Customers express satisfaction with the M1 1296P Mirror Dash Cam's camera quality, ease of use, and installation process. Many appreciate the inclusion of a rear view camera and find the price reasonable for the features offered. However, some users note issues with glare on the screen, particularly in bright sunlight, and limitations with night vision capabilities. Concerns were also raised regarding the length of the rear camera cable and battery life.

I bought this for my Mini Cooper JCW a couple weeks ago and absolutely love it! Picture quality is excellent. Very easy to install, just take your time and tuck the wires away so they're out of sight. Wired the back up cam to my reverse light and was pleasantly surprised with the guidance lines. The only con that I have is that the screen on mirror gets washed out in bright daylight making backup cam very difficult to see.

Great Front Camera / So-So Rear Camera

HIGHLIGHTS HD Video with Wide Aperture / Wide Dynamic Range Front Camera 1296p (2304×1296) Forward Camera / 720p (1280×720) Rear Camera Simultaneous Dual Camera Recording 140 Degree Field of View Loop Recording Support for MicroSD Cards up to 256GB Parking monitor records video if G-Sensor registers a jarring movement to vehicle INSTALLATION & SET-UP Installation is quite hard to describe as everyone’s installation will be different if you use both front and rear cameras. However, basic installation of the M1 is super simple. One mini USB power cable and 2 silicone straps is all that is needed to get the unit mounted and installed. The 2 straps secure the M1 to your existing rearview mirror. The forward-facing camera slides in and out on a bracket on the left side (driver’s side) of the M1. The mini USB power cable plugs into the top and can be discreetly routed to a 12V power source. The overall length of the of the power cable is about 7 ft long, by my guesstimate. Basic installation is super easy and quick. Configuration of the M1 is handled at the mirror itself. The entire mirror is a touch screen and all menus are quickly and conveniently located within the mirror’s display. The dash cam has a good set of built-in adjustments to help fine tune the cameras and display to each users’ preferences. The user can set resolution, record duration, shock sensor sensitivity, date, time, volume, exposure, etc. just to name a few. Responsiveness of the touchscreen is smooth and consistent with very little to no lag. As mentioned before, the front, forward facing camera is mounted directly to the mirror/DVR. It can slide in and out about 2 inches to help match the size of your vehicle’s existing rearview. A nice feature is that the forward-facing camera is not stationary on its mount. It can be adjusted in all directions, as well as rotated. This ensures that the recorded image is level and square and the camera is positioned precisely how the user wants it. A very nice feature. PERFORMANCE I find the overall performance of the unit a somewhat mixed bag. I am very impressed with the front camera. Recording at night is always one of the greatest challenge of any dash cam. I am pleased to report that this camera has a much better night image than my current dash cam from another manufacturer. The wide aperture of the front camera ensures nighttime images, with nothing more than headlights illuminating the road ahead, are bright and the surrounding areas are very detailed. Traveling in urban areas at night was even more impressive. The camera does a great job of recording low light areas while not being blown out by streetlights, traffic lights, and oncoming vehicles. I am impressed with the quality of the recorded images compared to Rexing’s competition. However, the rear camera is not as great as the front. That wide aperture 1296p front camera is sorely missed in the rear. The rear camera makes do with just a 720p camera. I could not find any additional specs for the rear camera, but its image quality isn’t anywhere near as good as the front camera. Resolution aside, the rear camera is easily blown out by headlights. Bad enough that the user loses all sense of distance at night to the car behind. The image is worse than any plain rear-view mirror from decades ago. Not to mention, the image doesn’t dim as cars approach from behind, only adding to the lack of depth perception. While this may sound overly critical of the product, I find it an important issue. It’s my opinion that your rear visibility should be of utmost priority if your product is going to take the place of your existing rearview mirror. On a positive note, assuming there is not another vehicle behind, highway images and urban images are plenty detailed at night. Day time images are clear and