Why is it so big? It's really nice looking in all but it is so big. My son loves it

Purchased for a friend. Look great and so much fun. I really want to get one for myself. The controllers feel comfortable. I was on it for over an hour as if i was a kid again. I can't wait to see where this goes as I'm blown away already and this is still a new console. The case is a little meh to me but, easily overlooked. It's a gaming system, not a home decorating piece.
