iPad killer

I have been using iPads since I can't remember when. I've had probably 5 or 6 of them.
My primary use cases are traveling on airplanes and commuting on the train/bus. I like to have offline content that I can read, watch and work with. Mac and Windows laptops usually don't have easy ways to store offline content. iOS and Android do.
The iPad is pretty good, but it has a couple of annoying issues. The first one is that there isn't a good solution for the iPad to stand on its own, that works on desks, laps and bellies (when laying down). The smart keyboard cover works great on a desk but not on the others. Laptops work better.
The second annoying issue of the iPad is the inability to plug in a mouse. Many apps, especially the professional ones, require you to perform tasks with a mouse or a touchpad. It just takes too much time to do certain things on an iPad. For example, copying and pasting text between windows.
Enter the Pixelbook. The way they designed it is genius. You have basically four "modes":
1. Laptop style
2. Tablet style
3. Tent style
4. Entertainment style
I use them all, depending on where I am or what I'm doing. But the one that really stands out is the Entertainment mode. You fold it like you were going to use it tablet mode, but stop in the middle, with the screen at 45 degrees from the keyboard.
This is great for watching movies, as the screen is closer to you than it would be if you were using a laptop.
I wasn't looking for another device, I got two iPads that are not even a year old. Then I visited a friend that has a couple of Pixelbooks. WIth the ability to install Linux and Android apps, and all these "modes", I decided to give it a try.
It's great, it blows the iPad out of the water in the number of use cases that it fits and the flexibility to adapt. The keyboard is awesome, a pleasure to type, much better than any iPad or Mac keyboard.
The only complaint I have is battery life. Because it is a fully-fledged computer, it has the battery performance of a laptop. The iPad's battery lasts a lot longer. The Pixelbook, however, charges faster than an iPad, even with the fast Power Delivery charging of te iPad Pro.
I'll give it four stars because there are some gestures and screen optimizations that could be improved (and the battery life as well).
Overall a really good investment and it is now my go-to on-the-go device.

Purchased this as a gift for my husband, who loves it. Super easy to set up, easy to use as a laptop or tablet and so simple to navigate. Would recommend getting the pen to go alongside it. Great display.

The Pixelbook is the perfect size for me. The hardware is great, build quality great. I wanted to like this and I do. Fast and fluid. But I really needed some windows features that aren't here. It's unfortunate because I really love the machine.. But for me Chrome OS is not worth this price. It would be unfair for me to give this a low rating because the OS didn't work for me. For some this will be a 5 Star laptop. My search continues. (Consider the Lenovo 920. We have that and it's stellar. Still looking for another midrange machine )

I'm reviewing this as a :Chromebook user, not as someone trying to figure out if you need to buy one or not.
I'd have to say, this Chromebook is a work of art. The hardware in almost every regard is top-notch. First and foremost, I love the keyboard. It's very comfortable and the travel between keys is excellent. The touchpad is great as well, although, the tapping noise can get a little bit annoying after awhile. The build quality feels exceptional: It doesn't feel like other cheap-feeling plastic-y builds. The metal chasis gives it a bit of weight, but the trade-off is the solid feel when you carry it. The screen is quite beautiful and the rubberized hand pads on each side of the touch pad makes typing much more comfortable, especially if you're typing up a long Best Bu review :). The two USB-ports will suffice, although, it would have been nice to have a few more. At least this device still has a headphone jack!
The performance is quite zippy for opening multiple tabs for the memory-hungry Chrome browser.
If you're in the market for a quality Chromebook, this is the one to get.

Best tablet out there. Works great, flawless, looks sharp and made by Google with pure android system. This is a very easy to use tablet. It has 2 USB-C connections and audio port, it does not have an SD slot for extra storage and it does not come with the pen, which for the price that you're paying for it you'd think they'd include it. Price is also a bit high.

I originally planned to buy a Chromebook to act as a SSH tool to all my other devices for home projects. I was reluctant at first but wanted to give it a try because ChromeOS has a Linux beta and Crouton sounded like it would be sufficient for me. I found one of these refurbished at practically a steal, so I thought why not?
I use this Chromebook as practically my daily driver of a laptop. It is sufficient for e-mails, normal browsing, some video streaming etc. Unfortunately, the previously mentioned tools aren't exactly like Linux so I've run into some problems, but of course I expected that when purchasing this thing.
The touchscreen capabilities with the pen have been a great tool for me to draw out quick proof of concepts with my various teams and display them to other monitors. I also replaced my whiteboard for programming interview practice. And I'm not going to say it landed me a job, but I'm sure it added to my resourcefulness points during my interview when they asked whiteboard questions, but didn't have a proper whiteboard in my interview room.
As much as I love this piece of hardware, I do think it's expensive at MSRP.