detailed, as there is nothing to blind the camera from behind. The rear camera can also serve as a back-up camera, should your vehicle not be equipped. A single, one wire connection to your vehicle’s back-up lights is all that is needed to enable this feature. Once connected, the mirror overlays a pair of parking guidelines on the image when the car is shifted into reverse and disappear once the car is shifted to another gear. Very cool and very simple. Well thought out Rexing! The M1 is equipped with what Rexing calls a G-Sensor. It is like a constant guard dog for your vehicle. Once the camera powers down and goes to “sleep”, a built-in battery provides power to the shock sensor. The user decides the level of sensitivity for the shock sensor in the mirror’s set-up menu. If the car then receives a jarring movement greater than that threshold, the mirror records images from both cameras and automatically locks them to prevent deletion. DRAWBACKS I have already discussed the most significant drawback already and that is the poor performance of the rear camera at night. The whole point of the M1 is that it replaces your existing rearview mirror. However, the easily blown out images at night make it hard to determine distances to other cars behind. The whole mirror basically becomes a big, white ball of light with no detail whatsoever. In addition to the poor performance of the rearview camera, it must be noted that the included power cable for the rear camera will not fit every vehicle. Rexing clearly intends this camera to be used in a sedan, crossover, or small SUV. The power cord is nowhere near long enough to fit a standard half-ton full-size truck that Americans know and love. I installed this camera on the rear bumper of a late model F-150 SuperCrew with the 5.5 foot bed. No matter how I ran the cable, it was not long enough to reach the mirror. I was forced to purchase an extension cable to complete my installation. On a positive note, should I decide to move the camera to the back window of the F-150, the included power cable would be more than long enough to reach the rear facing camera. The rear camera’s mounting bracket is poorly designed. Rexing fully intends this camera to be mounted from the top, looking back (from a rear window or under the lip of a truck or decklid). There is no way to flip the mounting bracket over to mount it from the bottom. Attempting to do so only results in an upside-down image on the mirror. A super simple design change, only to the mounting bracket, would solve this issue and cost next to nothing for Rexing. Update: I was able to get the rear facing camera bottom mounted, but not without some Dremel work to the included mounting bracket. This dashcam is missing two important features: The first is GPS. The M1 is not equipped with GPS and does not appear to have the option to support it. Second, this dashcam does not have the ability to stream its recordings to a mobile device. While not as big of a deal breaker as GPS, the ability to stream playback is super convenient. The Rexing M1 allows for playback of the recordings either via the mirror itself, or by removing the microSD card and using a computer with a common player like VLC. Easy enough, but it’s still a hassle. CONCLUSION The M1 is a slick product and everyone that has seen it, really likes it. I also like it. I currently own a competitor’s dashcam and am sold at having a camera both front and rear now. Will the Rexing replace my existing forward-facing only dashcam? Yes, it will. The overall issue I have with the Rexing M1 is that it seems they put all their effort into the mirror and front camera. The rear camera, mounting bracket, power cable all appear like afterthoughts. Something to check a box. The lack of GPS and streaming options are definitely cost cutting efforts and to keep the product from encroaching on Rexing’s other offerings. If I had not been spoiled by my current dashcam’s GPS and Wi-Fi streaming, I might consider this a non-issue. But once you have those options, it is hard to give them up. While not perfect, this is a good product at an attractive price point. The addition of dual cameras at this price point is a great add-on, even if I’m not thoroughly impressed by the rear camera’s offering. However, should a person not need all the additional bells and whistles, this unit will serve them well.

went for a car wash after installed the rear camera(outside and right above the license plate). I noticed water bubbles inside the lens. So that is the real problem ! I would love to use it for back up camera. Now it is useless. If you want to mount it outside like mine, just keep In mind the cable is not long enough . My car is short Chevy Volt !

