Despite having older hardware, The 13 Hero Black still works fantastic. Upgrading from the 10 and using GoPro labs made it worth it. Debated on getting DJI or Ace pro but underwater, the GoPro just looked shaper and more detail from looking at reviews on youtube.

This is a review from a week of use. The camera resolution and ease to use is excellent, as expected. The accessories and carrying case are high quality. The price paid is definitely worth it, There is a lot of power and potential uses for this camera and its versatility compared to a phone camera is superior. if you are hesitating getting one, think about how much use this camera can have and look at it as a good investment. The picture shown is from the case and accessories.

GoPro13 Black is a great camera! First time user, took awesome underwater videos and photos of the coral reef in Hawaii, including all the fishes and other critters. Also great on land (rain or shine) videos and photos. Camera is lightweight and easy to use. My problems were with finding video playback software and the app. I found a workaround for my old laptop.

I had been considering purchasing a GoPro for a few years. But hadn’t followed through thinking what would I really use it for? I have my cell phone, right? Wrong. GoPros small size (2 inches x 2.23 inches x 1.32 inches and .35 lbs) and all of the available accessories and recording options make it perfect to go places and record things that you would not or could not use your phone for.
It comes with 3 small enduro batteries that allow for quick changeout. There is a standalone USB-C dual battery charger (no brick). You can charge battery in camera as well using USB-C connection. 1 curved adhesive mount, a 64GB SanDisk extreme A2 V30 microSD card, mount buckle and thumb screw, 2 18-inch USB-C cables all inside a nice black case.
I am looking forward to discovering all it can do as there are a lot of settings/options to work through. Which brings me to another nice surprise as after initial setup (which was very easy after downloading the GoPro Quick App) I started receiving emails detailing the features, setup, accessories, etc. This was greatly appreciated as I had problem trying to set the resolution/FPS – all I had initially was a slider. Found out there was a switch I needed to set – this allowed access to an array of recording options and access to “Pro Tune”. You can record 5.3K, 4K or 1080P with varying FPS (max of 240). HDR or HLG options too. Camera is also good for photos with 27MP and frame grabs with burst, night options. Can use voice commands too to start/end recordings.
There are subscription(s) options that allow for auto upload to cloud/web/facebook site(s), etc. Or to your phone too using Bluetooth or wifi.
My initial recoding had “fisheye” which I did not like. I researched and changed setting to linear which worked much better for me.
I recorded Christmas at my house using an old Sony small tripod mount I had lying around. I was surprised it worked then found out GoPro uses “universal ¼ inch-20 thread screw”. The recordings (1080P) were super clear, and audio (stereo) was good. There is a small screen on the front next to lens that allows you to see what is being recorded as well as the larger screen on back. These would go dark after a few minutes recording, so I thought it had stopped – it was just conserving battery.
I was surprised that during initial setup it stated the provided microSD card may be too slow. I also tried a 256GB A2 V30 I had lying around and received the same message so I’m not sure what card it expects (looks like it takes up to 1 TB). But it seemed to record fine. It gives you an estimated record time which I thought was very helpful. It records 3 files – a .lrv which is low resolution video, .thm which is a tiny (jpg) thumbnail pic and then .mp4 which is the “actual” video. I took the microSD card out and put it in my Windows 11 laptop. Both low- and high-resolution videos played using VLC software. Nice that the files are easily accessed and can be manually moved around too.
I can not speak to how long a battery lasts but after 30 minutes 1080P recording the battery was still at 75%.
Water resistant up to 30 feet. Pool is a tad too cold right now but can’t wait to use this spring with the grandsons.
1 year warranty parts and labor.
There are so many options for mounting that I suspect you will find one to would work with whatever activity you might be doing. There are also multiple lens options as well – macro, ultra-wide, blur motion and anamorphic.
Is having too many options a negative? I think not, but it definitely requires patience to learn all that you can do with it.
I definitely would recommend as it is not only for adventures but day to day use – possibly as a dash cam?

So far my family and I are having fun with this. GoPro’s are known for their compact and high quality size. Setup was so quick. It was ready to go outside the box.
As I mentioned, GoPro is well known for adventure. Their cameras are made to go hiking, snowboarding, swimming, etc. My family and I are constantly on the go with hikes, so this is a great addition. Plus, the size fits in my hand so it takes up no space in the bag. It’s so durable that I trust my 7 year old to hold it while we’re hiking.
I love that this has a front and rear screen. I don’t know why, but if feels a little different than other GoPros. Maybe because it’s heavier than its predecessor? I’m hoping the extra weight makes it more durable. The compact size makes picture taking super easy. It’s pretty foolproof. Point and click. I’m sure some vloggers will want something with more control more features, but this is great. It’s perfect for the outdoor adrenaline junkie. Document your adventures, make minor edits in the app, and post! It’s currently winter where I live, but I plan on taking it swimming because it’s capable of diving up to 33ft.
My photos and videos so far have been really clean looking. I know other models might have a more impressive tech features, but my photos are crisp looking.
I post a ton of video content on social media, so I really can’t wait to fully explore and push the limits. There’s an upgrade to the voice tuning, so I know it’ll be perfect for my filming.
I’ll put it this way. You’re getting this camera to take on your outdoor adventure. It’s not meant for a wedding photographer or influencer. This is for someone that wants to parasail and record their experience. The contrast, lighting and black levels might need some tinkering, but the factory features are pretty good.
Pros:
Travel case
3 batteries
SIM card
Battery port has 2 charging stations
Many Lens mods to hit all your needs
5.3k video - better than 4k
Burst slo-mo
Durable as heck
GoPro app
Cons:
Not ideal in darker settings
Overall:
If you want a GoPro, then this is a great option. The photo and video quality are really impressive. It will do better in well lit spaces. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a GoPro and want some extra gear.

