I've said this before, and I WILL say it many more times AGAIN(!) ... SanDisk "flash" memory devices ARE the BEST FLASH MEMORY DEVICES YOU CAN BUY! I purchased this particular SanDisk - Ultra 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive to be loaded up with MP4 music video and concert files (and some 4K, UHD "demo" clips) so I could plug them "directly" into a brand new Sony XBR-49X700D - Smart - 4K Ultra HD TV. ... Loading 115 GB (about 2,620 individual files more or less) of video clips took about 25 minutes, thanks to a "quad-core" computer AND USB 3.0 high speed transfer standards. So far, the loaded drive has been inserted into the TV for about 50 days, and has performed perfectly, considering it's nearly always "on"; because the TV keeps this flash drive in a "stand-by" state even when the TV is turned off (BUT still connected to the internet ... think about it for a couple of minutes). This flash drive does run "hot" nearly all of the time, but NOT hot enough to be worrying about "meltdown". I've had some of my SanDisk USB 2.0 flash drives for more than a dozen years now, without one single failure yet. I've had most of my SanDisk High-Capacity USB 3.0 flash drives for 2 to 3 years now, again, without a single failure yet. ... I fully expect this new SanDisk - Ultra 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive to last as long as the Sony TV it's connected to. ---> The TV it replaced was a 17-plus year old Sony WEGA TV that was still working just fine when it was "retired". Thanks Again to SanDisk AND Best Buy for GREAT, Reliable, Compact Data Storage Devices at Incredibly LOW Prices!!!

Since I began with PCs back in 1985, as the manager of the first Help Desk for End Users at Citibank's headquarters, in NYC, I have been almost religious about doing backups. We taught our End Users to do backups, and gave them a simple DOS Command File so they could back their important documents up to a 3.5 inch 'floppy disk.' Over the years I have personally used attached Tape Drives, with ever increasing capacities, until final the Cloud became a reliable method for the destination of backups. Except that I am paranoid about backing up to the Cloud, or any off-site location not under my immediate control. I have Thumb/Flash/Jump drives ranging from a 256 MB unit Microsoft gave me as a premium, all the way to this new 128GB capacity drive. I also have about three of each, 32 GB and 64GB, along with some 16GB thrown in for good measure. With the smaller drives, I would back up specific types of files: pictures, documents, spreadsheets, etc. With this monster, I can also back up every file created on my PC, and reserve the 64GB drives for an OS backup, with a 16GB drive used as an OS Recovery Disk. This drive is amazing. Considering my first HD was 10MB and I was amazed at that much space, now my HD is 1TB, with these little gizmos at 128GB. This is a reliable, stable, and easy-to-use part of my protection for my data, and all necessary data on the network. And still there is room for more. Don't get caught without any backup at all, and don't rely on your internal HD. If the drive dies, you're going to need to replace all that work for yourself and others. Unka Heshie

    Another Great Sandisk USB Drive

It has an awesome transfer rate! I have never had a problem with any Sandisk USB drive, and this one is no different except, it will not work with PS4 Pro, which is why I bought it. I wanted a faster alternative to the older Sandisk 2.0 drive I had, as it took some time to transfer a 1 hour video file from the PS4 Pro. I thought PS4 Pro supported USB 3.0, and perhaps it does, just not with this drive. Also, a tip if you are looking to transfer larger files to the drive, format the drive to exFAT by right clicking the drive in "This PC" for Windows PC users, and select format. Again, I am not sure why this drive will not work with PS4 Pro, but I got it for $24.99 on sale, so I am not too disappointed. I actually put this drive to work as a booster to my PC, such as what a SSD is often used for. Again, go to "This PC", right click on the drive, select properties, then ReadyBoost, and dedicate the drive to ReadyBoost. My PC is new, and fast on start up, but I believe this is making it a bit faster. Since I can't use it for the reason I bought it, this is a much cheaper alternative to an SSD, which I had considered buying, since my PC did not come with an SSD.

    Misleading Specs...

I bought this flash drive for its capacity and USB 3.0 which is supposed to give you a faster transfer rate. The problem is that the flash drive is rated at 100MB/Sec but only with read speed. Realistically, the read speed is more like 60-80MB/sec. But the write speed on this flash drive is a paltry 20MB/sec in real use. Copying 128GB of files to the drive took almost an hour. I could not figure this out until I went to the Sandisk site and saw that it does not specify write speed, just stating that the write speed, stating "Up to 100MB/s read speed; write speed lower and varies by capacity." After reading the specs on some other flash drives, write speed specs really vary on flash drives, going from 15MB/sec to 120MB/sec. The good thing about this flash drive is it is capless, the drive connector slides into the housing.