For the price, this dash cam is packed with features. Let's start with what's in the box: the front facing camera/ mirror combo, the rear camera, the rear extension cable (18ft), the charging cable for the front facing camera (12ft), a cable management tool for getting the cords under trim and ceiling fabric (surprisingly useful), cable management clips for running the rear cable to the back of your car, and mounting stickies/ screws for the rear camera. The rear camera is waterproof so it can be mounted either inside your vehicle or right above the license plate on the outside of your vehicle. It's fairly simple to install all of this yourself, but Geek Squad does offer professional installation if you'd rather not. One thing to note about the rear camera is that it has to be wired to your taillight for the auto backup function to work. That is, when you put your vehicle into reverse, that signal triggers the rear camera system to display parking lines. If you don't want to deal with wiring and still want to use this feature, I'd highly recommend having Geek Squad install the camera. As a part-time food delivery and rideshare driver, having a dash camera has been an absolute necessity for me. Of the dash cameras I've used in the past, this one is excellent. Both cameras are inconspicuous. The front camera is completely adjustable and customizable. You can record in 1296p, 1080p, or 720p all at 30fps. You can slip micro SD cards (up to 256gb) in and out of the top of the camera easily. Formatting happened automatically for me, but there is a button in the settings menu if you need to do it manually. The date and time show up on the right side of the mirror/ screen with the active settings (such as collision detection) visible above with little icons. You can adjust how long the camera is on after vehicle startup before switching to the screensaver setting. Or if you'd rather have a constant view behind your vehicle through the rear camera, you can do that too. The rear camera records in 720p at 25fps which seems to be just fine. Footage is clear enough that you'd be able to make out a license plate if someone rear-ended you. When you hit the record button, both cameras record at the same time, but the only camera visible on the display is the rearview camera. If you unplug the rear camera, the front camera image will be displayed instead. All recorded footage can be viewed on the display by clicking the playback button. I tried the backup camera function and it works flawlessly. That being said, in my particular case, the backup feature is completely redundant. For older vehicles, the backup camera feature and constant view through the rear camera are definitely positive additions to the driving experience. However, I have a vehicle already equipped with a backup camera and a specialized rearview mirror. For this reason, I've disabled the backup camera feature. The front camera also covers the mirror I paid extra for when I purchased my vehicle (shown in picture). Not a huge deal given I want front and rear facing footage around my car at all times, but just something to consider when making the purchase. Overall, I don't think you'll be disappointed if you purchase this camera system. The touch display is easy to use and pretty simple to navigate. I haven't needed it in any critical situations, but I trust Rexing to record and save footage properly in case I ever do!

The M1 is now my second Rexing product, the V1 was my first. The image quality is first rate on the M1, with a wide field of view front and rear it gives me piece of mind. The front being 1296p is obviously better than the rear at 720p, but I’m extremely impressed with both. Your videos are automatically separated on the SD card into different folders for the front and rear. I like that Rexing let’s you adjust the sensitivity of parking mode, I’ve used other brands and had to disable it because it was to sensitive, every time you closed the door it would record a protected video. The Rexing M1 gives you four different settings. Touch screen responsiveness is very good, on par with the best smartphones. You can hardwire the rear camera into your reverse lights, but you may need to splice it with another wire as it’s short. This would be my only gripe with the M1. I was first introduced to dash cams from YouTube with all the crazy Russian dash cam videos. Having a dash cam can save you in a number of ways from someone lying about an accident to having video evidence if something happens, and you’re not around. I’m using it in a 2017 Ford F-150 and it fit perfect over the mirror.

I've wanted a dash cam for years because my car is slightly too old to have one by default, I was absolutely delighted to find this product and everything looked hunky dory, but there are severe problems you should know about before considering purchase of this product. - The glass that covers the display is about as reflective as a normal mirror, this means the product is pretty much completely useless for anything but backing up at night therefore defeating the entire purpose of the product. - The manual is barebones and does not permit you to put the clock in 12 hour time (24 hour only). I'm planning to return this device and just live without a backup camera, I'm really bummed out about it :/