The Little Camera That Could (In Good Light)

Confession, I am a relative newcomer to GoPro; my previous experience was mostly with handheld gimbals. Compared to my handheld gimbal setup, the Hero 13 provided similar stabilization but was much easier to mount, making it far more convenient for action shots and outdoor activities. After a week with the Hero 13, I am impressed by the video and still shot quality in good lighting. Nighttime shots could be a bit grainy and problematic, but well-lit shots look great.
The software interface is as simple or as complicated as you want to make it. Each battery in the bundle gave me around an hour of recording time during typical use. Overall, this will definitely be part of my go-to-filming equipment going forward. I think the Hero 13, and this bundle specifically, are a great option for those seeking a high-quality portable camera.
Unboxing: This bundle comes with a lot. You get the camera, a memory card, two USB-C cables, three batteries, a battery charging dock, and mounting hardware to mount the camera to a helmet.
Setup: You will need to set up and update the camera out of the box using the GoPro Quick App. The process is easy and straightforward. GoPro has a subscription service for backing up footage to the cloud. It is an optional service, but I would highly consider it.
Experience: Overall this has been one of the best experiences with a device I have had. Everything works as advertised. Voice controls, controls with the Quick App, footage backup have all worked great.
I am extremely impressed with the video quality in well-lit shots. However, my only nitpick in terms of performance would have to be nighttime shots which can have problems with focus and random glitches. I am a bit surprised at nighttime performance since daytime shots look so good. Another nitpick is that lens cover can be a bit tricky to remove and access to the battery compartment can be a bit more difficult than I expected.
I got around an hour worth of recording time on a single battery. However charging time could be a bit slow at around two hours to get the battery fully charged from zero.
Conclusion: The addition of the extra batteries and the base charging station make this bundle an exceptional value. The only thing keeping the Hero 13 from perfection is low light performance. But for daytime shots on the go, this little camera produces a great picture. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get my hands on the lens filters or lens mods yet, but I look forward to trying them soon. If this is a product you have been considering, it is an excellent value for the quality of footage you can get. Highly recommended. 4.5/5

