Finally one that works with my setup

For over a year I have been frustrated with needing four remotes to work on my very uncomplicated TV/BluRay/Roku/sound bar. While it is pretty easy to find a universal remote for TVs and DVDs it is a bit more difficult to find one that works with Roku and darn near impossible to find one for a sound bar. This was really frustrating me especially since my TV and sound bar are both the Insignia brand. (Why not make them work together?) I had looked at several universal remotes but none seemed to fit the bill for me. At least one that I would be willing to spend the money on. Can't justify a $350 remote for a $350 TV setup. So when I saw this at Best Buy I was really interested to see if it worked. I did some checking online and it said it worked with the Roku. Great! But what about the sound bar? I saw some suggestions online so I figured I would give it a try. Works like a charm. Controls all of my devices perfectly. Setup was very simple and my codes worked first time except the sound bar. I had to try two different ones for that. It doesn't say it anywhere on the package but it does require 2 AA batteries that are not included. My only complaint is there is no eject button for the BluRay/DVD. Also there is a row of colored buttons that are not explained anywhere. Don't see to do anything with my stuff. In my opinion this a very solid remote and does what it should.

I didn't want to spend too much money, but I wanted a functional remote to replace the DVD remote I lost (and, of course, found shortly after buying this: The best way to find something you've lost is to buy its replacement). I had no trouble programming it, it works fine, it controls everything I've asked it to. I particularly like the ease of programming. I always bring a universal remote with me when I travel. Some hotels use these remotes that couldn't pick their nose, let alone pick an input. If I want to hook my laptop into the TV, I want the option to do so. Sometimes these "hotel remotes" don't allow for that function, although I've never seen a TV that couldn't select different inputs. Travelling with your own remote pretty much puts an end to that, IF you can get it to hook up with the hotel TV. I've had remotes that were a pain to program, that wouldn't work with certain brands, whatever. However, this one does everything I've asked it to do with an ease of operation that I truly appreciate.

Recently I came home from a gig (I'm a magician). I picked up the remote and immediately knew something was wrong. My Insignia Remote Control no longer had that smooth feel in my hand. The back was rough with sharp edges. I looked more closely and realized that my beloved remote had been chewed up. I looked around the room and quickly spotted the culprit. A new dog had come into our family, he's a beautiful German Shepherd that someone had abandoned. Occasionally, he picks things up off the coffee table and chews on them. He also puts those items back on the coffee table when he is done with them. I was about to give up on my night of television when I realized that it was only 7:00 pm and that Best Buy was still open. I quickly went online to see if they had a replacement for my digital doggie chew toy. They did AND they had them in stock at my closest location. Ten minutes later I paying the helpful clerk and heading back home. I got home and grabbed a soda out of my fridge. I opened the soft drink and plopped back down in front of television with my new remote in hand. I found what I wanted to watch and settled in. I took a drink off my soda and started to put the can on a coaster on the coffee table. That's when I looked across the room to see that dog with the coasters in his mouth.

    Works with all my devices

I bought this about a year ago forgot to write this review. My main reason for buying this remote is because of my Vizio soundbar didn't work with my Spectrum remote and there wasn't good info in making that work, I didn't want to buy an expensive universal remote, and at the time I did have an Insignia TV in my room. I bought an LG TV (which didn't include the magic remote) later on. This remote did work with my Vizio sound and worked with my Insignia TV with ease, and when I bought my LG TV it took some time finding the right code to have it where I could pull up everything on the TV without needing to using the remote it came with. Now the cons for me is no backlight on the remote, and when it comes to Hulu no back button that works on this remote so I have to grab the LG remote. So this remote works 99% of the time for me.

I bought this remote after an employee told me it would work with a Samsung BluRay player. The original remote that came with the device went missing and I needed a temporary replacement while the new one was being shipped. It was a bit difficult to program, but I finally got it paired with my Samsung BluRay player and television. It didn't allow me to navigate in DVD menu. I was able to play, pause, stop, and turn the device on/off. That is it. It worked well-enough with the television and I had no issues there. At this point I would have given the product three stars. I am giving it two stars because after being gone for one week, I came back and discovered that the remote no longer worked with the BluRay player or the television. I had to program it a second time for both. I was successfully able to reprogram it for the television but not the BluRay player the second time around. I followed the exact same procedure, so I'm not sure why it failed to sync. I would not recommend this product. The only reason I am not giving this product a one star review is because when it was paired the first time, it functioned fine with the television and did enough with the BluRay player to get by.