The Rexing dual front and rear facing camera is a unique approach on a pretty common placed dash cam set up. The real question comes down to how well it works and at this price point is this going to be a good buy for you. My hope is that this review will help to clear up any questions you may have before you buy this set up. First off lets talk about what you can expect to receive out of the box and the route that Rexing decided to take with this set up. Out of the box your going to receive the forward facing camera, rear camera, body panel tool, power cables/wiring, some cheap adhesive mounts, and a very basic unhelpful instruction manual. If your not planning on wiring the rear camera to your back up lights to act as a parking aid then set up really isn't too much trouble. Simply mount the forward facing camera directly over your existing rear view mirror then with the provided body panel tool simply run your wires along the molding to the nearest power outlet or cigarette lighter. The rear camera is done in the same manner except instead of going to a power outlet it will hook up to the forward facing camera. I chose to mount mine on the inside of the car on the ceiling near the rear window. Now if you wish you can chose to run the provided wire to your back up lights to provide a parking aid however keep in mind you will need some mild automotive skill as this is going to require you to piggy back the provided wire off of your vehicles reverse light power circuit. Me personally i feel that running the parking aid is useless as the LCD screen will default to the rear camera once it is installed. What this means is every time you power up your dash cam the rear camera is always displayed, so as your backing up the camera is on to guide you, the only real thing you will be lacking is the stupid red, yellow and green lines to help guide you. Lets talk functionality now. Going back to the initial set up there are a couple of things that left a really bad taste in my mouth. One you will need a micro SD card to record and well guess what they don't provide you one. Its like a kid at Christmas getting his favorite toy only to find out you now have to run to the store to go pick up some batteries. Once you get a card in there it will have to be formatted before it will record. Recording can only be done in intervals of 1, 3, and 5 mins. Running a 128 Gig SD card so far i've been able to save up to 45, five minute footage clips. Second thing that bothered me was there was no provided app. As far in to technology as we are there is a app for everything, EXCEPT this dash cam. I have tested several other dash cams and even the cheap $40 dash cams come with a app that you can use to access your footage or save and store your footage. If you need to save your footage it can be done one of two ways. It will save directly on to the camera via the SD card or you have to pull the SD card out and upload it to your PC. Second Rexing kinda has this to be future proof (sort of) in the way of firmware updates however since there is no provided app at this point you will have to remove the camera and hook it up to your PC for firmware updates. Third it uses a automated power shut down feature that works only if your car is set up for it. Let me explain what i mean by this and how it was a drag for me. The unit hooks up to a power supply outlet which is in the form of a cigarette lighter. The only problem is all cigarette lighters receive power at all times rather the car is on or off. Only newer vehicles that have a dedicated power source that is tied in to the ignition switch will power off when the vehicle is powered off. My vehicle doesn't have a dedicated power source tied in to the ignition so what this boils down to is if you are like me and don't like having the LCD screen on at night because its too bright, then you better hope you remember to shut the camera off when you get to your destination or the camera will stay on all night recording while draining your battery down. I made this mistake several times and woke up one morning to a very weak battery. And last but certainty not least is the way this dash cam takes the place of your rear view mirror. This can be a annoying feature or cool feature depending on your view of this set up. With it taking the place of your rear view this means you have two ways of looking behind you. You can either utilize the rear facing camera if you have it installed however there are two things i found annoying with this set up. One, during the day the sun causes a double image as you see in the photo i provided and two while using this at night its pretty distracting as the LCD screen can be bright even at the lowest setting. If you don't want to use this set up then you can turn the LCD screen off and use its reflective screen as a mirror. During the day this method works pretty good however at night forget about it. The only thing your going to see at at night is faint lines and headlights. Oh, also if you have tinted windows then you are really going to struggle to see at night out of your rear view. If your curious just to how well the reflective screen works, simply go up to your computer monitor while it is off and that is basically how reflective it is. Let's bring some positive comments in this conversation now. The picture quality is really good both on the forward facing camera and rear camera. I was more surprised as to how well the rear camera recorded as it is only a 720p lens. Quality was good enough to make out license plates and people in the vehicle behind you. There is a built in mic which picks up crystal clear audio and can be turned on/off on the fly. The forward facing camera gives you a nice wide angle lens so that you are able to pick up on areas that would normally be out of a cameras field of vision. You have the ability to also take snap shot still photos which can be saved for later use. If you run out of memory no biggie as the camera will automatically over write footage starting with the oldest. There is a built in G-Sensor which hopefully i never have to use. The way the G-Sensor works is if it is turned on and it detects a sudden impact in the vehicle it will lock all recorded footage up to that moment so that it cannot be deleted. Over all that's pretty much about it. Here's my final thoughts. Does it do what it is intended to do? Absolutely. Is video footage good? Nope, its actually great. The main issues i have is that im comparing this set up to other units that i have tried and ya while it gets you from point A to point B it seems to take the scenic route in the way it gets there. What i mean by this is it utilizes no app service or cloud storage, updates must be done via a PC, there is no provided SD card, but more importantly it takes the place of your rear view mirror without being as reflective as your rear view mirror. This feature alone is so annoying to me that i have actually started to fabricate myself a bracket simply so i can mount the screen on to my dash so that i can get my rear view mirror back. All in all this is really going to come down to personal preference and for me at this price point i feel there are way better cameras in the market that do a better job at achieving their goal without being as intrusive to your vehicles set up. My suggestion would be to make sure you research other options before diving in to this unit.

