This truly is an amazing piece of machinery. The chassis is extremely stylish and portable. As a gaming system, it can run all of the most popular games out at max settings 60fps, and combined with its portability and battery life, it is a no-brainer at the price. Highly recommended.

    Great for work, play, school

So I had grown up using Windows Machines and had a bad experience with a Lenovo, and got tired of dual booting into Linux all the time. I spent 3 years using a Macbook Pro as a developer but quickly grew tired of having to multiboot or parallels off that to use industry standard tools in a Windows environment. When my wife's old laptop started to shows its age we decided to pick her up a GS63 Stealth as her primary work machine. A few months after that we decided I should get rid of the Macbook and pick myself up a new computer. Enter: The MSI GS65. This thing is great. I originally picked it up to run a various smattering of software dev tools that I find perform better in a Windows environment (Vivado anyone?) and I wanted something I could eventually play games on. I dabble in WoW and have a large growing Steam library but not enough time given grad. school, a full time job, and a rampaging toddler. That said, I still enjoy whipping this bad boy out and using it as my end all be all for portable computing. You want to do school work? This will do your school work. You want to play video games? This will play your games. You want to browse Reddit? Yeah, sure this will do that too. This laptop will literally do whatever you throw at it. You want to pretend to do school work while AFK'ing 100+grifts in Diablo 3 with Reddit on the sidebar showing off all that sweet karma you've amassed posting cat pictures? Yeah, you can do that. You can do all of that while sitting in your Diff. EQ course pretending to take notes on that slab of paper that has "I <3 'whatserface'" scribbled all over it. If you have this laptop you'd be writing about how much you love it instead. Don't just take my word for it, try it out for yourself. On top of being able to browse and game your way into failing out of college, this laptop will let you browse and game your way to an 'F' in any course (with ease) using the HDMI and DisplayPort to broadcast your failing grades to your parents 85" television over winter break... When all you really wanted to do was show off "how sick your background and light up keyboard" are. Did I mention the keyboard lights are individually programmable? No? Well they are. You want pink keys? Check. You want a rainbow? This will do that. You want a light pattern that looks like you're flushing the toilet - yup! There's a preset for that. This computer is a desktop replacement that doesnt weigh 60lbs and only requires a single electrical socket. I would recommend this to a friend. I would also recommend it to their friends who don't like me because I'm just that kind of nice guy. Your grandma would like this computer because the keyboard changes colors. Your cat will like this because its just a cat and this thing gets pretty warm... Cats like it warm. I'm a dog person. I am also a fan of MSI and would definitely purchase this again. What don't I like about this? I dont like the forward facing lights for keyboard and status indicators. Other than the forward facing LEDs, I like everything else.

Solid Gaming Entry Level Deep Learning Machine

This computer is an all around good value imho given the build quality reliability and performance I have gleaned from others reviews as has been corroborated by my experience with the system so far. From my research the video card NVIDIA GTX 2060 is a good entry level deep learning capable GPU, and with 6GB of DDR6 RAM 16GB DDR4 system RAM, and a 512 GB SSD this computer should not be outgrown given some time based even upon my avid above average usage. Anything beyond what this computer can comfortably handle can easily be passed off to cloud computing making this a great base computer regardless of the task at hand. Really like the speed of the machine also, seems faster than the specifications would even suggest. Also the build quality and fit and finish of this machine is A1 quality, very solid indeed. Overall more than pleased with this machine, actually excited about it. Thanks, William

