I purchased this to connect to a Schlage Connect deadbolt. Set up was easy although connecting to my deadbolt was a little more time consuming. I had to move my router closer to my front door. Overall I'm happy with the purchase and look forward to adding more smart things to my house.

This was exactly the gadget I needed to tie everything together. It works perfectly with all my Alexa devices, my Harmony universal remote, my GE smart wall switches, my Honeywell thermostat and my garage door opener. Installation took minutes and the app for your phone is super easy to use. I have set up routines, rooms and scenes.

Cant find one bad thing so far. Set up went great. I have it linked with an echo. I like that many different brands work with it. Just read up on what's compatible before buying add ons. I am slowly added items. The cree bulb works great. Turned a normal lamp into a night light/timer/thwft deterrent all with one bulb and the smartthings hub.

I read many reviews, and lots of internet research. I needed something that would work with many different thinks and the main think was my schlage locks, not to many smart routers work with as many different technologies as this one, you will see when you start expanding your home automation. I may need help it's becoming an addiction. Lol

    Worst Support Ever

I have never experienced a poorer support group. I worked in the support field for thirty two years and never worked with a support group this bad. If I new the support was this bad I never would of bought it. I was planning to replace my Wink system thinking it would be an upgrade, but was I wrong. I have moved many of my devices back to Wink. After over a month and still not getting it working correctly I moved it back to Wink and it works properly. Samsung has been saying they are trying to hire and train new Techs, but come on, after six months of this and no improvements I don't think they are trying very hard. Also when they do respond the answer is poor. Example answer - first exclude the device then try to install it. The problem is they did not say how to exclude the device and the screen is several layers deep. I could continue to write several pages of complaints but typing one finger is getting old. DO NOT BUY unless you are a techno weinee and like to program your own device typ5.

This was a great addition to our Smart Home. We bought it so that we could add some Z-Wave lights to our house, as they are usually much cheaper then the wifi-enabled bulbs. We never have any down time, and everything works seamlessly. I would check around though, as the price can fluctuate a different vendors a great deal.

Working with Z-Wave but not Zigbee

I intend to use this SmartThings Hub to replace my StaplesConnect D-Link Hub. The latter is discontinued with its previously working SunRise/SunSet trigger malfunctioned. The positive thing is SmartThings Hub Integrated SunRise/SunSet automation and it works with Z-wave devices. The negative things is that SmartThings does not support many ZigBee devices I have. Seems that I may have to replace it later.

    Automating my home

As far as ease of setup and reliability, I've been very satisfied... automating my home has been a breeze. I'm only knock 1 star off for the app itself because the more devices you add, more tedious it becomes to use. Would be nice to have some kind of grid view for all devices to easily see what is on/off vs. the ever growing list.

    Hobby

Set up is straight forward. Phone app can be better. I was able to connect Ecobee3 without any issues. I just found out though that Craftsman garage door opener is not supported anymore. If you have existing devices that you can connect to this or if you are constructing a new house, this is a good device to centralize control of smart devices and controllers. If you have an existing working non-smart devices and want to change to smart devices to have fun with it, I call it a hobby. The things that you will connect to the internet of things are not cheap. Light switches costs more than $30 each. I would still recommend this to a friend because it is a nice thing to have but gave it 3 stars since you cannot have fun having this device only. You will need to buy things to connect to it which can tend to be expensive. Though I know it is not this hub's fault that the cost of the devices to connect to this is expensive.

Easiest Way to Link All Smart Objects

While it's not perfect, the Smartthings hub is the easiest way to link all of the smart objects in the house. Smartthings is compatible with more protocols than any other. I am running Amazon Echo's, GE smart switches, Yale locks, Harmony remotes, and other sensors. It works with them all. The app also works rather well.

I purchased the SmartThings hub because I was increasing the number of Smart Devices in my home. My goal was to drive integration of my Smart Devices into one mobile app instead of having 6 different apps. I was surprised to learn that my Nest Thermostat does not natively integrate into SmartThings. After some research, I found I could integrate the Nest Thermostat into SmartThings, but I would need to get a developer account on three different systems (Nest, Samsung and Github), import code through Github, and then copy/paste some API keys. While I was able to find some good instructions on how to do this, I was quite frustrated in the experience especially when I realized that I was working within one Samsung Developer proxy server and pointing my devices to the wrong one. Some integrations were easy, like my Smart Lock over Z-Wave and my cameras were natively supported. I didn't like how SmartThings created another profile on my cameras. But I hit another snag when it came to setting up my MyQ garage door opener. Again, I had to use third-party code and I found out that the MyQ system restricts some access so SmartThings cannot tell the status of the garage door (open or close), but can only send open/close commands. Unless I want to spend more money on a third party tilt sensor. In the end, I got my smart devices to integrate, and it is nice to be able to control main functions via 1 mobile app instead of multiple different apps. But I have not been able to get rid of the other apps. In the world of Smart Thermostats, I consider Nest to be pretty mainstream. I find it frustrating that SmartThings does not offer native integration for Nest and I would not recommend the work-around for someone who is not very tech-savvy. The SmartThings Hub is probably fine if you're looking to integrate compatible switches or bulbs and integration of IFTTT sequences, but the key is definitely to do your research and make sure your devices are natively compatible.

The setup was simple. Very quickly connected to my home wifi and then to all of the different devices that we use. This includes Wemo receptacles, Leviton dimmer switches, Ecobee thermostat with sensors, Sony XBR TV, and Alexa. Setup a few IFTTT routines and they are perfect! Amazing what this does for the price!

This is my first smart hub but I love it. It's very easy to use and works like a champ. It updates itself and notifys you when updates are ready. Makes your smart home very simple to run by using just the one app and Alexa will search the Samsung app to controll all of it's devices. A must own for a smart home.

This hub is about the only one out there that is compatible with everything. It does have lots of bugs however such as zwave devices dropping out and applets not always working. Webcore and externa services such as IFTTT solves the later and I hope they solve the zwave issues in the future. When it works it works great!