Slick front and rear dash cam on a budget

The Rexing M1 is an excellent front and rear dash cam at a good value. In fact, this could easily be a 5 star rating with a simple firmware update. Let's start with the good. If you've ever wanted a hidden screen in your car, you're in luck. The Rexing M1 straps onto the front of your rear view mirror with elastic bands holding it in place. Yeah, the little slide out camera is a bit of a give away and so are the power and camera wires on top, but it's fairly low key overall. What's really nifty is that the whole mirror is a screen, unlike most systems where the screen is just a box in the mirror. By doing this, the reflection is consistent for the whole mirror so it's not obvious it's hiding a monitor for a much better stealth effect. Plus you can use it to live stream the rear view camera for an extremely wide rear view mirror view. Sometimes I'm torn between using it in mirror mode or live streaming the rear view camera, but the only reason I'm undecided on this is because of how good the cameras are. The picture quality is crisp, bright, and offers good color rendition. What's most impressive is how well they do in low light. It's noisy in absolute darkness, but does a surprisingly good job while driving through town at night. The #1 thing a dash cam should be good at is being a camera, and for the budget the Rexing M1 passes with flying colors. If you really want to make this a slick item, get it professionally installed so all the wires are hidden and the mirror blends in. The wiring harness for the rear camera attaches to one of your reverse lights, so the mirror automatically switches to the rear camera view when the car is put in reverse. You can set the screen to timeout after the car is out of reverse or to constantly live stream the front or rear camera angles. It's a touch screen display, so switching views is as simple as swiping left and right. There's a few things you can customize in settings like smart illumination, picture quality, and contrast, however I wish it was possible to change to a 12 hour clock format. I don't really mind the military time, but I'd rather not have to do the math. Maybe in a future firmware update? Speaking of which, I updated mine to the latest firmware and it unlocked a higher quality SHD recording quality. Unfortunately, setting it to this mode disables the rear camera completely, which means it’s only useful if you're using it exclusively as a front dash cam. Personally, the FHD quality is crisp enough and keeps the rear camera alive, so that's where I keep it. I absolutely love that it records the front and rear at the same time and the built-in mic does a great job of picking up sound. What also makes the M1 a delight is that it records video in the .mov file type. This is playable by most video players today, meaning no need to waste time converting files. Just drag and drop the file to where you want it. EASY. While the Rexing M1 is a solid piece of hardware overall, it could easily be a 5 star item with a firmware update. I'd love to see a 12 hour clock, parking lot monitor feature, and an SHD mode that keeps the rear camera alive. Also, the screen time out feature is called screen saver for some reason. Translation issue? Either way, it's a solid unit and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a stealthy dash cam.