4 Hrs of 5.3K? Hero 13 Black Extended Power Review
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I’ve been looking forward to seeing exactly what the GoPro Hero 13 offers, especially since I’m already invested in the GoPro ecosystem. One thing right out of the box is all my previous mods are compatible with the GoPro Hero 13.
For this review, I’m putting the Extended Power Bundle to the test. It is essentially a turnkey solution for anyone planning long film sessions. The bundle comes packed with the Hero 13 Black, a dual battery charger, three 1900 mAh Enduro batteries, a 64GB SD card, and a dedicated carrying case. Having this much power on hand is a big upgrade for me. It means I can finally focus on capturing high-quality 5.3K footage without the constant anxiety of a battery dying in the middle of a shoot.
- Design/Build/Unboxing -
The unboxing experience makes it clear this bundle aims to be a complete solution. Inside the durable travel case, you get the Hero 13 Black camera, three of the new 1900 mAh Enduro batteries, and a USB-C powered dual battery charger with the cable included. You will need a power brick or a USB input (I have a few on my surge protector.) Note: If you're using a power brick make sure it's 30A. For mounting, they’ve provided the standard mounting buckle, a thumb screw, and a curved adhesive mount perfect for a helmet or vehicle. They even included a 64GB SanDisk Extreme microSD card, which gives me about 60 minutes of recording time at 5.3K. It’s a thoughtful bundle that’s easy to grab and go for sustained filming sessions.
The dual battery charger is a major highlight for my workflow. Being able to charge two batteries simultaneously while I have the third one in the camera is a huge advantage, especially when I'm out camping or on the road. I can just plug the charger into my vehicle’s USB port and keep the power cycling so I'm never sitting around waiting for a charge. One cool feature about the dual battery charger is it can charge sequentially essentially prioritizing the one with the highest charge to get it to 100% first, then it will move to the next battery, Impressive!
- Build Quality and Thermal Design -
The build quality feels incredibly solid. The camera weighs about 5.5 ounces, which is a touch heavier than the Hero 12, but that’s expected given the larger battery capacity. It maintains the legendary GoPro durability, rated for depths up to 33 feet (10 meters) without needing an external housing, and the lens cover is still easily replaceable if it takes a hit.
One subtle but smart change is the texture on the front faceplate. It features a heatsink inspired design that seems specifically intended to help with heat dissipation. When you’re encoding 5.3K or 4K 60fps at high bitrates, the internals can get pretty warm, so seeing a design that accounts for that extra thermal load is reassuring. According to GoPro, it can give you about 10 more minutes before shutting down while stationary (at 5.3K 60fps or 4K 120fps) which is about 55 minutes. One tip: turn off Hypersmooth if you're stationary to generate less heat, or pull the battery and plug it in for USB only power.
The interface remains very user-friendly with 2 displays, a 2.25 inch touchscreen in the back and a 1.5 inch color screen on the front for framing your shots. The best update in my opinion is the magnetic latch mounting system.
The camera still has the folding fingers at the bottom for traditional mounts, but it also has a magnetic interface that allows it to snap into compatible mounts instantly. (Buy 2 of these so you can switch between separate mounts easily) It’s an improvement over the old thumb screw method, you just click it in and you're ready to go. Having both the classic screw base and the magnetic option gives me the flexibility to choose the most secure connection for whatever I’m filming.
- Specs and Features -
The Hero 13 Black uses a 1/1.9-inch CMOS sensor, and while there are definitely larger sensors on the market, this one has a specific advantage that I use constantly: the 8:7 aspect ratio. Because it’s almost square, it is perfect for my workflow. I post a lot of YouTube Shorts, Facebook Reels, and TikToks, and this ratio allows me to shoot a single clip that I can crop into either a 16:9 widescreen or a 9:16 vertical format later. You do have to be mindful of your framing so you don't crop out anything important, but having that 156-degree field of view gives you plenty of room to work with.
Voice Tuning is a huge upgrade in audio quality. When you're outdoors it really focuses on your voice and the difference is big so no more worrying about wind noise and the distance from the mic isn't as much of a factor.
There are a couple of new accessories for the Hero 13 such as the Macro Lens mod and the anamorphic lens. The Macro Lens mod helps you focus really up close and there's even a manual dial to help you focus as well. The anamorphic lens gives you two new cool aspect ratios a 16:9 and a 21:9 . What's cool is there's a smart sensor that detects which lens is on your camera automatically.
The GoPro Hero 13 hits a max resolution of 5.3K at 60 FPS and takes 27-megapixel photos. Even with the smaller sensor size, it maintains a nice balance for action shots where you need a fixed focus.
- Processing and Color Depth -
The GP2 processor handles the heavy data stream for 5.3K footage well. It supports a bitrate of up to 120Mbps, which is important when you are filming scenes like splashing water or a muddy trail when detail is more important.
One of the biggest wins for me is the 10-bit color support. Being able to record over a billion color shades is a big step up from standard 8-bit. It gives me more options if I want to do color grading in post-production. It also includes log encoding for those that want even more options with color.
It's good to see that a GPS module is included. It records metadata like your speed, altitude, and G-force directly into the video file, so you can add telemetry overlays to your clips. Wi-Fi 6 makes transferring those large files a bit smoother than before.
- Battery Life - The batteries are 1900 mAh. These enduro batteries do much better in cold temperatures if you're skiing or snowboarding and maintain voltage stability down to -10 Celsius. If you run out of charge and have a 30W adapter you can go from 0 to 80% in 45 minutes.
1080p 30FPS: Approx 2.5 hours
4K 30FPS: Approx 1.5 hours
5.3K 60FPS: Approx 70 to 80 minutes
If you use all 3 batteries you're looking at about 4 hours of 5.3K footage or 7.5 hours of 1080p without needing a recharge.
- General Performance -
Outdoors is where this camera really looks good. Shooting in 5.3K almost doubles the pixels per frame from 4K. This extra detail is big for social media. You can zoom in on 1080p or 4K without losing any significant sharpness. Burst Slo-Mo is fun. If you step down to 720p you can get 400FPS for 15 seconds, 900p gets you 360FPS for 15 seconds, and 5.3K is 120FPS for 5 seconds.
This camera struggles with low-light scenes with noise and stabilization, but that's not really what this camera is for. Stabilization is really good on this camera. The Auto Boost Analyzes the stability and makes adjustments to the shot ensuring your getting a stable, wide shot. Horizon lock is really easy. You can rotate the camera a full 360 and the horizon will remain level. This camera in all but low-light has exceptional stabilization.
There are 3 microphones that capture stereo sound, wind noise is minimal. You can also pair a Bluetooth mic or headset to the camera as well. Once again, Voice tuning really does a great job with audio.
- Software - The Quik app for iOS is simple but stable. There's a nice auto-edit feature that will quickly put together your highlight footage while adding music and effects. You can also get firmware updates, keep an online album, or store your videos in the cloud.
Overall, this is an exceptional daytime/action camera with some really useful features. The bundle ensures that you can travel with the backup power you need. I highly recommend the GoPro Hero 13 bundle for anyone who's serious about filming, vlogging, or creating action videos.
- Pros/Cons -
*Pros*
- Incredible daylight image quality, 5.3K 60 FPS, 10-bit GP Log
- Voice tuning addition sounds great
- 3 Enduro Batteries
- HyperSmooth 6.0 is top-level stabilization
- Built-in GPS
- Auto Detect on Lens changes
- Dual battery charger is sequential
*Suggestions/Needs Improvement*
- Low Light Performance needs improvement
- Can get hot without airflow at higher resolutions/fps
- Batteries are not compatible with previous models
- Front Screen Touch would be nice

