Customers are impressed with the Botvac D7's cleaning performance, navigation, and suction power, frequently praising its ease of use and mapping capabilities. However, some users experienced issues with the brush, Wi-Fi connectivity, and dustbin size, while concerns were also raised regarding the vacuum's long-term reliability and cost. The app received positive feedback for its user-friendliness. Despite some drawbacks, many appreciate the scheduling feature and the overall effectiveness of the dirt pickup.

Purchased the Neato D7 after owning a roomba s9 and i7+ For about a month. I returned the S9 because it got stuck on the carpet and the i7 because it didn’t pick up dog hair. I have had the D7 for about a week now and it is vastly superior at cleaning pet hair. I ran the i7 and D7 back to back and the amount of hair picked up by the D7 was astounding. The app for the D7 isn’t as good as the iRobot app, but the vacuum is much better. For the money, the Neato is the best robot vacuum available. Included picture is what the Neato picked up running right after the i7.

I never thought that I would buy a robot vacuum, I always thought of them as somewhat a silly novelty. The D7 is excellent, as I have two cats, and I have dark hardwood floors. I can have animal hair and catbox litter picked up for me by the time I get home from work. It is so nice to come home to a clean floor. On a sidenote for those with carpet, The mechanism and suction on the D7 is so good it picks up so much stray cat hair and dander, and is awesome underneath furniture and the beds where your kitties like to chill out...

Pros
Laser mapping is far more accurate than camera mapping
Unlimited No-Go zones via app without buying tape or towers
Report shows where it has vacuumed each time
Vacuums in consistent straight lines
With gentle navigation it keeps an even distance from everything without missing
Parts that wear and need replacement are easily accessible
Waste bin is comparatively large

