Simply the best non-Mac Laptop

Question: How to get the battery life of a Macbook Air (33wh battery) and still run Windows?
Answer: Double the battery (73wh in the Yoga Aura), tune the clocks, use one of the most efficient GPUs out there.
In many, many laptop reviews the headline is about the battery life, and it's worth mentioning to be sure: This lunar lake processor (256v) is a big step for intel but this laptop is a giant leap in terms of battery life for non macs.
There are several competing highly efficient platforms out right now: Snapdragon, Apple, Ryzen AI, and intel Lunar Lake (like this). Apple wins everything right now but I'm not dealing with Mac OS again, and the Macbook Air puts a tiny 33wh battery.
After doing a ton of research I settled on Lunar lake. The short version is I don't need a ton of CPU performance but I NEED that battery life and I don't want compatibility hassles. Hilariously though, this has pretty formidable GPU performance. I suspect given the price point this is going to kick snapdragon off the market (this is cheaper, similar performance/battery, and zero compatibility concerns).
So I guess the only thing to review then is the day-to-day:
Keyboard:
Best I have used since the old thinkpad days. Way better than Mac, for instance.
Trackpad:
Long story short: Mac wins as always... But not by enough to make me think about it. This IS mechanical not haptic (the updated AURA for 2025 will apparently have haptic). I actually own a Bluetooth Apple Magic trackpad and played about 8 hours of Civilization with both. I had to TURN OFF tap to click on the Aura because of pretty distracting palm rejection issues, HOWEVER really I didn't notice a big difference to me anyway after a while of using it -- again I was clicking for many hours.
Touch screen:
If you've never had one before be careful: once you try it, you wont go back. It's nearly a killer app to get off Mac.
Weird Features:
Intel unison seems a bit clunky on iphone but it still works to transfer a simple photo across without wifi.
Screen:
Not OLED. Competes with Apple (IPS) favorably. At first I didn't want to go from my standard 13" or 14" screen I've been using for 10 years to 15.... now I can't go back. GREAT brightness. Amazing for productivity. I was on my porch playing Civilization in full sun with this glossy thing and it was great.
Build quality:
Not a mac but close enough. Super solid. Very professional.
Web cam:
Definitely not bad but nothing special.
GPU:
Probably the least emphasized in most reviews : THIS GPU IS AMAZING for a non AMD/geforce but certainly for the efficiency. If you do light gaming this is a sleeper PC if there ever was one.
Quirks/extras:
- You probably want to spring for 32GB RAM, you can't upgrade.
- Hard drive is upgradable but IMO one big killer feature: It's REMOVABLE. That means recovering your data in case the thing gets physically wrecked will likely only involve a screwdriver and a $30 adapter, NOT a $1,000 trip to the Apple store and a lot of prayer.
- TB5 ports are one per side unlike last years model, has one USB A on the Right, HDMI on left

It is a nice, lightweight laptop that is perfect for both my personal and professional needs. I have not used it yet for Zoom-type calls. I purchased it to replace a poorly performing competitor's brand. So far, it has met all of my expectations. I paired it with a large curved monitor for streaming calls when I will be teaching from home. I also added a full-size wave-style keyboard for large input jobs. Laptop keyboards are not comfortable for extended typing. The camera is very good, so I have not needed to add any external webcam.

I have enjoyed using my Lenovo Yoga 7i laptop and it has done exactly what I've needed it to! For the price it is a great buy. I just switched over from a MacBook because some of my engineering classes required Windows software. I honestly prefer the Mac user interface but this is still great. I have had it for about a month and haven't had any major issues. The Face ID is really helpful and overall smooth; there were a few days where the Face ID did not work properly, but now it is functioning again. Overall, this is a good laptop with definitely enough storage and power (1TB SSD, 16GB RAM) for everyday use and demanding applications. It works great for engineering studies.