Go Anywhere with the HERO13

Introduction:
I’ve been looking to get an action camera for an upcoming outdoor trip this winter. I wanted it to be able to survive in any weather and be easy to use. I’ve used GoPro’s in the past, so when I saw the GoPro Hero13 was the newest, I decided to pick up one for the trip I want to capture some outdoor adventures on!
Pros:
- Bundle comes with Everything!
- Simple to Use.
- Tough and waterproof.
- Front screen for easy selfies.
Cons:
- Only Water Resistant up to 33 feet, otherwise needs a dive case.
Setup:
GoPro sets you up with everything you’ll need in this bundle with the HERO13: The HERO13 action camera, 3 batteries, a dual battery charger & 2 USB-C cables, a 64GB Micro SD Card, Mounting Hardware, and a sturdy case to carry it all in. Everything you need to keep the fun going, in a convenient carrying case.
Setup was simple with the GoPro Quik Apps guided setup, just install it and follow the prompts to connect to the GoPro HERO13. It has been a while since I’ve had a GoPro, but the ability to control the Action Camera from your phone is amazing! It can even be wirelessly connected to preview what the camera is seeing. No more guessing or having to take it off to check, you can just open your phone and check.
Build:
The GoPro HERO13 is built sturdy for any action, the edges of the body are rubberized plastic and with tough textured plastic on the rest of the body. The buttons are all sealed with rubber caps, preventing any water or dust from weather or environment getting in. The Lens on the HERO13 can be removed in case it needs to be replaced or to swap it out with one of the other compatible lenses, just twist to the Left to remove the lens. To apply a new lens, align the blue marks and twist to the Right. The Lens is hydrophobic lens that helps shed water to keep the image clear, while also being resistant to scratches and shattering for any adventure.
Software:
Both the Camera and App software are very intuitive, being easy to navigate and adjust settings. The Quik app defaults to the GoPro tab on opening, that allows you to control, adjust or view the GoPro from your device. There is also an Albums, Media, and Studio tab. Albums allows you to create and manage your photos and videos within albums. The Media tab is your media on the GoPro and Device. Studio provides suggestions to your photos and videos, mainly taking from those that have been taken with the GoPro, but you can include photos you’ve sourced from other sources.
The Studio tabs Suggestions requires you to give permission to the app to make the edit suggestions, which can be privacy concern for some. I prefer editing the video manually via a program like Photoshop or DaVinci Resolve, though the AI-Enable tools are helpful if they provide a specific look you’re going for. The app does make it easy to quickly and wirelessly download your photos or videos to your devices, which is perfect for if you want to make an edit on the go or just want to back things up before the next take.
Video & Audio:
The Video quality on the HERO13 is amazing with the 27 MP sensor, with formats ranging from 5.3K at 30FPS down to 1080p at 25 FPS. For faster pace activities like sports, there’s recording formats as fast as 240 frames per second at resolutions of 2.7K and 1080p. Slo-Mo is available with different speeds and formats, 8x for 2.7K & 1080p, 4x for 4K, and 2x for 5.3K.
I found the 4K @ 60 FPS worked great for general recording where we were not moving fast or highly active, everyday speed. I’d bump the FPS up to 120 FPS if we were active like running or playing with the dog to get smoother video. But even without the additional FPS the camera video always resulted in steady and smooth recording.
I was very surprised by how clearly the 3 microphones picked up sound. Even within a noise environment or a small room, the audio was very crisp and dynamic, catching the large sounds without distortion and the smallest sounds. I captured a video of our dog running around with the camera, using a make-shift harness, and you could hear his nails on the hardwood as he pranced through the house! I was honestly considering getting a secondary microphone to record separately but don’t think we will need one based on my initial tests.
Batteries Life:
A fully charged battery can provide up to 3 hours of recording time, though your results will vary based on the video resolution and frame rate. I found on average I got 2 hours per battery with my use. GoPro has results of testing listed online within optimal conditions with recording time of 79 minutes at 5.3K 60FPS to 163 minutes at 1080p 30FPS. From my testing so far, this seemed to hold true, within a few minutes.
The bundle includes a Dual Charger which can help recharge 2 batteries while using the 3rd. Recharge varies based on charging 1 or 2 batteries at a time and what charger you use, but with 2 batteries and a fast charger I found both batteries charged in about 1.5 hours. This was fast enough to use 1 battery while charging the other 2, or if you want to record at higher resolutions and fps then use 2 while charging 1 battery.
Mounting & Cases:
The included Mounting hardware is great if you want to attach the camera to a fixed location such as a dashboard or helmet. I’m going to be ordering case I can hang around my neck or strap to my backpack strap, so I can more easily control the direction the camera is facing. I’ve not decided if I’m going to try to use the provided mounting hardware, as I don’t have anything hard to adhere the included bracket too.
Additionally, there is a few different cases you can get that provide additional protection for the camera, like a the Diver Case that provides additional waterproofing for deeper dives. I don’t think I’ll need any of these, but I’ve been considering a different case to be able to clip or attach the action camera easily to a holder on our bags. But I think a simple hanging one will do the trick.
Conclusion:
If you’re looking for an Action Camera that is ready to go, and will keep going as long as you can, then go with the GoPro’s! GoPro is the original action camera and still is the go-to for tough and versatile action cameras. They’re simple to use and offer plenty of protection even in extreme environments and conditions yet keep on going! I’m looking forward to my trip even more knowing I’ll have amazing footage to edit when I return thanks to the GoPro HERO13!

