Bring your VR experience anywhere!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really, I can't stress how great this is. I have several VR devices going back to the late 80's, as well as PSVR, Okulus DK1, LG 360VR, HP Mixed Reality. They're all pretty good, but require a lot of tedious setup, a high-end PC and heavy cables. The Oculus Go is just simple and beautiful! Put it on and Go! Image quality is pretty great - better resolution than the PSVR. The device contains pretty good built-in speakers but you can plug in your own headphones for better sound. 2.5 hours on a charge is great, but can plug in a USB cable and charge it while in use as well. The Go is not going to compete with a high-end gaming rig but it's Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor is actually a fairly beefy smartphone system-on-chip, and can definitely push decent 3D visuals out to the effectively 2560x1440 (1280x1440 per eye) display. Importantly, it handles decoding 4k H.265 video easily in harrdware which is going to be important for streaming 360 VR on slower internet connections. The Go is a GREAT movie watching device, which comes with an app that streams movies from a local UPNP/DLNA server, and at least 2 more in the Oculus store. I'm excited about the ability to bring my portable 3TB wifi drive and stream HD/4k/360VR movie when I travel. The Oculus store currently has a lot of 3rd-rate junk, but there are a few good games like the gorgeous Lands End and Virtual Virtual Reality (like Stanley Parable in VR with regretable voice acting). Hopefully Trinus VR ports their streaming app to the Go which would allow the Go to act as a decent PC VR device. Social aspects of the Go are really interresting via Oculus Rooms and Bigscreen. You can invite several people to share in movie watching (with voice chat) or share pictures from your phone (using the Oculus smartphone app). Unfortunately, the Go does not do head tracking (yet?) so you can't stand up and walk around, lean or look under things like you can with others like the PSVR. Technically that could be added with a camera accessory but it's not a big deal. I may be biased as a longtime fan of VR but I really do recommend this product. I've had mine for several days now and bring it with me everywhere. I can pull it out anytime and watch a movie inside my own little movie space and really can tune out the world for a few hours.

Best VR so far
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have the PS4 vr, the Samsung, but this one is my favorite so far. Better field of view, very light and comfortable. Great sound even without headphones. User interface and controller is fluid, and intuitive. Setup was a breeze. So much content, lots of great free apps too. Only downside is no sd card slot for memory upgrade, so 64gb version is recommended. The ability to take this anywhere without tying up your phone is awesome. Had lots of fun on a 3hr flight and coupled with noise cancelling headphones, I forgot I was on an airplane and the flight was over before I knew it. Don't be fooled by the fair price, this thing is amazing!

Best overall Standalone VR device
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Go is great for people trying VR for the first time. Extremely easy to setup and use. It's fairly comfortable and you have built-in speakers in the straps, or you can use your own headphones if you desire. There's a microphone also built in so you can communicate with other people or browse the Oculus store by voice i.e. Open Netflix. There's a little bit for everyone some of the best IMHO Games: Virtual Virtual Reality, Coaster Combat, Dead or Alive, Daedalus Along Together 360 experience you don't want to miss: Blue, 360 Explorers, Next VR content, some NY times pieces Media - Netflix, Oculus Venues, Hulu, Oculus Browser for mainly Youtube Social - Oculus Venues, Oculus rooms, AltspaceVR A lot more. Some of the titles are free, but the majority of the apps run from 1.99 to 9.99. The only real downside that I noticed is the battery life. Since you may use it a lot, the battery life is about 2 to 2 1/2 hours depending on what you are using. The charging is done with a micro USB port. If you are a heavy user, you may want to purchase a 30 to 40 dollar portable battery pack. Btw ..I had several people try it, and no one mentioned motion sickness or feeling queasy. One person did take the headset off quickly after playing "coaster combat" because he's afraid of roller coasters.