This laptop has exceeded my expectations. I picked up the 32GB model when it was on sale after doing several hours of research and have had it for a couple weeks so far. I was deciding between this and the 32GB Yoga 9i Aura w/ 14" 2.8K OLED + 258V CPU but couldn't justify the additional $400 for what was being offered in the Yoga 9i.
ABOUT MY USAGE:
I needed a laptop because I had a 2022 Lenovo Slim 9i (14" 4K OLED, 32GB RAM, Intel i7-1280P), that was stolen and my 8-year old backup laptop was nearly unusable for my needs. I am a software engineer and I usually run several instances of IntelliJ/VSCode at the same time with multiple Chrome browsers, so my RAM usage is high, and CPU usage can vary, but more on the power-user side of things. I do not particularly need a powerful GPU unless I decide to do some gaming in Windows, but I use Immersed VR for a virtual workspace with a Meta Quest 3, and that can be harder on the graphics. Similarly, I installed a dual-boot of Ubuntu (24.04 LTS at first, now 25.04) + Windows 11.
This laptop has been a perfect replacement for my Slim 9i which was a very perfomant and well-built laptop. I also use an M1 Max MacBook Pro 16" (32GB RAM) for software development at my job, and it has always been a reliable, powerful, and efficient device, so that and the Slim 9i are my baselines for this review.
REVIEW:
1. Size: The screen size was actually HUGE plus for me. The 14" screen on my Slim 9i felt small at times when trying to multi-task with side-by-side windows, as it was hard to fit enough on the screen. Conversely, the 16" MBP feels too large at times to travel with, but that's mostly because the weight of the MBP is 50% more than this Slim 7i and it's extremely thick!! The 15.3" screen falls perfectly in between those and the balance of screen size + weight + thickness on this device makes it my favorite laptop I have owned so far for portability.
2. Keyboard: Keyboard is perfect! Always have been a big fan of Lenovo keyboards, and this one is better than my Slim 9i, because they had made the keys shallow that year, so they didn't feel as good. I like the keyboard on this slightly more than the MBP, but might be a personal preference (love having the delete key for typing too). They do leak some light when the backlight is on, but not a big deal.
3. Trackpad: Feels good for a mechanical one. Large area, and quieter than my Slim 9i which is nice, but also not as great as the MBP haptic one.
4. Design: HUGE deal breaker for me was Thunderbolt/USB-C charging ports on both sides on the computer, so I am not limited when travelling. It was harder than I thought it would be to find a perfect laptop that had that, like the Yoga Pro 9i has both USB-C on one side, along with the charging port. I don't have much of a need for the HDMI/USB-A, but they're nice to have
I also like that there is no numpad (similar to both my other laptops) since I never use it and it turns me off from most larger windows laptops because it just takes up space that I would never use and often results in a sacrifice of speakers/laptop dimensions.
Aesthetic is OK, nothing too special, but I do like overall color, shape, and appearance of the laptop when using it, and the subtle YOGA branding, but the Lenovo logo on the back is meh.
Build quality feels nice/sturdy with the metal. I like how stiff the hinge is, makes the laptop feel extremely durable. My Slim 9i had a very loose hinge which I did not like. The 3.2lb weight feels very light for the size, and I love it for travel, especially compared to the slightly larger MBP being 4.8lb (way too thick)!
Speakers are loud, they seem good enough for watching videos and playing some music, but I'm not an audiophile.
Webcam is BAD, but that's clearly something that was sacrificed to keep this at a good price point, so I'm ok with that.
5. Screen: This was one of my concerns when buying, because I loved the 4K OLED screen on my Slim 9i and the screen on this is does not seem on par of with that in terms of the contrast/color, but I didn't expect it to be since this is on a more value-driven product line. Same comparison with the miniLED on the MBP because of the deep blacks that it can get. But, this still uses a very nice display, and colors appear to be as accurate as the MBP and the brightness was a big benefit on this, since the 500 nits peak brightness helps A LOT when working in bright environments, allowing me to work on-the-go very conveniently. There were a lot of people complaining about the screen gloss, and I will say, it is pretty glossy, and in a dark room with the keyboard backlight, you see the reflection. But this was an easy fix after installing a Matte Screen Protector on Amazon for <$15 (https://amzn.to/3SFNjem). The touchscreen is always a nice-to-have IMO and I like that it's included where my MBP does not have one. All in all, a great screen for the price point, but would love to have an OLED in the future
6. CPU:
Seems to be very power efficient. The fans never seem to be running loudly and I would compare it to my MBP in terms of quietness, which is impressive. I will say, I don't think that the peak performance matches either of my other computers, which is somewhat disappointing since this is 3+ years newer. To be honest, that's okay since it is comparable to what I'm upgrading from. It can get somewhat hot, but haven't experienced anything insanely hot so far, and I think the heat dissipation benefits from the larger body than the 14" alternative would've had.
7. GPU:
I haven't really tried to game on this at all, since I have mostly been using Ubuntu Linux to code, but I have used Immersed VR a couple times. The Immersed app on Ubuntu seems to be a lot smoother on this than my Slim 9i, but it's not as good as my MBP which is seamless. I think the performance is limited more by the Ubuntu OS support than anything though, as it works smoothly with Windows.
8. RAM:
I need 32GB, so I cannot speak on the 16GB model, but if you are a heavy user, or might be in the future, I think the 32GB will be more future-proof, if you can afford it.
9. Battery:
This is a big deal as well, and my review is going to be based on Ubuntu battery life, but I'm seeing 5-7 hours when using several software IDEs and 10+ chrome browsers/tabs at any given movement. Definitely seems to benefit from the new Intel Chips that are using way less wattage (almost half of my Slim 9i's). I would consider this good for the usage, and I think it compares to my MBP. I will say, I'm disappointed there is only a 70Wh battery, since my 14" Slim 9i was able to fit a 75Wh battery in a smaller body. They could probably fit a 75-80Wh battery and made this a near-perfect laptop.
Linux (Ubuntu):
This was a major deal breaker for me as well, since I need Linux for software development. I installed Ubuntu 24.04 LTS initially and the speakers did not work at all, but I can manage without that). I ended up upgrading to the latest 25.04 which fixed that though. There is another weird issue that still exist which is annoying but also manageable:
When the laptop goes into suspend/sleep and wakes, some things stop working:
a. The keyboard shortcuts for brightness adjustment don't work (no feedback on brightness), but adjusting in the settings does still work
b. They keyboard shortcuts for keyboard backlight do show that they are working, but they don't do anything
Overall this laptop is fantastic and really excels in every area that matters to me and I would highly recommend it to anyone, especially as a developer as a MBP alternative, or potentially for a student. The value you get out of this laptop is hard to beat (especially when on sale) and will probably be all the laptop you need.
I would recommend this to a friend