I have been wanting an action camera ever since I got my drone. I am an hobbyist advanced still photographer and have recently started developing my skills in sports photography and videography.
When I started comparing all the features of the different brands, the GoPro Hero13 extended power bundle really checked every box for the kit that I wanted to start with. In addition, GoPro has some really nice accessories for the Hero13 Black that fit with my video/photo plans with the Hero 13 Black. The idea I have is to merge the overhead footage from my drone to the FPV from an action camera at different stages into a single video. I think this would really work beautifully for running, biking, skiing, sailing, or surfing assignments. As soon as I identify my subjects and the weather cooperates, I am hoping to execute this.
I have used the GoPro Hero 13 Black for 5 days now and have tested most of the photo and video functions it offers. I have been very happy with the results, despite a steep learning curve from a still photo camera. I will break my review down in detail below:
1) Hero 13 Build and Setup:
I think the build quality of the GoPro Hero 13 Black is exceptional. The case is very rugged and all of the moving pieces fit tight and securely. It is water resistant to 33 feet, but an optional underwater case can be purchased to extend that depth. It is also encased with a rubberized finish to protect it from scrapes and falls. The lenses are also coated for water repellent and to prevent lens flare.
Having 3 batteries, a 2-battery charger, the hard case and 64Gb microSD card is a big bonus. However, one flaw (in my opinion) is the case contains cardboard dividers separating each piece. The cardboard divider will certainly not last long and I really don't want my Hero 13 (with it's unprotected glass), the 3 batteries, and the charger banging into each other inside the case when I travel.
Setup was simple, but they could have benefited by providing links to some videos to explain the basic operation and main functions for the novice or beginner. Once you turn it on, it prompts you to download the latest firmware updates and completes the setup/registration process. You are then on your own to figure out how to use the different functions. There are several videos that can help by searching the Internet.
2) Taking Photos and Videos.
Taking photos and videos are easy, once you figured out how to use the different functions and options. I tried each of the functions and they provided wonderful results. The Hero 13 will produce 5k video or 24.7MP photos.
I was especially impressed that you have the ability to set an Interval for photos from .5 second to 2 minutes. You can also adjust the digital zoom from Linear (25-31mm) or Wide (16-34mm). You do get some distortion or a fisheye effect on Wide Zoom.
Even more impressive is the 5.3k video quality with very smooth image stabilization. The video results are amazing. You also have several options to choose from when taking videos (i.e., slow motion, standard to wide field of view, standard to high resolution, and HDR or standard video). I tried slow motion on a fast moving river and was hooked. There are so many things that I could do with that feature alone.
3) Editing Photos and Videos using the GoPro Quick App.
After you are finished taking your photos and videos, you then connect it to your phone or tablet via their App. It automatically detects new media and prompts you to download it. The App has limited editing features for videos and none for photos that I could see (at least with the free option). But, the transfer time is exceptionally fast. Once you complete your edits, you just export your media to your phone and from there can do as you like. I do wish it had the ability to save photos as a Raw file that I could edit on my laptop or desktop.
Summary:
Overall, I am very pleased and feel the GoPro Hero 13 Black is the best option for beginners and experienced users. It has great video and photo quality, lots of great features to capture whatever activity you do, all in a rugged, well-built design. In addition, I feel the price for this kit is an exceptional value. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to just have fun or produce professional results.

GoPros have consistently been one of the best choices for active, on-the-go recording. While many other brands have emerged over the years, none have redefined the market quite like GoPro. The downside is that their upgrades are often very incremental. However, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it allows you to purchase a GoPro without worrying about upgrading for several years—unlike with a cellphone, for example.
This set includes everything you need to embark on your adventures, including a dual-battery charger and extra batteries. This kit is a fantastic choice for newcomers eager to start vlogging or simply recording their experiences. There's no need to collect additional accessories after your purchase, so you won't have to budget for extra costs. Everything you need is included.
The last time I got a new GoPro was in 2023, and thankfully, that has become my son's go-to camera while he is out and about. This one has genuinely remarkable image quality and stabilization. It's night and day different, but, in my opinion, the most significant upgrade is the stabilization. Having this one be waterproof, like our older one, is imperative here in the North, where rain and snow are always threatening our non-waterproof tech.
What GoPro manages to fit into such a small camera is always impressive. That's what makes GoPro so awesome. It's quality, yet still affordable compared to other cameras out there. It offers stunning 5.3K video resolution at 60 frames per second and 27-megapixel photos, all contained within something no larger than a small cell phone.
Setting up the camera was a breeze, thanks to an easy interface and design. If you've played around with another GoPro, you'll be at home with this one.