Cons
No-Go lines only work with app
Sometimes tries to repeatedly climb items like speaker stands
No real quiet mode
Brush doesn’t seem to do a deep cleaning
Communicates through tones you must memorize instead of voice
Errors for clogs are vague
No dust sensor
No full bin sensor
Spot clean is not configurable
No option to clean just one room
Although robotic vacuums are nothing new, having one that vacuums reliably has been a problem. Neato, more than any other brand, seems to be the company that seems to have finally solved the issue.
The D7 is the top of the line robotic vacuum in the series from Neato. All their vacuums offer similar features with laser mapping and interchangeable parts but what sets the D7 apart is what are called virtual No-Go lines. As the D7 vacuums a room, it starts by vacuuming the perimeter and finding the walls. When it gets to a certain point in the room it will stop and rotate the use the laser to map everything out. What is great about this is as it goes around the perimeter it picks up all the debris near the baseboards and then quickly vacuums the interior. It systematically vacuums room by room, using narrow passages to define what is a room. Unlike other vacuums, this technique means it reliably vacuums every accessible area every time and doesn’t get stuck in a loop vacuuming the same spot over and over. Not only that, but if it must navigate around an object it still has no problem vacuuming straight lines. This is a refreshing change from other brands that often seem to be obsessed with cleaning the same room or vacuuming random diagonal lines after avoiding a piece of furniture.
As part of the mapping technology are what are called virtual No-Go lines. After the D7 has had a chance to vacuum your entire house at least once it will present a very detailed map of your house, including square footage, and allow you to define what are called No-Go zones. To create these zones, you just draw a line with your finger to block off an area. Once saved, the D7 will avoid vacuuming those areas. No need for barrier tape or towers. The system works very reliably and about the only downside is that it only works when you start cleaning via the app. For now, if you initiate vacuuming via Alexa the No-Go lines aren’t used. If for some reason you need to create barriers outside the app, the D7 does come with conventional roll of magnetic strip.
The included manual is lean on details of maintenance, but information is readily available on the internet. Once you see how to do it, the process is actually very simple with no tools required, except the included cleaning brush. If you unsure of maintenance intervals, a handy guide is inside the waste bin compartment. The air filter, combo brush, and spin brush are quick an easy to change. If you have pets with a large amount of hair, it would be best to run the vacuum more frequently. For the first week as it vacuums you may find it gets clogged with pet hair in the intake tube to the waste bin. Thankfully with a straight vacuum path through the D7, cleanup is very easy. After you establish a schedule for vacuuming and the D7 catches up you might be able to have it clean the entire house while only emptying the waste bin at the end.
As mentioned before, the D7 is excellent at vacuuming straight lines in carpet to give a freshly vacuumed look. If you prefer more distinct carpet lines, a different brush bar is available as well at the expense of being less versatile on varied surfaces. If you have a deep pile carpet, the D7 refreshingly is excellent at traversing very tall thresholds. It had no trouble climbing up the edge of a deep pile carpet. However; if you have a deep shag carpet you might find the smaller brush bar might not clean as deep as you want. That said, for deep shag carpets your best bet might be a traditional upright vacuum. The D7 has a quiet and turbo mode. The quiet mode is certainly quieter but not to the point you could comfortably watch TV with it running in the same room. The suction overall is very good. Regardless, robotic vacuums shine when they can vacuum regularly. Although the suction has improved, they just can’t compete with an upright on a single pass. By scheduling it to vacuuming regularly, the vacuum gradually makes progress and will keep with a clean floor that stays looking clean all the time.
Long ago, higher end robotic vacuums evolved to stop wandering aimlessly around the room to vacuum and learned to vacuum in systematic straight lines. Up until recently what had not been fixed was how they would slam into your furniture and rub up against walls as they finally learned to vacuum straight. Refreshingly, the D7 is smart enough to avoid hitting things constantly. On the default settings it will still occasionally rub walls, but a nice feature is hidden in the cleaning settings that can fix even that. It’s called Extra Care Navigation. When enabled, it will keep about a ¼ inch gap from objects and let the spin brush pick up in that area. This allows the D7 to gingerly avoid touching any of your furniture while cleaning thoroughly. It also helps prevent it from going under certain chairs and tables that would tend to cause it to get trapped. It might mean an occasional light, manual touchup is needed but the tradeoff is well worth it. Even with this extra care navigation and ability to climb higher rugs there is still one weak area of the D7. Because it can climb high ledges you might find it will dutifully try to clean the bases of certain items such as speaker stands or floor lamps. As it climbs up the base it will get stuck. A neat feature is as it gets stuck it can extend the wheels and try to back off the obstruction. In the case of these bases though, it just returns right back for another pass. A simple addition of a No-Go line fixes this making it only a minor inconvenience but one to know nonetheless.
Another area that has cause problems in the past is how previous robotic vacuums handled getting stuck or even lost. With how advanced the D7’s mapping technology is, getting lost is a thing of the past. Even if it gets stuck or clogged you can lift it up, fix the problem, and set it back within two feet of where it was, and it is able to continue and even find its way back home. In fact, in nearly two weeks of daily vacuuming the D7 is the first vacuum to never have an issue finding it’s way back to the charging base. One oddity of the D7 is when you decide to stop a cleaning session. Regardless of if you press stop or pause, it will not return home. If it is in the middle of the cleaning cycle it isn’t a big deal. You just press dock and it cancels the cleaning. Where is can be a bit odd is if, say for instance, you are watching a movie and it starts the cleaning process. You must wait a few minutes into the cleaning for it to recognize where it is at, so it can find the base and allow the dock button to activate. You could press stop and just put it back to the base yourself but oddly it seems to get stuck on the dock if manually placed there. As with all oddities of the D7, this is very minor and has an easy workaround.
Overall, the Neato D7 is arguably the best robotic vacuum on the market even if just for the excellent laser mapping technology. It still has room for improvement but, unlike other brands, the flaws are so small that the Neato vacuums really do end up saving you time since they don’t require constant human intervention. Once your routine is set up, the only human intervention required is to empty the dust bin and replace some parts every few months. If you are in the market for a robotic vacuum, it’s hard to go wrong with the Neato D7.

I have bought Neato botvac connected 3 years ago for my wife. I had to return them three times because of something wrong with the Neato. Lot of times it was just randomly will not clean properly or it won’t clean at all or it would start to spin around in circles and just not go anywhere. So the last old one I had I taking it back to Best Buy to get there Newest Neato witch is the D7 and The moment I brought it home to set it up it wouldn’t even move. I called customer service they told me to take it back right away because they saw the error code they didn’t give me any type of satisfaction other than that I had to make an inconvenience to go back to Best Buy to get a new one. So this is my fifth Neato now. So far it works good but let’s see how I holds up a year later or a month. If it don’t work. I’m done. Ohh please do get a Warranty for their products!

This is my third Neato product and it is by far the best. I have also owned a few Roombas, but prefer the design of the Neato because it gets right up to the wall. The mapping feature is amazing and you can set no-go lines for areas that you don’t want cleaned. I have mine set up on a daily schedule, and you would be amazed to see how much this vacuum picks up.

