Customers enjoy the Roomba 690's excellent cleaning performance, ease of use, and pet hair removal capabilities. The app control and scheduling features are also frequently praised. However, some users find the navigation could be improved, and the noise level is a concern for a few. The small dustbin size and price point are additional drawbacks mentioned by some customers.

So this is the second robot vacuum that I have used, and in comparison to the other one this works much better. For reference, I use this in an area of about 1000 sq ft of wood floor on the main level of my home. First and foremost, you can feel that this is a well built product. The instructions and set up are clear and easy and the vacuum works almost independently as if it has a job to do. It seems to have pretty good suction and navigates the flooring that includes area rugs without much of an issue. I do have a Persian rug that has the fringe sides and it does tend to get caught up on that a little. Also, you need to make sure that there are no power cords that could be in the way. My iRobot got caught up on a power cord running behind a couch and got high centered until it timed out. The remedy for that is to use the included wall barrier so it knows were to stop and turn around. I have kids, so they leave things out constantly. That said, you need to make sure that things are picked up so you don't have an issue with the iRobot. There are some toys it would push out of the way, but at times it would suck things up and get caught up. This is expected from any self cleaning product, and is more of a reminder vice a complaint. Another consideration is that the iRobot is mainly a surface cleaning product. It does not clean deeply to get the deep down dirt that can get tracked into your home. That is why I use it on the wooded floors. There it gets awesome traction and in my home there are much less obstacles (again with my kids). But that is just my personal preference. It works just as well on the carpeted floors, but I needed it for the wood floors. The App is very cool. I have it set to work at a certain time I know nobody will be home and it won't bother anything or anyone. If I need it to run a second time I just go to the app and as long as it had enough time to charge it is good to go. All and all, this is much nicer than the Bissell product I used before. It definitely works better and is more intuitive when it encounters problems or obstacles in it's path. I would definitely add this to a smart home, it is a simple and effective product and works well for the everyday touch ups you don't have time to do.

    Too much Hype

My wife and I tried the vacuum for two days and we set up different items for the Roomba to pick up. We had hair, dirt and crumbs. After 30 minutes of running the machine, the hair was partially picked up and some blown away. The crumbs were partially picked up and yet dispersed by the rotating arm it has on the side. The dirt same as the crumbs. This was all a pain to watch since the Roomba took its sweet time and constantly missed the mess laid out. It did half work in some rooms and battery life was that of 40 mins. It didn’t even work well with the app on the phone. I recommend it for a small apartment not a home. The only thing we liked of the Roomba is that it went under the couch yet we can’t say how well it cleaned under there. We are returning it and just buying a Dyson.

Might work better in a smaller space so it could hit each area more. My main floor is 2,000 SQ ft of open living space and with 3 dogs and 2 cats there is a lot of hair to pick up. With the "random pattern" it ends up all over the place and doesn't have enough battery to hit everything.

One Of The Best Maids You Can Buy

I would like to start off by saying that I own a top-of the line Roomba, so I was excited to test the Roomba 690 to see how it compared. Here is a little background information on the Roomba 690. It has a edge sweeping brushes that loosen, lift, and suction debris from all floor types. Roomba has sensors to automatically detect high dirt concentrations on your floors and then performs a detailed cleaning of that high grime area. It is amazing how this device can sense these "extra-dirty" areas and clean and re-clean that particular area. Amazing, but it really works. I personally can attest to the fact that the Roomba very efficiently cleans your floors and carpets. It always does a magnificent cleaning job in our home. Look at your floors for example, and what do you see? Clean, right? Unleash the Roomba and see what happens. Roomba makes it way into your bedrooms and starts cleaning underneath your beds, underneath your sofas, and everywhere it can reach. When was the last time you actually moved your beds or sofas and cleaned under there? Wait until Roomba finishes cleaning your home and you empty its debris container. I guarantee that it will be filled with lots of dirt, fuzz, food particles and whatever else was resting on your floors. That's when it will hit you, as to how dirty your floors really were. You won't see most of the dirt but Roomba will find the dirt! Roomba is not designed for wet floor use and is not going to clean mud or sticky messes on your floor. You will still have to mop your floors for that ultimate clean in your home. Roomba has sensors that allow the unit to wend its way through the obstacles in your home. We have lots of chairs in our kitchen, a bird cage, and a baby high chair. Roomba has never gotten stuck between the table or chair legs but has gotten stuck in other areas of our home. The Roomba did become lodged in my testing under some of the baseboards in our kitchen and also under our TV stand as these areas have irregular heights and our TV stand is warped. What actually happens is the Roomba initially has enough clearance to get under these particular areas, but becomes lodged when "topside" clearance narrows down and prevents it from properly maneuvering. I really don't feel that this is the fault of the unit, but is due to the unevenness of our TV stand and baseboards. There is a solution to this and it's called Virtual Wall Barrier which is included with the Roomba 690. A bit more about the Virtual Wall Barrier a little later on in the review. Roomba does really well as we have a sunken living room and has never fallen down over the step. It simply reverses course and continues its cleaning routine. It should work equally as well if you have a townhouse with stairs. What I did not test the Roomba on was shag carpet, or very thick carpets. My home is tiled, and has throw rugs or mats placed through our home. Roomba did not even blink an eye when switching from tiled floors to carpeting. The verdict on shag carpets is unknown. This unit comes with one Virtual Wall Barrier device, which electronically blocks your Roomba from entering a room, or passing a certain point of a room. All you do is activate and set the Virtual Wall barrier and the Roomba will not proceed past that "set-point". Virtual wall barriers can also be placed in strategic areas of a cleaned area, which will prevent the Roomba from entering those particular areas. Virtual wall barriers are ideal for areas in which it tends to become stuck (as mentioned in my earlier part of the review) such as kitchen base boards or under certain TV stands. A word on run times. Roomba 690 has an advertised run time of 60 minutes. I have a 1750 square foot home, so if I let the unit roam entirely by itself, it will clean my entire home. If you have very large homes or apartments, your Roomba will probably return to the base station for recharging before it finishes cleaning your entire home or apartment. When Roomba wears down its battery charge, it will "auto-doc" to the home station when it needs to be charged. No need to pick it up and hand-carry it. In my testing, Roomba always returned to the base station by itself when it needed to be charged. Roomba has Wi-Fi connectivity and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and the Google Assistant. It can be controlled through the iRobot Home application which means you are able to customize its cleaning schedule and check its cleaning status. You are also able to access customer support from any Android or IOS device. In closing, I have to admit the Roomba 690 performs as well as my top of the line Roomba unit. Roomba 690 does a magnificent job of capturing dirt, dust, fuzz, and anything else in its way. Run time was sufficient enough to clean my home without it having to auto-return to base for recharging. My top of the line Roomba unit has a run time of 120 minutes as compared to 60 minutes for the Roomba 690. It also managed to clean my area rugs from any loose debris. My only wish, is that the Roomba 690 be marketed with two Virtual Wall Barriers (instead of one) which are really handy items. Having a mechanical maid in your home is awesome. Roomba 690 is a winner and will pay for itself by not having to hire a maid.