The GoPro Hero13 Black is GoPro’s current top of the line. It has lots of settings and is capable of capturing really good action videos and stills. But to take advantage, you need to do some research since the controls are not intuitive to novice users.
The camera bundle includes three batteries, an external battery charger and two charge cables, simple mount and two 64GB memory cards in a nice, zippered case. Upon unboxing, the first thing I noticed was a very prominent sticker on the camera saying the camera must be updated before use. The easiest way I found to do that was via the GoPro Quick app. But, prior to that, I decided to charge up a battery. That was simple using the external battery charger included in the bundle. The charger will charge two of the special GoPro Hero13 Black batteries at a time. So, you can easily have spare batteries fully charged when you need them.
After a struggle to open the battery compartment and with a fully charged battery and memory card installed, I followed the instructions in the app to connect to the camera and update it.
The camera has lots of options and settings, but they aren’t all intuitive. After some web searches, I found how to set it up correctly to capture some clouds in time lapse. That turned out nice after a couple of tries. On the first try the camera shut down and I found an error indicating the camera had overheated. The ambient temperature was 68 degrees Fahrenheit, so I searched and found suggestions to turn off the camera screens while filming. My next attempt with the screens off was successful.
This GoPro is very versatile. It is waterproof to 33 feet depth without an additional enclosure. Note the thing that looks like a door, just below the mode button is not a door. Its purpose is to drain the microphone after using the camera underwater. So, leave that alone. The actual battery door did give me a lot of trouble. Just pressing and sliding with my thumb didn’t do it. I had to use a big flat head screwdriver and then pick the latch up. After some more research, I found the solution to this problem is to either lubricate the latch with a very small amount of light oil or what I did. Which is with the battery door open, gently but repeatedly work the latch back and forth until it loosens up.
In summary, I was able to overcome the initial hitches. The camera is very nice and produces quality video and photos at a reasonable price (for a quality name brand action camera). It is very versatile. You don’t need the app to use the camera. All of the settings are in the menus on the camera. But the app makes things a little easier.

GoPro Keeps upping their game!
I have used GoPro for many years now for one main reason…It gets the shots I need to make my projects look amazing!
I put together media for the organization I work for from intense action highlight reels to boring training videos and GoPro’s are the go to for my tough and in your face action shots. I also shoot a ton of personal stuff from vacations ect. The new 13 is another step forward in the line up! And now with the HB Series lenses… a new twist. I have not pulled the trigger on the lens set just yet but probably will. I do really like that I can replace the lenses as well if I scratch it or break it. I just don’t know how much better my final products will be compared to what I produce now with the standard camera. Note: I am not a professional videographer per se’ but my stuff has to look professional and it does with the GoPro’s out of the box.
Out of the box, I was happy to see that the 13 works just fine with my GoPro 12 Creator Package and the volta synced right up! I appreciate that Gopro didn’t make me buy all new accessories in general.
The loves: The extended power bundle with three batteries and a stand alone charger is a big love…Hot swap the batteries and keep on shooting! 5.3K video! And 24 MP pics! Super 13X slomo really highlights the movements for dramatic effect! The Bluetooth for mic’s is solid. The hyper smooth 6.0 is amazing. Plus all the normal gopro features water proof ect ect.
Cons: None really, but a new one every year with incremental upgrades gets a little boring.
Overall, It’s just another solid camera by Gopro. I do wish they would develop more stereoscopic VR ready cameras. I know the market is small on that but it would be nice to see and I would love to get into 3d vr stuff. I have some 360 stuff from Gopro Max…I digress. If you need a tough professional quality camera for media… This is it! You just can’t go wrong with the benchmark.

This was the perfect starter package for the serious GoPro user.
Three batteries, two high capacity memory cards, dual capacity charging block, carrying case.
Install and setup took minutes. Updated easily and without issue. Connected to the phones GoPro Quik app easily.
The app has everything you want right there. Full control and connection to Live Streaming at the touch of a button.
Of all the things to critique about the GoPro the biggest is probably the lack of any printed fast-setup instructions.
How do you open this sucker? I was smart enough to look it up online. Its not difficult but it must be done properly and in the right location. Now, I have no problem easily opening the battery door even with bare fingernails with minimal force. But if you DON'T read those instructions ya might accidentally pop open the microphone sink hatch with irreparable damage.
What does this GoPro do? It fits its niche with perfection.
Small form factor, connects to literally anything, poles, head mounts, sticky-anywhere mounts, suction cups.
We all know this. Quality is great considering that its not a multi-thousand dollar video camera.
It gets exploded or falls off a cliff, it's not the end of the world.
I loved the voice operated controls. Control the whole thing with your voice to wherever it's setup.
GoPro is convenience and quality equally matched.
Just for fun I did an A-B test with a high end sony camera still+video camera. The GoPro's output was honestly fine with the major difference in being noise. Which is totally to be expected.
GoPros camera app does everything you need it to do. The GoPro desktop player is bare minimal but with the ability to create trimmed clips with ease.
Audio.. surprisingly good. You don't even have to fiddle with the gain. It's just already correct. That's another big plus. You get quality output for everything without having to get into the details.
If you shoot video on location with action... you'll simply end up using one of these.. or 3 or 6 or more.

This is my second Hero 13 Black

I work in healthcare, specifically in surgeries and one of my surgeons wanted a way to record surgeries from a POV for educational purposes (with patients consent of course).
so I researched for the most effective, customizable, and cost effective option available and pulled the trigger on a GoPro Hero 13 Black, and bought with it an Enduro battery pack and Enduro battery charger because those surgeries run long and swapping batteries is needed.
after a while I was able to use a portable power bank to keep power on for longer periods without the need to swapping the batteries.
the customizability of the GoPro Hero 13 Black and the ease of use of its interface made me fall in love with it and I decided to get one for me personally for a variety of things i do.
I wanted a way to record my work outs at home to work on my movements, I also like to do some rock wall climbing for fun and i also try to do a couple trips Hiking in interesting places twice a year. so the Hero 13 Black is the perfect companion for that, it is versatile, has a ton of accessories that can be bought for cheap and the cloud export makes it easy to work on footage.
pound for pound, there is nothing that beats the quality at this price point.
3 batteries, fast charger, starter mounts, carry case and a 64 GB SD card. this is a great deal!