This botvac really does a great job. It room maps your home. You can then setup cleaning zones based on your home map. Setting it up this way is super efficient and convenient. It works with Alexa and Google. After you run it through your home, you can setup no go zones. If you have anywhere it gets stuck it also comes with a no go barrier strip. We named ours Rosie... And no we really are living in the future!

Neato’s Botvac D7 connected brings together a strong blend of hardware, software, and market experience to provide a robot vacuum that’s as close to perfect as any I’ve tested over the last five years.
Pros:
- Excellent overall hardware design, with a low profile and wide brush up front.
- Intelligent and efficient navigation.
- Good cleaning ability.
- Traverses boundaries between rugs and floors without getting confused or losing orientation
- Best battery life I’ve yet seen in a robot vacuum.
- Bullet proof WiFi connection.
- Excellent mapping functions with software boundaries.
- Excellent smartphone app user experience.
- Easy and reliable software update process.
Cons:
- Lack of on-unit screen means you need to open to app to read any messages or errors.
- The dirt bin could be bigger.
- Suction in “eco” mode tends to move some dirt around rather than suck it up.
Design:
The D7 is attractively finished and combines a wide square front (with a brush than spans almost the full width) with a circular back for a very efficient shape. There’s also a small side brush that catches dirt along the edge of the floor. The low profile allows it to fit under beds and many couches without trouble. The matt black finish of the areas which come into contact with walls and furniture is a wise move that helps to avoid visible scratches. We have an original Neato from many years ago and the finish still looks good.
Removing the brushes for cleaning is relatively easy and a simple wipe down of the exterior and sensors keeps things running OK.
The dirt bin could be larger and the relatively small opening can sometimes get clogged if large items are sucked up or if you have a lot of carpet fluff. Not a deal breaker, but know that for large floors you may need to empty the bin after an hour or so.
Performance:
Vacuum performance is excellent on the default “turbo” mode, while still offering 2 hours or more of run time. “Eco” mode is quieter and reduces suction for a longer run time and a still reasonable clean, although in this mode some larger pieces of paper or waste tend to get pushed around vs. picked up. The unit had no trouble cleaning the approximately 1300 sq ft of our floor plan on a single battery charge. In doing so it easily traversed wood floors, carpets, and rugs without issue. The ability to cover the floor on a single charge is a huge benefit, since recharging during cleaning runs can triple the cleaning time for most units.
Software:
The mobile app and robot firmware are mature and very well executed, with a friendly interface and very quick responses. I did not encounter a single issue on my Android handset with WiFi dropouts, lost mapping data, or app crashes. There was one case where the robot failed to correctly dock at the end of cleaning and rebooted itself before trying again.
The software is feature rich, providing robust scheduling and an outstanding mapping feature that creates a floorplan of your home and allows the user to set “no go” zones by drawing red lines across areas of the map. This is the best and most reliable implementation of this idea that I’ve yet seen in a robot vacuum. The lines are easy to draw and easy to edit. I tested use of these “no go” zones and it worked perfectly. It would be great to be able to define rooms by name and clean just specific parts of the house, but perhaps that can come in a software update later.
Conclusion:
The Neato Botvac D7 continues Neato’s record of producing smart, capable robot vacuums. It’s combination of navigation, cleaning power, great software features, and outstanding battery life make it easy to recommend.

