A worthy successor to the D850

I've been shooting with the Nikon D850 for several years, and I finally upgraded to the Z8 a few days ago. As a wildlife photographer, 20 frames per second, silent shooting, a blackout-free viewfinder, and pre-capture were all important to me. Most of all, the subject detection/tracking makes a world of difference when photographing birds in flight. I have quite the collection of F-mount lenses which I have no desire to replace, so I picked up the FTZ adapter as well. It works perfectly! In fact, some of them work even better thanks to this camera's in-body image stabilization and the improved autofocus technology. So far, the only downsides are minor: 1) the electronic viewfinder doesn't feel as "real" as my DSLR's optical viewfinder. 2) battery life is a fraction of my D850's. 3) after about 30 seconds, the camera goes to sleep to save battery. Unlike my DSLR, the z8 takes a second to wake up when you're ready to take a picture. This isn't ideal in certain wildlife settings when you need to react quickly. Overall, though, the pros far outweigh the cons and I highly recommend this camera. Image quality and resolution aren't any better than my D850, but the improved technology -- especially subject detection -- is a real gamechanger for wildlife photography.

This is hands down the best camera I’ve used in the 40 years I’ve been shooting photos. It is sturdy and the ergonomics are near perfect. All the main controls are easily accessible with one hand. The autofocus is fast and accurate with all my lenses and the frame rate is incredible.

A Game-Changer in Mirrorless Photography – The Nik

! I recently purchased the Nikon Z8, and I can confidently say it’s one of the most powerful and versatile cameras I’ve ever used. Nikon has really outdone itself with this one—it’s like having the flagship Z9 in a more compact, manageable body without sacrificing performance. The image quality is stunning. The 45.7MP sensor captures incredibly detailed shots with beautiful dynamic range and color accuracy. Low-light performance is exceptional, and the autofocus system is lightning-fast and incredibly smart—face, eye, and even animal detection works flawlessly. What truly impressed me is how well it handles both photography and video. For video shooters, the 8K and 4K options with Nikon’s advanced color science make it a serious contender for hybrid creators. And the build quality is rock solid—rugged, weather-sealed, and ergonomically designed for long shoots. I also appreciate the dual card slots, the high-res EVF, and the intuitive menu system. It just feels right in the hands, and it’s clear Nikon listened to its users when designing the Z8. If you’re serious about photography or content creation, the Z8 is absolutely worth the investment. It’s a professional-grade tool in a body that doesn’t weigh you down. Highly recommended—5 stars!

I absolutely love this camera! As a former user of the Nikon D850 the transition to using this camera was pretty easy! I love everything about the quality of images and the smaller file sizes the the mirrorless camera. Don’t hesitate on this camera! I have been using Nikon DSLR cameras for 15 years and they just keep getting better!

Thanks best buy for good deal. This is my first full frame camera as i came from Nikon D5300 so not much learning curve. Amazing features, i suggest everyone to configure banks as per use. I already setup those for my frequently used genres e.g. Landscapes, Birding and Astro After that configure custom controls which will come handy when you capture memories. Goto lenses with this camera are Z 24-120 f4 for mostly indoor use and Z 180-600 for wildlife. Used it with FTZ-ii converter for my AF-S 200-500mm lens and image quality is amazing as well. Refer attached pictures. One more feature is capturing 4k as well as 8k videos. Till now no issues observed when I used it with Nextorage 512 GB cfexpreas type B card. Suggest to use card with more than 1500/s write speed. Low light images and videos also incredible. Overall recommended.

The camera is absolutely amazing. So many customizable options it’s almost overwhelming. But once you learn the camera and what you like it’s extremely functional. The 20fps in raw with silent shutter has been absolutely amazing. Focusing is extremely quick with my lenses. Battery life has been great. Only complaint is that it only comes with 1 battery. However 2 batteries has lasted me a full day with constant shooting.

Love it. Primary use concerts. Feels very well made as Nikon should, good size and weight for a pro camera. Useful features at yourfinger tips. 45 MP, 20 frames a second, helps you create great images even with cropped. Very fast auto focus, even in low light, with Z lenses. Images are sharp even with less expensive NIKKOR lenses. I still love my D850, but the Z8 is now my go to camera.

The image quality is nothing short of exceptional. The 45.7 MP full-frame sensor captures stunning detail, even in low light, thanks to its impressive ISO range and dynamic range. Whether I'm shooting landscapes, portraits, or fast-moving subjects, the Z 8 delivers sharp, vibrant images with incredible clarity. The autofocus system is lightning-fast and precise, making even the most challenging shots a breeze to capture.

I had a Nikon D5100 years ago and was due for an upgrade. The z8 fit everything I wanted to do, low light, video and still, and high resolution raw formats at 8k. The body is much larger than my first camera but I like it. I like the auto sensor shield for added protection when you turn it off. I got it with a 35mm f1.8 S lens and a 24-200 z lens.

I had a D850 (considered by many as one of the best cameras ever) My Z8 offers the same, plus several improvements. A lot better focusing, video and fast shooting are among the most important improvements. I highly recommend this camera is you are serious about taking pictures or videis.

This was purchased as a semi professional and hobbyist. Amazing auto focus and eye tracking with update 2.0. I combined this and the Z85 1.8 lens for a fantastic portrait combination. Superior to almost any combination I've owned before now.
