Customers are saying

Customers frequently mention the ease of use, excellent coverage, and straightforward setup of the Google Wifi AC1200 system. Many also praise the improved signal strength and extended range, resulting in better overall performance. While some users experienced connectivity challenges, the positive feedback on performance and ease of use outweighs these concerns. A few customers noted the system's higher price point.

I had so many dead zones in my house which is about 2,500sqft. I had a top notch cable/router combo and I still couldn't get good connections. I bought this and every inch of my house is at top speed. Easiest setup ever. Very awesome product.

This was an addition to my current Google Wifi mesh network... Fast and easy install.... Plugged it in and used the app to install... Up and running in 5 minutes! Extended the network enough to now handle the whole house! Awesome product!

So I decided to replace my existing ASUS router with Google WIfi becuase it was starting to show signs of failure already. I decided to invest on a mesh system in order to have a constant 5GHz band. Installation was a breeze. The problem came in when trying to connect 2 of my devices (laptops) to the 5GHz band. Initially they did at first., but after a while they went back to 2.4GHz. After seeing this behavior a couple of times I decided to contact Google Support. We went through the whole process of resetting the devices a couple of times and it seemed to do the trick (at least for i hour and a half). Funny thing is that the laptops are about 7 feet away to one of the wifi points. The Google support board have dozens of reports about the same issue. I think that this product is still a work in progress and it needs some close attention to this issue. In the current state, I can not recommend this product. If I keep seeing this problem for another week, I will have to return it.

Was difficult to get started. My router/modem had died so I was starting over from scratch. The difficulty was starting up a modem from scratch. Google set up was a piece of cake.

I bought this to try and boost my wifi strength which has always been low in my older house with old metal mesh and plaster walls. This system easily tripled my seed signal strength throughout the house. Best money I spent at Best Buy this year

I had been using an old router for my two story condo and was not having any luck getting solid signal throughout my place. With Google WiFi I get full coverage everywhere. Very cool design and the app is handy too. Awesome product!

Easy Google Wi-Fi set up by far this was the easiest ethernet Wi-Fi set up I have ever done in my life I was done in less than five minutes. Watched a YouTube video before I started good information. When it comes to creating a password Google needs to explain That you can use upper & lower case letters numbers and special characters of course You can always call the helpline. Appears to be working well so far.

I really don't like writing reviews for tech products after only a month, but so far it has worked great. Setup was pretty simple and the interface is the best I've had with a router ever. Let's see what happens when I have to switch cell phones though.

Shot a picture of the QR code on the base unit, and then added the next two waypoints and it was running. The printer and thermostat connect to the 2.4ghz, and our AppleTV and iPads connect to the 5ghz frequency - all managed by the Google WiFi.

Simple setup, great coverage, but a bit lacking

First, let me say that Google got a lot right with these routers, I would have given them four and a half stars if I could have, but there is enough missing to keep this from being a really excellent product. Setup is dead simple. The units are quite small and unobtrusive and fit well with modern decor. Coverage and speed is excellent. The Good: 1. Setup - Download the app (android or ios) and login to your Google account, connect the first (primary) unit to your (cable/dsl/...) modem, plug in power, and follow directions. Scan the QR code on the bottom of the unit to link it to your account. Assign a location (eg. "living room"), network name (SSID), and password and you're done. To set up the secondary (bridge) nodes, simple place one, plug it in, tell the app to add a wifi point and follow the instructions. The App also has tests to check the mesh connectivity, internet speed, and wifi signal at the device. 3. Performance - Uniformity of speed is really excellent. Mobility support is also very good, moving from node to node causes no disruption in service even on real time apps like whatsapp. Most importantly, we were able to plug an ethernet VOIP phone into one of the bridge nodes with no drop in quality, which is something we couldn't do with any other range extender or game type adapter. 3. Updates - It appears that updates are automagic and timely. No more checking the support website hoping for a firmware update and trying to block the latest attack. 4. Support - There is both dedicated email and phone support. 5. Style - Sorry, but when you have a device sitting in the living room, a big box with a bunch of antennas just doesn't do it. These are small, stylish, unobtrusive and fit in well. Yea! The Not-So-Good: 1. Phone app and cloud configuration only - There is no web interface, and no access to the cloud configuration except by the phone app. Google account is required. 2. Configuration is limited - In keeping with the minimalist install, common configuration options are missing. The local network is fixed at 192.168.86.xx/24 and there is no option to set the local address or DHCP address range. If you are upgrading an existing network with fixed addresses (like printers), you will have to set up those devices as well. DHCP reservations can be set, but only for devices the routers have 'seen' on the network; no manual add option. Common wifi, firewall, time of day access, and protocol priority options are missing as well. Additionally, IPv6 support is missing. There is no configuration at all for IPv6. It does appear to be routed in the latest update, but come on, it's 2016. 3. No logging - When things go wrong, either the status LED changes from white if it is a wifi point problem or there is no indication at all. There is no logging of any errors or, more importantly, security issues. You pretty much get to guess at what to try next. 4. Privacy - As part of the install, the Google wifi app uses your location and registers the wifi points to your location. The entire configuration is maintained in Google cloud with very little visibility into what is actually stored there. There is language in the agreement that Google may use your traffic patterns to adjust the (cloud) configuration, but no indication of what data is transmitted back to Google. It would be nice if all of this was a bit more transparent. Summary: A relatively inexpensive way to provide fast uniform wifi coverage over a large area with a simple setup. It provides excellent mobility support across wifi points. However, configuration options are excessively limited and privacy is a significant concern.

The router is easy to set up and easily controlled with the Google app that can be used on a smart phone or tablet (either Android or iOS). Recommended for people who aren’t super tech savvy who want a router that just works.

ISP modem in the loft. WIFI point no. 1 hardwired to it. Then WIFI point no. 2 out in the barn 140 ft. away (hardwired from no.1. WIFI point no. 3 is at the front of the barn and not hardwired yet. Then I have another WIFI point that will be wired from no. 3 up to my workshop (150 ft.) If after I get the cables ran and have all of this work I'll paint GOOGLE MESH on the side of my barn.