I had very hard time making my mind and comparing this chromebook to others until I made my decision. Honestly, till the paying time, I was still in "Hesitation" mode. Original price is $999, compared to others, it is overly priced... I agree with you. Google dropped the price to $754. Still high... But you have a lot of good advantages comparing it to others:
1- it is a google product: you will always get the latest update
2- For sure you will have Linux support on this Chromebook
3- Better and faster CPU (compared to Samsung and Asus Chromebooks).
4- Large SSD (as claimed) hard disk when compared to others. I do save a lot of files locally)
5- Nice and slim design. It is indeed stronger build than others
6- Nicer keyboard feeling and glass touch pad. Can't beat that.
On the other side:
1- I am not a big fan of the touch screen pen (especially for $90) I barely use a touch screen
2- Speakers are indeed muffled... Lack of holes to keep the deign nice.
3- Minimum Connectivity available (type C connectors) I had to buy one of these multi connect adapters (working fine)
4- Screen big bezels ... Can be ignored though.
But still no regret for paying the extra $145 to get this one (instead of getting the Samsung).

So, I thought I was going to go all into the Apple ecosystem, since I have two i phones and an i pad, so I bought an i Mac. I'm not sure if I am a target of the government (and I have very good reasons to be) or if I am just having bad luck with hackers getting into my devices, but the i Mac crashed, so I took it back and I had been eyeing this sleek beautiful pixelbook for a while, but it was 999, which was just too much. Well, Best Buy had a sale and the price was less than 800, so I bought it online and went in store to pick it up. It was most definitely quite an experience like no other just opening the box and removing the operating system (which brings me to why I eventually decided to take it back). I fell iin love with the keyboard and the two in one design was so steady and it really felt like it was worth the price I paid for it, until I start downloading apps (android apps, I assume), and the graphics for many if not most of the apps that are available to download simply don't work correctly and are distorted. I then realized that it is just a browser, not a computer where I can save files and things. So, while it was by far the best design of any computer, the fact that it wasn't really a complete computer eventually led me to return it. Yeah, I do miss the backlit keyboard, but that's a loot of money to pay for a nice keyboard and touchscreen. Honestly, I really absolutely loved the machine, but I was just disappointed the machine lacked so many key components that make a computer a computer.

We really like the Pixelbook. It has great performance, solid battery life, is lightweight, and an aesthetically pleasing design. After two months since purchase, its meeting all of our needs. We look forward to having the option of dual booting Windows once Google releases a Chrome OS software update a bit later this year.

Highly recommend Google Pixelbook. This is by far the best chromebook out there. It feels nice, solid and well build, it is slim, looks fancy, works excellent. There is nothing bad to say about this unit, except for the price, compared to the other chromebooks this one is pricey.

portable, thin and beautiful. I'm an avid mechanical keyboard user and i have no issues with the keyboard either. I enjoy using it both as a laptop and a tablet. I do not have the stylus so i can't speak to that. one gripe is the lack of usb port. having to get an adapter to usb-c is a little frustrating but not too bad for me.

This is my 2nd chromebook, the first being an ASUS Flip. The flip is underpowered even for light browsing but it was a low cost of entry into Android apps on the chromebook. I've played with others in store and when friends bring theirs around but still wasn't satisfied with the speed. Well, this thing FLIES! I got the low end model ($999 is low end?) and I'm quite quite happy with it. I'll go so far to say to me, it's worth the price.

The Google Pixelbook is a high-end chromebook with many high end laptop features with the ease of Chrome OS. The battery life is easly 4 or 5 hours, or more depending on what you are doing. Backlit keyboard, high-res touch screen display that flips 360 degrees to become a tablet. Sturdy, light weight, aluminum chassis makes it great to carry around.
I don't understand why the Pen has to be so expensive, but I opted not to get one because of that price. It also lacks a place to store the pen, which seems to be an oversight.
The only minor short coming is that it doesn't have an SD or even a microSD card slot. If you want to upload photos from a camera, for example, you'll need to get a USB-C card reader.
If you're looking for an excellent every-day high quality, premium deisgn Chromebook, this is one is about as good as you can get.

I needed a laptop for grading assignments and the odd remote task for work. I was looking at the Surface Laptop and some of the Lenovo Yoga models, but I realized that I didn’t want another Windows laptop. I use a Dell G7 for gaming at home and on the go, so I needed something very portable with good battery life and performance. The PixelBook checks all the boxes. And it’s more secure than Windows (Apple had priced their Macs outside of what I’m willing to pay). It runs well, has great Android support, and does everything I want it to do. I know Chromebooks (and especially premium ones) aren’t for everyone, but this works perfectly for me. And the upcoming Crostini Linux container support means this puppy gets a whole lot more useful without requiring me to switch to dev mode. I’m very happy with this.

For all of you wondering if your chromebook can replace a laptop? This one can. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this Pixelbook. I own a trucking company with multiple locations. I hated dragging my laptop from place to place with its bulky bag and power supply...this can fit in an organizer and my phone uses the same power cord. It runs all of the web based applications that I need to use and almost any app from the Google play store. I have no regrets to switching to my chrome book, if I had to do over again, I would buy it again. I've recommended my friends get one. It can run a 2nd monitor, an external.mouse and keyboard. It's light weight and very durable. I highly recommend it.

Had the Samsung Pro, which is great, but the pixelbook is better in every way. Thinner, lighter, better battery, and the biggest plus to me is the keyboard. Yes its backlit but the feel is premium. Very happy with my purchase.
