Really bad connectivity and app

The sound quality is good I guess. But connectivity is really bad. When I put my phone in lower pockets and walk around sound starts to stutter sometimes and I have to hold the phone in my hands or upper pockets + left eabud laggs behind in terms of connectivity. Often it takes 1-2 minuts until it connects to my phone (2 different phones with the same result). Another problem is the app. first of all it is relly laggy + equaliser is on the state of infinite "loading". Another minor problem is its touch control. it is too sensive and wen I'm trying to listen to somthing laying on the bed, when it slightly touches pillows or enithing else it pauses what I was listening to. On the positive side, I liked earbud's shape and cover.

I love these but not for the sound quality. I love these because they are comfortable, they are so comfortable I forget I'm wearing them. The case is also pretty small and easy to put in a pocket without causing to much bulk.
I normally hate earbuds as they start to hurt my ears after an hour of listening. I even bought really expensive ones thinking that would fix the issue, it did not. While the very expensive ones I have produce amazing sound, but they are hard for me to use due to the comfort.
These earbuds are so comfortable and easy to use that they have become my new earbuds to use at work. They were easy to setup and pair with my phone and laptop. I highly recommend that you download the Marshall app to at least get the latest firmware. You can also adjust the equalizer, view battery life, make changes to touch controls, and adjust the battery preservation. The batter preservation adjusts charging the ear buds to a maximum of 90%, changing charging speed, and limit charging when temps are high. It's nice that Marshall included this to help keep your earbuds in good battery health for as long as possible.
The case for the earbuds has a nice cracked leather look and the Mashall logo is in a nice white soft plastic. It looks great but the case feels like a cheapish plastic, but the earbuds themselves have a great feel and look. The earbuds feature a bronze cap at the bottom and mesh screen to cover the speaker. These accents make the earbuds look pretty nice and the M on the end of earbud looks nice as well and is functional. The M is the touch point to make adjustments, like raise and lower the volume, skip to the next song, and to answer calls. The earbud commands are very easy to use, and the earbud gives a soft click sound to let you know it's been touch. Also, when you take out one earbud whatever you're listening too or watching automatically pauses.
As for sound quality, while I'm not blown away, they sound pretty good. You can hear everything clearly but doesn't mask outside noises. This is actually why I like them because I can clearly hear what I'm listening too, but if someone comes into my office to talk, I can still hear them without issue (listening at a lower volume level). Plus, they are super comfortable, and I can wear them at work until the battery gets low or dies.
If you need a solid set of earbuds that can be used for everyday use, these are the ones you want.

These earbuds are hands down one of the best I have had, and I've many. They come inside a nice little package. They include a carrying case that feels almost like leather (but you can tell its plastic), they also include a tiny USB cable, however I was greatly surprised the case supports wireless charging too, so that is great. The fit of the earbuds is perfect and they stay perfectly inside my ear canals, even when running or doing some physical activity. They say to be somewhat water resistant to liquids like sweat (IPX4). Once fully charged I installed their app on my phone and pairing them with it was super easy. All I had to do is open the flap on the case and my phone detected them and got paired via Bluetooth. Then added them on their app. There was an initial firmware update that went quick. After that I explored the app and it seems very well done. It has tons of customization like an Equalizer, touch controls etc. They have amazing sound and you can customize it with the app like I mentioned with an equalizer. The earbuds themselves are touch sensitive so you can tap and/or hold them to perform several functions, like play, pause, etc. music, answer calls, your preferred voice assistant.
Battery life was also great, have been using them through the day at work and battery was still going strong, and in between I put them inside the carrying case, which charges them on the go too. In the app you can also control several features to preserve your battery life (like not charging them past 90%, not charging if they hot etc).
I highly recommend these if you are looking for comfy, great quality earbuds and with great battery life.

