Simply put, an EXCELLENT wireless keyboard

Recently, I reviewed the new Logitech G903 LIGHTSPEED mouse. Now, Logitech is releasing their latest keyboards…the G815 (wired) & G915 (wireless)…which pair up quite nicely with Logitech’s G903 & G502 LIGHTSPEED mice. Both keyboards are available with your choice of three different mechanical switches – Romer-G Tactile, Romer-G Linear, & Romer-GL Clicky. I’m quite certain that, for the greatest part, almost everything that applies to the GL Clicky version applies to the other two, with the ONLY differences being how the keys feel, and sound. While I have continuously used Logitech mice for a great many years, I switched to Corsair keyboards a few years ago…and, as such, there will be several comparisons between the new G915, and the Corsair K95 RGB I’ve been using. Will the Logitech G915 be “good enough” to replace my current favorite? We shall see. UNBOXING AND INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: Logitech is getting extremely good at designing “quality” packaging for their high-end products. Other than size, there is very little difference between the G903’s packaging, and the packaging of the new G915 keyboard…and, honestly, this isn’t just a “good” thing, but a “great” thing. The box is made of thick, sturdy cardboard, the internal packaging is very environmentally-friendly, and there is a very pleasing minimalistic-tech appearance to everything. As for the keyboard, itself, to be completely honest, just by looking, while the bottom & sides of the keyboard are (obviously) plastic, I am unable to tell if the top if brushed aluminum, or plastic made to look like brushed aluminum…and, quite honestly, I don’t care – it looks absolutely fantastic, and is the exact opposite of a “fingerprint magnet”. The keyboard is both light, and heavy, at the same time. Compared to the Corsair K95 RGB I’ve been using, it feels slightly heavier. My only ‘complaint’ (albeit, a minor one, at least for now…although it’s possible that could change) is that, just by looking at the keyboard, I can tell that only the primary keyboard characters are backlit by RGB LEDs…the secondary characters are merely printed on the4 keys, and will eventually wear off. Before setting up the keyboard, with my computer shut down, I “played around” withy the keys of both keyboards, and, I have to admit, I was already beginning to like the feel of the G915’s keys over those of the K95. While they don’t press as deep, they do feel more “natural”. I really do like the K95, but one “complaint” I’ve always had is how the key movement resembles the old IBM Selectric keyboards. Yes, some people do prefer that type of key movement. I remember typing on an IBM Selectric back when I was in junior high, and high school, and, compared to the computer keyboards I started typing on around the same time, I never got the “feel” for those typewriter keyboards…I always preferred the shorter movement of computer keyboards. However, I did miss the sound & “clicky-ness” of those Selectric keyboards. Once mechanical keyboards started showing up, I finally got to enjoy that feeling again…except that, in addition to the feeling, the higher actuation also returned, which I didn’t care for. Move forward many years, and Logitech finally started releasing mechanical keyboards using these wonderful “short-throw” (ie. lower actuation) switches in keyboards, and we now have the “best of both worlds”. SETUP: Remember when you had to charge the wireless mouse, then plug in the ‘dongle’, then put the mouse in “search mode”, then the computer detected the mouse, and finally you had to sync the mouse & dongle together? Well, that way of connecting is gone. With Logitech’s LIGHTSPEED technology, it is better, easier, faster, less complicated…and worse. Yes, I said “worse”…but, allow me to explain. When Logitech first started making wireless keyboards, they used dongles that utilized Bluetooth, which could connect up to six devices to the computer. In addition to Logitech device4s, these dongles could connect any Bluetooth device. Moving forward, Logitech came up with the “Unifying’ dongle. While still (technically) Bluetooth, it utilized a proprietary signal/coding, which eliminated the possibility of connecting non-Logitech devices, but also made the Logitech device signals stronger. LIGHTSPEED is another advance in this (although I am uncertain whether it’s still a derivative of Bluetooth, or whether this is truly a proprietary Logitech technology. On the ’plus’ side, the technology provides a much stronger, as well as incredibly fast, dedicated connection…and, therein