Since I just received this flash drive in the mail and have yet given it a thorough 'test drive', this is a conditional review and will be modified from this high ranking if I encounter any problems with this device. Most if not all of my flash drives have been SanDisk® and all have been great, without problems, thus my reasoning for providing this early review. It is great to see the cost of these devices drop in price yet improve on features. I purchased this SanDisk Ultra 128GB 3.0 USB flash drive from one of Best Buy's one day promotional deals and used a $15 coupon I had earned via points with my membership. With free shipping for this one device, I got this for less than $28!! That is awesome. I love having flash drives on hand for myself and kids to use. Through the years I have several 8 or 16GB flash drives I "loan out" to my kids to use for school work and not worry too much if I don't see them again. Having a collection of 64 GB or larger flash drives is very valuable to have in case of emergency or some urgent project to share or an urgent backup needed. I now have a new threshold or goal to purchase future flash drives - $30 or less for a 128 GB 3.0 usb SanDisk® Ultra...or better!

BestBuy graciously refunded my money after 2 1/2 months--noting others had experienced the same issue with this 128GB Sandisk flash drive. I purchased it to backup an apparently failing drive. While less than 1/2 full, it write protected itself and not even Geek Squad could format it to remove my private data; nor was it certain that I had backed up the backup. Thus, BB took a total loss to keep me happy. I will need the drive to restore my data once I purchase a replacement drive or possibly a replacement laptop. While some one-star reviews reported the same problem, the Sandisk reputation and hundreds of five-star and four-star reviews on BB and other sites swayed me. In addition, the reviews for nearly every USB Flash Drive drive include some horror stories. Alas, I have joined the minority in this, my first ever one-star review. DJ

This is a good storage device. I bought it for work purposes, storing documents and such for teleworking out of the office. Unfortunately about a week after I bought it, my employer has a new policy of no longer allowing detachable storage device to be connected to work computer due to fear of malware etc. Everything work-related has moved to the cloud and accessible via cloud. We are no longer allowed to use usb storage device now at work. So I have no further use for this, I wish I could return it for a lightning-to-usbC device because then I could at least transfer data back and forth between my cellphone and Ipad, but unfortunately I have removed and toss the package it came with. :-( Bestbuy, if you're reading this please consider an exchange request.

I bought usb 3.0 because it is supposed to be quite a bit faster than 2.0. guess that does not apply to sandisk. very disappointed in this drive. bought 2 of them and they do not write any faster than the 2.0 does. in fact, one of them was even slower than my 2.0 drives. and, yes, i had them in a usb 3.0 connector on my computer. I kept trying to write files to one of them and then tried the other. files would not write any faster than 15 - 18 mbs. very disappointing. last time I ever buy sandisk. these drives suck. for the list price you would think they would be better, guess that is why they were on sale for so cheap because that's what they are, cheap.

I find I use thumb drives more and more. I picked this one because it had very high capacity. I do a lot of photo work. I also go away for the winter and like to take my work with me. Using this drive is much easier than burning a bunch of disks. When done, I can erase it and load it up again with new work. I especially like it because it's retractable. I don't like the ones that have a separate cover piece for the drive as I am always losing it. The 128 GB is great for loading tons of photos that I can work on while away and then bring back the finished work and re-load it onto my main computer. I recently wanted a high quality video that a friend had done for me at a recent birthday gathering. It was too big to e-mail so I simply sent her this thumb drive, she loaded the video onto it and mailed it back to me. Very easy solution for both of us! It carries a huge amount of files and takes up no space when I'm traveling. I would highly recommend it!

A tech person at my job recommended SanDisk to me and I've been using them for several years. When I was building a computer for a friend, I read that there have been problems with a certain brand of flash drive (won't mention brand) not working well when used for booting a computer (in order to install the OS). SanDisk was mentioned as one brand that doesn't have problems. I was happy to read that since the only brand of flash drives I have is Sandisk. I have never lost any data stored on one of these. I have, however, lost data on other brands. The only problem I've ever had with these flash drives is that, in the older models (black w/white thumb slide), when inserting them into the usb port, sometimes the connector would slide back into the casing. I don't have that problem with the newer ones (black with red slide).

I bought the Sandisk - Ultra 128gb Usb 3.0 Flash Drive because of the brand and the specific 128GB capacity along with the USB3 transfer speed. The price, on sale at the time, made it the obvious choice for my limited needs. I just use it for a fast secure transportable backup for all my office computer files. I bought it just before a coast to coast trip so I could travel light, not even taking an ultrabook. That way I was able to work from my flash drive on whatever computer I had access to either in a California office or at my son's home, without wifi/cloud reliability or security being an issue. The drive is compact, has a loop for a chain or key ring, and benefits from a quick and easy slide action. Some may not like the lack of a protective cap of some kind, but for my use it isn't a problem and the fast, one handed slide action access makes it worth having..