I have several Marshall speakers spread around the rooms in my home and garage (the OG Stanmore, Acton II, and Emberton II), but these Marshall Minor IVs are my first headphones/buds. While I had some misgivings upon their unboxing, those misgivings are gone and I am absolutely chuffed at how much I like these things!
Like I said above, I was a tad bit concerned about how good these were going to be once I took them out of the box and felt how plastic-ey and light they were. After years of chonky and pleather coated speakers from Marshall, I was sure that the folks at Marshall had cut some major corners on these Minor IVs. I was wrong and I owe the fine folks at Marshall an apology for even considering that they were not turning out a great product.
I could wax poetic on all the things I like (or love) about these things but I’m going to try to keep this review a bit more contained and hit the prime things you probably are most interested in if you are reading this.
Likes/Loves:
- Sound Quality: This is of course the biggest one, because if they don’t sound good, it doesn’t really matter what other bells and whistles it has. No open earbud is going to be audiophile quality but these are just as good as any other maker of similarly styled buds (which are my favorite style because I HATE ones with silicone tips that have to be crammed down into my ears). Now a lot of credit for that great sound is due to my next highlight:
- Equalizer: The equalizer settings that you can configure for the Minor IVs through the app can totally help you ‘dial-in’ that sound you want. Quite a few other earphone apps will let you play with some or all of the frequency settings but Marshall gives you some great presets as well at total control of each frequency bands. I’m partial to the ‘V’ setting for my music. I do have a minor quibble dealing with the Equalizer but I’ll hit that in the Meh’s/Don’t Like section.
- Volume: The Minor IVs can get dangerously loud without distortion. Now, my audiologist would definitely put this in the ‘bad’ column, but I dig that I can crank the tunes when I want without it devolving into static and squeals. Just be careful.
- The Marshall Bluetooth App: Outstanding controls, connectivity, and resources for your headphones. Probably the best app for a headphone I’ve used.
- Battery Life: The battery life on the Minor IVs is outstanding. I ran these headphones through my 4 hour and 7 minute audiophile test playlist and then continued just listening to my regular music for another 2-2.5 hours and these earbuds were at 30% when I put them back in the case. I don’t know how these things are as light as they are and yet still seem to have such great power reserves.
Meh’s/Don’t Likes:
- Weight: While I appreciate that most people like the fact that the earbuds themselves and even the earbuds in the case are so light, there are still some times that I feel like these may be TOO light. I had a few panic attacks when I thought the battery case had fallen out of my jacket, but they were still there. Also, by being as light as they are, they can get flung out of your ears pretty easy with some sudden movements (like whipping your head around when your wife sneaks up on you and taps you on the shoulder to see what you are grooving to).
- Stored EQ Settings: I love that I can switch between two different EQ settings through the touch controls, I just wish that they were both able to be configured by the user and not just one of them. The ‘Marshall Sound’ that is locked in to the EQ1 slot is too neutral to my ears and I have yet to listen to any track in my eclectic selection of music that sound better with this setting over the other presets or my own settings. If Marshall could unlock that slot and/or add another slot, that would be awesome.
- Touch Controls: Great in that they work really well, bad in that the Minor IVs are a bit too sensitive to touch. Just pushing a bit on the earbud to adjust your fit can and more often than not, will, set off whatever control you have set for 1-tap. I also wish that there more controls that could be switched from either the left or right earbud rather than the ones that Marshall assigned to each. Not a deal breaker, just a wish for a future firmware update (wink, wink, Marshall).
All-in-all, I am pretty darn thrilled with the Minor IVs and these are probably going to be my day-to-day buds from here on out. If you are looking for a pair of great sounding earbuds, you could do A LOT worse than the Minor IVs but would be hard pressed to find BETTER.

