Great Contender vs Samsung TV's

I'm writing this review after having the TV for more than a year. Purchased this TV instead of opting for the more expensive Samsung option and I'm glad that this is a great contender.
The image quality looks great on regular 1080p content as it should and even better when watching 4K content or movies/shows with Dolby Vision.
Sound is average, buyer's preference if they want to buy a set of 5.1 or better speakers to support the watching experience.

Just installed Hisense U7 55", unboxing was easy and intuitive. A little bit excessive with taping, especially on the screen, I understand it's necessary for shipping, but it could be done in a little bit more user-friendly manner. TV stands that attach to the bottom of TV are made of solid metal and feel very premium and super sturdy. TV weight is decent and allows for one person installation. Set-up is very easy and user-friendly including connecting to home Wi-Fi and syncing accounts. Within 5 minutes I was already watching Netflix and watching music video of my YouTube account. Sound quality is OK but if you have sound bar, you'd probably want to continue using it. Picture quality and colors are absolutely amazing, 4k resolution is noticeable right away and it makes the new purchase so worth it. It is my first Hisense TV, so I was a bit cautious about the new brand but so far, all the first impressions I had are really good. I replaced my current TV with Hisense U7 55” in my living room and I don't regret.

This TV is so awesome that I bought two of them. My wife and I can sit here and watch TV or games separately as we wish. I’ll buy another even. Hdmi 2.1 for your 120fps gaming is what hit me!

I love this product overall for the price a 4K Quantum dot tv, there is not another TV in this price point for this visual quality. I did initially struggle with the audio quality changing the values in settings to support wall mount, as well as tweaking the equalizer helped as well. After tuning the audio quality we have been very happy with the TV. The Android TV software and framework is quick and very efficient. I loved moving from an older Samsung to this because loading streaming platforms often took a while, where was here it was almost instant. The Television going to screen saver after 5 minutes of being paused was awesome. I did have to learn that the screen saver did not mean that the streaming program underneath it was stopped, so pressing play allowed for a quick return to the show or movie I was watching. If there was any negative to discuss it would be the remote control, a nice high quality TV like this should have a remote the reflects the price / performance range being targeted. I love the Bluetooth, as well as the remote buttons for direct launching specific apps. We have had a hard time with Bluetooth being as easy to initially use but got it figured out. Using the remote on the phone is awesome as well. The remote while functional does feel low quality, some additional robustness and an optional programmable button for a specific app would be amazing as well. I read many reviews for a gaming tv under $1000 and I decided this model had more features for the price. Android tv works great. I recommend a basic sound bar for this tv. The built in speakers are average. Make sure and use hdmi port 3 or 4 for the Ps5 or Xbox Series X. It actually went on sale after I purchased it and I saved a hundred and seventy dollars of the normal price.

My honest opinion for this tv is that its a great but for the price. The picture for me is the the most important thing and it looks amazing and specially on games on which its designed for. Unlike other brands this tv's audio is awsome you can definitely
hear all around the house what i'm playing that's how powerfull the speakers are. The tv is also very light to hang and mount on wall if desired, it's also designed not too bulky and that's always a plus. I would definitely recommend Hisense to others.

I wasn't sure of what to expect with this TV but when I got home and hooked it all up I was pleasantly surprised! The box said it had one DisplayPort at 120 hertz. but when I opened it; it actually has 2 display ports and 120hz I hooked my PS5 in and also my PC as well. With my RTX 3070. and it has freesync capabilities! so I'm able to game at 150 Hertz when I turn on G-sync as well (in some game titles). But make sure you turn off "vsync" if you want to go into higher frame rates AT 4K! when gaming on PC. With freesync turned on the TV and Gsync turned on with my GPU. I'm gaming in like a computer monitor. In some titles like GTA 5 AT 4K 4096-2160P!! I have seen up to a 130 FPS

I am highly impressed with this TV. My main reason for purchasing it was for my Xbox Series X and man does it run smoothly. Being able to play in 4K 120hz with Dolby Vision with such low input lag is AMAZING! I would recommend this to anyone that is budget minded but wants the most for your buck. Worth every penny.

