Let me state that dont expect to play every new game on this device! And play at 720p the cpu bottlenecks alot if you try 1080p on more demanding games, There was a review on here that said it wouldnt run forza horizen 5 and thats just dead wrong, that constant jitter he was complaining about was because you need to play on 720p, turn your gpu memory to 6 GB, use the recommended settings that asus has listed on their website, do this and the game looks amazing and will always stay 45 FPS+ mostly staying over 55FPS. Halo MCC 720p and game will stay almost always 50FPS Min, looks great. Almost every game needs to be played at 720p on this system and maybe that sounds bad but on a 7 inch screen 720 p looks great. Metro 2033 and metro last light run great, fallout 4 on 720p runs great but it runs at 30FPS most of the time. If you try 1080p the games will stutter from time to time so stick with 720p ive played war of rights on lowest settings 720p and usually im 30-40 FPS with an occasional 27-29 ish FPS Dip when . Gears of war reloaded performs great, mass effect legendary collection runs great on 720 p hits 100FPS alot.. hog warts on low 720p is 40FPS+……… mortal kombat 11 runs great on high settings 60 FPS+…… so on top of the games you get a usable pc that with a adaptor you can hook up to a tv and use bluetooth keyboards and mouse and do anything you would on a normal pc, and its actually more capable than alot of your normal office pcs/laptops, can also use the pc on the device thou touchscreen can be more of a learning curve, but thats a plus, battery life usually last 2 hours in turbo gaming, device is a streaming powerhouse if you got gamepass ultimate, battery life when streaming is like super great, swear ive played for 8 hours once……feels great in the hands. Dont expect to play helldivers 2 or games like super demanding and new, though black ops 7 runs on this device but that because they spent alot of resources and time to optimize it to….. just expect to play alot of games from a few years ago and older and keep resolution at 720p

The hardware is pretty solid for gaming on its own or on the go. The software has some issues... when you buy it you will need wifi and update it and optimize your settings and downloads for a few hours. When you get everything downloaded and optimized its solid for any purpose. The Xbox Ally boots up in xbox app big picture mode IT IS NOT AN XBOX, it is a handheld pc that has preferences that you can change. The ally uses a APU so the gpu and cpu are shared most games expect around 60 to 90fps with max optimization for fps in modern games and 20-50 fps in max/high quality settings in games. The reason it cant go higher is because of the battery. You not hitting 120fps isnt really your fault the 30w battery cant really handle it even plugged in with manual turbo. Overal 4/5! Hardware is 3/5 Hardware is solid for a handheld, even better than steamdeck. But not as good as a gaming pc or laptop even on the low end. Software 2/5 Pre set modes are fine if you arent using it for serious settings, but if you want good or peak preformance you need to manually change settings. Armory crate is amazing but can be confusing for awhile. Its amazing just a bit akward and long to set up. If you are a hardcore gamer that wants something on the go and you understand some basic software info I highly reconmend.

For a beginner in a portable gaming console, the biggest win here is flexibility. You’re not locked into a single store or subscription. You can use Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Epic Games, and more, all on one device. If you’re coming from a traditional console, that freedom feels like a big upgrade. The 512GB storage is enough to get started, though you’ll likely run out of space quickly if you install larger modern games, so a microSD card or upgrade becomes almost necessary. And for the performance it is solid for a handheld. It runs many modern games smoothly on medium settings, and older or less demanding titles run great. The screen is sharp and vibrant, which makes a noticeable difference compared to cheaper handhelds. Controls feel familiar if you’ve used an Xbox controller, so there’s not much of a learning curve on that front. Overall its a great portable console within the budget.....

I recently picked up the ROG Ally and was genuinely impressed. The 120Hz display makes games look stunning, and performance is consistently smooth with no overheating issues. It feels premium in hand, with responsive controls that make it ideal for gaming on the go or docked to a monitor. While the battery life could be better, the overall power and portability more than make up for it—this compact device is a serious gaming machine.