First let me start by saying the Rexing M1 DashCam is incredible and I think anybody who buys this product would find it to be too. I had mine installed by the professionals at BestBuy and drove away with the feeling of driving a new car. I was just amazed at the clarity I now have while driving that I use to not have. There is also the blind spot assistance that warns me while driving and the back up guidelines while I'm reversing. There is many jobs this dash cam can do but the biggest one is the collision sensing and the locking of the video that was recorded. Knowing now that if something ever happened and it being recorded provides me with a new sense of security. The dash cam is also a touch screen and allows you to take pictures if you ever needed to or if there was a beautiful sunset that you wanted to maybe capture. The video quality and the display is perfect even while driving at night in the dark! The really cool thing about the Rexing Dashcam is that this product can offer people with an old car to have the opportunity or chance to take advantage of this new technology that offers safety and security while driving. Parents who have a teenager driving should think about having the Rexing Dashcam installed because this could definitely assist a newer driver. This product can help so many people drive more safely and that alone speaks volumes!

The best part about this dash cam is the 10" display screen, it uses the full reverse mirror as a touch screen display, making it very easy to see your recordings, and to select features. It also uses a special horizontal view about 1/3rd of what the camera actually sees and records, so that everything doesn't look too compressed and distorted. You can still see the rest of the video by re-positioning the view up or down, to see what doesn't fit into the mirror screen, but the standard view is usually perfect. The video quality is pretty good during the day, everything is very distinguishable, and the detail on vehicles and buildings is pretty good, however it is very difficult to make out words smaller than probably a foot in height. License plates and street signs are rarely legible, unless you are literally sitting on top of them. This is fairly typical with a lot of dash cams, especially as everything is always in motion. The cameras must come with a very low lux rating( which is good), I can only presume, because they seems to pick up most things in low light areas, but pretty much nothing in pure darkness. In the settings there is an option for "night mode" on or off. When in the "on" mode, glare is cut down slightly at night, and darker areas are smoother looking, and less grainy. There is a microphone mounted on the device that seems to pick up all the cabin sounds., and the speaker is loud enough to hear everything during playback. The device is very easy to install, just make sure the front facing camera is extended out to the side, then place the unit over your existing rear view mirror , and pull the two rubber straps around the back of the mirror, and latch them to the bottom of the dash cam. I love how less obtrusive this is, over other dash cams that take up too much of your windows view. Once the Dash cam is attached you can add the power and optional rear view camera input. The rear camera is the only thing that is going to take a little bit of effort, to run the wires, and attach in a good spot. The camera actually disconnects from the bulk of the wires, so that you can run the wires easier, and then just plug the camera back in afterwards. The wide angle view on both cameras is pretty good at 140 degrees, but even more impressive as there is almost no fish-eye distortion in the videos. The cam also has a G-Sensor, that can be set to different sensitivities to automatically save protected videos of accidents or someone tampering with your car while it's unattended. There is no GPS, so this can not log your speed or travels in that manner. However there is a GPS port on the top of the cam, that at this moment does not function, but according to Rexing support, they are planning on making this an active port through a future firmware revision. It also does not have any wireless capabilities to your phone, wifi, or other cameras.. But at this price point with those features, that would be a steal. It does however have guided back up lines for parking, when wired correctly. If you splice the red rear camera wire into the reverse lights, every time you put the vehicle into reverse, the rear camera is activated on screen, and the guide lines are present. As with most dash cams, you can take still photos from the menu on the touch screen. You can adjust a lot of the features in the settings, including video length, duration, volume, exposure, G-sensor and video looping. The playback menu includes folders for both the front camera and rear camera. These videos run in full screen isolated of each other. They do not play side by side, so you get the full view of each while watching them back. All the videos are date and time stamped so you could find the corresponding rear view with the same time as the front camera if needing to show both perspectives for any reason. There are also two extra folders in the playback menu one extra for the front and one for the back, they are labeled with "F" and "R" but also have a small notation to the bottom right of the letter that is too small for me to make out. I asked Rexing support about these, and they didn't have much to say, so I am assuming these folders might be for a future recording feature not yet implemented. If you are looking for a decent quality dual camera system than this should meet your needs. *****WARNING - do not update your firmware to Version: M1-36-966-190403 after doing the update from the Rexing website, it has made my camera inoperable. The front camera output is black, and the rear camera output is off center and digitized. Rexing is not sure why this has happened to my dash cam, and is trying to find a solution. So just a word of caution, although, this could be an isolated incident with my cam.