Excellent starter set for VR
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I want to start by saying I've tried pretty much all the main consumer VR headsets. I currently own a Gear VR, Google Daydream and PlayStation VR system, and have tried the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. This headset impressed me the most, mainly due to its portability and ease of use. It's basically a Gear VR but without the need of the phone. The screen resolution is excellent and the field of view is better than most. Battery life is average at around 2 hours. The headset is very comfortable and the only one I can keep on for a long period of time. $199 is a steal, especially is you've been holding off on getting into VR.

Game changer!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me begin by addressing the fact that units like this, the Mirage Solo, Focus and Neo, all are the beginning of what's to come for mobile VR. It is entry level but quality. I've seen a few reviews downing the Go for not being better than the Gear VR. It's not meant to be better than Gear, it's on par with it...but in a way that is far more important than comparing their performance. It's an affordable platform to bring VR content to the masses. If you have a compatible $700+ Samsung phone, pay $100 for the Gear, get hooked and by the next gen of mobile VR coming that will leave the Gear behind. I'm getting into VR development but don't really have the start-up to afford the PC connected based systems...but I really don't want to. I've been telling my colleagues that mobile is where it's at but they’ve have a hard time seeing it as something viable because they think about the standard cellphone experience with a $20 headset, not impressive. I showed the Go to my buddy who's leading our start-up and he was blown away that it wasn't bad like the cellphone experience. He's got the Vive, Vive Pro and a Microsoft based headset = $$$$s. All he could really say was I'm right, mobile is the way of the future for VR, especially when you consider the wave of inside-out tracking headsets coming. There are some drawbacks of the Go regarding 6dof and inside-out tracking, but really that is a feature set for their next model, currently named Santa Cruz. However, this unit fills the need of a low cost, quality device that brings VR to those who would never pay the cost of units with more features. It's closest competitor is twice the price and has been shown to be lacking in content that can even take advantage of the additional features. If your interested in VR, don't want to spend $1000 for a comparable phone setup or $$$$s for a PC setup, the Go is the way to go. $200 is nothing when you consider the history of technology prices, like the 5MB hard drive in my first PC that cost the equivalent of $5000 in today's dollar value. You're going to enjoy the experience and the whole purpose of this device is to drive VR ownership and thus content availability.

Go is a keeper, #1 for accesibility
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been wanting to try the Oculus go for a while now, but couldn't find any store with a demo unit. I have an S7 gear vr, so I want sure if a $200 investment in a similar vr experience was worth it. I decided to take the plunge and gave it a shot. Overall I think it's a keeper. I would also suggest, get the 64GB version. 32 isn't really enough to hold alot of games and movies especially, and there is no expanding with SD card. I stream movies from my computer, but I kind of regret not getting the 64. Also, get an app called Wander. It convinced me to buy this headset. I have a high-end PC and video card, but I wanted a headset that I could take around with me, and not be tethred to the PC. Vs. the Gear VR: The picture quality and resolution are nearly identical. The gear has a very slight advantage due to having a focus wheel. However I can barely notice a difference in sharpness. Also, the samsung phone has an oled screen vs an LCD on the go. This does make for deeper colors on the gear. However the go is superior in just about every other way. It cant be overstated how much easier it is to just put the thing on and go. With my gear, I had a 4-5 minute routine I had to go through to get the best performance. Clean off both sets of lenses, clean off phone screen, turn off cell data, turn on do not disturb, kill all background tasks, get a fan setup etc etc. It really became such a chore that it deterred me from using the thing as much. Even after all this, the performance was hit and miss, sometimes lagging and freezing up. The oculus go is super smooth. It's a device that is soley dedicated to vr, unlike the gear where you have all your other apps competing for processor and memory. When I first got the go I was a little underwhelmed because the resolution and field of view are almost identical to the gear. Turns out all the other advantages make this a much improved experience. Gear vr Advantages Cheaper if you have a samsung phone Better colors Focus wheel Bluetooth headphones Longer battery Able to expand storage Cons Gets very hot Lag, glitches, frezzing Go Advantages Accessible, put it on and go Controller system is better Always Smooth performance Less areas to clean Stereo Speakers Cons Battery life No memory card slot UPDATE After owning my Go for a week, I found an Refurb Samsung S7 phone for $100. I thought I could buy the S7, use it as a dedicated VR device with my existing Gear VR, save $100, have a backup phone if ever needed and get the OLED screen benefits in VR. Plus, it would be dedicated to VR so no other apps competing for processor/memory. When my S7 came I spent an hour doing a direct comparison between the two (Go & GearVR). I watched hi-res videos in Amaze, youtube, and used Wander, plus the general GUI. It's true that the colors and blacks look better on the Gear, but that's where it ends. The Go is just simply a better VR experience. The Gear is still not as smooth as the Go, even with nothing on the phone but VR apps. The Go's screen and text look sharper, even though the gear has a focus wheel and the Go doesn't. Plus, there is another factor I can't exactly put my finger on, I'm not sure if it's an FoV difference, or refresh rate, but the go is just more immersive. Feels less like I'm looking through goggles, but actually there in the video or game. That plus the ease of use, just plug in and Go! At first I felt like I was looking for a reason to return this thing, but no more, The go wins.