Got the base Xbox ROG Ally on sale and honestly it’s been awesome. Performance is great for a handheld, the screen looks nice, and having Game Pass + PC games in one place is super convenient. Is it worth full price? Not really — battery life and storage are both a bit limiting on the base model. But at a good deal like I got, it’s totally worth picking up.

I have had the xbox rig ally for about 2 months and I love and dislike it in different ways. First of all it comes with the Z2a processor but that is about the same processor in the steam deck but higher clocked meaning it puts out more power. comparing it to the steam deck it has about a 15% buff in performance, some games are different like cyber punk running better on the steam deck but this is because of steam tweaking with settings to make it run better. the controller on this is ergonomically designed to fit perfect in hands also a beautiful 7 inch ips screen. over all if you don't mind playing fps games on low settings and rpg games on medium to high depending on what game the xbox dog ally works perfect but if not save up and get the xbox rog ally x or Lenovo legion go s z1 extreme.

I picked up the ROG Ally recently, and it’s way better than I expected. Games look amazing on the 120Hz screen, and it runs everything super smooth without overheating. The build feels premium, the controls are solid, and it’s perfect for gaming on the go or plugged into a monitor. The battery could be better, but honestly, the performance makes up for it—it’s a tiny beast of a gaming rig.

I’ve had my Xbox Ally for a little over 4 months now and it’s amazing I bought mines open box for $400 and this make a great introduction to the pc/handheld world although I’m not able to play all my games at 1080p playing at 720p and using graphics upscaling makes it not so bad. I play a lot of heavy hitters like Crimson Desert, Elden Ring, Monster Hunter Wilds, etc.. and still hit 30+ fps. I also dabbled in emulation and it works like a charm. Great on battery life especially if you cloud play games my only complaint is the storage but upgrading is easy. For people who budget it’s to not spend $1000+ on a handheld other than the switch 2 it’s a golden choice.

It’s a small pc in your hand. If you are looking for pure handheld experience it might come as an odd one out. Happy with the performance, All the games run smooth so far. Battery backup is good. Screen has the right colors for a handheld.

Almost perfect!!! I really didn’t want to spend the $1K for the X but the processing power isn’t what I thought it would be with the Z2a If the steam deck is the direct competitor, then I’d say get a steam deck instead or go for the X BUT with all that said, I’m very happy with this! It’s a fantastic little portable PC and it’s been so much fun playing my games and then picking up where I left off on my PC with steam! The newer games will run and test your system like NBA 2K26 runs so hot and at full 30 watts power But I just played a couple of hours of Sniper Elite V2 and Kingdom Hearts 2.5 at 1080p with 60 frames or more with ultra settings!!! Well KH might’ve been a little lower than ultra! But Sniper Elite ran around 90-100 FPS when I dropped the resolution to 720p and you don’t sacrifice a lot of resolution as it keeps a very well looking game on screen and the extra FPS looks gorgeous! But yeah, if you’re not looking for crazy power this system is fantastic! Oh and definitely get a SD card for more storage or buy a SSD and clone that! I’m gonna get at least a 2TB SSD to clone and leave in my system!

After buying a switch 2 this summer I became intrigued about this base model of the Xbox Ally. In short, I kept both for weeks and decided to sell my switch 2. This machine runs games far better than internet/youtube commentators would have you believe. The screen, though smaller than switch 2, is much, much better. The sound is cinematic and wraps around your head. Also, it's a full pc when you want it to be. Not a toy. Although, it is desinged to prioritize gaming. In closing, I was initially impressed with switch 2 running Fortnite and Street Fighter 6. After using the Xbox Ally, this runs everything better with far greater ergonomics, flexibility, game settings, and every game launcher available. Excellent product.

The ROG Ally Xbox delivers smooth gameplay, sharp graphics, and responsive controls in a sleek, portable design. Perfect for gaming on the go, with excellent battery life and seamless Xbox integration. Truly a must-have for any gamer!