Thin & light, for serious gaming and serious work

I needed a laptop that was versatile. A laptop that was good for light use like browsing and sending emails and that had a relatively good battery and power usage. At the same time, I wanted something that could also be hooked up to power for serious work, like video editing and serious gaming. Light work (browsing, youtube, email): This thing is amazing, you can put the laptop on Eco mode in the MSI dragon center. Eco mode clocks the processor down to 1ghz which is good for light use and then you can literally choose to set the fans speed exactly to what percentage you want. You end up having a very quiet and thin laptop and light compared to the competitors, it is almost like have an ultrabook like experience (which was my previous laptop). The main difference is obviously that the battery does not last as long as an ultrabook and it gets warmer than one but obviously, you should expect this with the amount of power packed into this small form factor. The fact that we can start to compare this laptop to an ultrabook is just amazing. This would have been impossible just a few years ago. Continuing on the light work, I put the fan speed to advance in the MSI dragon center and set it to 30%, this is leaving only 1 fan on and the other fan is turned off. The CPU temp is around 43C which is great. I basically can't hear anything, no fan noise! In this case I had my laptop on my desk and elevated on the back with a laptop stand. So I'm sure it will get warmer on your lap or a carpeted floor. So I tried this at it went up to about 50c. Heavy work (gaming, video editing): Obviously, the fans make noise while gaming or heavy workload like video editing and gaming but that's fine because I expect that and I wear headphones most of the time when doing that. The laptop has serious horsepower and has been having good temps with heavy load on the CPU and GPU temps. Just Cause 4 on maxed out graphic settings is giving me steady 65frames/sec with temps in low 80C. This is with the stock paste, which might be an option to improve in the future, only bother thing is that the motherboard is upside down so it won't be as easy to reach and will take more time. But in my opinion, if you are one of those that repaste their thermals than your also able to disassemble this thing. Lots of guides and videos on youtube showing and explaining how to do that. Further details: -Great keyboard typing and RGB lighting from steel series with individual RGB lighting with lots of options of changing the colors. I think I'd like the keyboard font to be different, it reminds me of the first spiderman movies or the PlayStation 3 printed over the 1st gen PlayStation 3's, which is almost too gamer like? Not sure, maybe just a bit outdated, all I know is they could have gone with a different font but not a deal breaker. -The screen is great, great colors, viewing angles, crisp view, thin bezels. 144Hz is great, IPS is definitely a plus. -Port selection is great and goes beyond its rivals, with ethernet and dedicated headphone jack and separate mic jack -MSI tuning software, dragon center is great, needs some getting used to initially but once you get the hang of it it really gives you control of the laptop and the mobile app is appreciated. Cons (Mousepad): The main drawback up to now is the mouse pad, although its larger than last years model, it's not as good an experience as I'd like it to be. It's definitely not horrible, and it's workable. It needs time to get used to but not excellent. Why? 2 issues. -I feel I need to push down on the mouse pad stronger than I normally should to get a physical click. And I have read this issue already existed with the previous model so its too bad they didn't solve this. -Palm recognition is an issue for me. Several times it has recognized my palm on the mouse pad as a finger and a finger gesture. Maybe this could be solved with a software update in the future. The surface and texture of the mouse pad is definitely nice. All in all the mousepad is not a deal breaker for me, as I am getting used to it and it is working out. MSI Driver and app center (minor issue): This app could be improved in my opinion. You can refresh the app and it shows you all the newest drivers and apps to download but sometimes it displays the older version of a driver as an update even though your laptop already has a newer one driver. It just shows you the version and leaves it up to you to install. Now that would be fine most of the time because you can just see that the version number is older and not install it but sometimes it gives you a version number that is not comparable to the current one, e.g. the current driver on your laptop is with numbers and letters and the supposed new one is only numbered in a different format so you can't really tell if its new or not unless you install it. I would not prefer this trial and error, which is unnecessary. Also, I installed the killer wifi app which caused my wifi card not to be recognized and I couldn't access the internet. That was an issue, especially if your not into computers that would be a big issue. Luckily I just manually reinstalled the wifi driver and everything was back to normal. Normally the whole point of software like this is that it is especially useful for someone who does not know how to deal with laptops and drivers, so it is problematic if this would accidentally kick out your wifi driver. Anyhow no issue for me. Obviously, you can just avoid this all and manually download everything from their site. Build quality: Overall build quality is good, not much body/keyboard flex when pushing on it and little flex to the screen when twisting. There is a bit of a creaking at the left hinge of the screen when I open the screen, but I am hoping this is normal. It's not that loud and goes away when I open the laptop in one smooth movement but it is more audible when opening it slowly. Final thoughts: All in all, it's a light, thin, power and versatile laptop with amazing features. Great to use as a daily browser and great for heavy work.

Got this on sale for just 1399$, for that price it is an amazing value. Pros: Lightweight and elegant design (for a gaming laptop) Fast processor and graphics Relatively quiet for a gaming laptop 70 FPS Witcher 3 on ultra out of the box (Hairwork off) 100+ FPS Apex legends 144 HZ display with great colors and viewing angles. fast SSD Great battery life for a gaming laptop (3-4 hours of programming and intense non gaming work ) Thunderbolt 3 port Cons: Single channel memory, The other slots is free so you can populate it with another stick of RAM, which i highly recommend that you do. Assassin creed odyssy will almost double the frame rate just by adding antoher stick of RAM (memory bandwidth bottleneck, not capacity). It would have been better if MSI used 2x8GB instead of one 16 GB stick The motherboard is flipped making getting to the rams and SSD installations more difficult

Good Computer for gaming and work

The main reason I went with this computer was for the weight and the speed. It is pretty light for a gaming laptop. The GS65 runs games well with no hiccups so far. Metro has been fun and the video/audio is good on this laptop. The only problem I have had is the lighting for the keyboard. It comes with the background light pulsing and it is not obvious how to change the color or stop the pulsing. I finally found a post explaining how to use the Steelseries app to change it. This was not enough of an issue to ding it a full star though. For me, the keyboard and trackpad have been working well. As for work, no issues with those programs but I did not expect any there. Overall, I would purchase again.