As a retired - more than 35 years - Systems Engineer, I long ago learned the value of multiple backups of a computer system. Having used all the previous methods, I now rely on a couple methods of backup. I have an online automated backup, a local backup run by Windows 10 Pro, and my own fail-safe using high-capacity Flash/Thumb drives. This 128GB drive is used to hold documents and photos, while a separate one holds system rebuild information and can be used to boot from, to rebuild my system back to the latest state before failing. I have others - a 256GB flash drive - which holds the entire contents of my system, without the space-stealing photos and videos. A good Flash drive is a priceless tool for protecting your system.

I work with large video and photoshop files for my work and this is extremely FAST, reliable, and light. It's fairly large capacity for a USB stick so it's highly useful for those larger files that take forever to transfer. No need to carry a brick of a hard drive, extra cable, etc - put this in your pocket or use the very handy hole for your key so you don't lose it or forget it. Great feature: it slides in and out, protecting the most sensitive portion of a USB stick - the connector. Add with the DEEP current discount, it's a steal. Highly recommended for video editors or visual artists or any other power user that need to quickly move files in an organized manner between computers and or collaborators quickly, without waiting for internet transfer sites to upload then re-download.

128GB is a luxurious amount of space for a thumb drive (I paid $10 for my first thumb drive with a whopping 16MB capacity, enough to carry a whole stack of floppies, attached to my keychain, if you can imagine that feeling). The form factor is small for this sort of slider and construction, while very light plastic, seems as if it will hold up to long term, if gentle, use. Performance seems good. On a system with only USB 2.0 ports, it seems to perform at about double the rate of my other thumb drives for large transfers, or about a third of the speeds I've seen transferring from an internal SSD to an external spinning disk 3.5" drive attached by eSATA. I'm guessing performance only goes up across an actual USB 3.0 bus. Typical, solid SanDisk hardware.

What is there to say about a USB flash drive? It works as advertised. I can store stuff on it (a lot of stuff) and none of my stuff has disappeared. However, there is a design flaw, that I just don't understand. I use a laptop with a docking station. I use both laptop USB ports for other things, so I use this USB drive in the docking station. There are six USB ports on my docking station, but this USB drive is too wide to use next to another port that is in use. This means that I have to use the end port and leave one port empty or put it in a middle port and keep one on each side empty. I don't understand why they would have made this with such a huge design flaw. Maybe that is why they were on sale for such a low price. I would recommend this item but only with the caveat that you cannot use it next to another USB port.

I own this pen drive( SDCZ48-128G-A46) over a month, and have had no problems loading and reloading or with transferring files back to my computer. it's nice having a large capacity portable thumb drive. And works as advertised read speed (70~80MB/S on USB 3.0) . However, due to write speeds- a little slow (21~25MB/s on USB 3.0), and very slow on USB2.0 (7~11MB/s) I'd recommend for the people who are looking to essentially back-up their documents and transfer back to their computers at higher speed Read/write should look for San Disk Extreme Pro 128GB ( read speeds of up to 260 MB/s and write speeds of up to 240 MB/s )

First Flash Drive Burned Out on Me

First I must say that I'm a long-time SanDisk user, from flash drives to memory cards, and I think they make the best products. That being said, I was really dismayed when the first flash drive I bought quit working on me almost immediately after I loaded it with my life's files! It's a good thing I had a backup on another computer (something I recommend). I went back to the store and they took care of me by offering me a replacement. The replacement flash drive works like a charm with no problems. The flash drive came with a security program called Encryptstick. I recommend purchasing the upgraded version for about $12 because it allows you to make backup files of your flash drive right onto your home computer. It also lets you add stronger encryption to your files.

Just got it, took some time to figure out the SecureAccess feature. I just want to back up my files from my hard drive, so the password and encryption seems overkill. Also, the drag/drop or copy/paste to transfer files seems a bit cumbersome. I just want a backup to keep in my firesafe in case I lose my photos, etc that are on my hard drive. Just hoping this will last better than the MyPassport portable storage I tried in the past that quit working. I have a second SanDisk Ultra flashdrive that i'll try skipping their software and simply do a Windows 10 backup to the flash drive. File transfer was slower than expected/hoped but I wasn't concerned about speed, just space and that it is long lasting. Pick the storage size you need, the rest only time will tell...

SO far it is holding up to my storage demands. It is much like any other USB Flash Drives. I chose this one due to the large storage space it provides me. I bought this one as a light weight storage drive for easy downloading of my travel videos and pictures. The sheer size is great as a replacement to my external HDD. I found over the years, externals HDDs I bought did not travel well and somehow got corrupted during heavy use. We'll see how long this last and maybe write another review as time goes on. As of right now, I would recommend to a friend with the caveat this is an initial product review and not a final.