First things first, I absolutely love this botvac and would buy it again. If you're considering the Neato D7, it is the one to buy. However, it is not without its shortcomings.
Let's start with the good. This little botvac cleans really well. The laser mapping and obstacle avoidance are really well done and actually work at night! Admittedly, night time function is somewhat less important for my family because it is used on the same floor as our bedrooms so it runs in the morning as an additional wakeup call. This is one of the things I love about botvacs in general, not just the D7, scheduled cleaning. We have a 120lb long haired sheepdog that sheds and a black cat. Before the D7 my wife and I were using the Dyson V11 for vacuuming. While it does a fantastic job, we did not have the time to vacuum as often as we liked so the rugs would be covered in fur by the end of the following day at best. With the Neato D7 scheduled daily the house stays fur free. There is also the added bonus that the D7 fits and cleans under all our furniture except the couch and one cabinet that go right to the floor. As a result, the amount of dust and dander is significantly reduced, like reduced to unnoticeable. Not only do we now only vacuum the no-go areas, dusting is easily cut to 1/5th of the previous regimen. I would say this is the biggest difference we have noticed as a family and a very welcomed one.
On to the navigation, it is excellent. There is almost no patch left uncleaned. It cleans around the leg of every chair and table and bedframe, even when it gets moved. It even manages to get between each spoke of our rolling office chairs. It's quite something to watch it bump and twist itself into every possible nook and cranny.
Then there is the app, it is super handy. Once you've mapped the cleaning area (which you can map more than one and move it from floor to floor if you want) you can select the areas for each room on the map and tell the D7 to go clean a specific room. You can also add no-go lines (as many as needed) so it won't fall down the stairs or run over cords. While it is true that simply pushing the physical start button on the vacuum won't take advantage of these features, why would you? I have never found myself in a situation where I wouldn't rather just use the app. Also, the scheduled cleaning, because it is scheduled from the app, will take advantage of the no-go lines. I saw a previous review that said individual rooms couldn't be targeted for cleaning from the app and wanted to say that isn't true. Either that feature wasn't implemented yet or the reviewer hadn't figured out that functionality (which isn't difficult).
Now for my complaints, of which there are two (and a half). First, THERE IS NO FULL SENSOR OR WARNING! This is the biggest problem that I hope will be fixed in a future generation. In our house we have hardwood floors and use a few area rugs. Because this botvac does such a good job, every time it goes over a rug I need to pause the routine and empty it or else it keeps going without having any space in its collection chamber and won't actually suction anything up. Yes, it still gathers hair in its brush until that gets clogged and it finally send you a notification that something is wrong, but why not just notify me that it's full? Indeed an 9x11 wool rug is enough to fill it so I wouldn't really reccomend this for carpeted homes. Perhaps they don't want to annoy you with a notification every 20 minutes that it is full? My second complaint is related. Since it gets full so quickly, why not design it with a charging station that can also empty it, like what one of the competitors did. I would happily pay a decent amount more for this feature. The upstairs space that we have Neato cleaning is only 1500 sqft, 1497 sqft to be exact per the cleaning report I get everyday. Of that, about 420 sqft have have wool area rugs. I need to empty the Neato about 3 times, and it's 90% rug fiber each time. If it were just hardwood or tile I would bet that it could clean the whole space. If it could sense when it was full and at least notify me instead of me guessing that would be hugely helpful. Even better would be if it could just go back to its station and empty itself and then notify me when the station was full. It already goes back to the station to charge at least once during the cleaning cycle. My half complaint is the noise, it is a vacuum so that is expected but it takes about 2 hours to clean the space I described. I work from my home office and have to pause it whenever I need to take a call. That being said, it is only half a complaint because I would not want to sacrifice its cleaning performance for noise reduction. Indeed we run it on turbo clean, but eco is not much quieter. This is also why it doesn't run at night because it would for sure wake us up, like I said it's our additional alarm. One more thing now that I think of it, I wish it could get over door threshold just a little better. It doesn't clean our master bath because the marble threshold has a lip that is maybe 3/8ths of an inch tall.
Overall my family and I are very happy with our Neato. It cleans well, and has several extra benefits I didn't think of before I had it. Mainly, it keeps the dust down but also, our boys keep their rooms clean (at least the floor) so Neato can vacuum their rooms. If they don't they are responsible for that chore. Bottom line, given the botvacs available today I would buy the D7 everytime (though the self emptying competitor is probably a close second, enough that on a different day I may change my mind). If Neato comes out with this feature I would want to be first in line to try it. Having to guess when it's full and remember to interrupt it and empty it is a pain, not to mention not possible when I'm not home. Oh, also the instructions recommended have 3ft to either side of the charging station so it could easily find it, we only have maybe 1ft on either side and there has never been a problem.
In the photos you can see where we have the charging station, the collection container after ~100 sqft of rug cleaning that it cleans everyday and then the underside withered the brush gaurd removed so you can see how the suction port in the middle jams itself with rug fiber/fur, but mostly the beige wool rug fiber.