Uncompromising Sound But Just Didn't Work For Me
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I take my music very seriously, and the Marshall Minor IV upholds that expectation. The sound is rich & warm, as Marshall is known for. Crisp & clear, with no discernable distortion at any frequency. The bass is amazing to say the least; unless you’ve used them, it’s hard to grasp that strong bass that some people’s home theater can’t effectively reproduce, can be produced on the small scale on the Marshall Minor IV.
I got these, charged them, paired them, and began listening. It’s just that good. It doesn’t matter what genre you listen to, they sound incredible no matter what. I’ve listened to rock, country, classical, opera, rap / hip-hop…the assessment is always the same; the music sounds great.
I will admit that I do own other Marshall products. That said, for years, the app has always ‘just worked’. It’s simple and straightforward, from pairing the Minor IV’s, to listening to music, to customizing controls, and to performing a firmware update. It has a cool retro vibe with modern capability and aesthetic. I’ve never experienced a time when one or both earbuds dropped out or the app froze up. This app is actually useful, and not just ‘there’ due to customer expectation. The Marshall Minor IV will pair and work fine with your phone’s Bluetooth, but you really need to install the app and use the Marshall equalizer to fully appreciate this product.
I like the fact that the case / earbuds are chargeable wirelessly. I like that the earbuds themselves have some shiny brass on the tips that come downward from your ears. The case is improved from past renditions regarding the lid; it has a soft click that holds it open when you need; it feels stiff and well-made. The case is textured for aesthetics and also grip; the grip is increased by the use of rubber for the white Marshal script / logo. The volume is accessible on the earbuds by a tap and hold; left earbud to decrease volume and right earbud to increase it. The battery lasts a really long time on one charge, and the app includes a Battery Preservation function where you can give priority to charging speed, the temperature during charging (a faster charging leads to a higher temperature), or the maximum charge attained at 'full charge'.
There are some Cons to discuss:
· The part of the earbud that sits in / near the ear canal doesn’t seem to seat perfectly, so I feel like my music isn’t as hard-hitting as expected due to acoustics.
· The earbuds do not have a large surface area on the outside to tap for control, which actually helps you hit the area that you intend. However, there is no (zero) texture on the entire earbud, so my fingers slide off when I’m trying to remove them from the case; it’s extremely annoying.
· The larger issue, is that due to the lack of texture on the earbud (texture of the plastic or tacky silicone for instance), they easily fall out of my ears. I use these around the house, for work, relaxing on my balcony, and for when I need to make a phone call. Since they fall out of my ears so easily, I cannot use them for walking / jogging, or for phone calls / music where I could lose the earbud and not get it back (grocery store, mall, walking on the street).
For those reasons, they are getting a 3 out of 5 stars. Everyone’s ear / canal / anatomy is different, so what didn’t work quite well for me will work great for others. These really are great earbuds, so despite the 3 stars, I would highly recommend to a friend. I trust Marshall.

Out of the box the case was very impressive looking. First impressions are these are a high quality set of earbuds. They connected to my phone seamlessly and because I already had the Marshall application on my phone they were immediately recognized by the application when I opened it. In a matter of just a quick few minutes taking them out the box I had them connected and was listening to music through them.
The sound quality was phenomenal. I do not have AirPods to compare them to as I do not own Apple devices but these are on par with my Bose earbuds that I typically use when I am working out or doing things around my house. These are much smaller profile than those and offer crisper highs and still have good bass for earbuds. The touch features are very intuitive and respond very well while they are in my ears. You can also customize what you want the taps to be via the application.
One feature I really like is that the case can charge wirelessly. So I can place it onto my wireless phone charger on my nightstand when I'm not using it for my phone and will charge the phone case. These are also water-resistant so if you like to play sports outside or enjoy outdoor activities you don't have to worry about if it starts to rain or you get sweaty wearing them. My only gripe is how difficult they are sometimes to take out of the case because there's no texture on them to get them out of the case so you have to sort of twist them as you take them out of the case.
Pros
- Outstanding sound
- Great connectivity and distance
- Wireless rechargeable case
- High quality looks and sound
Cons
- Difficult to take out of the case
- No silicone style bud so your ears may be a little sore
Overall these are a great pair of ear buds that rival even some of the best ones from Bose or JBL. When paired with the app on your phone you can also customize a lot of different features and the sound equalizer for exactly the type of music you're listening to.