It seems like I just upgraded to the Hero 11 Black... And now I'm upgrading to the Hero 13 Black! Well I'll tell you I considered the Hero 12 last year, but the lack of GPS tagging was a show stopper for me (period). Now that the Hero 13 has GPS, and improved motion stabilization (HyperSmooth 6.0) with longer battery life and a 156° Field of View. I'm a sucker for the next version. To be honest I had all sorts of overheating problems with the Hero 11, especially with static 4k shooting. But I really loved using it to film podcasts in 4k and editing down to 1080p with either a landscape or portrait orientation and not cropping off image data. I've been using the 11 with the creators tripod ("Volta"), which can provide additional power to the camera, and act as camera grip and as a remote control for the camera. The good news is the 13 can still use the "Volta". But the 13 can't use the same batteries as the 11. But the new batteries offer a longer charge. They have also improved the HDR Video (which I thought was pretty good already) with HLG HDR (Hybrid Log Gamma High Dynamic Range). And still photos now use a 27MP sensor (a step up, but not state of the art for cameras). They claim to have enhanced the microphone, I'll still likely use a wireless mic for podcasts; but this enhancement now allows you to use Apple AirPods or any Bluetooth earbuds or other wireless mics during filming or narration PLUS you can give voice commands remotely and hear alerts from your camera. The camera now has Audio Tuning, in “Standard Mode” audio mode delivers true-to-life audio, while in “Voice Mode” prioritizes your voice over other ambient sounds.
The GoPro 13 supports many new accessories. Including a 'Contacto' Magnetic Door and Power Cable Kit. A Ultra Wide Lens Mod, a Macro Lens Mod, a ND Filter 4-Pack (ND4,ND8,ND16,ND32), Max Lens Mod 2.0 (Ultra Wide Angle POV Lens), Cinematic Ultra Wide Angle Lens, Max Lens Mod (Upgrade stabilization + field of view), Light Mod (Camera LED Light Accessory, Fluid Pro AI (Multi-Device Gimbal Stabilizer With AI Tracking) and a Display Mod Front Facing Camera Screen. I've always used my GoPro with a cage so that I could attach other devices via cold shoe connectors. The Media Mod has 2 cold shoes with a USB connector in/out which breaks out a HDMI connector and attaches an improved microphone with windscreen. If you want to use the Display Mod front facing camera screen the media mod cage must also be used. I do think the "Contactto" door plus cable should be part of the standard product considering that competing products include magnetic connectors.
When I put two (nearly depleted) batteries into the external charger, I expected it to take about 2 hours for them to charge. But I found that the charger determines which battery is the most charged, and charges that battery. After finishing the first battery it then charges the second, so charging time for 2 depleted batteries took almost 4 hours. So the new batteries (1900mAh each) last about 2.5 hrs when shooting 1080p, and closer to 100min when shooting 4K and 90min at 5K (w/voice control and GPS off). They are also supposed to be better at low temperatures, running better in below-freezing temperatures down to 14°F (-10°). In my testing I was shooting 5K with HyperSmooth enabled and GPS enabled. When I started to transfer via the Quik App (wirelessly) I encountered an overheating error. Upon research, GoPro suggests turning HyperSmooth and GPS off when they are not "required" (to reduce overheating). With my GoPro 11 I would have never gotten 60m of 5K video recorded continuously with WiFi+GPS enabled. With my GoPro 11 I'd conditioned myself to disable WiFi when shooting 4 or 5K (and disable hypersmooth when using a tripod (when it's necessary). So simple testing says the GoPro 13 is better, but with too many features enabled there are still issues (this was with it 85 degrees outside, not the 110+ degrees Isometimes shoot in the AZ summer). One 'trick' I found to prevent overheating, is to remove the battery from the camera and attach it to the "Volta" tripod (which has a 4900mAh battery in it (more than 2.5x the power of the new batteries)); I've never had an overheating issues when the camera has no battery in it (drawing more power from the battery is what causes the additional heat). In testing I must say that the new HyperSmooth 6 is incredibly good. It was very good before, it's now great.
I really like the wider field of view and better zoom (35mm Equivalent) (GP13: 12 to 39mm vs GP11: 15.1mm to 24.4mm); the 2x digital zoom is very nice to have, but it sacrifices quality, it will likely remain disabled. I have yet to use the H.265 IP Streaming (1920 x 1080) but I will likely use it on an external monitor if I'm not using the Media Mods HDMI output. The faster max shutter speed (1/2000s vs 1/480) is nice with full sunlight, and nice to be able to set directly. I didn't have access to any of the new lens', but I understand that the GP13 can automatically detect what lens mod is attached (a nice feature). I did some testing using the HLG HDR, and found that some of my computer monitors/4K TV's supported it; on others it made no difference. So it must be a new feature that did not exist on older products. I am really glad they brought back GPS support (was missing on GP12). I also think the audio quality from the camera alone has improved. With the Media Mod case/mic I could not hear a difference. Transferring photos/video via Wi-Fi seemed a little zippier. Using the camera attached via USB-C, files transfered MUCH faster (USB 2 vs USB 3 I suspect). But the best new feature is the inclusion of BT audio. The ability to use my favorite BT earbuds (including airpods) to transmit audio to/from when paired to the GoPro13 was the best reason to upgrade. I have wireless mics, but they don't compare to then multiple mics built into my Technics, Denon & Bose Earbuds which are so much better The ability to pair and use them with their echo cancelation is a much cleaner solution (not less expensive if you don't already have them). GoPro is obviously looking at what their competitors are offering, and stepping up their game. I can't say the video quality is much different from the GP11. The still shots are (or can be), and the ability to take a still while shooting video is much improved. For me the GP13 is a worthy improvement over the GP11.