Initial Skepticism Replaced By Appreciation & Love

Initially I was skeptical of a robotic vacuum. As a caveat I realize Vacuuming is a mundane chore, that is irrefutable but is it bad enough to warrant spending $600 plus tax to transfer that chore to a robotic vacuum? After a month of owning my Neato D7 I would say 100% YES!!! So much so that I’m doing my first ever Best Buy review because I want everyone to know how great this product is.
Registration and downloading the application itself was a breeze. The process of pairing my device was a challenge. Admittedly I grew frustrated and momentarily regretted my purchase while trying to “connect” the vacuum to my WiFi. After speaking with a lovely individual on their support team after hours who diagnosed the problem and provided a solution we were in business.
Helpful Hint: should your WiFi network contain special characters the Neato D7 will not be able to complete the registration so be sure to rename before attempting to pair your device.
The mapping process was fun to watch, surprisingly this device is able to navigate in and out of precarious areas (raised rugs, beneath the oven and tight corners) that I would of thought impossible. I was worried that it would scuff the walls while doing its diagnostic clean... however this worry was a non-issue. The D shaped design is clearly effective and my little robot navigates with ease. Lastly and most importantly when the mapping was complete I was surprised how much dirt, fiber, and dust this device actually picked up. After the first clean, I was able to name zones on my app, schedule an overnight cleanup of the kitchen after some messy but fun baking and to create our first no go area (where we have a bunch of electronic cables under a desk). I was also pleasantly surprised to see how quickly the robotic vacuum cleaned after the initial diagnostic clean. It clearly utilizes the laser technology and then takes the most efficient route to cover the desired area. The D7 acts like a regular vacuum, is quieter than the canister vacuum that we had and I look forward to transferring the boring and time consuming chore of vacuuming to the Neato D7 for years to come.

Like with any robot vac do not expect it to be as good as a standard vacuum. It does clean up all that is in its path, unless you are controlling it yourself (which is cool), but sort of defeats the purpose, it will go only where it can. However, once it learns the environment it doesn't just go all over, it will go in rows like mowing the grass. While this one will get in more corners with its square edges than I anticipated, it is not as versatile as a standard vacuum, but again I did not expect it to replace normal cleaning, just help in the day to day. We recently removed carpet and knew going to hard flooring the pet hair, and my three ladies’ hair, would be pretty hard to keep up.
The vac will cover about 1000sqft of laminate wood and luxury vinyl plank in the kitchen for my purposes and will have battery to spare. I was pleasantly surprised that the vac could make it over a the transition strip that is about a 5/8” drop off, no angle. The vac can make it back over it, but it takes it a couple of tries to get the proper angle and movements. On standard angled transitions it has no problems.
PROS
-long battery life/floor coverage
-virtual no go zones (don’t have to worry with magnetic strips!)
-Scheduled operation
-mountain climbing abilities (5/8” that is)
-App has battery level, time till fully charged, and creates a floor plan of where it has been, also has approximate square footage cleaned.
-replacement parts are not as expensive as I would have thought given the starting cost
-MANUAL MODE! (There is lag, like playing Super Mario Bros. and when you stop running you slide a bit, same concept, it keeps momentum)
CONS
-Turbo and Eco mode has no difference that I can tell. Says ECO mode is quieter, but I couldn’t tell. However, I will keep it in Eco mode in the event it really does better with the battery.
-gets hung up on lamp cords
-while it can go under furniture, at the wrong angle it can hit the power button, putting it in pause mode. The app will alert you (pros), but if it hits the button long enough it will turn it off and then it will start the cleaning process all over. My ottoman it did not like, its sits just a bit lower than the couches (which it cannot go under fully, the Neato badge on top keeps it from doing).
-Manual Mode doesn’t have an auto-dock feature
Overall its pretty cool. Comparing to other robot vacs on the bottom end of the price comparison, they are slimmer so can fit into more spots, but don’t have no where near the feature set.
I would recommend it for sure. Not a cheap purchase, but if your tired of dust mopping twice a day, it is a great time saver. Again, it won’t replace a good cleaning, but it definitely helps keep up in between.

I just started the first clean on this unit. Being our first smart robo vac, I couldn't believe how smart this really was. It cleaned around things with ease. It went around every corner, under the couch, and under our dinning room table. I seriously am amazed that it knows how to get around chair legs with minimal bumping around. In quiet mode, it really is a a bearable motor hum. The mobile app is easy to use when first connecting the vac and to start it, it's just a simple button press. I can't wait to see how it stands up in the long run. I plan on just keeping schedules for once a week. With this schedule, maintenance should be minimal.