    A Case of Extremes

The Rexing M1 is a snap to install. Just push it up against your rearview mirror, pull the straps around the back of the factory mirror and attach it to the hooks on the bottom of the M1. Hide the wires (they include a tool) and plug them in. You're done. There's also an optional rear camera, though many will be disappointed in it (more on that later). Once mounted, it's inconspicuous. The camera is mounted on the side of M1 mirror, and is fully adjustable (if the horizon is off you can rotate the lens). Unfortunately, the up and down adjustment was not enough on my 2013 F-150. The windshield of my truck has little black dots on the top center to protect/hide the factory electronics on the mirror, and I can't adjust the M1's camera down enough to look under it. It can still "see" through it, and while it's a minor annoyance, in sunlight the "shade" on the windshield is more pronounced (see attached photo). All controls are accessed via the mirror's IPS touchscreen disply, with the exception of the on/off button. The displayed image is crisp and clear, even at night. When driving at night there's little to no "bloom" effect. The view angle is very wide, with no noticeable "fisheye" distortion. I've never seen better images from a dash cam. As much as I love the camera, there are a couple of shortcomings. First, you can't stream the recorded video to your device. You can however remove the SD card and then view it on your computer if you have the correct adapter. Unfortunately, you have to go purchase and SD card - one does not come with the unit. The other shortcoming is there is not GPS, so it will not record location and speed data. There is a GPS interface on the top of the camera, but there is no current support. I presume a future firmware update will allow you to connect an optional GPS unit. Other than that, the camera is so good I would still give it a 5 star review. Unfortunatley, the rear camera drags down the overall rating. As good as the front camera is, the rear camera disappoints to the same degree. At 720p the resolution is nowhere near as good, and while the front camera is excellent at night, the bloom is so bad on the rear camera it's pretty much useless at night. The cable is too short for me to mount it on the rear bumper, and while it's waterproof I think they meant for it to be installed inside the car, as the mounting bracket is designed for the camera to mount from above. The picture is upside down if you don't. If you don't already have a backup camera, the M1's rear camera can also be used as a backup camera. The disappointment is compounded by the fact that the M1 can record videos from front and rear cameras simultaneously, and a decent rear camera would make this feature outstanding. The M1 also has a built-in sensor which will sense impacts and record even when the vehicle is not running. If someone tries to break into the car, or another vehicle runs into it while it's unattended, the M1 will capture a recording and lock it so it will be safe from being overwritten by video being looped if you run out of SD card storage space. The sensitivity of this feature is adjustable. So overall we have and excellent front camera, while one could easily argue whether the rear camera even usable. As excellent as the front camera and the design is it's missing a couple of noticeable features: GPS and wifi. Still, I forgive this due to the Rexing M1's MSRP. It's priced reasonably enough that even with it's shortcomings, it's an excellent value in my opinion, and I have no problem recommending it. Just don't expect much from the rear camera...