Amazing portable vr
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am actually stunned with this product and as a bonus any former Samsung gear vr owner like me can restore all there old purchases. So far does not seem to overheat like gear vr with great battery life of about 2 to 3 hours depending on app. There is so much free content on store from Star Wars Disney Jurassic Park and free apps like discovery vr and dark corner vr that you get way more content than any current console. The controller is great for controlling games and as a floating mouse for the built in web. Also all my vr photos and videos I have created with my lg 360 work flawlessly as does my content from Facebook. An incredible device that is great without all the wires that my htc Vive and ps vr have. I highly recommend and can’t wait to use on a plane and show my family when I visit next. Steal at 199 with all the free content available.

No Wires, No Computer Needed, All-in-One
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is absolutely amazing. If you are going to download movies, I would get the 64 GB one for $50 extra. If you're not going to download movies, then the 32 GB one is fine. After you get one, make sure you get Wander as your first purchase (think it's like $4) in the online/in-headset store. You can travel the world with this app. A lot of the really great apps are free.

Have realistic expectations
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this mainly to develop content, & I've followed VR closely for many years, so I was fairly aware of what to expect. Did not purchase this for entertainment purposes. That said, I did experience a couple of brief "wow" moments where my spatial awareness was unexpectedly lost to VR. So...expectations. The picture is going to be pretty fuzzy. The fresnel lenses are likely to "smudge" parts of your vision. Color reproduction is not amazing. Generally the unit is going to be slightly less comfortable than a snorkeling mask. However, IT'S PRETTY COMFORTABLE, all things considered. And if you allow yourself to acclimate to the "quality level" things can get pretty interesting. CGI looks a whole heck of a lot better than captured footage so far, in my experience. But honestly, nothing about this unit is awful. Oculus is releasing something similar and perhaps quite a lot better in just a few months. I'd definitely wait for that next evolution if it's going to be an either or choice.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have you...heard of the Oculus Go? Have you actually looked into a Oculus Go headset?? If the answer is "no", well then, you are living in the Stone Age! How big is The Oculus Go-or Virtual Reality headsets going to be?? Bigger than the laptop! Bigger than the smartphone!! Bigger than any electronic device EVER!!! Okay, VR, is still in it's infancy. Think early black and white tv's. But. This $140.00 headset will show you videos your 4k, HDR, $2,500.00+ Magnolia TV can not even come close to! Not. Even. Close. Just how BIG are the VR headsets going to be??? Five years from now, you will not be able to buy a TV. Because they will not be selling them any longer! For, with a few improvements on The Oculus VR headsets? THEY WILL PUT THE TELEVISION INDUSTRY OUT OF BUSINESS! Do you doubt that? Buy an Oculus GO or Oculus Quest-if you can find one, they SOLD OUT NATIONWIDE (which should tell you something)-and see for yourself! Oculus Go orOculus Quest is an absolute MUST purchase. The "next big thing" has indeed arrived!
