HP Envy 17.3 Laptop

My HP Envy 17.3 was purchased in July of 2019 and not 2020. I liked it a lot, until it started having some issues. My first-time experience with the HP brand has not been good. I'd been an Asus user for over 10 years, and decided to switch. (Matter of fact, I still have that oil Asus laptop.)
Bought this HP unit and in trying to download office, Office 365, something went wrong. Had to purchase a new operating system in 2020. Neither the video nor audio are the best. Also, battery life also, is not what the claims are. I'm having to purchase external equipment for Live video recording, though it has been working well with Zoom. My personal videos come out really grainy and blurry. There is a rubber piece that covers the screws on the bottom, now that is stretched, and when you try to put it back, the glue gets all over things, so I have to put tape over it to keep it in. The internal disc player is really bad, very, very cheaply made! It won't play certain CDs and I can't copy over to it, so I never use it. Terrible! When you don't have a lot of money to spend, sometimes you either make it work the best you can, or settle, until you can have a better experience.
Its virtues include: the size of the screen, the Solid State Drive, Large Memory and it is nice looking. Many things about it, you learn as you go. I dealt with a medical issue not long after my purchase, so I missed the warranty time. so, you make it work. You purchase other things to make up for its flaws or be patients and wait for a time when you can afford to get something better.

I generally have had good success with "open box" items. I like the HP Envy laptop, what I don't like is that there was no forewarning that this PC could not be set up for the full 1-year purchase warranty. The warranty expires in May! It was a shelf model AND a return. And since it didn't have the usual sticker on the back, registering it meant I had the wrong information because neither the serial number or model number was on any of the labels. Bad on Best Buy for not having the proper information on the computer and for NOT noting that the computer had only limited warranty left.

I am a CPA and my tax software no longer will use Windows 7 due to Microsoft dropping support. I purchased the computer for Windows 10. I wanted a CD drive and I didn't have many to choose from.

Replaced my old HP Envy after it was hacked and the hinge broke. This one exceeds the previous capabilities in every respect.

Smaller footprint thin bezel touch 17 inch laptop...
There was nothing wrong with my 4 year old 2 in 1 touch screen 15.6 laptop, but I want a a slightly bigger screen with small footprint , so I saw these 2019 thin bezel laptops, which are about the same size of what I have... my first choice was the LG 17 Gram, but after seeing the specs on the HP Envy 17 I decided on the latter... the HP is 3 lbs heavier than the Gram..at Full HD has a lower resolution than the Gram and 12gb vs 16gb ram but is $500 cheaper, has an optical drive which I still use a lot. At 17 inch the extra resolution is negligible in most cases..The Envy have touch screen, while the Gram does not. The extra weight on the Envy makes it feel solidly build, they both have 500 gb of Nvme ssd... with the HP having an extra 32gb Optane... I personally do not see the benefit of the Optane because it is already using an m.2 ssd drive.. My desktop boot faster than this laptop with just regular SSD without Optane memory..., the Envy have the upgraded GeForce Mx250 graphics, so for light gamers that would a plus being 30% faster than the last year models with Mx150. And I am thinking the $500 I saved will be used for an extra storage at least 1 tb of ssd..The backlit keyboard is very good, typing is faster than my other laptop... the camera has an on and off switch..for privacy..It has the B&O speakers on it, I had own some Bank & Olufsen products before...I am still using B&O H7 headphones .. the name do not make any difference on the sound of this laptop, if you are using the built in speakers the sound will be the same as any other no name speakers, because they are tiny. I prefer using my very portable Marshall Stockwell as speakers and it's no contest.
The first day using the Envy was fine... but the next day for some reason the biometrics section on the device manager disappeared and would not let me log in using the fingerprint reader ... could not login at all.. had to reset it twice...almost returned it..but after resetting it the 2nd time I was able to configure it the way I want it... upgraded the Bios and so far it is working and the biometrics are back, I installed some of the applications that I use and it has not given me any problem yet...Now as far as the battery life is concern, the projected time of use is 10 hours plus, I am only getting 6 plus hours of light use, a little gaming and video streaming, still better that some but not as good as advertised, the only other thing that I wish that work (not exclusive to this model, most laptops have the same problems regardless of the brand) is the Nvidia Control panel, it is useless because the options for video adjustment are not there..I know this is due to Intel Graphics DCH controller..and there is no workaround it. I am hoping that this will be resolved.. until then I think I will be keeping it.. for awhile at least. so if you are looking for a 17 inch thin bezel touch screen laptop I recommend this one, beside the fact that it is cheaper than the last year model, with older graphic controller and with out ssd.