Excellent for portable gaming, very powerful, excellent quality. You can play your Xbox games without any problem from anywhere.

Excellent condition open box purchase came with almost everything factory. The xbox pass code was missing but not overly concerned with it. There was some dirt in the small crevices, the joysticks, and triggers. Some alcohol cleaned this up quickly and easily. The product feels new and unless you knew it was open box, you wouldn't notice other wise. The Ally had been registered with ASUS and took some work with customer service to get the unit freed up for me to re-register but this is no fault of Best Buy. Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase and it has revolutionized how I game. The freedom to pick up and play in shorter bursts without having to be in at my dedicated PC is such an awesome feeling. I would recommened anyone to checkout the Open Box section before making a full retail purchase. On a side note, the storage is slightly limiting. With current prices on M.2 storage, if you have the extra money, go with the Ally X version.

This is a really great device if you play lower demanding games but it can overall fulfill your needs. Now the only reason I’m giving this 4/5 is because the Xbox Rog Ally X is far more superior than the standard one. With that being said I am to believe you’re getting what you pay for!

switched to bazzite and its still really good. good frames in all games i play and the battery is way better than the z1e. i play on 720p in every game cuz i really do not care about visual fidelity (you cant even tell the difference on this screen) and it gives way better performance than 1080p.

I’ve been using the Xbox Rog Ally for a few days now, and I’m thoroughly impressed by its ease of use, performance, and graphic quality. I began testing “heavy” games like Black Myth, Spider-Man 2, God of War, and so on, and they ran exceptionally well. Subsequently, I focused on games I was playing on my Xbox, such as Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor, and I’ve made significant progress compared to before. The ability to play anywhere is a huge advantage. You don’t need to be fully online to play the games you install. The Xbox library compatibility is excellent, and you can also play games from other platforms on it.

After seeing reviews it made this sound like a waste of money and incredibly underpowered, but after trying it first hand it was amazing games run very smoothly in full HD and the full screen experience is super cool. While this is isn't a perfect handheld experience they cut a lot of the bloat of windows making it significantly better. I would definitely recommend the rog xbox alley to anyone looking for a handled pc but would advise them to wait for a discount as I did.

Came good packaging was good runs smooth would recomend to take on the road last about 2 hours with full graphics all the way also if u turn it Down some it would last 4 to 5 hours it’s also a computer id buy one if u like gaming and your working or out on a car ride this is good to have Xbox really did a good job with this

I was highly considering a PC handheld to enhance my current setup. My choices narrowed down between the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. I began reading and watching a number of reviews that spoke highly of the ROG Xbox Ally's surprising performance and decided to take the plunge. I was plesantly suprised! With my other handheld being a Nintendo Switch 2, I worried that the ROG Xbox Ally would possibly be uncomfortable overtime given the size. So far, it has been phenomenal! The unit is much lighter than expected and the grips are perfect. Screen size is very good, and the quality of the image is great which was a welcome surprise given the fact it isn''t OLED. It's one of the key features that far surpasses expectations. Performance was my biggest worry. With so many reviews trying to get me to lean toward a Steam Deck, I worried that it would be a significant drop from my Xbox Series X, PS5, Switch 2 or gaming PC. Although it will never reach the quality of the Xbox, PS5 or PC, it is a perfect travel or couch companion. It has been able to handle anything that I've thrown at it as long as I'm not attempting to play games on unreasonable graphics settings. If I set games to a decent quality and use FSR, it runs exceptionally well. I can easily play more graphically intensive games at 30-45 FPS, and less intensive games at 60fps or higher. Battery life has also been a pleasant surprise. I've been able to get play time comparable to my Switch 2 which is way more than what I was expecting. Again, this is possibly due to my realistic graphics settings. I'd highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for a great gaming handheld and a phenomenal price given the recent price increases. If you're looking for this to be your primary gaming device, it may not be for you (you might want to go with the ROG Xbox Ally X for that). For anyone looking for a solid secondary handheld device, the ROG Xbox Ally is a no-brainer!