Just picked this machine up and I have no regrets. I was in the market for a new laptop, and this managed to include everything I was looking for. I am impressed with how thin and light it is, especially that it packs a RTX 2060 under the roof. The 144hz screen complements it so well. What was most amazing was the price for the specs, especially when you factor in a 512GB SSD. The design of this laptop is amazing, it is very subtle and not obnoxious. Of course, nothing is perfect. I felt the battery life could have been better (3-4+ hours). Overall I highly recommend this. I usually don't write reviews but felt the need to as I absolutely love this machine.

This will be my first gaming computer and I can honestly say I am impressed. The light weight makes it portable, computer keeps cool even when running multiple software and games, impressive battery life and to top it off a great design. Only issue I ran into is the speakers are not high end, meaning do not expect some type of surround sound. I did run into some issues with the "free stuff" which is advertised. I was not able to redeem the two games which Nvidia promises with purchase. Seems they have a limited supply or the codes are not all guaranteed.. as well with the Black ops game Intel promised seems they ran out... further more great laptop for its price completely recommend it to anyone looking for portable gaming!

I absolutely love my MSI stealth laptop! I have had a macbook pro for over 8 years and when it finally gave up on me I went back to windows. I do casual gaming and video editing so I needed a laptop that would be able to handle the graphics and speed I wanted. This laptop doesnt disappoint! The custom keyboard adds a cute little touch because you can even customize keys you use frequently to be a different color then the rest. I love the suede bottom as well keeps the laptop cool on your legs. Definitely recommend this laptop to anyone wanting something more then a basic laptop.

So I just picked up this laptop, after really digging into all the available options out there. I focused on MSI, Asus ROG, Alienware, Razer, Dell. Things I was looking for. Battery 144hz display Screen brightness Video card Storage and RAM upgrade ability Thunderbolt USB 3.0/1 audio I went for this model because it took out all the guess work, it marked off everything on the check list and then some. There are always sacrifices, going into the CONS first, like upgrade ability, kind of difficult if you have never opened a laptop before, and even more difficult if you don't know how to handle internal components, like ribbons. There is no easy access. However if you can follow the youtube vids you can upgrade it. Build quality is good but not great, the aluminum build is pretty solid, but does not feel as solid as a Razer or a Macbook pro. Some reviews (x4 and mine) complain about creaks, mine does creak as well but not as much as some of the other descriptions. MSI could do better with ensuring the internals are secured. Just a bit of quality assurance goes a long way. Sound is not great but does the trick. I did adjust it using the nahimic software to get it to what I like with what the speaker can produce. If you use headphones, then you are all set, I would use the 3.5mm port, you can beat hi-res audio. Finger print magnet is another issue, it is a bit of an annoyance to see smudges on this good looking laptop. Guess MSI knew about this which is why they provide a microfiber cloth. Ok now on to the good. Price, the configuration I have, the starting price offered by Best Buy was around $400 less than a Razer with the exact same configuration/ports/screen/graphics card. Dell G7 cost more, and the dell reviews are nothing but complaints on their website for the G7. Which is surprising. Asus is a bit behind only advertising GTX models, and some of those models have USB 2.0 for a 2k dollar laptop, SKIP. So all in all price is where it should be. Lenovos RTX model with the same specs is cheaper but they skimp on the battery big time. Which get's me to the battery, it is a perfect size battery at 82 watt hours. Only some gaming laptops out there like the Aero have a big battery. The touch pad is oversized and GREAT i love it. Very smooth, and premium. Things I don't care for, webcam, not really gonna use it and can disable it using the hot key which disables the hardware. Still good enough for a quick chat, and at least it is not a nose cam. Thermals could be better, kind of makes me nervous at how hot core temps can get but I trust the 3 fans will get the job done. Some added pluses - Shortcut keys for the RGB keyboard, scroll through the pre-set options. Can set windows to show HRD video streaming. All in all this is a great machine. Waiting for Doom Eternal.

I've had a Surface Pro for several years which I LOVED, however, I needed something that could also play games on high settings. So far, this is great! The graphics look amazing to me. The system runs quick and there are tons of customization settings for the pro gamer. The keyboard light show you can customize is also a ton of fun. You can literally set each key to whatever you want. Hours can be wasted. I will say it can run hot when gaming for hours, so I definitely recommend having the back end set up for good air flow. Overall, happy first timer.