lies the “worse” part. As far as I am able to tell, the dongle can ONLY be used to connect the device printed on the dongle. As I mentioned, in addition to the new G915 LIGHTSPEED keyboard, I also have a G502 LIGHTSPEED mouse. As such, I have two dongles plugged into my computer…one that states “G915”, and another that states “G502”. Previously, whether using a Logitech Bluetooth or Unifying dongle, you only needed a dingle dongle for up to six different Logitech devices. Now, each device requires its own dongle, and, thus, its own USB port (whether on the computer, or via a USB hub). If I wanted to add a Logitech LIGHTSPEED wireless headset, I’d have to find another available USB port. Now, if anyone has any information on how to connect multiple LIGHTSPEED devices to a single dongle, my ears are open. Anyway, back to the4 ‘setup’ information. Setup is as simple as going to Logitech’s G-Hub software download page, downloading & installing the software, plugging the dongle in, turning the keyboard on, starting the software, and then pressing the “LIGHTSPEED” button on the keyboard…and the keyboard is connected. Once connected, you can start playing around with the LED color settings, as well as the keyboard’s other settings. COMFORT: As I mentioned, I’ve been using Corsair keyboards for the past several years…first the Strafe RGB, and, more recently, the newest K95 RGB v2. Prior to these two, I had been using Logitech membrane keyboards for more years than I can remember. Upon connecting the new G915, I instantly started liking it…and, not just “slightly more” than the Corsair K95, but considerably more. Instead of just my opinion, I decided to get my wife’s opinion…but, in a very unique way – a blind/deaf test. I blindfolded my wife, and then placed some noise-canceling headphones over her ears. This way, she wouldn’t be able to visually see what keyboard was in front of her, and she wouldn’t be able to hear any differences. What I was interested in was her opinion of the feel, and nothing else. The four keyboards I placed before her, in order, were as follows: the Dell keyboard that came with her computer, the Corsair K95, the G915, and, finally, the Logitech K800 she’s been using for the past year. the order she liked the keyboards best is as follows: G915, K95, Dell, & K800. Interesting that the keyboard she thought was the best for typing was the G915, and the keyboard she thought was the worst as the very K800 she’s been using. This, from someone who’s been typing for well over 40 years. Of course, I told her she can’t have the G915…it’s mine, mine, mine, all mine. CLOSING THOUGHTS: To be completely honest, even though I don’t care a whole lot for the actuation height of the Corsair K95, I was really hoping I’d still like it better than the G915. The truth is, the G915 is a better keyboard – I prefer the shorter actuation height, I prefer the feel, I prefer the “clicky” sound, I prefer the wider volume roller-bar, I prefer it being wireless…I could easily keep going on, but I’m guessing anyone reading this has gotten the picture. THE GOOD: • To keep my “THE GOOD” section short, I’ll just say “almost everything” THE BAD: • Price - $250 is a lot…and, I mean a LOT…to spend on a keyboard, including a mechanical keyboard THE UGLY: • The LIGHTSPEED dongle being only able to connect to a single LIGHTSPEED device. FINAL VERDICT: Starting with the LIGHTSPEED dongle, while I wasn’t expecting it to connect to as many devices as Logitech’s previous Bluetooth & Unifying dongles, they could have set things up for it to, at least, be able to connect to three devices (say, keyboard, mouse, and headset). Having to use a separate dongle for each individual LIGHTSPEED device is not only a PitA, but it also wastes USB ports, which has always been one of the benefits of using wireless devices. Then, there’s the “problem” of the outrageous price…$250 for the wireless version, and even $200 for the wired version is a LOTY of money, and an amount that few will be able, or be willing, to spend. That having been said, overall, the new Logitech G915 LIGHTSPEED keyboard (and the G815 wired version) is excellent, and I would HIGHLY recommend it. Better yet, pair it with either a G903, or G502, LIGHTSPED mouse, and you’ll have a wireless gaming setup ready to conquer whatever game you’re playing. Disclaimer: This product was provided free, or at reduced cost, for the purpose of reviewing the product. Nevertheless, the above review, be it positive, negative, or anywhere in-between, is a 100% honest review, and the price paid played absolutely no part in my review.

