Excellent Media Remote for Sony PS4
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I got my PS4 a year ago I bought some no-name media remote that claimed to work with PS4. It was junk and I returned it when it did not perform as advertised. This is a true official Sony device. It works very well. If you watch Netflix, Hulu, Amazon other streaming services on your PS4 this is a great addition to your set up. In my case, it has the added bonus of being a universal remote. I needed a replacement remote for my Yamaha surround sound receiver. I was able to program this Sony remote to control the Yamaha. Unfortunately, I cannot turn the stereo ON. So I had to keep an RCA remote I bought before I saw the Sony. I had to keep it just to turn the stereo ON. Weird, but true. I probably should downgrade the Sony to a 4 star, but I like everything else about it, so I am going with 5 stars here.

Good but...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I typically give 5 of 5 stars for all of my purchases at Best Buy because I would not have made the purchase had I not wanted the item. And most of the time the item is as expected and great. The universal remote is made great (thinner than the PS3 version) and syncs easily/readily with the PS4 but to sync it with my Sony LED, well, not so much in terms of easy. So, get it for PS4 control but you may struggle to sync your TV.

Decent remote for the PS4
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you don't like having to power on the PS4 remote and waste its batteries just to watch Netflix or Hulu, then this is what you need to buy. It performs all of the basic PS4 functions and also allows you to control your TV, AMP, and DVR/Cable box. I set it up to perform all 3 and also programmed the "Soft" keys to do extra features. All of this worked well. The remote is slim which is both a positive and a negative. It feels good in your hand, but the buttons are slightly small and cramped. The biggest negative is that the volume punch-through only works for the TV. I have been scared to enable it because I believe it will preclude the remote from being able to control my AMP. Other reviews have indicated this is the case. Also, one other negative is that it won't turn on my AMP--only turn it off. I'm not sure why this is, but it's a minor annoyance. Overall, it's a decent accessory if you need to treat the PS4 as the media center that it is.

PS4 Remote
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. All around a good remote that works with the PS4, but can be a little tricky to make work. I have to hit the blue PS button to get it to sync to my system and sometimes I still doesn't respond, but when I am watching Blu-Rays once I get it connected, it seems to work OK!, Some features are still not working like the pause, rewind, fastfwd, have to use the normal keys like XOY or Square to get those functions to work.

Avg Remote OK price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the "official" PS4 remote mostly for my kids and visiting family to watch DVD's with. The remote was easy to pair and had no issues with that aspect. The remote does go into sleep mode rather quickly and needs a few button presses to wake up. Overall the price was pretty cheap $25, so can't complain too much about it.

Not as good as I'd hoped, but gets the job done
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I prefer using this remote to using the Dual Shock 4 controller for watching blu-rays, but this remote has a lot of deficiencies that could have been a lot better. It doesn't always work right in every movie/tv app on the PS4. It's pretty good for blu-rays, though, so if you watch a lot of blu-rays on your PS4, I'd recommend this. It doesn't do a lot on my home theater or TV either, even after programming it and using the special programming buttons to duplicate functions of the official remotes. So it's pretty much just good for controlling blu-rays. Even at that it isn't as good as the PS3 remote was. For some reason this one seems to have kind of a lag or delay between pressing the buttons and seeing the result on screen. It's not too bad, though. It really depends on your needs. If you watch a TON of blu-rays like I do, then it's worth buying. Otherwise, it's not.

Excellent accessory
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm so glad they finally released a remote control for the PS4. I use mine to watch movies a lot and it makes it so much easier to navigate them than the controller. Easy to set up, well worth the price

More convenient than controller but not perfect
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This works pretty well and was easy (very easy) to connect my tv and sound bar. The power save mode does trip me up but it is a 2 second inconvenience. My only complaint is that the features of the controller are limited in using my menu options for the tv itself, so I still have to break out the other one of I want to adjust screen mode, etc.