This computer does everything for me. Able to play graphic intensive games like Division 2, Destiny, Warframe, etc. and record/ stream gameplay with stellar performance. Fans do get a little noisy when running at peak performances but that's a small price to pay for this beautiful machine. Very sleek in design and lightweight. I would really give this laptop 4.5 stars but I'm rounding up. The build quality is very good, but not great. But once you fire it up and start gaming with it, it's very hard not to fall on love with this thing. It's thin and fairly lightweight. I love how portable it is. If you have a gaming desktop you really don't need a giant laptop, you just need something portable so you can game anywhere. This is perfect for that. This laptop is basically as powerful as my 3-4 year old custom built PC. I can play pretty much any game I want on ultra settings @ 60 fps. The 144hz screen is great. I actually bought this with just a little research and because that had a sale going on. I thought if I didn't like it I could just return it. Well, after using it for almost a month now, there is no way I'm returning it. It's exactly what I wanted and needed for on the go gaming at a reasonable price.

First off, let me say that I had the previous model of this laptop (the GS 65 Stealth Thin GTX 1060 version). I enjoyed that one so much that I knew I had to upgrade. I am very glad I did. The build quality on this one is by far superior. It may not look like it from the outside (because they are almost identical in appearances), but just the minor changes here and there are where it is at. This has handled anything I have thrown at it game or software wise without slowing down one bit. It turns heads whenever I bring it out and you would not be able to tell that it was a gaming powerhouse if you did not already know. It has a classy look and feel to it. My favorite feature has to be the new mousepad design. It is something like 35% larger. At first I thought this would get in the way...but when I started using the gestures (which is why it was designed larger) it became apparent why this was a genius move. I am really enjoying it. I will say that the RTX 2060 graphics do not hurt one bit..... MSI has stepped up there game with this one, I was considering this or the Blade. I honestly do not feel like I made a bad decision. With the support and backing that MSI puts behind their products, I can safely say that I may not purchase a different brand again. I truly recommend this if you are wanting something that is easy to take with you and give great performance on the go.

Quick Review of a New Laptop

This is a brand new device, and as I haven't had enough time with it to truly understand its capabilities I will keep this to what I know. The Dragon Center was a nifty little setup utility that my wife enjoyed if nothing else because of the cute little dragon character. I found it helpful for the basic stuff that I worked with it on, like setting the battery power consumption, and when to charge it. I will need to dig further into it to really understand if it is truly worth using or not. The speed of the processor and the performance of the SSD when installing my software was definitely a plus. I know there are faster drives available, but for the price point, to have the i7 CPU, 2060 GPU, and the 512 SSD I think it is a nice package at the cost. By far my favorite thing about this device though is the sheer lack of bloatware that was installed on it. Yes, there is some proprietary software on the device, but in comparison to others, like Toshiba and Sony laptops to name a few, the amount was almost non-existent. The keyboard is nice, and I find the trackpad interesting, given the oversized nature of it. However, once I get my desk, I won't be using either of these unless I'm on the go. Overall, the initial impressions of the device are solid and I look forward to spending more time with it to really root around and see what it can do.

So I am an engineering student that also like to play games on the side, previously I had bought at Razer Blade 15 but returned it when I heard the new RTX models were coming out. At first I wasn't set on the MSI but after seeing the Diamond Cut trim in person I was sold and I'm happy I did. So right off the bat the biggest difference with this between the previous year model is the RTX graphics. and I can tell you the 2060 version is roughly equal to the max-q 1070 version. However that being said the additional cooling pipes used in this machine lead to significally lower temps while gaming to a point where I didn't notice any thermal throttling! Now asthetically the machine is very sleek looking, it has very narrow borders and an excellent keyboard that is honestly a joy to use. The speakers while maybe lack a little bit in the volume department compared to the razers are no slouch, they can get loud while remaining very clear. All in all this has been by far the best laptop I've ever owed.

Being an avid desktop gamer that can't desktop game anymore due to the constant moving with the military I needed to get my fix somehow. I was always hesitant to buy a gaming laptop due to the bulkiness and the lack of power. Then this laptop came into play and let me tell you, this thing blew any doubts I had about a gaming laptop out the window. It's light, sleek yet powerful. It runs AAA games at 60fps or higher without an issue, coupled with the 144hz screen and thin bezel makes anything you look on this screen look smooth like butter on a warm bagel. This laptop is lightweight coming in at about 4ibs, it's also sleek with a beautiful design. When I go to meetings I bring this laptop and I get compliments on how beautiful it looks, something you wont get with an alienware and other competitors. This is most definitely worth the purchase if you were on the fence on getting a gaming laptop, it will set the standard on how a gaming laptop should be.