Best Gaming Keyboard on the Market.

The Logitech G915 LIGHTSPEED Wireless RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - GL Clicky is hands down the best gaming keyboard out on the market right now. This thing is a beast in terms of quality and functionality. The top of the keyboard is made of a brushed black aircraft grade aluminum giving the G915 a sleek premium look and feel. The mechanical keys are low profile and sleek. The feel of the keys when typing is the highlight of this keyboard for me. The smooth strokes and tactile feedback (clicks) you get are very satisfying when typing or gaming. Pair the G915 with the G Hub software and this is where you take this keyboard to another level. You can control RGB lighting effects with some pretty cool effects that I haven’t seen before and even edit your own. You can save different up to 3 different game profiles and there are 5 G keys that you can program custom game macros. The G915 also provides 30 hours of battery on a 3 hour battery charge. Another highlight are the media controls, you have your rubberized media buttons below this awesome wide volume wheel that is a pleasure to use because it is so intuitive and smooth when scrolling to adjust the volume. I’ve been playing Apex, Fornite, and Overwatch for the most part testing out the G915 and it handles games like a champ. I think Logitech really out did themselves with this one and if you’re a gamer whether casual or hardcore I’d recommend this bad boy all day. From gaming to typing I just love everything about this keyboard.

I opted to purchase the wireless model, and it does not disappoint. There is not a noticeable different in lag or response between this keyboard and a wired model. Wireless options are a low profile wireless adapter or Bluetooth, however you lose some logging option in Logitech software when using Bluetooth. The RGB has numerous settings and profiles, pick what you like. The low profile keys were what attracted me to this keyboard and their low travel time is amazing, they are clicky and quite tactile while also being a bit quieter compared to other clicky keyboards, a definite plus in my mind. My only complaints are that the alternate functions on the number keys ( @ # % ) and a few other useful keys such as ? are not backlit by the RGB, making it hard to see them if you need them in a dim room. Come on Logitech why cut corners there. My minor complaint is that there isn’t a low profile palm rest, which took a little adjustment but I’ll be fine with out, it would just be nice to have the option. I hope Logitech makes replacement keys with backlit cut outs Which would push this keyboard up from 4 stars to 5 in my eyes.

This is the best tactical keyboard I’ve owned. It’s designed to be durable. The response time is excellent and the battery life is great. Zero complaints; great investment. Don’t take my word for it- go to the store and feel it out and compare it to other brands. The G915 stands out from the rest in all aspects.

    Whoa! Just, whoa!

Coming from a Logitech K840 (for the subdued, clean look I thought I wanted for what is primarily a home office), this keyboard is an incredible upgrade! The RGB lighting is fully programmable and subtle when you want it to be but can go full rainbow flash of RGB glory if you'd like! The G Hub software is mostly intuitive and easy to use. After you have your preferred lighting settings ready to go, you can use the three on-board memory profiles to switch on the fly between your preferred lighting method for the work that you're doing AND be able to control the bright between five different levels (0-100%) from the brightness button on the keyboard itself! I have the GL Clicky keys and they are most definitely clicky, giving you both a subtle audible "click" (compared to other mechanical keyboards, the click is loud enough for the user but quiet enough where you won't drive your office neighbor nuts) and the physical click of the switch actuating. The typing experience is excellent and a perfect mix of key height and spacing. Speaking of spacing, the low-profile and minimalist form of this keyboard make it an absolute dream on any desk! This will look at home in a professional office just as well as it will in a hardcore gaming set up. The gaming experience is incredible, the key response is lightning fast (or at "Lightspeed," if you will) and you will find yourself questioning if this is truly a wireless keyboard! I have yet to find a situation where there is any lag while using the Lightspeed USB dongle versus the wired connection. Bluetooth is a very quick and stable connection but, like most Bluetooth keyboards, if it is sitting idle for some time you may experience some lag. The speed of switching between Bluetooth and Lightspeed is fast enough where I may be getting rid of my second keyboard in favor of using just this one (my desk is set up for two workstations, usually requiring two sets of keyboard/mouse). A major feature this keyboard has that you rarely find in slim form keyboards, especially wireless slim form keyboards, is the two step riser system that allows more options for bringing the keyboard to your preferred typing angle.Exceptional build quality and incredible battery life, this keyboard will impress in use and style! I would highly recommend this for both gamers and professionals as it is one of the best looking, best performing, and most versatile keyboards around that is definitely worth the price!

I’ve had this for about a month and I love it. I will say, it’s not worth the asking price but it is a good keyboard. Hardly any key wobble, and the clicking isn’t overwhelming. The backplate is aluminum but the bottom is not. It’s essentially a plastic body half wrapped in aluminum.

Best keyboard for gaming we've ever used

    |
    Posted .