Once you use a Go Pro it’s easy to see why they’re the target of other action cam manufacturers! From the features to the ease of use, it’s easy to get cool pics and videos even if you’re not a pro! Coming from a Hero10 the upgrades and features are definitely nice.
You get three batteries, a nice charger that charges two batteries simultaneously, two USB-C to USB-C cables, a micro sd card, camera and case. I wish the case had built in customizable dividers besides the card board inserts that come with it.
Hypersmooth 4.0 on the 10 was already first rate and 6.0 on the 13 is that much better. One big thing is the transfer speed from camera to app is much faster as well as connecting to the camera with Bluetooth. Probably my favorite features of the 13 are star trails, light painting and vehicle light trails. These three features make it easy to get some really cool video and photos that will definitely amaze your friends and family. Another cool feature is burst slow-mo, I’ve used regular slow-mo on my phone but this is the first time I’ve ever seen burst slow-mo. The GoPro 13 just continues to improve on what was already an awesome and industry leading action cam, that can help even the novice get cool footage!

The GoPro Hero 13 Extended Power Bundle is perfect for those who want the most battery life out of their GoPro and who already have existing GoPro mounting hardware.
The Extended Power Bundle comes with a hard case, three enduro batteries, battery charger, 64GB SanDisk MicroSD card, adhesive mount and two USB Type-C cables. The new enduro batteries introduced with the Hero 13 are 1,900mAh. A slight improvement over the 1,720mAh battery of the Hero 12. It is important to note that the Hero 12 and Hero 13 batteries are incompatible with each other. A bummer for those with stockpiled Hero 9-12 batteries.
Setup is simple; however, you have to scan a QR code to download the “GoPro Quik app to complete. The GoPro is unusable without the app, which prompts a camera update upon initial setup. Update is quick, and setup is simple.
The GoPro Hero 13’s hardware is nearly identical to the Hero 12. The Hero 13 utilizes the same 27 MP 1/1.9 CMOS sensor with the same 5.3K maximum resolution at 30fps. A 8:7 aspect ratio allows for the camera to record in both widescreen and vertical, no matter the camera’s physical orientation. Additionally, the same return
However, the Hero 13 comes with a few key upgrades. Notably, built-in GPS returns with the Hero 13, allowing for the overlay of GPS data in videos. This is a welcome feature for racing and FPV drone videos.
Another advantage of the Hero 13 over its predecessor is the ability to attach a wider variety of new external lenses. These include ND filters, ultra-wide, macro, and anamorphic lenses.
Additionally, the video engine received an upgrade with additional slow-motion options immediately available in the UI, and an improved HDR profile.
The GoPro states it can record for 2 hours and 40 minutes with the included 64GB SD card on its default 4K30 video preset. Recording in HDR cuts this down to only 1 hour and 20 minutes of video. With 1080p60 it can record 3H:50 worth of video.
Note that the Extended Power Bundle only comes with a single adhesive mount. This is perfectly fine for me, as I have amassed a multitude of different GoPro mounts over the years. However, this is something to consider for a first-time buyer, as mounts will have to be purchased separately.
Personally, I have used the adhesive mounts to attach my camera to rowing shells. In practice, the Hero 13 does an amazing job at capturing action on the water during races, while maintaining a stabilized video. Integrated GPS now allows me to overlay the course routes as well as boats race across the water. GoPro quick detach mounting system works well when having to swap the camera quickly between different shells
Overall, the GoPro Hero 13 Extended Power Bundle is ideal for those demanding maximum runtime for their action camera for longer shoots.

If you are planning to pick up the new GoPro HERO13 Black, getting it as a bundle with additional batteries and a charger from Best Buy is an absolute no-brainer. One of the biggest hurdles for action camera users is battery life, especially when shooting in high-resolution 5.3K or high-frame rates. Having those extra Enduro batteries on hand ensures that you never miss a moment because of a dead camera.
The HERO13 Black introduces significant upgrades, but it’s the peace of mind provided by the dual-battery charger that really completes the experience. You can have one set of batteries charging in your bag while you're out capturing footage, making it perfect for travel, hiking, or long days at the track. Best Buy often pairs these essentials with competitive pricing or gift card offers, making it the most cost-effective way to build a professional kit from day one. Instead of buying accessories piece-by-piece later at a higher cost, this deal sets you up for success immediately. For anyone serious about content creation, this bundle provides the reliability and endurance needed to push the GoPro to its full potential.