Amped Up Earbuds that (Mostly) Rock!

As a guitarist, I am very familiar with Marshall for their amps and signature tone, so I was excited to see how they translated their audio knowledge into the headphone space. I was immediately drawn to the aesthetics and thought the "Tolex" texture of the plastic case was a cool nod to the common guitar amp texture. The case is nice and compact, and I like the pogo pin design used to make contact with the earbud contact points for charging. The earbuds look great and capture the Marshall aesthetic with subtle gold accents without being too flashy and over-the-top. The in-ear fit is very comfortable. They are one-size-fits-all, unlike other products that include different-sized rubber tips. Even with their fully plastic body, they fit well in my ears.
The pairing process was straightforward. Activating pairing mode with the button on the case and then adding the earbuds to additional host devices was easy and painless. The earbuds paired with my phone and laptop effortlessly.
The smartphone app adds some nice additional customization features. After installing the Android app, it recognized the earbuds right away, and I installed a quick firmware update. The EQ presets and customizable EQ controls are easy to use and made a noticeable difference, though the default "Marshall" settings are adequate for calls and most music genres. The touch controls are intuitive and easy to master for controlling playback. I found the touch gestures to be very responsive, and I also liked how the media playback would pause automatically when I took them out of my ears and placed them on my desk. Being able to adjust or disable these tap gestures via the app is a nice touch, as some people may not care for them.
However, the volume is a little too quiet in noisy environments. Even at max volume, I had trouble hearing during calls in a moderately noisy setting. Despite the playback volume being subpar, the microphone performance is satisfactory. The noise filtering works pretty well: the other parties on my calls could hear me clearly even when some environmental noise was picked up.
Overall, these are solid earbuds with a cool aesthetic, solid craftsmanship, and good sound quality. Although they can lack volume in certain noisy environments, the pros outweigh the cons, making them a reliable set of earbuds with good audio quality and app support.

Good but not Great

I have owned on-ear headphones made by Marshall before and was very impressed with the audio quality and craftsmanship so I was looking forward to my first Marshall earbuds. They ended up meeting my expectations for craftsmanship but were not close to the audio quality I have experienced with other high-end products. However, overall, they are a decent buy. Here were my thoughts.
Pros:
- The set-up process was very easy. After installing the app it recognized the earbuds right away and installed a quick firmware update.
- The touch controls are intuitive and easy to get the hang of. The app is very convenient at allowing you to customize the touch controls if you wish.
- I love the design of the case. It has a retro feel with a leathery texture. This gives you a nice grip on them and keeps it from being easily dropped.
- The in-ear fit was very comfortable. These are designed similar to air pods in that they just sit in your ear without the need for rubbery ear tips. I can jump with them and not feel like they are going to fall out so I expect them to stay in place during workouts without issue.
Cons:
- The sound quality was good but not great. I hoped that the equalizer could help with this (I wanted a little more bass) but I could not get it to load in the app. Hopefully a future app update will fix this.
These earbuds are solid and would be good for folks looking for a middle of the road option that isn't too expensive and provides good features and decent audio quality.

Compact value earbuds with OK sound.