Logitech is one of those brands that our family is consistently satisfied with. They just don't disappoint and that is the case with this G915 Wireless RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard. This keyboard is a great compliment to our other G series Logitech products such as our G series mouse. This keyboard has a terrific design and looks that don't disappoint. The exterior is crafted from a strong and durable aluminum-magnesium alloy. Not only does this add to the eye appeal of the keyboard, but it allows for a thin, quality design. Long gone are the days of wireless peripherals being poor performers. The charge and connectivity of the G915 has been fantastic. Logitech promises up to 30 hours of gaming on one charge and features a low battery warning light when at 15%; and recharges in three hours. Connectivity has been flawless and simple with Lightspeed wireless via USB receiver or Bluetooth. High on the list of positives is the low profile design of the G915. The GL Clicky switch has a feel and sound that we really like. Also available are GL Linear and GL Tactile, but thus far favor GL Clicky. The keyboard layout features five G keys on the left that are customizable through the Logitech G Hub software. Logitech's G Hub offers lots of animations to customize the keyboard look, along with the ability to create your own. The Lightsync RGB lighting definitely adds to the visual appeal. We've also found the layout of the media keys above the number pad to be very convenient and like the design of having a wide volume dial. In summary, this is the best gaming keyboard we have ever used. If we had to think of a negative it would likely be the price, but given the investment we've made in our gaming computer and other peripherals; why skimp on the keyboard? Logitech has a winner with this one.

    Another success story from Logitech!

    |
    Posted .

I was always hesitant to invest in a wireless gaming keyboard, because of interference, lag time, battery life, etc. Logitech solved this in this amazing piece of artwork called the G915 Lightspeed wireless gaming keyboard. From the moment you open the box, the presentation is amazing. High end packaging, everything has its place, and is well protected from damage. Once you find the power switch on the top left edge of the keyboard and slide it on, the keyboard lightshow begins. And it is simply awesome. Bright lights but you can still see the key print. Now, I don't need to know the basic keys, but there are times when seeing a certain key is important, and quickly, and this solves that for you. The clicky keys are amazingly satisfying, but not overly annoying to those around you. You will find that the height of the keys is not overly lifted up and so the amount of time needed to press the keys is reduced, making your keystrokes more efficient. Plus, the rating for the reaction time wirelessly is only 1ms......I don't know how they did it, but during gaming I was unable to tell I was using a wireless keyboard. The keyboard is thin, but heavy. It feels like a real piece of hardware vs. some flimsy keyboard that creaks and moans as you move it around. This is heavy enough to stay put when you find the right spot for it, so it won't move around. That is very good when gaming. Or even just typing. I haven't done it yet, but you can set up each key to have its own color from the color spectrum, which is like 16 million colors or something? Once you setup the G HUB software, you can customize the lighting, and setup the G keys - I've just started playing around with this and the choices are endless. Plus, on the keyboard there are media keys, for pausing, skipping, playing, etc. without having to leave the game you are playing to make this happen. There is a volume roller, which is unique, I have not seen this before on any keyboard. If you have spent as much money as I have on a PC for gaming, it would only make sense to invest in a decent keyboard to go with it. This allows you to sit back without wires and game from your chair, bed, etc. without the wire. And your game play will not suffer from the use of this. It is rated at 30 hours of gameplay per charge, and re-charge will take 3 hours. Even if I only got a few hours out of this, it would be worth it....to get up to 30 hours is insane. And to think it only takes 3 hours to fully recharge blows my mind. This is much more than just a gaming keyboard, this is for those who understand that we interact with the keyboard constantly, gaming or not, and want the best you can get. I'm going to get another one of these for my work computer - I type out a lot of work and this keyboard just feels right! So, if you are a writer, or a gamer, or someone who uses a keyboard more than a mouse, you'll want this for sure.

    Incredibly Awesome Keyboard

This keyboard is absolutely amazing. First off i want to say i don't even game but i was still interested in this keyboard for the key response, for typing emails for my business, and for my hot keys for day trading. After hooking this keyboard up with the G703 mouse i was blowin away at how good the keys feel the fast response and the lighting features. I set up the keyboard with custom colors for my hot keys for when i trade and different special effects. I went with the clicky version and like i said it is amazing. Even if you don't game but type a lot of emails or surf the web or need the designated G keys on the left of the keyboard for hot keys for day trading i definitely recommend this. Again this keyboard is second to none with all the features. Highly recommended for anyone with the budget to buy it. Pair it with a awesome G703 mouse and wireless pad like i did and your all set.