Almost Perfect
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I had the blu-ray controller for the PS4, then when getting a PS4 Pro and passing-along my PS4, I got this controller for myself -- selfish. I have a Sony TV, which has had some pretty great HDMI and controller/remote synergy with the PS4 (same for PS4 Pro), so I thought this would be easier to connect. Granted, my TV is from 2010, but it's 50" and I got it OpenBox with money I made from selling the IP for an Image Processing Algorithm instead of going on a trip to NYC with my girlfriend at the time (retroactively realizing that she probably didn't actually want me to go with her), so I'm pretty sure this TV has been the deciding factor in the past (great? terrible? you decide!) 9 years of my life. So let's not blame the TV. The TV is clearly a magical signpost on the journey of my life. Instead we blame the remote. It's an awesome remote, it has more buttons and more features than the one I had before, but here are my major gripes: - The remote falls asleep when connected to the PS4, so you have to with the big PS button to wake-it-up before entering new commands. - The share and options buttons were added, and more of the full PS4 controller buttons ... but no shoulder buttons. Obviously it's not meant to be a full controller, but this definitively screws-up using this remote conveniently with Amazon Prime Video and other apps. - There's dedicated buttons to switch the mode of the remote between the different "universal remote"-registered A/V devices. Insanely, this means that you have to press the TV button to switch to the TV to change the volume, then press the PS4 (top) button to switch back to controlling the PS4. - There actually is a documented (in the manual) button sequence that will turn-on "Volume Passthrough", which will let the channel and volume buttons go to the AV device(s) while in PS4 mode ... but the remote "forgets" that you enabled this after some seemingly arbitrary amount of time that's basically equivalent to a day. I haven't timed it yet, but here's like how I use the TV and Remote: I get home, I turn on the PS4 with the remote by pressing the PS Button, which uses the HDMI connection to turn on the "sleeping" TV (yay!), and then I navigate to Hulu and put on something I've seen while I setup / cook my vegan dinner, but oh no, the convection toaster oven fan is on and I can't hear the TV as well so I go to turn-up the volume, but nope! buttons don't work, oh yeah I'm in PS4 mode, I do the special TV+LAST command and got the blink and now I've got passthrough, yay, so I adjust the volume, I go to eat dinner but now I wanna watch something new so I switch to Netflix or whatever, but the movie I wanna watch is too quiet so I adjust the volume and yay passthrough is working, but then after dinner I switch back to something I've seen so I can do other stuff and not pay attention, but now it's too loud so I turn it down and yay passthrough is working, and then I turn off the PS4 to go to bed, but that doesn't turn the TV off, so I press the TV power button and go to bed, and then what do you wanna do tonight brain? same thing we do every night pinky! lather, rinse, repeat (forever). I just realized while writing that out for the first time that maybe pressing the TV Power Button (not the TV A/V switch button) is disabling the volume passthrough ... if that's true, the firmware engineering director/manager for this remote should be fired. If it loses the passthrough state whenever it falls asleep, they should be fired and banned from Linked-In but still forced to get all the emails. Anyways, it's literally a great remote, and I'm not spending 200 bucks on one of those friggin' logitech things, so until that PS5 arrives, this is my life. Such a horrible life. Good remote, though. I guess. You decide!

Worked great until it didn't
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unlike a lot of people I had read reviews from, I was able to get the remote up and running with all of my devices rather easily. That is until it stopped working with the playstation. I could've dealt with it not working with the TV or cable box anymore, but the playstation is the main reason to have this remote. Luckily, I was able to contact the company and they are currently in the process of shipping me a replacement. Hopefully my first was just a dud and I will have no problems with the replacement. Assuming I don't and I can get the new one up and running as before, I will still be pleased with this purchase.

Great Remote

Great remote!!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The remote is awsome. Unlike the old one it can control other devices as well, so you can adjust the volume on your TV with the same remote. The only downside for me is vudu. It does not work with vudu. That is my most used streaming app. That's is why I only have it 4 stars. Once it gets updated and works with vudu it will be perfect.

Good remote for the PS4
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was never happy using the controllers to watch blu rays and dvds on the PS4, so I was happy to find this remote. A big plus was that it could be programmed to control my cable tv box, so that eliminated one remote laying around. There were a few limitations that prevented me from giving it a 5, but I am very happy with it.

Buttons are awful....doesn't work all the time
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is supposed to be the "official" remote but isn't actually manufactured by Sony. I previously purchased the official remote for my PS3 when I first got it and had no problems, so I got this one for my PS4. Big mistake. For starters, I would have expected the button layout to remain similar on the remotes from one gen to the next since the controllers did, but that is not the case. This remote also has smaller buttons with a smaller print than the old one. Not a big deal except the PS4 is billed as a streaming device likely to be located in a theater room or living room. In my home, this room is darkened when playing back content and finding buttons on this remote is a challenge. Would it have been so hard to make them backlit or even glow in the dark? In addition to the visibility problem, the arrow keys make significantly more noise compared to any of the other remotes I've used. You could say I was nitpicking on those issues but it's hard to ignore the fact that this remote just simply doesn't work occasionally. Sometimes it can't turn on the PS4, other times it fails to wake up after it goes to sleep. Other times it stops working while you are using it. In all cases, pulling the batteries out and reinserting them usually gets it working again. When it doesn't, you have to grab the controller to use your PS4 and then turn on the remote. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a dedicated remote for a device that you sometimes need to also use the controller for. On top of all that, mine seems to love batteries quite a bit more than it's predecessor as well. Hopefully, this device is revised but until then I would look at other options like a universal remote from Logitech.

Official but not made by Sony, but still good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, the quality is good not 100% as good as it would have been if it were made by sony like the PS3 verison was, but hey for the price I paid on sale it's acceptable. I was thinking I could use my Logitech Harmony to control my PS4 but unfortunately the PS4 uses Bluetooth not Infrared, so unless you have the more expensive Harmony that can do bluetooth, this remote is a cheaper solution. I don't know if it's just out of laziness, but I do like to have remotes for all my electronics. Most people can probably do without it though, but if you're like me, get it while it's on sale.

PS4 Media remote
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought it on sale so can't complain about the price. Some of the buttons do not work as expected. The dualshock 4 is just as easy to use as a remote. The remote is more streamlined.

Decent Functionality, Laggy Performance
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this not realizing it wasn't a Sony-made product (unlike my PS3 remote) since the packaging is so similar to Sony accessories. That alone wouldn't have made a huge difference, but I do have to wonder if that is the reason performance is only OK. The remote is slow when you first pick it up after a while, sometimes requiring multiple presses of a button for the input to be recognized. In terms of compatibility, it was easy to set up with the PS4 as well as my Sony TV, but I have not had luck getting it to work with my Samsung sound bar, and have not tried to pair with my Time Warner DVR box, so I question its place as a universal remote. However, if all you want is an easier way to control Blu-Ray, DVD, and Netflix on your PS4, it is a solid choice, if a little overpriced.
