The Chromecast is designed to be a pure streaming adapter, to be used with either a computer or mobile device on your wifi network. Just select video on your device from the service of your choice, like YouTube or Netflix, then choose to cast and it'll magically appear on your TV. It actually streams HBO Go better than my full media PC. For $35 (or less), it's a great alternative to the Roku.

This device is my goto for displaying anything i'm working on to friends and family. It can take any tab you are using in Google Chrome and mirror it to your tv. It's excellent for watching Netflix, Hulu Plus or any other streaming service. It doesn't have a remote like the amazon fire tv stick but thats ok because it can cast more items to your tv when the fire tv cannot

I don't have cable, I have netflix and amazon prime. I used to own a Roku. compared to this I like chrome better. However, I cannot use amazon prime on chromecast. I did find some message boards that showed how to see it via the web, but honestly it's a bit of a rollercoaster. So I only use the chrome with netflix, youtube. But I love the fact that I could use my tablet as a remote for the chromecast.

Bought it to stream olympic coverage online to tv. Also it took was using chrome browser and comcast extension. Did a pretty good job overall. Sometimes would bug out and need to be rebooted but excellent for the price. Would really be outstanding if it worked from Ipad.

Easy to install and ok to use for Netflix but incompatible with Dish's Dish Anywhere.

Not bad for the price. It's handy because I can control it with my phone which is always nearby. But you have to set it up way too often. And if my husband was watching something, there's no way to tell what app it was. So I can't pause it or change episodes. I have to set it up and then go into an app and start it from my phone to control it. So it's not really a good idea for more than one person.

Easy to use. I love that I can set it up to work with my phone. These things are so cheap too! What a great value!

Love it so much I bought 2... I can play my Netflix and other downloads right from my phone...and it was only $30

I have a sister with special needs who has her own tablet. She would often watch music videos and such on her tablet - but keep it very close to her face. By purchasing this, it allowed her to easily transfer her videos to the TV and not so close to her face - or as loud in her headphones. Other than that, setup was incredibly easy and takes no time at all. Would reccommend to anyone who uses a laptop or tablet for a majority of their entertainment needs.

Easy to set up and easy to use. Works very well with my TV. A few times the iPad crashed while watching Netflix.

What a great device! No more wires, or cables...simply plug into available HDMI slot and start streaming from your android device and chrome browser! The device powers itself via a usb port on the TV - so if USB is not available on tv you will have to use the supplied power plug. We oftentimes disconnect the chromecast and place in living room, so the device is readily available anywhere.

Chromecast has really taken off in 2014 and looks to be only growing in features and support for 2015. At around $30 anyone can buy it and send your content to a bigger screen to share with other or just watch alone. It does not have all the features of say an AppleTV, but then again it is not trying to be that. And not to mention is costs at a 3rd of the price. This gadget has been such a life saver this Christmas playing the role as my "go to" gift. A must have.

I would strongly recommend this to anyone with Netflix. For others I would wait and see if the software upgrades bring more functionality.Overall its a pretty neat device with tons of potential. But its currently limited to a fews apps - youtube, google play and netflix.

I am using my chromecast on my samsung smart hub tv. I love the functionality of the tv, but issue really was using the stupid remote to type. By adding the chromecast, I can search for things right from my phone and just share them onto the TV. I love all the features and the convenience of having everything right there on my android phone (chromecast app) which is also available for apple phones according to play store. I'm going to purchase one for every TV!!

I have this device plugged into my Samsung TV and use my iPhone to control it. The set up is relatively painless as the instructions pop up on the screen and walk you through it. The Chromecast and my iPhone just have to be on the same WiFi network to operate. Simple enough. However, the only apps I can use it with are Netflix and YouTube. Even though one of the product features listed is the ability to stream from Hulu Plus, it doesn't actually appear to be one and I'm still unable to set that up. Some of the videos on YouTube that I can see on my computer are unable to play on my phone, and thus on my TV. Strange. It would be nice if Google continued to add support for other apps. For the price though, it's pretty decent.