4 stars instead of 5 because of the price

I absolutely love this keyboard! I am only giving it 4 stars - that is not because of the keyboard really, I think the build quality is second to none and it is truly a joy to game and type on. I gave it 4 stars because of the price - and the fact that I really wanted one with the "tactile" switches as opposed to the "clicky" ones - but it seems that Best Buy only offers the TKL version with tactile switches and the full keyboard with the clicky ones. Having the num pad was more important to me than having the tactile switches so this was what I opted for. As far as battery life goes - I have been using it for about 5 hours almost every evening since I purchased it and it's charge level is sitting at 82% right now. I like Logitech products a lot - I keep a G Pro keyboard in my backpack with my laptop for when I game at a buddie's place so I was familiar with the GHub software prior to this purchase. All in all - the software is very straight forward. The keyboard is fantastic to use and look at, the battery life is fantastic, and I can't say much about the range of the USB dongle because my computer tower is very close to the keyboard itself - also on the wireless topic, there is NO INPUT LATENCY WHATSOEVER! If you use it paired via bluetooth, there is the typical few milliseconds of latency - but that's to be expected with all bluetooth peripherals. However, using the Logitech LightSpeed or whatever they call it USB receiver - no latency at all. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes mechanical keyboards and prefers to have a few wires visible as possible!

    I am a HUGE fan

I've been a mechanical keyboard user for 8 years, however I've never been a fan of cables. I switched to the Apple Magic Keyboard to cut the cables, but found that it really caused finger fatigue and became painful after long extended use. After doing some searching and comparisons, I decided to go with this keyboard with the clicky switch.I was skeptical due to my experience with the "Magic" keyboard, however this has a bit more travel and a satisfying "click." The key travel offers greater distance than Apple's keyboard, but much less than a traditional Cherry MX Blue switch; the latter factor took some getting used to but once I did I was able to increase my WPM by about 10%, which is a great benefit. As a Mac user I really appreciate the fact that the GHUB software is Mac compatible. I really like Razer products, but the fact that Synapse 3 is Windows only makes it a non-starter for me. While this keyboard is primarily for work at home use, I do like the programmable lighting scheme and it makes my job a lot more fun to use. Overall the compatibility, the clicky feel and overall build quality makes it a big win in my book. 10/10 would recommend, especially if you're a Mac user looking for a compatible wireless mechanical keyboard.

    Absolutely Best Keyboard

Spending many, many hours in a keyboard during the day, I am always looking for something better. I have found the “better” and this keyboard breaks all rules. I tested it one day on the shelf and told everyone I had found the Heaven of keyboards. Logitech’s new mechanism in the G915 is extremely responsive, light to the touch while not being over sensitive. After talking about it for two months, I bought one. The price point is a lot for a keyboard but there is not a better one on the market. Software is very easy to configure and the lit keys are super. If you are looking for the best work or gaming keyboard, this is it. My only complaint is I wish they made one in an ergonomic layout. Otherwise, great job Logitech. This one knocks it out of the park.

    Good keyboard but overpriced

TL;DR, don't buy this unless you absolutely want a wireless full RGB mechanical keyboard, and you are okay with Logitech switch instead of the industry standard cherry mx switches. Let's not forget, this is a $250 keyboard, it is one of the most expensive mass-produced keyboards in the mechanical keyboard market. So, it is only fair to hold it to the highest standard. The positive: the build quality is superb, very minimal deck flex and everything on it feels very solid and well built. In my opinion the low profile switch is actually decent. Per key RGB is nice and bright, the logitech G hub software is surprisingly good. It also gets good battery life IF and only if the RGB isn't on all the time. Logitech definitely got a lot of things right. The negative: NO USB TYPE C??????? seriously????? this is inexcusable for a $250 keyboard, and the included micro-B cable is not even braided and feels super cheap. Keycaps on this board are finger oil magnets, and non-standard, so look elsewhere if you are into custom keycaps. Additionally, there is no num lock indication lock.

This is a complete splurge type item. I am actually typing from this keyboard leaving this review and I can say that its easily the most comfortable typing keyboard I have used. This is strictly a personal preference, One person's preference for different type of keys can be very different so would heavily recommend the different key types that they usually have on display. You must try them before spending anything above $100 on a keyboard. I happen to get this on a sale day, and just received a bonus and felt like I could get one splurge item, and this was it. The wireless connects nearly instantly, never seen lag while playing Destiny and Halo. The wireless part was a concern, but after using it, never looked back. Charging it is the only complaint that I have, as it can take up to an hour once its depleted. But I only have to charge once ever three or four weeks with moderate use.

The G915 is great. The clicky sound sold me and it has a very good quality feel to it. I wish the macro buttons were a little farther away from the rest of the keyboard and the RGB lighting was a little bit brighter, but other than that it's great. It has a bunch of extra feature such as the volume scroll and macro selector set. The Ghub app compliments the experience of the keyboard with it's customizations. I have my Logitech BRIO and Yeti X on there as well :)