I have not had a new laptop for over 7 years and spent a lot of time reviewing specs on a new laptop that I needed for my day trading business while I was traveling.
This laptop provide amazing fast response of my trading applications and a crisp graphics display for all the real time trading charts. My commands with the apps have zero wait time with the 12gb RAM plus octane plus the solid state disk drive. This is an awesome combination and I can say that I don’t believe there is a better laptop fdornthe money.
I have worked at Intel and AMD and did a lot of research before I made this purchase.
My only negative is I need to figure out how to disable the touchpad while using my wireless mouse as it is very sensitive to any touch.
The brushed stainless finish is very attractive and easy to keep clean.
You will not be disappointed!!!!

Finally - An HP Laptop That REALLY Works

I've had HP laptops before. Even with i7 processors, tons of memory and whatever else, they always seemed to be sluggish at best. But this machine really moves. Everything finally loads quickly and without the delightful blue circles. If you have never done a touch-screen (kind of rare on a 17.3" laptop), you need to be careful, esp. when showing someone something on your computer. And with that silver finish, it gets to be almost impossible to see your keys with the back-lighting on - an annoyance, but you just have to turn it off. First laptop that has two brightness settings for the keyboard back-lighting. Battery is also by far the best I've used. HIGHLY recommendable.

Very nice screen. It is nice to have a larger screen but still have a portable item. It is much light than my last one which was a five or six year old HP. Speakers are anemic but I like loud music.....
Very High end look and feel. No issues so far.

This is a great computer but I constantly have to charge it. It is a huge problem for me, I actually started to look at different computers because of it.
Other than that i do like it. Wish something can be done.

I bought this to replace my laptop that decided it was time to due after 49 months! The choices available both in store and online were very limited with the features I wanted/needed. I loved the old one and wanted the same features. The touch screen is awesome and so is the size. I am an accountant and have to have the number pad. The speed is phenomenal, like the SSD memory, only wish it could have been a full terabyte. Like the fact it has an optical drive so I do not have to plug in an external one. Also has an ethernet port, another bonus. Sign in with fingerprint recognition is another great feature. So far, I am happy with the purchase. Having a hard time trying to find a carrying case for it as it is just slightly deeper than my old one and will not fit the old case. Not a backpack person.

Looked around quite a while before seeing this laptop. It has a large screen (with excellent picture quality), backlit keyboard, runs really fast and looks great, too! The only downside would be that the battery runs low pretty fast but since I usually use it at my desk, I just plug it in when it gets low and continue working. The price was excellent and I would definitely recommend this laptop.

This laptop which I’ve had almost a year works really well for my needs. I use it for work and for myself to watch YouTube and movies and I just love the ease of use and the touchscreen. My son uses the touchscreen mostly because he’s five and likes to play on it. I am still learning new things to work on it and it’s very intuitive learning how to scroll and maximize and minimize and stuff like that. It’s pretty good and it’s so fast and reliable. I am glad I bought this. I was thinking of getting the Apple laptop but this one I’m happy with. No complaints here!

Always been a fan of the HP laptops, this is my third one, and the only time I wasn't happy was when I went to the economy version of a laptop after someone stole mine. This laptop runs great, is fast, and have had virtually no issues. My only complaint would be the new battery set-up. I have had two occasions when I couldn't shut down, and in the good old days I would remove the battery. Can't do that now. Finally figured out to just keep holding the power button until it restarts.

This is the 4th HP computer (laptop) I have purchased and I love it. I am not technologically inclined so ease of operation is paramount. I always look at other brands--in fact I had bought the Apple imac but returned it when I discovered it had no touch screen. As I am arthritic, this feature is invaluable. I have also become accustomed to a 17 inch scree and choices become very limited when combining the necessity for touch screen and seventeen inc screen. And this model of ENVY has Bang and Olufsen speakers. How much better can it get?

Ok, I bought this as an open box, which I've never done before so I was naturally extremely reluctant. At first glance, the computer seemed to actually be in very good condition (although Best Buy had it classified as "satisfactory". When I brought it home, I immediately noticed an issue with the speakers. After some troubleshooting with my boyfriend, he was able to re-install the sound drivers and everything worked good as new!
The quality of the computer itself and the material it's made out of is amazing! For as big as the screen it, it is surprisingly much lighter than I anticipated. Lightning fast, and able to keep up with my ridiculous multitasking. I had multiple screen open, multiple windows applications downloading, plus downloading my Adobe software, all while listening to music. Everything moved without issue. The screen clarify and graphics are far better than I expected, and the touch response is great. Sound quality is "ok". Not the greatest speakers, but they aren't bad either. They do the job.
The backlit keyboard is a must for me, and there are different levels of brightness to adjust to your surroundings. The extra large mouse pad is a huge plus and very responsive as well.
All in all, I'm glad I ended up purchasing this computer rather than going for the Surface Pro X, that I was originally going to buy. I'd rather have the much larger screen vs. portability.