I’ve been using the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition (15.3”, Intel Core Ultra 7, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD) for a few weeks now, and I’m seriously impressed. This laptop nails the balance between sleek design, strong performance, and long battery life.
Design & Display:
It’s thin, light, and feels premium with its sturdy aluminum build. The 3K 120Hz touchscreen is bright, colorful, and super smooth — perfect for both work and Netflix.
Performance:
With Intel's new Ultra 7 chip and 32GB of RAM, everything runs fast and smooth. Great for multitasking, light content creation, and everyday productivity. Not made for gaming or heavy editing, but handles most tasks with ease.
Battery:
Battery life is outstanding . I’ve easily gotten 12+ hours on a single charge with mixed use, which is a huge plus.
Keyboard & Audio:
Typing feels great, and the speakers are surprisingly loud and clear. You’ll enjoy Zoom calls and media without needing external audio.
Some minor downsides:
- Not a 2-in-1, despite being called “Yoga”
- Touchpad is fine, but not best in class
- Reflective screen in bright environments
Bottom line:
This is a fantastic premium Windows laptop for students, professionals, or anyone who wants power without sacrificing portability or battery life.

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition is a mixed bad of a computer. It is very pleasant to use, with a (very) bright, color accurate LCD panel, a firm chassis with great build quality, a delightful keyboard, a nice mechanical trackpad, and very good battery life. It runs cool and quiet even under load, and is very well suited for office tasks. It has plenty of ports and is easy to fit into a bag.
Downsides include a tendency to go to sleep and refuse to wake, LCD screen still isn't as nice to look at as OLED, its speakers have way more bass than they do vocal support, an inability to open one-handed (even though this isn't a 2-in-1) and touch screen but no pen support. The webcam privacy shutter is electronic (which isn't as reliablle as physical) and a power button on the side which is easy to accidentally press.

This laptop was the easiest to set up and start working on that I have ever had. It takes literally zero "techie" knowledge to operate, looks great, has a really nice balance feel, and because it handles bluetooth accessories, such as mice and keyboards, the fact that it may have less USB cnnections didn't matter. The computer also practically set itself up with my fifteen year old Canon printer.
Lastly, I want to recognize all of the folks at Best Buy who were very patient with my 70-year-old style of buying, which included asking a ton of questions, most of which I probably not need to ask if I was a 15-year old, and going through several models of laptops (over two seperate visits) before deciding on purchasing this one. Bottom line: I got a computer that had everything I need for my work and home projects, confident that I won't need to replace it two or three years from now.

Like the great display even though LCD as opposed to the better contrast OLEDs on other laptops. This LCD is crisp and does not have the screen door effect like most OLEDs have so it's a big deal. On most OLEDs, text looks fuzzy and not crisp, really terrible. This laptop ran pretty snappy and had 8 to 9 hours of battery life for my use. The negatives are that there is no fingerprint reader which is important when face recognition does not work reliably and that the laptop is very slippery to hold and will certainly fall from your clutches one day. The under side with the large grille for air flow is flimsy while holding the laptop. The webcam is also not great. Lenovo wants you to spend 2k before they will give you all of this which is being greedy. I returned it for these reasons and also because thr IR camera for face recognition was faulty and couldn't get Lenovo support to fix.