This is the first TV that I had to do minimal adjustments to after taking it out of the box. The previous TV I’ve been gaming with is about 10 years old, so this is a significant upgrade. I was extremely impressed unpacking this TV, plugging it in and connecting my PS4. It’s currently in my bedroom, which doesn’t get a ton of light. After a few minor adjustments, the TV was rocking.
Amazing picture for gaming. Make your adjustments and see what’s best for your room and you’ll be surprised. It’s crisp, has great and real color and the graphics are mesmerizing. After playing around with brightness and contrast, there are no complaints on my end. I’m able to stream my 4K content with ease. I feel like previous TV didn’t do my ps4 graphics the justice it deserves. My brother brought his PS5 over the other day and oh my it blew my mind.
I can’t stress this enough. Find the calibrations that work best for the room you’re in. You can find a baseline online, but then make the minor tweaks for your needs. This is the first TV that I’m super impressed with how the black looks. After making some adjustments there’s no bleeding and it’s crisp.
The sound. So I know most people will want to use a sound bar or surround sound. BUUTT. I’m extremely surprised and impressed with the sound of this tv. I’m seriously considering not connecting my sound bar to this tv.
Pros:
Perfect for the price!
Excellent for gamers
Picture
Advanced picture options
Sound is great for a TV
“Hey Google” feature is cool!
Easy to navigate
Remote is light and has the basics
Lightweight
Android TV
4 hdmi connections
Cons:
Remote feels a tad cheap
Tape around the TV screen took a while to remove
Overall:
You can’t beat the current price. If you are a gamer with a next gen system, then buy this TV. It is excellent! The price has come down quite a bit over the last few months, so I highly highly recommend it. Great bang for the budget. You seriously can’t go wrong at this price.

Those looking for a 4K TV that has all the bells and whistles and checks all the features and specification boxes at a bargain price won't be disappointed with this one. Hisense is China-owned, but the TV is made in Mexico (at least mine was).
Black electrical tape comes in handy for covering the ridiculous, four (as if one wasn't enough), continuous, yellow LEDs that pester you about the built-in mic being switched off via control panel physical switch. While checking menu settings, I discovered a work-around to turn these lights off using the remote – the procedure is in the final section of this review (below the separator line). *
Right after first powering it up and setting up the Wi-Fi, I viewed a number of 4K HDR, Dolby Vision and IMAX videos, up to 60fps. I'm blown away by how good the picture is for $600. With the proper setup, colors are rich, vibrant and accurate, blacks are surprisingly dark and contrast is thus very good. Those who like their visuals super bright are accommodated. Calibration may be necessary for perfectionists, but mine was properly cal'd at the factory.
Though this TV is designed with gamers in mind, there's a plethora of settings for movie viewing as well. Settings can be applied to all sources or current source. Among the many separate modes are HDR, Dolby Vision and IMAX. Those 3 don't appear in the mode list by default and thus cannot be selected manually. The TV must detect these signals/protocols first from the source material, then their respective menus are enabled and can be set up to the extent allowed by the TV.
It being a VA panel, one must sit pretty much dead center in front of it or dramatic fade/wash out will be experienced. VA panels are not best for a group of people who will be sitting beside one another, especially if viewing will be done relatively close to the screen. When viewing angle is important, the better option with LCD is an IPS type panel, which the 75" version of this TV reportedly is.
I've run my unit through various display tests every so often. After a month and a half of using it almost 24/7, I don't have any issues such as dead or stuck pixels. The only flaw, present from day one, is mild shadowing on the far edges and corners, which is common with LCD displays. This is most noticeable with white backgrounds. Those who find it annoying while using the TV as PC monitor, for example, can simply scale the desktop down (underscan), which will eliminate this shadowing.
The rainbow text effect – e.g., using the TV as PC monitor – can be eliminated, or at least dramatically reduced, by turning on Instant Game Response in TV Menu>Settings>Picture>Advanced. Only certain picture modes allow the user to change this setting – I use Standard mode while doing PC work.
Interpolated motion compensation (Soap Opera Effect) is executed reasonably well. I tend to not use it, as the 120Hz native refresh rate of this model usually means no motion problems. I find that live sports, for example, look just fine with motion enhancement turned off. Only certain picture modes allow the user to change this setting.
Upscaling is done reasonably well, though quality is inconsistent. I have had major artifacting, edge crawl, jaggies, etc. with some videos, but others of the same resolution, codec, playback app and source are as good as one would expect from a high end brand TV. I haven't found a common culprit among the worse results. There's obviously something in the occasional source material that the TV doesn't like, but I haven't nailed it down.
I only stream, so I don't use an antenna, but I did test the tuner just to make sure it works and it seemed to pull in weak channels reasonably well. The proper antenna should yield good results. This TV does not have an ATSC-3 tuner.
The sound is what most would expect from small TV speakers. It's not bad, but not great, either. Those wanting high quality sound and bass probably already have or plan to purchase a sound bar or other system anyway.
There's a 5 band EQ in the TV audio settings, and it can help some when using the built-in speakers.
Dolby Atmos is built-in, and the TV will automagically enable it when streaming such media. It can be enabled/disabled at will. The virtual surround effect works surprisingly well, at least with my room's acoustics. The effect varies in degree and accuracy, of course, depending on source material and where and how the TV is installed. I have mine on the stands, so I can't speak to how well it works when wall-mounted.
There are settings for digital audio delay and lip sync. There's also an auto volume control/leveling toggle.
There's no line output on this TV, which would have been helpful for those who use it as their PC monitor and don't have an eARC-ready card. The headphone out to PC line in works, though, and level tweaking helps prevent clipping for the most part.
The TV doesn't remember the headphone volume setting after turning it fully off or restarting it – i.e., when Android boots. It defaults to level 10 when using the variable volume option. In my case, this means I must crank it up to around 60 every time I power on (cold boot) or restart the TV. This could easily and may be fixed via firmware update.
Of course, the headphone output is limited to 2 channels.
I will be using the optical output of the TV in the future, which will solve all of those issues.
The TV does remember speaker volume.
I didn't buy this TV primarily for gaming and haven't hooked up a game box or PC with 4K to test things like input lag or motion issues. But, I did want the capabilities if/when I do choose to game with it. The TV is capable of 4K @ 120Hz via the two HDMI 2.1 ports (one of them supports eARC). Reviews are all over the place regarding how well this model handles 4K @ 120Hz, from "It doesn't work at all" to "It works perfectly". Updating to the latest firmware seems to have solved issues for some users, but not all. <shrugh>