    Great entry-level robot vacuum

Robots are cool. But vacuum robots - maybe not so much. But after I started using the Roomba 690, my view is changing bit by bit, because now I have a robot that actually can do at least one household chore. The Roomba is quite small, and the charging station does not take a lot of space by itself. However, if you want to use the "Go Home" function, you have to have some clearance around the station. Now, regarding actual use: I used it to clean my carpeted bed room and living space and it works quite well, albeit a tad slowly. If you have small (low-profile) things lying around like plastic bags etc. it can get tangled into the wheels and you'll find your vacuum screaming with an error alert. Cables are also problematic in cramped spaces. Other than that it worked as expected in my "not-so-clean" bachelor pad. I did not try to clean my vinyl-covered kitchen space beside my living room carpet, and used the included "barrier" to keep it in check. If you have a lots of space you want to restrict, you may need to buy a couple of more barriers, but for my the included one was enough. Overall, it’s a very convenient solution for a tiring chore and I'm using it quite regularly. The smartphone app is very convenient for scheduling clean cycles. I have not used any other type of robot vacuum before, so I can't do a comparison with any other solutions out there. But all I can say is that the experience I'm having with the Roomba 690 is very good.

    Roomba - Great Technology

I was pretty skeptical of what this little vacuum could do. I don't know what I expected but overall I'd say I'm pretty satisfied with this little piece of technology. I have cats that lose hair like it's their job and am constantly seeing little dust bunnies roll across my hardwood floors. I was really hoping the Roomba would help out with this problem and just the overall upkeep of vacuuming the floors. And it really does help! I haven't gotten a chance to thoroughly use this little guy, but from the few rooms I've seen him work in, he's great. I love the fact that it's wifi enabled and I can control everything from my phone. It was a little hard to set up compared to how the directions made it seem but after about 30 minutes, I finally figured it out somehow. It's also Alexa enabled which I was impressed and pleased on. When the Roomba runs, it does get a little noisy. It's not super quiet but it's also not loud enough to annoy you. It runs for about an hour with battery life and fills up fairly fast if you have a lot of hair and debris that needs picked up between rooms. I've only had to empty mine twice a run (about 3 rooms). You'll have to watch for cords and any blankets with strings that it might run into. Mine sucked up my iPhone cord and it took me a minute to get it unstuck. It also tried to suck up a blanket I had partially on the floor. The transition between hardwood floors and rugs is easy. After you're done using it, you can call it home and it'll dock itself back onto it's charging station. Overall, I'm very satisfied and would recommend this Roomba to anyone!

Interesting Auto Vacuum with voice/remote control

One thing to know if you haven't had one of these robot vacuum's before. They are not very compatible with young kids or pets. Many a robot vacuum's day has been ruined by various toys/dolls/etc. being swept or sucked up and jamming the mini vacuum. If you have young kids or pets, think of this as the dust bunny/small debris maintenance between regular full sized vacuuming sessions. We generally only use on the schedule when we are mostly away for periods of time, and have to have a reminder to pickup/move/secure all the aforementioned kid/pets items beforehand. Setup with smartphone app, was able to get Amazon Alexa voice control setup and working. Was not able to get Google Home speaker voice control setup at all, kept failing trying to get it to be recognized and activate in Google Home app. Voice control is basic, useful if you can't find your phone or left it at the office I guess. Remote (smartphone app) and scheduling works well. Cleans in a seemingly random pattern, you cannot directly control it with the app. Vacuum avoids drop offs on its own very well. I don't have much use for the Invisible avoidance wall / pet food and water avoider device, but I tested it at a doorway and the robot vacuum turned back dutifully. It is useful to schedule via the app and have it visually there, much better than older more manual robotic vacuums. It is also nice to be able to turn it on remotely when gone from the house, when you forgot to do it for that "one special time". Easy to remove and dump, and good instructions for cleaning provided.