When my fiancé moved in with me, we somehow lost the remotes for her Vizio TV and Apple TV, which we planned to put in our bedroom. After searching high and low for them without success, I drove over to my local Best Buy to pick up a universal remote. This Insignia Universal Remote stood out to me because of its simplicity, low cost, and compatibility with streaming devices. I picked it up on sale for $19.99, and it has worked flawlessly. Programming the remote to work with our Vizio TV and Apple TV took about 5 minutes. Build quality and ergonomics are great; it fits nicely in your hand and has a solid feel. Range and accuracy are great. I do wish the remote was backlit to aid with use in the dark, but it's not a deal breaker by any means. (Note to Insignia: add a backlight in your next version.) Overall, I would recommend this remote to anyone looking for a cost effective, simple yet functional universal remote.

I needed a universal remote because I was stuck using 4 separate remotes for the TV, Sound Bar, BluRay and Apple TV. The Apple TV remote was also dying and needed to be replaced one way or the other. The reviews for this product stated that it worked for Apple TV and that was good enough for me. The set up was easy enough, but when it came to programming it to work the Apple TV, I couldn't get it to work. Tried all of the different methods, and none of them worked. I don't know if it's only able to work with the newer versions of Apple TV, maybe that's the problem, but I was disappointed to find that the primary reason that I purchased the remote was basically a waste of time. I still like being able to control the other 3 devices with one remote, and I even used the last of the 4 slots to operate the Xbox One, which allowed me to watch Netflix/Hulu until I forked over another 20 bucks for a replacement Apple TV remote. Good purchase overall, but if you have the old version of Apple TV, just be aware that it may not work (it didn't for me...).

I bought this remote on sale, so it was an excellent value. I got it primarily to control an older Yamaha Sound Projector (soundbar) that I was afraid the volume buttons were beginning to wear out. Easy to program and works great. My only negative is that you are limited to the functions of the "generic" Yamaha audio controls. In other words, I can not select different sound modes (theater, club, etc.) or select different inputs to the soundbar. In addition to my TV, I have a music streaming box that I play through the soundbar. I can't change the input source for the soundbar with the remote. I have to use my Yamaha remote for that. That's OK, since I don't do that too often. But it would have been nice to have that ability. If it could do that, or was a learning remote where you could program any individual button, this would easily be a five star remote. As it is, it is almost one, but not quite. It definitely has a quality build and feel. All in all, I'm very happy with this remote.

I bought this to replace an older 8-device universal remote. I don't have 8 devices, and hoped this would fit the bill for a less complicated remote. It controls my Samsung TV well enough, as well as my Samsung Blu-Ray player. But I could not get it to work with my Apple TV. I tried multiple ways of getting it to work, with no success. This device suggests in the product description that it will work on Apple. But I have not found that to be the case. I'll be returning this very soon. Incidentally, reading through the reviews of this product, I find it a bit disconcerting that so many of Insignia's responses have been to "make sure you take advantage of Best Buy's 14-day return policy." It seems to me that a manufacturer would be encouraging their customers to try and keep the device and help them make it work. With so many recommendations to return a product, I feel like Insignia really has no desire to work with customers at all.

Much Better than RCA remotes BUT LACKING

I am on a quest to replace multiple remotes in three different rooms with a single "universal" remote for each. The equipment differs in the three rooms, so I need versatile remotes without going broke. I initially tried two RCA remotes and one of these. I immediately returned the RCA remotes because they were IMPOSSIBLE to program. I must say that this Insignia model is EASY to program, especially with well known brand devices. The sad thing is that I must return this Insignia remote because it is lacking a feature that is critical for me and MAYBE for YOU, too. There is NO button for Closed Captioning (cc - TV and Cable) and there is NO button for Subtitles (Blu-Ray and DVD devices). WHAT A SHAME. I will be spending more and buying the Logitech Harmony 350 that is fully programmable via a computer and/or able to LEARN from another remote! I will check the "I would recommend" box with the CAVEATE that I would NOT recommend this product to anyone who requires captioning or subtitles!!

I needed a new TV remote

One morning I checked on the Best Buy web site to see what I can find on about a new TV remote for my Insignia TV. The buttons on my old remote has been wearing out for some time. I was surprise to find this new in stock Insignia TV remote. It is mostly the exact remote as my old remote. So that evening I went to Best Buy and got the new TV remote. The next morning I had to program the new remote. There were 16 Insignia codes to select from. I tried all the codes and the code that I needed was the last one I had tried. I also program in the cable box code number. That is under the stream button. This new remote works just fine. The buttons on it are easy to push. I do not need to push hard on the buttons like on my old TV remote. You must supply you own two AA batteries.