* And now, the annoying yellow mic lights and how to turn them OFF. Google Assistant can be disabled in the TV menu, but doing so doesn't turn off the mic lights. Rather than being user-friendly with a menu option to disable the mic reminder, they chose to continuously beam 4 bright LEDs into the user's eyes from a prominent location. I feel like Picard while being tortured on TNG, "There are FOUR LIGHTS!!!". Maybe the engineers are Star Trek fans. ugh...
A working WIRELESS network connection is required. No wireless network connection = no turning off the LEDs using this method.
1.) Go to Settings>Network & Internet and turn Wi-Fi off.
2.) Turn TV fully off by long pressing REMOTE power button. Long pressing power button on TV puts it in Store Mode (as in retail store); no joy. Short pressing remote power button puts TV in standby; no joy. After long pressing remote power button, a prompt appears. Select either Power off or Restart, then hit OK on the remote.
3.) If Power off option was selected, wait for yellow lights to go off plus several seconds, then turn TV on. If Restart was selected, yellow lights will not go off.
4.) Wait for Android OS to boot up and home screen to complete loading.
5.) Go to Settings>Network & Internet and turn Wi-Fi on.
6.) Wait for TV to connect to network – manual connection may be necessary if it doesn't automatically find and connect. Yellow lights go off immediately after TV connects.
7.) Enjoy!
These yellow LEDs will come back on if the TV is turned fully off (i.e., not standby) or Restarted with Wi-Fi still enabled – Wi-Fi MUST be disabled at the time Android OS boots up.
The LEDs will also come back on if Google Search/Assistant is used directly (e.g., via home screen) or via app. Fortunately, most apps don't use Google Search/Assistant.
These LEDs cannot be turned off when using the Ethernet connection, as there is no menu provision for disabling Ethernet, and I'm betting that Hisense will ultimately correct this wireless oversight with a firmware update. Hence, you may need that black electrical tape eventually with Wi-Fi, and you will need it right now with Ethernet connection.
I deducted the star because of this Hisense NONsense.

The impressive budget 4k@120Hz TV

Wait for almost 2 weeks for this TV to arrive. TV looked great and easy to unpack. The Hisense U7G is a mid-range model in Hisense. The Hisense U7G has a simple yet high-quality look.
The Hisense U7G supports Both Dolby Vision and HDR10. The picture quality in dark environments is really good, and HDR enhanced the high peak brightness. Thanks to the 120 Hz panel, paired with the very low response time of ~5 ms, the U7G can display motions very smoothly. The U7G has HDMI 2.1 interface which is suitable for a 4K 120Hz refresh rate for gaming.
The Hisense U7G native sound is loud enough but lacks bass. The U7G support an HDMI-eARC port, hence U7G can transmit uncompressed Dolby Atmos via a Dolby True HD. The TV also fully supports DTS codecs. Thus, you can use any receiver and soundbar to improve the sound quality.
U7G is an Android 10 TV, it gives you a good user experience. It is easy to navigate through the menus and the app. I can use Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, and Disney+. U7G has Google Voice control build-in, you can use Google voice control to do the Google Search.
The only feature U7G lacks is the viewing angle, it is quite narrow. You have to sit in front of the TV to enjoy the quality.
Overall, U7G is a impressive budget TV, with this price range. It give the excellent user experience and price. The viewing angles, it is expected from a VA panel. But, low input lag, a good response time, 4K 120Hz and HDMI2.1 port make U7G more suitable for gaming.