The Neato D7 is the flagship of bot-vacuums in my opinion. The setup was easy, having the features it has makes it a dream to own. It works great with Alexa or by the app itself, which also works with your smart watch (Apple or Android). The packaging was good and it came with 2 extra filters. The job it did cleaning was very good, I kept it on Eco mode vice Turbo and it did 75% of my downstairs on it’s full charge, that’s about 1100 SqFt. Mostly hardwood flooring with some area rugs and runners but it did a great job. With 3 dogs, 1 cat and mini pig the Neato picked up everything it came across. Emptying the bin is super easy and it lets you know when it’s needed via the app. It did a great job learning its way around the house and avoiding obstacles as it ran its first cleanup. You definitely want to take a look at your set up in your house and try to make it as practical as possible for the little bot, but it is pretty smart regardless. I definitely recommend this product!

Appropriately named, this is the "neatest" appliance I've ever owned. It keeps the floors clean with a deep clean or can be set on ECO for quieter, longer run periods. It is engineered to be much easier on the furnishings than any other robotic sweeper that I’ve ever witnessed. Not only does it deep clean the floors, it also takes care of small debris brought into the house with everyday traffic and two Westies. The Robotic Sweeper creates an outline of your floorplan, it can clean the whole area, spot clean or be remotely controlled with your mobile device. To maximize its capabilities, clear the entire floor area to be swept and remotely control the robot around the perimeter; then let Neato do it work by eventually finding and cleaning the entire floorplan. Once know, Neato can be controlled to start and stop via phone, Alexa Echo, etc.and it will remember the floor area and clean it! When and if it encounters a problem with rug fringe, etc. it will notify you on the app that its having an issue so that you can assist and then get back to work on something else. Start, stop, pause or remotely control the cleaning of your floor areas. I absolutely LOVE this sweeper!!!!

This was our first foray into the world of robotic vacuums, and it has been a great experience so far. While we haven't completely abandoned our first generation Dyson DC07, it is good to let that hand vac rest its old bones while the Botvac takes on more of the day-to-day chores.
Out of the box, the Botvac was extremely easy to set up, and my wife took a special pleasure in naming her new ward Auntie Pattie when she downloaded and installed the app, which was equally simple and user friendly. From first appearances, I loved the 'D' shaped design, it stood out from the standard round build on competitor units, and that seems to give this unit an edge in being able to get tighter to baseboards and flat surfaces. This shape allows for a long rotating head up front similar to what you would find in a hand held vac, with a smaller round rotating brush that works to kick up anything stuck in the corners, which is a great design. Really like the brush metal plating on top, as well as the plastic bumper that allows it to gently figure out what it is navigating while not getting nicked up, or nicking any furniture up. The top plate comes right up to uncover the dustbin, which could definitely stand to be a bit bigger. LED indicators on top show cleaning mode, battery/power & WiFi connectivity, all good info to see, but the app is where this unit shines.
After initially letting the unit charge overnight, we cut it loose to sort out the main level of our house, which is about 1000 s.f. Watching via the app how it 'learns' the house was pretty amazing, as it maps out its travels and you can instantly see where the 'voids' are in its cleaning path on a graphic representation of the floor plan it creates while cleaning. While the app allows us to create boundary lines (a great feature), it sensed our stairs to the lower level and didn't progress on a death plunge to the basement, it just went along to clean the rest of the upper level and ignored the drop. This unit can struggle a bit with chairs and cords, as all robotic vacs will, but it 'programmed' us to have better cord management, and to pull out chairs when we were leaving the house, a very small price to pay in time and effort which allowed for easy remote cleanings. It gets under furniture it can clear without pause, and we have yet to see it get really stuck. If you take the time to learn where it sees a challenge, you can make minor adjustments that will allow it to flourish.
In Eco-mode for a daily clean, the Botvac works really well with crumbs and dirt, as well as dog hair (we have a long-haired beast that sheds a full version of itself every week) without struggle, and on a battery charge of roughly 1 hr 45 mins. It did ignore some larger scraps of paper, but on the whole it tackled an area with multiple floor materials (carpet, hardwoods, area rugs and tile in the bathroom) with gusto and with equally clean results. In turbo mode (great for spot cleaning for individual rooms/spaces before guests/mother-in-laws arrive) it churned out a great cleaning on about a 30 minute battery charge before needing to dock. The only challenge we've seen is that this unit can use a low-power internal alarm that forces it back to the base in time. Ours fought the good fight like a soldier, and died in the field twice without getting home. Seems like a simple routine that could be written into the code to allow it to get back to a charge and live to fight another day. As noise levels go, it is pleasantly low on Eco, and expectedly louder in Turbo, no great shakes either way to us as we expect some noise when cleaning. Maintenance is fairly simple with brushes that are easy to access and comb out, an easily accessed air filter and the aforementioned top-access dustbin. Simple, as life should be with a robotic maid.
Many pros with this unit that we will be enjoying for the foreseeable future, vacuuming on the whole isn't something anyone really looks forward to, and Auntie Pattie delivers a deserved break from that action for me and my wife. The dustbin could be larger, but I suspect Neato knows that and provided that largest the unit could accommodate, not sure what sacrifice in design would need to be made to make it significantly bigger, but I suspect the product engineers do and made it as large as they could. I can't really ding them for that because, well, they made it so I'm not vacuuming anymore. The app control is next level stuff, being able to vacuum while at work with the touch of a button does actually make me smile, and the mapping and learning component is something you just aren't going to find in many other units.
Last but not least, our dog has had a long standing adversarial nemesis in the hand-held vacuum, which he runs from as if the devil itself was in pursuit. The Botvac earned a few curious glances, but pup walks around it with ease, and most importantly, without fear. Two paws up.