This remote solved my entertainment dilemma perfectly. I had a remote for my Samsung TV, an Apple TV remote, a BluRay player remote, and a Samsung sound bar hooked up with no remote because my dog chewed it up. I was looking for one remote to control all 4 devices. After reading the product description and reviews, I found that this remote controls the Apple TV, so I decided to try it out. It couldn't have been a better fit. Setup was simple. My only complaint is that the instructions don't tell you how to control the Apple TV. To turn it on, press the OK button. The 4 directional buttons mimic the big circle on the Apple TV remote. The OK button is the select button. The Exit button takes you backwards in the menu. Other than that, I've been very happy. You can even set the volume buttons to lock on the device that controls volume so that you don't have to press the device button first.

Ordered this online during the black friday in July sale for $14.99 and just picked it up today. Fairly simple to program. I programmed mine to a Westinghouse TV (which almost nothing works with so I was pleasantly surprised that this paired with it), a standard definition DirecTv box, a Vizio soundbar, and a Sony 3D bluray player. All the functions from the original remotes work on this Insignia remote, which is a plus. I also really like that you can lock the volume controls to control only the soundbar volume. Thinking about getting another for my dad because he's got 2 remotes he has to use for the tv power/volume and DirecTv box and he gets things mixed up sometimes and gets frustrated so I think this would solve his problems lol (sadly it's not on sale anymore). I went from 4 remotes to 1. Would highly recommend!

I purchased this over the weekend to consolidate multiple remotes (blue ray, sound bar), and to have a numerical remote since I just got a 4K FireTV and still use antenna tv sometimes (smart TV remote didn’t have numbers or capability to change/input channel #s). I tried pairing it mult times with my Samsung BR AND my INSIGNIA sound bar—neither of which would pair. I tried mannually entering codes, preset brand codes, and auto-pair—nothing worked. I bought it on clearance for $17.99 three days ago. I see it’s now $10. If they all work like the one I got, they’re worthless. I returned mine for a refund.

Surprised no one has pointed this out but the instructions for this remote are incorrect. At least if you want to use the programmed features of this programmable remote. If you want to use Setup Method B (which most people probably do), the manual is written wrong and does not work. To address this, reverse the order of Step 2 and Step 3. Then it will program properly and works exactly as advertised. Pretty bad that the instructions are flat-out incorrect though. This remote is useless if you follow the instructions it comes with.

Somehow I lost (in the house no less) my original remote for my Insignia HDTV, after some hemming & hawing I decided to pull the trigger on a replacement remote & I couldn't be happier. Interesting enough even though the remote is Insignia-branded, it does not come with Insignia codes but it still pairs rather easily. It can also be set-up with a streaming device (Roku, Apple TV) & Blu Ray players & cable boxes. I purchased mainly for my TV (changing input to switch between cable box & Apple TV), after pairing with Optimum cable box, it made their supplied remote redundant. One issue so far is no capability to set the timer for my TV but I need to spend more time getting used to & seeing if the function is in a menu somewhere.

I thought I was going to have a hard time connecting all my devices to the remote. Once I opened up the instructions it was straight to the point and easy to set up. I now only use 3 remotes instead of 6. This Insignia universal remote, my amazon fire stick remote and my Sony PS3 remote control. Saves space and time! No more looking for all the remotes to lower volume, turn on DVD player, turn on sound bar, and the other one to turn off the t.v. I just wish it was identical to my old remote. Some buttons aren't compatible with this remote. Like for my old remote the colors do different things then this Insignia remote colors do. Everything can't be perfect, but this remote works well.

Looks like a nice remote with all the functionality that you would need. However, it would not function with our cable box (Cisco mini-box from Cox). To find codes, this remotes relies on turning off the device as confirmation that the correct code was entered. This isn't helpful with an always-on device like our cable box. I even tried every code manually, and still couldn't get it to work. Interestingly, my Harmony remote that we use on another TV synced perfectly with the cable box immediately. It has the potential to be a great remote, but definitely didn't work out in our situation. Disappointing.

The remote is very reasonably priced and worked well. It was not too hard to setup. In the instructions, there are codes that work with your brand of tv, disc player, etc. I liked the fact that is also works with Roku and Apple TV. The only downside is if you want to put on the sleep timer for TV, you have to hit TV button first and then menu, etc. But that is better than holding multiple remotes. Harmony has universal remotes that take a little longer to program but work well with multiple devices and you don't have to push different buttons for different devices. But for $20 it has worked great.

I mainly got this remote to replace my tv remote that broke. it is decent and you can program it to work on several different remotes. I found it doesn't okay with Roku and Directv. Not all the functions are available on the remote so I end up using mulitple remotes. You also have to hit a button to switch between devices. Even with my more expensive harmony all in one remote, I sometime use my directv remote but at least you can change channels and volume without hitting another button first. It is very inexpensive and does most of the normal functions.
