If you are buying it to simply record lessons/lectures you might be OK. It does not filter out the background noise. You have to make sure It Is fully charged before using It. The most annoying feature about It Is loud enough.

After several other devices that did not work I was very skeptical about purchasing this one but the rep was very patient in explaining how it worked and the reliability. He assured me if it did not do as promised, I could return it. The true test came less than a week later. The unit worked like a charm and has ever since. Glad I came in to buy it from you guys!

This recorder is easy to use and quick to get started. Buttons are clearly labelled. There are 5 folders for storing recordings. The sound quality is very good, even if I am sitting 20 or more feet away from the speaker. It's even better once downloaded to my computer, which is very easy, as there's a built-in USB cable device that pops out to attach to my computer. This is a lifesaver for me, as I have difficulty taking notes, so recording allows me to fully concentrate in class and then go back to the recording if I need to. I had the previous Olympus model of this recorder and it was great, but this one is even better as it has rechargeable lithium batteries (or you can use regular AAA batteries), it's a bit smaller, and it comes with a case.

I needed a voice recorder for work that was easy to use and that I could lend to co-workers to record interviews for me to transcribe. I wanted something within my price range that was easy to use, used regular batteries (because no one remembers to charge things) and had a USB plugin to download files. I have to say that this had everything on my list and then some. It comes with rechargable AAA batteries so we can recharge or use regular AAA which is great. The sound quality and mic is good, it cuts down on most background noises. It comes with special software so that you can view recordings on a calendar level. So I can tell who recorded what based on when the recorder was checked out. It even came with a case and a built in USB connection so we don't have to worry about wires when transferring. The USB also charges the rechargeable batteries. All around great buy.

This recorder makes very clear recordings in a variety of situations. You can adjust the sensitivity and noise filtering depending on the recording scenario - everything from large conference rooms to one-on-one interviews. It has present "scenes" or you can manually adjust each parameter. It's easy to download and transfer the audio files to a computer. Unlike some recorders, this one uses rechargeable standard sized AAA batteries rather than a non-removable, special battery. So while recharging provides many hours of recording time, you can easily swap out the batteries with regular AAA batteries if you run out of power in the middle recording. It's very small and compact so very easy to carry.

My wife bought this recorder to capture interviews for her PhD research. She needed something small, light, easy to use and with a simple setup process. Also important was ease of downloading the recordings and saving and sharing them. This recorder ticket every box. No hesitation in recommending it.

I am very satisfied with this Olympus voice recorder. It works well and the sound quality is good even when I recorded things while having it in my pocket. It comes with a little case to keep it in and protect it, which is nice. It comes with Olympus rechargeable batteries which can be recharged simply by plugging it into my laptop, or any other USB recharging device. It records for several hours before needing to be recharged and the device holds many files, which can be transferred to another storage device. It is easy to use and operate.

Before purchasing the Olympus WS-853, I first purchased a comparable Sony model. The Sony has some finer points, but promptly got returned for lack of durability and failure to provide simplified instructions. Now I'll first start by saying that voice recorders in general are rarely easy to operate no matter the brand. However, they do offer certain advantages to using an app on your mobile phone, making them necessary for some individuals (students, business persons, etc.). This Olympus model is very good, and in my opinion, better than the Sony for two simple reasons. The quality of the recording is far more clear, and the instructions are lengthy but straightforward. Battery life is also exceptional. There is one feature that Sony did cover, but Olympus doesn't. That is the ability to begin a recording, and then add on to that same recording at a later time. Though I am not happy about this, I still appreciate a better audio quality more.

This recorder is a little bulky but for the price it does what i need it to do. The sound clarity is far better than the old one i had. Can store both audio or other files if you need to use as a memory stick. Easy to use and very dependable. Batteries seem to last longer as well for hours of recording. Great value, Good Choice.

For a small device this has a lot of gret features and options that make it suitable for education, work or personal use. I am using it for the latter application. First, it is easy to use. It doesn't take a long time to figure it out, and it worked well. The sound came out crisp and clear. I didn't hear a lot of background noise. I love that you can put in the simple mode if you just want basic features in an easy to use format. You can use the normal mode for everything.

As with the Olympus recorders I've previous used, this one is excellent. Long battery life, rechargable, great capacity. Good clarity without the need for external microphone, and easy to use.

I found it was very easy to use right out of the box. The price was reasonable a l though I would like it if the playback was louder. I was not disappointed.

Haven't had much time to speak to the sound quality of the recordings from this device but know enough to say they are at the very least as good as the last Olympus we had and especially in high quality they are very good. It's recording capacity, especially on lower quality, is a real plus! What we liked best about the recorder is how easy it is to set up. This one, unlike our old one, does not have it's own software for downloading the recordings, which we found quickly went out of date and was hard to run on different Windows systems. Instead this new one works very much like a flash drive and you can simply plug it in and use the audio player of your choice to listen to and organize your recordings.

Nice features on this stereo recorder. USB charging while you transfer files to the computer, expandable memory, and full-sized plug for transfer of files are good to have. Sound quality is good. MP3 is a convenient format.

This digital voice recorder offers many options for recording. After a little experimentation, I found the perfect setting(s) that produced crystal clear recordings and am very happy with the results. As a Hypnotherapist, I feel it's important to have a clear voice recording for my clients to listen to at home. My only wish would be to have options for emailing straight from the device like I can do on my iPhone...but it's a fair trade off to get a clear recording without noise.