Ok. So this little neato robot vacuum friend of mine is awesome. I didn’t know what to expect. Small part of me was kinda skeptical. But let me tell you. This little guy( to me ) does a very good job. At 1st he was a bit all over the place. Like he didn’t know where to go. I at 1st thought it would be like that. But after running it a few times in the same day. It was learned ng and scanning my apartment. It worked great. Since it has lasers, I would say that makes it better than the other brands. It didn’t bump into things a lot. It tried to get under my coaches. And if it could not fit then it would try for about 15-30 seconds. Then it would back up and move on to the next or rest of area. I used it on both turbo and eco. Both seemed to pick up a lot of junk. We have one 6 year old cat. She sheds for sure. And both modes picked up more hair than our old upright. Although turbo mode was going to do better. But you sacrifice a little bit of run time. Not a big deal. As we have a 1100 sq foot apartment. The app to control and run programs or set settings is actually really good(IPhone). It’s simple to use yet u can control everything thru it’s wifi connection. I love that feature. The build quality seems top notch as well. Charging base is great as well. And seeing how the d7 finds it and automatically connects to it is amazing. Tech guy here too. It may cost some money. But you really get what you pay for. This little thing has powerful suction. And come on now. We are all very busy people. So allowing this neato d7 to do this one job for us. Frees up time for us to do other more important things. It’s more a peace of mind. The only issue I saw for me at least. Is that I had a part of a crib under our bed and it would go over it and I had to help. But that’s my fault as I did not set the no go lines at first nor did I use the included strips to tell the neato d7 not to go under my bed. That’s on me. But yes. You will love this little machine. It will pick up everything. And if you ha e a larger house. It may take an extra charge. But it’s well worth it. I love it. You should as well. Take a chance and find out! Good luck! And I hope this helps.

The Neato D7 Botvac is truly remarkable.
The design is a sleek, modern look with the sharp glow of the readouts complimenting it. This vacuum is nice to look at and blends into its charging corner.
Setting up the D7 is simple as is using the companion app (which is optional but I HIGHLY recommend you use the app). In all honesty, I had reserved expectations as to how well the floor scanning feature would actually work. The D7 has shown me that I shouldn’t underestimate such features as it did a truly amazing job scanning and laying out the floorplan which you can view through the app. Through the Neato app, I am able to create No-Go areas with the swipe of my finger. When I ran the D7 again, it recognized the changes to its patrol and avoided the new No-Go areas. Easy. However, if you don’t want to use the app to create off-limit areas, the D7 does come with a physical border tape that the vacuum will sense and avoid.
Let me talk about the cleaning. The D7 has a high suction while not having a high power pitch that usually comes from other robot vacs. You can have a normal conversation or can continue to watch TV while the D7 is running in the room. The D7 also proved it’s worth when it vacuumed pieces of cardboard that fell away from a scratching post that my cats use. The machine double backed and picked up a couple of pieces that escaped ‘capture’. The final feature that was impressive was the debris canister. The D7 devoured nearly double the waste of my previous robot vacuum!
The Neato D7 can also be used with Google Home/Assistant making for a quick startup if you don’t have your smart device handy.
I think people are really going to favor the D7 as the go-to robot vacuum.
