I would have liked to give this SUHD television a five star, but upon further investigation I have discovered that the display does not do very well with darker scenes. I was not as impressed with the 4K abilities as I would have liked to been.

Gave 4 stars due to the fact that it seems very bright. To where it is not easy on the eyes at times. Especially when the screen is white. Would have like the frame in black instead of chrome.

I was told how this TV was the best in its class and that the color popped. It pales in comparison to any Samsung TV that I own. I also have issues with the blue tooth.

The Only Review You Need To Read, PERIOD!

This review is based on my initial thoughts on the 60" KS8000 Samsung LED television after having it for just over a week. Overview: MY 60" Panasonic Plasma died (I felt like I lost a member of my family) and therefore I needed a suitable replacement. Before I continue you have to know that my Plasma had been calibrated by Best Buy and looked absolutely phenomenal. It's picture, especially with Blu-Ray's like the Dark Knight, was untouchable (and still is) by any LED/LCD (non-OLED) television on the market today. I'm only bringing this up so readers of this review know that the expectations for my next TV was based off of getting the same or better performance than my Plasma. Also keep in mind that my budget is $2,000 so OLED is not an option. After weeks of reviews and research I narrowed my options down to the KS8000 and the Vizio P65. The LG 65UH8500 and Sony 850D were on my list but were removed quickly after seeing them in-store and ready several online reviews, including videos, that show massive amounts of edge light bleeding. One thing to keep in mind is that I knew going into this that ALL LED tv's (excluding OLED) that are not full-array backlit (FALD) like the P65 will have some edge light bleeding. Anyone who says that have a non-OLED LED TV that is edge-lit and says that they have no edge light bleeding is being dishonest or is blind. I decided on the Samsung over the P65 based on the fact that the P65 is only available in 65” (55” and smaller are available but I need a 60”), online reviews are sketchy and clearly show there are quality problems and I don’t want to exchange 10 tv’s to get a good one, and primarily because 80% of my tv content is 1080i Directv and from everything I read the up-scaling from 720 or 1080i on the Vizio is terrible. First Impressions: Out of the box the picture of the Samsung looked horrible. The image was way too bright, contrast was off, etc. This gave me immediate heartburn and I started to second guess my decision. Other than the terrible picture, setup was easy and intuitive. It literally only took me 10 min's to setup the tv including hooking up all HDMI's, connecting to my Wi-Fi network, etc. One feature of the tv is that you can control all of your components with the included remote e.g.; Directv, Blu-ray, etc. I turned all of this off as I didn't find it as intuitive as I believe the engineers at Samsung design the system to be. The next step was to try and manipulate the picture settings in order to get the picture to be as close to or better than my Plasma. After a week of manipulating the picture settings I finally have the TV looking really good. The colors pop and the blacks are deep black. There is a bit of edge light bleeding from the bottom and sides of the TV however, it is minimal and only really noticeable when watching letterbox movies. The edge light bleeding on the sides is only viewable when you are switching between channels and does not affect the picture of the TV once an image appears. Pro's and con's are as follows; Pros: 1.) Once you get the picture dialed in it is really good. Blacks are really deep and colors pop. The TV is really bright but not too bright. 2.) Up-scaling is really good. Watching “The Martian” in 1080p looks like 4k. Even up-scaling from 1080i Directv is good. 3.) I’ve experienced zero jitter or motion blur watching sports or playing First person shooter video games on Xbox One. 4.) TV frame and overall look is stunning. 5.) Navigating through all settings is easy and intuitive Cons: 1.) Picture is horrible out of the box but can be improved drastically with a little patience 2.) After connecting all my HDMI components to the televisions external HDMI/input box and then using the optical digital out I realized that the optical digital out does not output surround sound, it only outputs a stereo signal to my home theater receiver. Really Samsung? How did this happen? 3.) Like every LED (excluding FALD or OLED), the KS8000 does have some edge light bleeding. It bothers me but I believe dealing with it outweighs the potential disadvantages of going with the P65. It really is minimal as people who see the TV only notice it when I point it out to them. 4.) Off-angle viewing is REALLY BAD. As soon as you move away from the center of the TV you start to lose picture and everything starts looking washed out. This is the worst TV I’ve even seen when it comes to off- angle viewing but since I watch it 99% of the time from directly in front of the TV it’s fine. If you have a wide living room with folks sitting off to the side you may want to consider a different option. Final thoughts: The KS8000 is a solid TV. I’ve considered exchanging it with the same model to try and get one with less edge light bleeding but they all have it so I’m going to deal with it. The picture using movie mode, Warm 1 and with some adjustments to the back light, brightness and color settings is just as good as my Plasma with the exception of having a bit of edge light bleeding. If OLED isn’t an option for you and you’re looking for the best 60” TV for under $2k this has to be on the top of your list. HOWEVER, if you sit at more than even a little off-angle you need to look elsewhere as this TV has horrible off-angle performance. And, if you want zero edge light bleeding than you need to go OLED or FALD.