Not a good solution to the problem

Full disclosure - I received this product as part of a review board. I have used dashcams before, so I am comparing this product to what was considered the standard among the shared ride driver with whom I spoke. PROS: 1. Easy to mount on your rearview mirror, simply wrap the rubber straps around your existing mirror 2. Relatively low cost Neutral: The rear-facing camera is a separate camera meant to mount where you existing back-up camera is today, so it replaces it without having a rearfacing camera the sees your backseat. Good if you want a back-up camera, not good if you are a shared ride driver and need the interior recording. CONS: 1. The instructions are not sequenced correctly for the physical layout of the camera. It tells you to mount the camera and then insert the memory card. This is difficult to see to do and to insert your hand once it is on the rearview mirror. This is just one example of the poorly-written instruction manual, which like some product manuals for items manufactured overseas, has not been written in English by a native English speaker but rather translated.. Also, it exposes the greatest fault, which is - 2. The power button is in the place where my hand lands most of the time when adjusting the mirror or handing the Rexing, smack in the middle of the bottom of the frame. If you take your right hand and place it on your own rear view mirror, look to see where your thumb is and that is precisely where the power button is located. I found my self turning the unit on and off every time I touched it. 2. The instructions for formatting the SD card are either incorrect or the firmware is faulty. I followed the instructions and never received a " formatting complete" message, only the same repeated instructions to format the card. The card did format and video did record well, in 90 MB files. 3. The menu does not appear until you touch the screen - that is nowhere in the instructions. 4. There is no app to assist with the setup - all setup is done on the Rexing screen. 5. The video quality is poor - in an attached file, you cannot make out the license plate of an approaching vehicle no more than 10 feet away. 6. Because f the rubber mounting straps, the slightest vehicle vibration is translated to your rear view mirror and thus to the Rexing. In other words, it shares a lot. 7. The camera picks up all the reflection from both the glare and the interior surface of my vehicle - you can clearly see the top of my dash in the attached image. Finally, the ample wiring on this product screams out for professional installation. The cost of professionally install this product (run the power wire to a hot wire in the front and the rear camera video and power wires to the back, all done under the trim in a manner that is undetectable and does not destroy your interior, would probably be greater than the cost of the item itself. With this poor video and software quality and especially because of the design of the position of the power button, I'm not interested in finding out.

First foremost the cameras on this dash cam and for the price are both amazing. The camera quality is HD and it is so much better than the OEM backup camera in my vehicle. The other feature that I loved was how the video is displayed on the full rear view mirror and not just a small square that I have seen on most vehicles. The only negative thing about the dash cam that I could think of is touchscreen is about 95% responsive, which for me is still pretty good for the fact that the whole rear view mirror is utilized as a display. A word of advice, have this professionally installed, even though I knew what I was doing, it still took me a little bit.

It is great to have front and rear video because if anything happens while I’m on the road it’s being recorded with that said the camera on the rear it is not of same quality of picture as the front and at night headlights or any lights distort the view, the mirror has reflections of everything that’s around it so I can see inside my car rather well instead of saying the road behind me. You have to have The mirror tilted in such a way for the front camera to get the best view and when you do this you’ve got reflection of everything and you cannot see the view that’s its projecting. But I’m very happy that I did finally get something recording while I’m driving and the emergency activation works well as I have shut my hatch back and every time it automatically turns on and starts recording 30 seconds so that’s good case somebody hits the car or breaks the window to get in the car it will be Recording, great that it has audio which if you play it back from the mirror it’s great but if you take the micro card and install it and two a laptop and upload the video the sound is deleted for some reason? But I cannot be hacked and I like that. I hope this helps and I have not had it for one month so I don’t know how long it will last? Worth the money so far.

Great Camera but only if installed correctly

I bought this on sale during thanksgiving and was dreading installing it on my 08 Honda CR-V. After a friend of mine just lost his truck in accident where the lady that hit him didn’t admit fault in running the red light and without witnesses it was neither fault I finally decided to get it installed. To get a good image from the back camera it needs to be installed outside. Popping out all the trim, on the rear door and feeding the wire through the license plate light took forever. I had to extend the red backup wire in order to reach the reverse light (I have a small trailer that I pull often and I wanted to see it when in reverse to connect it). After taking a whole day to install it I tested it and although both camera views in the mirror/screen were way too high- adjusting the cameras was preventing me to use the rear view mirror when the image times up. I was ready to return it when I started reading the instructions and found that the camera view can be changed by swiping left and right and up and down. That changed everything- I was finally able to see the trailer hitch when backing up or adjusting the front camera view while preserving some use of the rear view mirror. At this point I was definitely happy with the results. I hope that the build quality is good and it lasts because if I need to pull all those cables to the back camera again am changing this review to 0 stars. It’s a great camera if you take the time to install the back camera correctly on the outside of the car. If you plan to use it behind the rear window of the car you will be better off with one of the Rexting V models.

Acts as both a dash cam and backup camera. Backup camera is on all the time and offers a much wider view than a traditional rear view mirror. Significant glare in full sun however. Excellent in wet weather.