Marshall - Minor IV True Wireless Earbuds - Black
Summary: Compact value earbuds with OK sound.
Pros:
* Sound. The sound quality for mid-level earbuds is OK. These units have balanced audio with an adjustable app equalizer. Without being able to customize the audio, the default profile would be quite flat.
* Build. These units are light. On the verge of feeling cheap. However, given the price point and intended use - this is actually a plus. Light weight means they stay in my ears better and won't leave them feeling sore.
* Looks. These units look nice and the case itself very Marshall.
* Mobile App. The mobile app configuration/pairing process is easy with a pretty basic setup and the equalizer controls.
* Price Point. The price for these units is fair and offers sound quality similar to most entry-mid level units.
* Wireless Charging. The convenience of wireless charging cannot be overstated. There is something to plopping your gear on a pad and letting them charge. But if you don't have a Qi charger, fret not, they accept USB-C.
Cons:
* Features. I'm not sure what price point I would expect such a feature, but it was a bit surprising that noise cancellation is not available.
* Connectivity. Removing the earbuds from your ears disconnects them from your phone or computer. You have to connect to them again once you reinsert them into your ears. This is weird. Most earbuds have a pause on removal, but not a disconnect.
Use:
We have a multitude of earbuds in use in our household. From ones used for hikes, to ones used to sleep, and everything in between. These fall into the daily use while at work or where awareness is required - mainly due to the absence of noise cancellation. These units are among the lightest we own so they don't leave our ears tired or sore so these are good as a daily driver. They do this while playing decent audio. These don't compare to high end earbuds. No thundering bass, no rich immersive sound, no environmental tuning, etc., but definitely OK audio.
If you're looking for a set of earbuds that won't break the bank, want OK quality audio, and need the basics of Qi charging and equalizer control, then these units might suit you - particularly if you're prone to losing or damaging your earbuds. If you're interested in more features, superior audio, etc., you're going to have to pay for it and these won't make for a reasonable substitute.
I don't think we'd make the same purchase for these reasons.

Hello, thank you for your review and feedback regarding the Minor IV. It sounds like the open-fit earbuds aren't for you, the Motif II ANC with the sizing sleeves and inner ear canal fit may be better suited to your preferences. Keep in mind that the open fit vs. the seal of sizing tips will also influence the audio experience: if you don't get the right fit with the Minor IV, you may not be getting the designed audio experience either. The Minor IV use the Marshall Bluetooth app to provide the user the opportunity to set the touch controls and other features to their own preferences, this means it is possible to change or disable the touch controls. Thanks for trying the Minor IV and for your feedback.

With my job I spend a lot of time on the phone and I also need to be aware of my surroundings. I've tried a lot of different Bluetooth headphones that had an in ear design with the rubber tips and my ears would get very uncomfortable after using them for longer periods of time. Enter the Marshall Minor IV. Sound, excellent. Battery life, excellent. With multipoint I am connected to my work laptop for all my call and meetings and I can sneak in a podcast on my phone when I have time while switching flawlessly between both. The design is also great. I love the soft touch leather feel of the case which is also extremely pocketable. The earbuds with the knurled detail and contrasting brass color look great. The case can also wireless charge which is a nice convenience. The controls, that you can turn on or off in the app, are basic but it's all you need. Getting into my favorite thing about these, the fit. You could wear these all day and experience zero discomfort. If you need to you can also use one at a time and switch them back and forth if you needed to. These do not provide any passive noise isolation or do any active noise cancellation. If you are in a noisy environment or just want to drown out background noise then look elsewhere, you could go with the Marshall Motiff II if you want in ear or their Monitor II if you want over ear. Plugging Marshall because I'm very impressed with these. These would not be good on a plane but that's a completely different scenario. If you need headphones that you can wear all day and you don't need to completely isolate from your surroundings I highly recommend these. Last night I wore these while I was making dinner and I was still aware of everything going on and it was nice using them to just add a little background music to the moment.

Hi Trah, thanks for your review. Marshall does its best to make an earbud fit all users, but when they only come in one form fit, there is bound to be some users that the earbuds won't fit perfectly. We are sorry they aren't a good fit for you. Give the Motif II ANC a try, they come with 4 different sized ear-tips that will allow you to find the best fit for you.

Compared to similar headphones like AirPods, you get basically the same product, but with the Marshall sound. They link to your phone and other devices easily. Using the app with this product is simple. The multi touch control aren’t as advanced as AirPods, but now being able to use touch to change volume control is great. No issue with battery life or charging.
