loads of clothes anywhere near the semblance of clean! Needless to say I sent the washer and dryer back within the time frame allotted. Thank You Best Buy. I replaced them with a LG washer (6571176) & Matching Dryer (1540072) from Best Buy and was happily surprised that a washer without an agitator could wash clothes. Still not my old Roper but, I would definitely recommend this LG washer & dryer set. There are a couple of things that you need to be aware of, one of which is you have no control of the water level. So aside from doing 2 rinses, I actually do an entire wash and rinse cycle without soap. I do this because I cannot take the chance of having any soap left in the clothes. Where the dryer is concerned, when attempting to dry my electric blanket, the sensors continually stopped the machine. I finally figured out it was a safety feature. To overcome this I simply continued to turn it on. The dryer may have construed the electrical plug on/in the blanket to be something which may have been capable of harming, in some way the dryer (electrical fire, damage to the drum.) At any rate I had no problem with any other drying.

Poor Excuse For A Washer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has to be quite possibly the worst washing machine of all time. It uses less water to clean your clothes, but even when using the most expensive high efficiency detergents, and using the double rinse option, it is never able to completely rinse all of the detergent off of the clothes. It fills up with maybe 8" of water and it barely moves the clothes around. I feel like my clothes haven't been sufficiently cleaned in months. Also, if you hang dry your clothes it will leave a nasty residue that will ruin any expensive designer clothes you might wash. What I usually end up having to do is one cycle with detergent, and then run the cycle again without detergent, with double rinse cycles on both just to ensure that it rinses the clothes somewhat clean. So, you really end up wasting water anyway. Mind you, this also happens when only washing a few articles of clothing. If you're used to doing massive loads of laundry then stay away from this machine as it could take you hours to do your wash. As a matter of fact, just stay away from this washing machine in general. On top of it's functionality problems it makes a terribly high pitched annoying squealing sound every two seconds during it's cycle, so if you were planning on doing your wash while watching TV or while you're sleeping, forget about it. I'm shocked that this machine hasn't been recalled already. It's a complete joke.

STAY AWAY!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this as a replacement for a 6 yr old front loader that started smelling terrible. Decided I wanted an old fashioned top loader where I wouldn't have those problems. Boy was I wrong. Got the first one...lasted 36 days when the agitator flew off during a cycle and it sucked my $45.00 mattress pad into the washer never to return. The agitator broke into pieces so they brought me a new one. By the second load, the upper part of the agitator came apart in 3 pieces. Seriously??? Now I am researching the other available washers to see if there is one I can get that is still top loading. It's not the cost...just the style that I really want. I wouldn't buy one of these if they were giving them away for free!!!

A little disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The price is fair for this large capacity washer. And it doesn't take up as much space in my laundry room. However, the instructions are not well written and my clothes keep getting stuck under the rotator. In fact, a blanket is stuck right now and I can't even use it. Instead of repairing it, I think I might return it for a different model.

It looks nice and all, but it doesn't washes clean
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The slow agitator threw me off a bit, but I still thought it was going to make my clothes as clean as the old washer. The clothes look clean, but the armpits of my son shirts still smelled. In addition, it took me two drain and spin cycles in order to drain the machine and water from the clothes. Of course I used "he" detergents. I will pour more next time and see what happens.

Posted .Hello madmommy - this is Nancy at GE. We are very sorry to hear that your washer is loud and can certainly understand your concern. Since you just had the washer delivered, it sounds like not all of the shipping material has been removed. There is a shipping bar at the bottom the washer that should be pulled out. Also, please make certain that the washer is level. We hope that you were able to get the washer checked and that you are happy with it now. Thanks for your feedback!

WORST MACHINE EVER!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had two machines deliver in less than a year both went bad on me, I had the first one returned and received a replacement, the replacement has been fix twice already and waiting on a third time since JULY when I received it till now September. It is ridiculous not to mention that GEEK SQUAD is a horrible service, they over schedule their appointments make you wait for hours and then dont show for their appointements. I am done with both GE and BEST BUY!
